Unpopular Fanfic opinions

I saw a post about this weeks ago and I wanted to get around to it but never had time til now. xD

Keep in mind, this is just an opinion, nothing more.

Prepare for some rants. Because some of these are just rants

1. Not all wolfaus are the same, nor are they always aboaus

As a wolfau writer myself with almost like 30 stories into a series mainly based on my interpertation of a wolfau, people automatically assume that it's your typical wolfau, or it's an aboau. Believe it or not, there is a small difference between the two aus, and everyone interperets both aus differently. I don't get many comments about it, but for those who have read most of it or have been subbed to some of my stories in that series can tell that I try to put a line between myself and your typical wolfau writer.

Not to say that being your typical wolfau writer is bad, same with being an aboau writer, I'm just trying to make my own niche in an overly covered concept in fanfiction history. Nothing more

I feel like this also covers the ever elusive genre of shapeshifteraus. Hm

2. Romance isn't always a main subject in every fanfic out there

I feel like this is a big one that's almost never talked about. Not every single fanfic in the world needs to have romance in it. Hell, some of my favorite fanfics don't even involve romance of any kind. Funnily enough, I got a comment once about whether a fanfic of mine has any romance in it, when it really doesn't. I wasn't rude to the commenter, I just explained that it didn't have romance in it because it's not the main subject of the story.

I get it, it's a fanfic. Surely there's romance somewhere in it right? No, not every single one you read involves romance of any kind.

3. The above statement also goes for in fanfictions

Need I say more? xD.

No, but seriously. doesn't need to be in every single story. [at least, I feel like the more popular fanfics always involve somewhere]

For me, I have a website that explicitly states not to write any ual content of any kind on the website [it's become an archive for my stories, and where my WIP are] so I don't ever bother with writing .

Besides, 's too overrated now a days. Damn some people are thirsty af when it comes to their otps

4. Odd ships need to become more popular

Before you're like "oh, but isn't that just a crack ship?"

No, it's not. Odd ships are basically mashing two groups together and somehow making it work with pairing one character to another. It's never really talked about because it's a niche in the fanfic world, but I do it, mainly to introduce fandoms of one group to another group. It works, I guess.

I mean come on, if idols are friends in real life, why not ship them together hm?

5. Large s don't always mean ia

I feel like I'm going to get hate on this one? I can see the comments now xD

I've done odd pairings with pretty significant s between the characters before and believe me, I always state that if there is one, nothing will happen between the characters. Read my above statement on and you get the picture.

Now, I get it. s are a thing, and if they are underage it shouldn't happen in the first place.

For some of my characters, they bonded due to something that happened in their past [like Kisu of 24k and Jisung of Stray Kids]. Or they met under normal circumstances and bonded that way [sort of like Kihyun of Monsta X and Jisung of TRCNG]. Just to name a few. Whenever that sort of thing comes into play, I just make sure to keep things as civil as possible and state that both characters in the stories are fine with the circumstances. [sometimes it can't be helped, other times they bonded due to a mutual understanding between the characters]

For Kihyun and Jisung [of TRCNG], Kihyun wasn't aging since he was a werewolf and Jisung was still human at the time they met so they came to the mutual decision to wait until Jisung was older.

For Kisu and Jisung [of Stray Kids], Jisung was originally Cory's wolf [it's complicated to explain unless you go read the stories they're featured in] which would mean that Kisu was originally Cory's mate but due to circumstances Jisung ended up being Kisu's mate because of some weird glitch in the matrix. They remained friends though, but due to circumstances, some might think they are together even though they technically are not.

This doesn't mean that I condone ia, but people need to realize that s don't always mean ia.

Yeah, I'm going to get hate for this one. Woops.

Anyway, that's my unpopular fanfic opinions! Keep in mind that it's just an opinion. No hate please

Honestly, for your last point, I 100% agree, large s doesn't always mean ia. If they're of consenting age, it's technically not. However, it doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with large s. The thing is, as people get older, a larger doesn't matter as much.
I think the problem with the example you gave, with Kisu and Jisung -- I don't know your story, I'm just addressing the age they are and if they were actually to be in a relationship now -- is that one is 29 and one 19. That's a 10 year . If they were 45 and 35, that's totally fine, I don't see a problem with that at all. They're consenting adults, who know what they're doing with there lives. The problem here, is that one person is 19. They've barely entered adulthood, they're just figuring out where they belong in the world, and to be in a relationship with someone who is almost 30... well there is something a little problematic in that. They're 2 people in completely different stages of their lives, one person is just getting into college, the other has likely had a job for almost 5 years. There's a problem in the power dynamic between these two people, is all that i'm saying. I always believe that limit should be half your age +7. That gap gets bigger as you get older, and its a by no means perfect system, but honestly to have a 19 yr old with a 29 yer old... it's not ia, but there is something predatory about it. As someone who is the same age as Jisung, it would definitely make me uncomfortable seeing my friend with a 30 year old. It's important to ask yourself, what exactly does a 30 yr old want with a 19 yr old, someone who likely doesn't have that much in common (even with what you said about bonding over something in their past)?

I see where you’re coming from ^_^ I agree on the “not all stories need romance” and “not all stories need ” as those are my opinions as well (and I also write stories without romance and certainly also without lmao).

Your point about odd ships is well ... it’s gonna be hard but I also get it as a rare shipper lol. It’d be great if people paid more attention but alas, we’ll have our niches and nothing wrong with that ^_^
