Story help??

I don't get computer language so ...

If I go on a public computer, does that create a new IP address? How about if I just log onto a public wifi?

Do I actively have to change my IP address if I change computers and wifi?

What if I'm in a library, using different computers but all hooked up to the same wifi?

Help me? Please?

Also, if you would like to betaread for me, please send me a comment here or DM me. The story is slightly long (19k as of rn) but I really really really need someone to look it over ; _ ;

(Also, it's EXO, it's gay and a combination of angst and medical and ridiculous)

As far as I know, you don't "create" an IP address. When your laptop/phone connects to a network, the device requests for an IP address and the router or ISP assigns an available IP address for your laptop/phone/computer. You don't really have to configure this or do it yourself. The device and the router does it for you.

You don't have to manually change your IP address if you change computers and WiFi either. Again, your devices do that for you. You don't really get a permanent IP address (unless you manually make a static IP address, but this would make your network run poorly and probably wouldnt fly with ISP unless you're a business) because the IP address is assigned to the device for a certain amount of time. Your device will request for a new one once the "lease" for it is up.

Edit: oh! And if you're on different computers connected to the same public WiFi, each computer gets assigned their own IP address.

If you use your laptop with your WiFi at home then at a coffee shop, you IP address at home is different than your IP address at the shop.

Hope this helps?
