Kpop opinions (music)

About the musics, about groups and not necessarily unpopular. Mostly about the actual music, tho.

1. I'm sad Dreamcatcher's new song has the chorus it does. I absolutely positively love Dreamcatcher's image and their concepts. They're dark in a funky way and it truly speaks to me. But when I listen to their songs I am beginning to find them a bit repetitive. The chorus drop is annoying me, to be honest. Deja Vu sounds like every other Dreamcatcher title track, it's like they're all built up the same way with a melody that drops in the chorus. You can honestly predict it by now. I know they strive more towards a jpop sound and it's fine. I don't know, it just disappointed me the way the beat dropped in Deja Vu. It felt wrong. I was expecting a change-up in the melody but not the ... no. I don't know, I think I would have liked Deja Vu better as a full ballad or perhaps just without the repetition of the title in the chorus...

2. I would love Chen to do more than solo ballads.I know he's a great singer, he's honestly my favorite voice in EXO. But dear, my dearlooks like a ballad album as well and I long for something more. I know his voice is more versatile than that. Maybe he's more comfortable singing ballads alone, I don't know about that and I'm not trying to force him to do something he's uncomfortable with. But I long for something more powerful. Something fun. Rock, pop-rock - I don't know. Something where I can turn the volume up and just GO. Like his Up Rising solo in their concert. Or the collab with Alesso Years. Or his Watch Out in CBX's Japanese album. He doesn't have to stick with ballads and I hope one day we get something more fun... (Or well, I can hope Dear, my Dear surprises but ...)

3. I find BlackPink a little repetitive.I love me some good girl crush but when I listen to BlackPink's music I find I'm stuck in the same feeling. Their music doesn't move me in different directions. I admit that I haven't listened to their b-sides all that much so this is only title tracks, but at the same time it just feels like we're going for the same kind of girl crush all the time. The music is good, but I, for one, would love a more subtle girl crush song from them sooner rather than later.

4. Tempo is a weird song.I remember buying the albums when I was Korea, I was in line waiting to purchase my EXO albums and feeling like a giddy idiot, but when I actually heard Tempo for the first time I was definitely .. disappointed. I do think that was my first reaction. The more I listened, the more I got all the small details and I got used to the song, but it's still one of the EXO songs I would rather skip than listen to. It's just such an odd song and the production of it was just .. I don't know, I still don't think it's a good song and sure, I can and will sing along but I will also skip it - more often than other EXO songs.

5. I also didn't really like the song Blue, Onew's solo debut. Not the album Voice, mind you, just the song. The MV was beautiful and it really gave me a lot of feelings, but thinking only of the song, there is something eerie about Blue. I prefer other songs on his album. And if we just keep with the SHINee members and their solo's. Key's Forever Yours was definitely also not my style. There are some stylistic choices in that song that has me skipping immediately. But I do love other of his solo songs.

6. Taeyeon is a super versatile soloist. There is something about her solo music that just speaks to me. You can find almost everything within her repetoire. I is an amazing song, it feels very light. I Got Love feels so rough in a strange way. Her ballads such as Blue and 11:11 are so emotional. I don't know exactly what it is, but her voice is such a story in itself when she sings.

7. Baekhyun should "rap" more. I don't know much about rap, okay? Like it is seriously not a music style I listened to a lot when I was younger and to be fair, I only mostly listen to LE and Giant Pink's rap these days, so - I really don't have a lot of education on this. But still, when I listening to Baekhyun's solo album, I don't know, I actually wish I could hear him "rap" more. I don't know if it's actual rap, but either way. The fast-paced, more rough song. His voice sounds good when he does that. (I also know it's a joke in the fandom, the whole rap he did for fun during their variety show (I'm the worst EXO-L ever, I can't remember which show lmao) but to be honest, I really like his voice in a fast-paced, more rough song. Baekhyun doing ballads - well, I guess that's not my thing either).

8. On the contrary to above point, Chanyeol should be singing a hell of a lot more. When that man sings, my heart goes a little crazy. His voice is like heaven. Sing Chanyeol, sing your heart out.

9. Someone should bring ToHeart back. That's it, that's my opinion. It's a shame it was only a one-time wonder because it was fun and the music was actually super nice. So - please bring back ToHeart?

10. Close your lips, shut your tongue is still the weirdest English sentence in a song. Granted, Mamacita is a ing odd song, but that sentence. Yes, I have seen and heard all those odd English phrases, but I just cannot with 'shut your tongue'. It's so weird.

I feel like I'm starting to be a little repetitive. I know most of these opinions are EXO related, but to be honest, it all stemmed from watching the MV for Dreamcatcher's Deja Vu and being a little disappointed in the song.

My favorite comeback/song for 2019 so far is CLC's No, followed closely by Twice's Fancy and Sunmi's Lalalay.

Tell me your music-related opinions when it comes to kpop! Who are original and who is a little repetitive?

Just talk with me, she begs.

Close your lips, shut your tongue makes me... I don't know what it makes me, but it certainly does SOMETHING, and I'm not sure it's good. You'd think that with the increasing interest from western countries, songwriters would put a liiiittle more effort into... Making sense. ://

Sometimes I skip those few seconds where "close your lips, shut your tongue" is said or skip Mamacita altogether :") r

Also, I COMPLETELY ING AGREE with what you said about rap!byun :"D I'm generally not a fan of ballads, so I really like it when he sings in a "rougher," faster song. Like in "Betcha," he delivers a lot of the song in a such in a quick (well "quick" relative to something like a ballad) pace, and it's just ??? really nice to hear? Songs that have this rapper-esque line delivery are just really nice to hear imo haha.

I have never shut up when it comes to Chanyeol singing more. He's supposed to be a rapper, but I think he's better at singing and also more comfortable with it. And this is random, but I still want a Chansoo sub-unit soooo bad :")

My favorite songs so far in 2019 are Sunmi's Lalalay, Saay's ZGZG, Baekhyun's Diamond and Betcha, EXOSC's Roller Coaster and Closer to you, ITZY's Icy, and Gi-dle's Uh-oh.

I don't really have much "opinion" on k-pop right now, but uh, all I can say is that I want more Hwasa content :-D
