personality — Cheerful : Erika is someone who seemingly does not let anything get her down and is always laughing and smiling. When interacting with others, she'll try her best to remain enthusiastic.
Loyal : Erika does not drop her loved ones just because someone else can give her something better or what she wants. She knows who are the ones who were there with her and stands by them, protecting them with her life.
Creative : Erika can seemingly come up with any ideas or lyrics on the spot, and she loves making up lyrics and ideas. She loves thinking of imaginary worlds and "what if this happened" situations which spur her to create things.

background — Erika was born to a pair of Japanese parents who migrated to Singapore in the early 1990's. Her mother was a home-based piano teacher, and her father liked writing poetry in his free time. As a child, Erika quickly fell in love with how words could come together to create beautiful poems, and the beautiful piano melodies her mother would play. Erika had begged her mother to teach her how to play the piano many times as a child, and eventually got her wish when she was seven years old. After that, she started to like writing poems and coming up with piano melodies to accompany them, turning them into songs. She hoped that someday, she could perform the songs she wrote.

At the age of 10, Erika watched the Barbie nutcracker movie on TV when it was airing as a Christmas special, and decided that she wanted to learn ballet, and her parents started sending her for ballet classes. Erika fell in love with ballet and ended up learning it as an extracurricular activity until the age of 16. In 2009, the H1N1 crisis struck, and Erika found a parody of Wonder Girls' Nobody with lyrics relevant to the crisis by a Youtuber. Out of curiousity, she went to listen to the original song, and liked it. Erika later discovered other K-pop groups and started following them, later even learning the choreography for songs she liked, and creating a Youtube channel to post her covers. Erika continued her studies as per normal while dancing and composing songs as a hobby until her early 20s.

After graduating from university in 2016, Erika decided to take a gap year and did freelance piano coaching for a living as well as take some time to travel, to which one of her destinations was South Korea. While she was out shopping, Erika was approached by a scouter from Starship Entertainment who passed her his name card and invited her to audition. After the audition, Erika was accepted as a Starship trainee, and in 2019 she was chosen to participate on StarX.

trainee background — Training was pretty normal for Erika. She wasn't able to get used to the schedules, diets and speaking Korean at first, but she overcame it, and she picked up what she needed to know quickly enough. She enjoyed training despite the difficult times, especially when the other trainees were there for her. In 2019, Erika was chosen to participate in StarX to see if she would get to debut.
