vice president chu ↬ a nickname used more commonly than her name amongst her classmates of 12-1, it's come into usage ever since saebyuk was voted into the position. it's normal to hear her class yell out this nickname in the hallway whenever they're trying to get her attention to either hand her their homework or when they need something delegated out and this nickname even bleeds out of school when they all decide to hang out or study with one another. as vice presidents are usually stereotyped to be the backbone of the president, this nickname is especially used as a jest to poke fun at their president while praising saebyuk and both play into the class' joke willingly.

APPEARANCE[x x] era ↬ she's a small, petite little thing — standing at 156cms and weighing roughly around 49kg — and while she's not a standard beauty, there's something almost ethereal about saebyuk that calls attention towards her, regardless of what she's doing. with flawless, pale skin that contrasts greatly from her dark circles peeking through her concealer and pink lips that are usually flashing a set of pearly whites, there's a stark comparison between her tired eyes and youthful glow but if anybody can work it, it's saebyuk. originally, saebyuk had long, light brown hair but cut it into a shoulder-length bob in the beginning of her senior year, dying it back to a chocolate brown.
FASHIONsaebyuk, by default, stays with the trends. not involved in fashion but with a natural eye for color schemes and sillhouettes, she tends to put together outfits that are passable for everyday wear; however, it isn't surprising to see multiples of her outfit littering the streets of hongdae because what's a trend to her is a trend to others. the one thing that sets her apart from the rest it that saebyuk is bright. sure, she has her fair share of monochrome colors — navy looks good on her and tan makes her look cozy — but she likes color in her wardrobe and it's always the focal point of her attire. she'll, occasionally, wear black but it's never her go-to color nor is it a color she centers her outfit around. she's a believer in linen and other light fabrics that are easily layered and her closet consists of thin tops that she can wear under a gingham dress or tuck into her jeans. she's not one for lace and frilly fabrics yet has a dress or two that has exactly that for purposes unbeknowest to her. "i knew saebyuk from her first year and all i have to say is that while her and i aren't best friends anymore purely due to outgrown friendships and not because we had a fight, but we are still friends! but anyways, there were good and bad memories. that being said, saebyuk tends to be a bit selfish and she knows this herself so while that shows an ability to take a step back and realize her faults, it still peeks through her actions. she's a bit of a baby herself, and i mean that in the nicest way possible, so i don't think she would be able to handle a kid. like? she's a baby... how can she take care of baby? anyways, i do know that saebyuk tends to showcase herself in a way that,, well. how do i say this. people expect saebyuk to be put together so she acts as if she is.

TLDR, depending on who gets asked, chu saebyuk is either a reliable figure or an annoying pest. with a personality that's hard to digest and a seemingly indifferent look smeared across her face, saebyuk's first impressions usually aren't the greatest. she's a bit selfish, a bit overwhelming and a bit bossy to those that aren't used to her stubborn temperament and saebyuk's seeming disregard for others are amplified through her actions. they think saebyuk is scripted and to a certain degree, they're right. she acts in a way that's familiar to everybody — which usually consists of shouldering a majority of the burden herself while portraying an air of insouciance — and many find that juxtaposition unsightly. however, saebyuk's friends proclaim that her reputation fueled by negative rumors are unfounded. with an aptitude for making friends when given the chance and an unwavering loyalty, saebyuk is perceptive as she is generous, intelligent as she is vibrant. majority comment on the dichotomy that saebyuk has, her nonchalant expression contrasting greatly with the playful words that spew out of , and while her apathetic gestures can rub some people the wrong way, saebyuk is someone that's confident in herself and knows who she is as a person. as someone who wants the best for herself and others, she may come off as strong but saebyuk truly is a good person, despite all her apparent flaws.

bubble tea maker ↬ saebyuk currently works a part time job at a gongcha located right by the school. she usually works after school ends on mondays, wednesdays and thursdays for just some part time money, since she doesn't like asking her parents for some. her go-to drink was a milk foam oolong tea, 50% sweetened with aloe jelly but after the new 2019 drink releases, she's currently been drinking the green grape green tea ade, 50% sweetened with white pearls.
i object, sir! ↬ born to a set of lawyers, her parents would have preferred their only daughter to carry out the legacy of their firm but they trust her enough to make her own decisions. when she stated that she wanted to go into data security, her parents worry (just a teeny bit) but accept it without too big of a fuss. whether it's because they're always busy or if it's because saebyuk has never given them a reason to question her, saebyuk's number one priority is to make her parents proud and give them a good retirement.
dream school, dream team ↬ as the type to have her life planned out thoroughly, saebyuk already knows she wants to get into ewha university with a degree in cyber security. to be quite honest, she's not passionate about her major but saebyuk has the brains to get her through the rigorous education given to ewha and land herself in a big company so this is the route she's going. her parents would prefer her going into law like they are but saebyuk believes the lengthy time that it takes to pass the bar just isn't worth it when she can already be making money out of college.
tequila shots, no thank you ↬ she doesn't like the taste of alcohol and rarely goes out of her way to drink some but her classmates like to throw house parties when tests are over and what better way to relieve stress than to pound a few shots? thankfully, her tolerance is pretty okay enough that she doesn't get drunk but she better be watched when she does because saebyuk is a runner. she likes to explore and it gives sian a heart attack whenever saebyuk takes off, arms spread towards the sky as she gleefully cheers, ignoring sian's panicked, "ya, saebyuk! stop!"
brownies galore ↬ unfortunately, saebyuk is horrible at cooking. it's not for lack of trying but she just somehow, always, messes up. that being said, through the many hours in her kitchen, saebyuk realized that her skill lies in baking rather than cooking. it not being able to cook decent ramen but she makes it up with bomb cookies or bakery-worthy cupcakes.
study music only ↬ good friends with the lofi side of youtube, saebyuk tends to only listen to songs that she can focus with. bubblegum kpop and rap music is something she'd like to enjoy but as someone who only listens to music when she's studying or walking home, saebyuk finds it a bit too much for her.
goyangi ↬ as someone trying to appear well-rounded as possible, saebyuk also volunteers every sunday morning (7:30am to 12:30pm) at the local vet. she doesn't handle any animals and only stays at the front desk to handle all the computer work but she gets a good 5 hours every week for volunteering and gets to play with cute pets as they're waiting for their owners to pick them up so she considers it a win in her book.
top 1% ↬ while she doesn't care about being number one in the school, grades do matter to saebyuk so it's not surprising to anybody that she's part of the top 1% of the school. she absorbs information easily but has to put in a lot of effort to retain the information which is why she's constantly going over notes or studying during her spare time.
americano, jowa, jowa, jowa. ↬ if saebyuk had her way, she'd be downing a good 3 cups of iced coffee even before first period starts. her schedule is packed and her eyebags peek through her concealer and it's up to sian and jueun to make sure saebyuk doesn't overdose on caffeine. that being said, saebyuk doesn't mind coffee. it's not her go-to drink but it keeps her awake and it does her job so if saebyuk needs to sneak a shot of espresso over ice to stay awake throughout the day than so be it.

when sian moved back from america years ago and was buddied up with saebyuk in the beginning week of 6th grade, neither realized that this was a start of a long lasting friendship. from middle school to high school, they've become best friends over a series of (very) boring events and it's hard to find one of them without the other.
having been in the same set of classes until now, everybody at their school knows of the two and their steadfast loyalty towards one another. sian and saebyuk are two peas in a pod and while they inherently have their differences that set them apart — sian hates spicy food, saebyuk loves it; sian gets curt when he's mad and saebyuk cries; etc. — people usually note that their pretty much the male/female version of one another.
while he's a bit more vivacious and has less complaints (about things) than saebyuk, he's just as friendly and generous as she is and saebyuk can't count the amount of times where she's broken down from the stress to have sian pick her back up. they're each other's biggest supporters and while saebyuk and sian will be attending different colleges, they already know that their friendship will go beyond highschool.
he's usually the one that teaches her american slang and lingo and whether saebyuk uses it correctly or incorrectly is up to her.

if saebyuk is the stereotypical vice president that's always swamped with work, jueun is the stereotypical president who's bubbly personality is good for rallying up her class but not so much sitting down for a student council meeting.
despite being voted in by her popularity, jueun does her best to lead the class. sure, she stumbles here or there and can get lost in the moment but that's where saebyuk comes in to reel her back in.

bomyi and saebyuk are practically strangers. sure, saebyuk has heard of the other but being in different classes have left little for discussion as they pass each other in the hallway with their own respective friends.
regardless of the lack of interaction between the two before the baby project, it becomes a habit for saebyuk to give bomyi a wave whenever she storm's han's class to find said boy. because bomyi and hans are friends, saebyuk finds herself occasionally conversing with the girl when she comes to class 12-3, only to see hans busy with something.
they're not best friends but saebyuk finds bomyi endearing in the way she acts. they'll talk about the occasional cartoon — or more of bomyi expressing disbelief when saebyuk states she doesn't really watch anything — but that's usually the extent of their kakao conversations.

if one were to ask teacher sookyung if there was a student that would do good in any circumstance they're put in, sookyung will point out chu saebyuk in a sea of people with a grin on her face and a confident nod.
they're not necessarily close but saebyuk knows her fair share of teachers and sookyung ssem is one of them. they converse occasionally when student council duties arise and more-so than ever once the baby project starts — saebyuk pounds her with questions about everything — but she wishes the best for saebyuk as she does all her students.
saebyuk will admit that sookyung is one of the cooler teachers and that she wishes she could get close to her but it's not a priority nor is it necessary so until an opportunity arises, saebyuk finds herself not seeking the new teacher out.

her desk mate and hichu dealer when her sugar levels are low, meet cha hyunwoo. they're a dysfunctional set of friends, solely meeting due to their desk arrangements and even if hyunwoo is the stereotypical class clown and saebyuk is the vice president, they tend to get along.
trading her bite sized candy for notes, saebyuk knows that she doesn't really get anything out of this but he's helped her out a couple of times during her time spent at 12-1 and so while she'll glare at hyunwoo and roll her eyes at his ineffective aegyo, she'll still let him see her notes or tutor him during lunch whenever he has questions about homework.
he's a bit loud, a bit obnoxious and a bit flirtatious but it's high school and both hyunwoo and saebyuk don't take their words seriously whenever banter occurs but regardless of the insults spewed their way, their words lack bite and at the end of the day, they're just two sets of friends that are constantly messaging one another on kakao.

saebyuk constantly hounds han about geting an a+ and will try her best to achieve so but having a kid is hard and saebyuk learns that the difficult way. regardless, she tries her best to be a mother (but tends to give off more older sister vibes) and if there's anything saebyuk can proudly show off, it's the planner/scrapbook that she spents hours decorating and writing.

saebyuk's friends constantly joke about how she's probably going to be a tiger mom and micromanage her kid (and han) but that's straight up her plan until she meets the kiddo (and gets to know han) and help! she's too much of a mess to be any sort of intimidating (plus they're way too cute for her to get upset over) and it's safe to say that her and han are equally lost when it comes to how to treat a child and raise them. regardless, saebyuk tries her best but contrary to popular belief, she isn't as strict as everybody thought she'd be and is more lax. but, she does play the role of the rigorous parent when it comes to studies and teaching their kid the difference between right and wrong.
saebyuk is all about matching family outfits, whether it be a unifying color or same prints all around and it is a cute sight to see all three of them having a picnic on the hangang river.
they don't really know one another.
from different classes with different friend groups, it's not likely that they'd ever cross paths. she's seen him around, sure, and she knows of him (sian does a lot of networking and in turn, tells saebyuk about the, "rich boy in 12-3 who's pretty good looking but his hair is always blonde, so, he must use like, really good hair treatment.") but it's not enough to be on greeting terms so when the baby project rolls around and they're paired together, it's weird. two strangers with a child of their own? yikes!
but she takes it in stride and introductions are given, numbers are exchanged. she already knows she's being a bit overwhelming with her five-step plan of getting a good grade — ewha, here she comes — but she can't help it. much to saebyuk's relief, he seems to accept it without too much of a fuss and she leaves as quickly as she comes, her mind already stressing from rearranging her time schedule to adjust to a baby.
she's thankful he works with her rather than against her (maybe that's just his nature?) and they slowly overcome the first meeting jitters that come with being new friends (and parents).
sure, they don't really know one another but maybe they can get to know one another.

it's slow.
somewhere between saebyuk walking on parking ledges to match his height — and failing miserably (she'll note that she still has a couple of inches to go) — to feeding their kid onigiri (made by han because sadly, saebyuk shouldn't be allowed in the kitchen), their dynamic changes.
from merely saying greetings in the hallway to saebyuk jumping onto han's back with a cheeky grin on her face, tugging at hans' own cheeks with a coo, it's become obvious that the two have become closer than either had intended to. and that's fine. saebyuk enjoys han's company in ways that sian and her own group of friends can't replicate.
it was never meant to be more than a friendship, saebyuk notes to herself when she feels her heart stammer at han's grin, but it's hard when saebyuk can truly be herself around him without any judgement. from lighthearted topics (ranging from which candy is the best to what kind of ramen they like) to deep ones, she knows that even if she were to cry over school or the weight on her shoulders with everything going on, hans will still be there for her.
if someone were to ask saebyuk when she fell in love with han, she wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly the date that something changed.
was it when she broke down under all the stress and he picked her up, telling her it was okay? or was it after the umpteenth time of her falling asleep at the cafe he works at, only to have him pack up her stuff for her and take her home, despite being exhausted from his own schedule? how about when he hugs saebyuk and she can feel all her worries drain out of her?
they find solace in one another in ways that they couldn't in other people and while the months spent together are like clockwork, almost mundane with their repetitive schedules, time spent with one another is unique in its own and it leads to memories that saebyuk finds treasuring, regardless of it's nature.
she wouldn't be able to tell them a specific experience that led her to fall in love with the boy who's heart is made of gold but she can go on about how he's just so intrinsically caring or about how he's slowly become her rock, the person she looks for in times of darkness. she can go on about how he looks the prettiest when he smiles (and not one of those business smiles he flashes for the camera) and how she wants to be there for him in the way he is for her.
surprisingly, she lives through her romance without a plan. there aren't any boxes she needs to check through, any timeline she has to follow and saebyuk is nervous. it's new for her, the ability to be open with someone other than herself but through the last few months of highschool, to graduation, to sending him off to university abroad — she claims she'll only cry the first time she sends him off until hans is wiping her tears for the umpteenth time as she watches him board the plane to finish his senior year abroad — they grow together.
if someone were to ask saebyuk when she fell in love with han, she wouldn't be able to answer but she can tell you why and isn't that all that really matters?
