subin, despite her vivacious nature and her overflowing energy, looks weak. while her cheeks hold a majority of the weight, she's extremely thin and contrary to how much subin eats, the girl can't seem to pack on any weight. even so, the rest of her features make up for it, exuding an energy that rivals that of an excited puppy. with bright, doe eyes and pink lips perpetually curled into a big smile, subin is the definition of a baby face. it doesn't help that she puts on light makeup (usually focusing only on foundation and her eye area) with some lip tint instead of going all out. subin recently dyed her hair a light brown and consistently does her hair so that it'll fall down her shoulders in light waves.

FASHION subin is flowy sleeves and gingham dresses paired with pointed 3-inch heels. she's plaid skirts with a button up blouse, accessorized with heart drop earrings and a clutch. as feminine as they come, subin adores anything girly and her outfits usually consist of skirts and dresses and prints: gingham, floral and plaid. dressing up like a majority of site models — think cherrykoko meets stylenanda — she likes her skirts but she has an equal fondness for jeans and shorts. it's common to see subin in dress as much as it's common got see subin in jeans and subin tends to save the dresses and skirts for occasions when she's not going to work or school.

NICKNAMES

with her front two teeth slightly jutting out in a rabbit-esque fashion and her squishy cheeks, subin resembles a rabbit and it's her most common nickname amongst the cafe. it's even on her name tag (hanyeon wrote it for her, sticking a puffy bunny sticker next to it as subin pins it onto her shirt with a loud laugh) and while they might not know her name, just mention the animal and they'll definitely know who it's referencing.

super smash champ

as the current reigning champion of super smash bros, it's almost tradition that anybody that gets relatively good at the game challenges subin to a battle. her choice in champion always stays the same (samus gang or die) and it's always a best 2 out of 3 game. subin, more often than not, usually wipes the floor with the contender with an all-kill but occasionally will win with a score of 2 out of 3. the reason why a majority of the maps, champions and items are unlocked in smash, subin takes pride in being good but is currently neglecting her position due to getting hooked on a couple of new games.

this is what pretty much everybody in the store that's older than her calls subin. the younger kids just stamp on a formality at the end and it becomes another common nickname amongst the store for subin. this isn't as common but when kyumin starts picking it up and using it to call subin, everybody hops off this nickname and (instead) sends subin a wiggle of their eyebrows and a nudge whenever he does.

in every chick flick, the main character has a vibrant best friend who seems to take on way too many extracurricular activities yet still has the time to stop by a coffee store and buy an iced latte of their choice. replace extracurriculars with an internship and part time job and you get ahn subin personified but she's more than the box that most characters get confined into.

the main character of her own story yet seemingly intertwined with everybody she meets, subin is considered a friend to all. she's a vibrant girl who exudes technicolor and gives twice as much as she receives without thinking of the consequences. with an uncanny ability to befriend anybody at any given time, subin is someone who thrives in social settings. there's nothing she can't talk about and while subin likes to hear her voice quite frequently, she's equally good at being a listening ear. unfortunately, her limited life lessons prevent her from giving good advice but to make up for it, she's filled to the brim with compliments. it's easy for subin to charm someone in a couple of minutes but she's as thoughtful as she is agreeable and it's common for subin to make people feel as if they're the only important ones at the moment.

even so, despite the fact that subin is absolutely cherished by her friends, some find her naivety and ditzy nature aggravating. some claim there's almost an artifical sweetness that oozes out of subin — that nobody could still be looking at the cup half full unless you've grown up priviledged (and when they found out how she had grown up, they're quick to sneer because of course.) — and her quirkyness is dubbed as weird. it's not uncommon that some may find her playful attitude too annoying and that subin, overall, still has a highschool attitude in college. subin's upbringing bleeds through her actions and it's through her childish look on life that tends to rub people the wrong way.

subin tends to look at things black and white and takes things personally but is quick to forgive and forget. those that like her are quick to defend and those that dislike her are quick to attack but despite the extreme spectrum people tend to view subin in, she's happy with the life she's cultivated through her personality and that's all that matters to her.

if one were to ask subin about her past and childhood, they'd be quick to note that, after listening to her ramble on about her parents and busan, that subin has lived a mundane life before moving up to seoul.

born and raised in the coastal city of haeundae, ahn subin lived a relatively normal life. her parents owned a small bakery that were notably known for their korean desserts that paired well with tea (such as bukkumi, yakgwa and omija) that was opened after both graduated their respective universities. subin came earlier than expected but that didn't stop her parents from showering subin with all the love and affection they could muster and being their only child, subin was both doted on and sheltered from the outside world.

contrary to popular school dramas that depicted bullying and unsupportive parents, subin's life was probably the same as any other girl living in haeundae. going to the near by public school, subin shared a same group of friends that grow with her from elementary all the way to high school and their interests are relatively normal for girls their age.

and like other kids, subin isn't sure what she wants to pursue in the future. it's when she's in 10th grade does she attend a photography class and falls in love with design. more specifically, she falls in love with building designs. an interest becomes a passion and soon, subin is firm in what she wants to do: be an architecture.

with her college acceptance letter to seoul institute of the arts in one hand and a suitcase holding a majority of her clothes and important belongings in the other, subin leaves the comfort of haeundae and moves into seoul to attend school for four years. she actually had gotten a job at a cafe on campus but when she got her internship, schedules clashed and it was unfortunate but subin left her barista part time job after two and a half years. after a couple of months of focusing on school and her internships, subin figures that she can juggle a part time job to help her parents and have a little spending money so when she spots mp! gaming cafe hiring, subin applies. how hard could it be?

subin actually got hired as a barista and is usually stationed by the drinks section of the café but will occasionally wander over to the gaming section of mp! to facilitate, watch or learn the game that people are playing when it's slow on her side of the store.

currently attends seoul institute of the arts (majoring in architecture) so she'll more often than not come into mp! with a huge backpack filled with art supplies lugging around a drawing board with her. occasionally, she does dabble (as in take classes) for video editing to put her one step above her peers in her field.

not a really big snapchat person yet huge on instagram, subin doesn't really update her instagram (@shyubins) often but when she does, it's an aesthetic picture of either herself or the seoul cityscape. she usually uses it to like other people's pictures and keeps on account on private although jiyoon has been encouraging subin to make it public and post more pictures in order to rack up a following.

she picked up this job as a filler for days she doesn't have her internship at a local architecture firm (specializing in urban reworks of smaller, affordable housing — named OBBA, office for beyond boundaries architecture). fortunately for her, all the timing fit where she could still make money, juggle school and a social life while getting job experience on the side. unfortunately for her, this means giving up sleep.

because she often times picks everything else over sleep, subin is always drinking an iced americano with hazelnut syrup pumped into it. her coworkers suggest green tea to spice it up but subin finds that it does nothing to curb her sleepiness.

subin is the biggest advocate of having an outing with their coworkers (with minjin's card, of course.) whenever something good happens or it's someone's birthday, one can expect subin to raise up her iced drink with a cheerful, "outing? korean barbecue and drinks on minjin sajangnim?" she usually gets her way but only because subin asks for occasions worth celebrating.

she was one of the last ones to get hired in the team but because of her naturally chatty nature, subin is close to all the workers and will occasionally even come to mp! to hang out in the back eating ramen with jikyung on her off days. subin is definitely one of those workers that asked everybody for their instagram as soon as she met them.

as someone who's lived in seoul for three years for school, subin's satoori is slowly fading away; however, whenever she's exhausted or just woke up from a nap, it bleeds through just as thick as it was when she first came to seoul. everybody thinks it's adorable and subin doesn't care too much to hide the fact that she's from busan.

subin currently lives in a studio in between her school and her internship office. it's small but cozy and subin has decorated it with succulents, multiple candles on her window ledge, polaroid pictures and fairy lights. like a picture straight out of tumblr, she prefers the cozy aesthetic rather than the minimalist one. it's big enough to squeeze people in but subin is definitely not throwing any house parties soon.

if one were to look at gong jiyoon and ahn subin walking arm in arm down the streets of hongdae sharing a bag of chips between them, they'd double take at both girls. a dichotomy, jiyoon and subin are two opposite ends of a spectrum but still find it in them to be best friends since subin stepped foot into seoul.

jiyoon is just as fierce as subin is sensitive and has double the backbone for both of them. whereas subin prefers light makeup, jiyoon likes it dark. subin is someone that talks a lot and jiyoon is someone that talks little.

and it's as it always goes: when jiyoon enters their mathematics class late and slides into the seat near subin, subin is eager to give the other girl a paper and pen when asked. it's only after it happens a few more times does jiyoon finally introduce herself and after a study date, they become (surprisingly) inseparable.

jiyoon claims it's because subin is too naive but there's a certain charm to subin that can even break the snarkiest of people and no matter how much jiyoon denies that subin won her over within the first week of niceties, the truth is that subin was one of the few people that didn't judge jiyoon for how she dressed or portrayed herself. one hangout turned into a couple and soon, they were texting every day and sharing their lunches.

while they don't live with one another (jiyoon lives with her boyfriend in a small apartment they bought together), it's not uncommon to see jiyoon in subin's house after both they're finished with their daily task.

many people question whether or not they're really friends due to jiyoon's bossy nature but subin is genuinely thankful for jiyoon to show her the ropes of the seoul life. they've only met three years ago but act as if they're sisters and it's undeniable that they have each other's backs through thick and thin.

many coworkers playfully complain about how jikyung favors subin and despite jikyung adamantly denying there's any favoritism in mp!, she has to admit that she does have a soft spot for the busan native.

subin tries hard, even if things don't work out and jikyung can't help but baby her for that sole reason. as someone who tries to act older but ultimately gets treated like the baby, subin is clueless as she is talkative and jikyung feels the need to guide her down the right path as someone older with more experience in life.

subin thinks jikyung is one of the nicest people on earth and can't understand why everybody seems to say that jikyung is way stricter than minjin when jikyung has done nothing but give. many times, one will see subin during random times of the day when she's not working in the back with jikyung just chilling as the two of them casually watch the latest episode of a korean drama on the computer in the back.

out of all the people that work at mp, the person that she'd be the least friendly with is minjin. don't get subin wrong, the two of them talk often but that's pretty much all there is to it. it's almost as if she needs to be careful of what she says around minjin — not because he's a bad person or scary in any sort of way — but he's just too! darn! cool! for subin to handle.

she'll talk to minjin when on shift together but majority of the staff notices subin's slight warriness of the elder. (at first, hanyeon thought subin had a crush on minjin to which subin thinks for a quick second then replies, "i mean, he's cute but not my type. is that mean? he's cool though!")

minjin doesn't notice the difference in treatment until someone mentions it to him and the two are currently trying to talk more often without subin skipping off because she can't handle their interaction.

hanyeon is younger than subin but it's clear just who's more responsible between the two when subin accidentally burns her hand pouring hot milk into a cup and hanyeon rushes over to place subin's hand under cold water. subin always coos about how hanyeon is younger than her and just how cute she is but reality is, hanyeon tends to be the one that has to look out for subin and her klutzy attitude. from making sure subin isn't tripping on air to accepting subin's waves of affection with a tight smile, it's funny how they seem to be opposites yet have each other's backs so seamlessly.

minjin will playfully note, however (cue a punch from hanyeon) that they've come so far from when the two met. it's not that they didn't like each other, it's that they just clashed hard. hanyeon was too neutral, too nonchalant compared to subin who's exuberant and talkative personality made it just a bit awkward between the two when subin finishes up a story with a laugh, hanyeon responding with a nod.

even so, co-workers spend a lot of time together and the more the two were shifted the same shift, the more they realized they had a lot in common. from sharing minjin's secret stash of snacks in the break room to coming in before their shift to play some games, they bond.

while hanyeon definitely thinks of subin as her older sister, it's not common for subin to be the one getting taken care of and while hanyeon does complain at times, it's never out of malice.

the other barista that subin (most often) works with, kwon minjae is subin's other best friend. she actually met him on a blind date that was set up by jiyoon but after a few hours of meeting, they both mutually agreed that it felt more like a friendship than something else. despite it, they're still strong friends and jiyoon finds it hilarious that they're considered best friends after all that.

minjae compliments subin in ways that jiyoon doesn't. he's a bit more mature, consistently making sure that subin is eating all her meals and getting enough sleep (she never is which he tends to have a migraine about) and she definitely appreciates all that he does.

he actually attends school with her and jiyoon and the trio are always seen together during their breaks. from going out to drink then crashing promptly at someone's place after a night of drinking when finals are over to studying all together at a café until closing, the three of them seem to do everything together.

when kyumin and subin first step into the outing hosted by their major's seniors, nothing is out of the ordinary. the freshman introduce themselves, state their go-to drink order at starbucks, show off a talent, take a couple of shots and play games. the night is filled with rambunctious laughter and it's only when subin comes back from the bathroom does she realize that only her and kyumin are the ones awake. having a high tolerance for alcohol, the two of them are left to clean up the bottles and open containers of food and it's during this time when kyumin and subin get to know one another.

they start dating in their junior year of college after months of being friends and it's almost sickening how they're still in their honeymoon stage. despite the fact that they don't have time for one another, they still find a way to see one another — even if it's something small.

he's a familiar face in the gaming cafe as he usually spends his free time here when subin is on shift and it's not surprising to see a tall figure loitering around the barista section.
