birthname. isabelle seo
other nameS. seo yerin – isabelle's korean name. she hardly ever uses the name and she wouldn't really respond to it if you call her that
nicknames.

— belle | her most commonly used nickname, as well as her stage name. her friends had found it easier to use a name with one syllable rather than three, and over time, she'd gotten used to the name too. she feels more comfortable being called belle than she does isabelle, and she now introduces herself by this name.
— taco belle | this name is one of her many food-related pun nicknames, used by anyone who's heard of the fast food chain and anyone who knows of the girl's appetite. other food pun names include : 'babybelle' ( after the cheese snack brand babybel ) and 'pepper' ( from 'belle' peppers )
— koala | belle is affectionate once she gets to know someone well, and her clinginess often gets her compared to one of australia's native animals, the koala. she embraces the nickname wholeheartedly and even bought herself a stuffed koala to carry around as a joke.
— jinjja machine ( real machine ) | the other trainees might be referred to as 'dancing machines', but within the show, belle is referred to as a real machine, someone who can go on working for ages and not seem to feel tired. because of this, belle is also affectionately nicknamed 'belle-bot' ( she doesn't mind the nickname and likes to joke that she would call her fans her chargers )

birthdate. november 11, 2001
birthplAce. perth, australia
ethnicity. korean
languages.

— english | fluent | her native tongue. belle speaks with quite a strong aussie accent, although it's softened a tiny bit since she'd moved to korea.
— auslan | advanced | her older brother had lost his hearing in an accident when she was thirteen and him fifteen, and he now has to go to a special school where they taught in auslan ( sign language in australia ), so their entire family took up auslan to support him.
— korean | advanced | she'd picked up the language at a conversational level from her yearly visits to her grandparents' place, and ever since she moved to korea to become a trainee, she was able to build on the foundations she already had, though it had been a bit difficult for her to transition to the seoul dialect since her family comes from the jeolla province, and she is more used to speaking the jeolla dialect.
— korean sign language | conversational | because she knows what it's like to live with someone who is deaf, belle made a point to try to learn korean sign language when she first came to korea. she's still not the best at it, but she's getting better.

appearAnce.

— belle isn't what your mind would first jump to when you think of a 'visual', but her looks have definitely caught the public's attention when her teasers were first released, especially when she stands at 170cm tall, almost as tall as some of the male trainees. as one of the few monolids™ on the show, the aussie naturally radiates a charismatic type of girl-crush attitude, but her delicate features and pale skin give her a more feminine edge as well. her hair only really changes when the company wants her to change it, and it's currently dyed a dark shade of brown, lighter than her natural black hair.

fashIOn stYle.

— belle's fashion really depends on her mood for the day, but she normally takes inspiration from hip hop, grunge and punk styles. she likes dressing in more monochromatic, usually simplistic colors, and you can bet that whenever she has the chance to, she'll be wearing her favorite combat boots as well.

positive : sweet, cheerful, playful, altruistic, charismatic
neutral : shy, reserved, passive, mellow, stubborn
negative : insecure, sensitive, reckless, clumsy, workaholic

"are you sure you're going to be okay going on the show alone?" wonhee asks her best friend, the concern in her voice apparent as she watches her friend practically collapse against the mirror, trying to catch her breath. the aussie takes the drink she offers her with a grateful smile and allows her eyes to flutter shut, obviously tired.

it takes a couple more minutes for the girl's lightheadedness to pass, and belle pries her eyes open again, sending her worried friend a bright, energetic grin that almost made her friend forget she hadn't had a proper break in hours. almost. "yeah, i'll be fine," she replies lightly, but the other girl still catches the slight tremble in her voice as she speaks. "do you think my dance looked okay?"

wonhee glares at her. "you look like you're about to pass out and that's what you ask me?"

"if it's not good i'll go do it ag–"

"your dance is fine as it is," wonhee interrupts, reaching a hand out to stop her friend from getting to her feet. belle glances over at the clock hanging in the practice room and drums her fingers restlessly, knowing that people would start trickling in in a couple of hours. she wouldn't have the time to practice at all when the other trainees arrive. "you don't need more practice," her best friend says bluntly, cutting into her thoughts. "you're already really good."

wonhee wasn't lying. it's well known among the trainees that belle, the queen of duality, is one of the most talented trainees they have. she's never off beat, never forgets her lyrics, never messes up and with her strong, charismatic aura onstage, it's natural for people to want to keep looking at her. even during practice wonhee could see how good she would be in front of an audience. but what nobody knows is the sheer amount of effort that the girl puts into practising. if wonhee hadn't found her friend out cold in the practice rooms on multiple occasions, she also wouldn't have known how much time belle spends practising, but since then, she'd made it her duty to take care of the aussie, who obviously can't take care of herself.

"you're not allowed to practice this late when you go on the show, okay?" the girl says, looking straight into belle's eyes. "don't get hurt too!! i swear with the amount of times you trip when you're practising isn't good for you. i won't be able to monitor you so you're not allowed to spend all your time in the practice room. you need to get enough sleep and you can't skip any meals to practice and i swear to god if i hear you're overworking yourself i will personally make my way over and–"

"i get it," belle laughs, taking another small sip from her drink. "i'll try to take care of myself more." she moves closer to wonhee, resting her head on her friend's shoulder and earning herself a light punch from the other female, who pushes her away with protests of something along the lines of 'you're sweaty and gross'.

"and you have to be more outgoing on the show, okay? i know you're shy but you have to make friends on the show. and don't hide from the cameras either! no matter how good you are onstage if you don't leave a strong first impression then you're going to be edited out okay there's too many people for the show to focus on and they'll only focus on the interesting ones. and and if you want a center position you have to go for it! you can't let someone else take the opportunity and before you say anything yes i know that that's something you would do."

wonhee knows that belle takes a long time to warm up, and she knows that belle would rather stay out of the spotlight whenever possible, but she also knows that her friend deserves better. when she first decided to become friends with belle, she quickly realized the girl who had always practiced in the corner where nobody could see her was actually really sweet, and over time, the other girls came to know this side of her too. belle is cheerful, with her signature bright smile, and she always just seems to know when people are down, cheering them up to the best of her abilities. she's warm and she always thinks of others first, taking time out of her own training to help the newer trainees with their dance moves, translating for foreign trainees and giving them pointers on their diction. honestly, belle deserves the world.

belle giggles, throwing her now empty juice box at her friend. "you're more worried than i am." wonhee's eyes widen in mock anger and she launches herself at the other girl, who scoots out of the way, doubling over in laughter. "i'll be fine on the show," she says after they both calm down a bit, hoping her friend couldn't hear the hesitation in her voice.

belle has always been insecure, and frankly, the idea of being on the show scared her a bit. she wasn't sure what the viewers would think of her, and she wasn't sure she would be able to handle the insults thrown at her from the people who don't support her ( she's sure they'll be many. it takes her a while to warm up to people and really, people would probably find her rude or boring before she really opens up ). what if they don't like me? what if they find me annoying.

what if i'm not good enough?

she plasters another smile on her face and hopes she looks happy and confident enough that her friend buys into the lie that she isn't that bothered about the show. it's what she's always done anyway.

bAckground.

if you asked belle, she would say that her life was pretty normal. she was born as the youngest child in a financially stable family, doted on by her parents and completely spoiled by her older brother harrison, she had relatively good grades in school and she had a couple of friends living in the same part of the neighborhood. aside from the fact that she was asian, she never really stood out from the rest of the children in her neighborhood. she was normal.

her interest in music started through rapping. when she was in secondary school, one of the few koreans at her school had introduced her to khiphop, and she found herself immediately addicted to the way the lyrics rolled off her tongue. she started writing lyrics in her free time ( she was a quiet girl, afraid of expressing herself, but she had found an outlet for her worries and stress through writing lyrics ) and eventually, her talent for rapping was no longer a secret when her brother walked in on her practising. he was her biggest supporter, encouraging her to continue with music when she found it hard and helping her with her lyrics whenever she got stuck ( he was much better at korean than her ).

but the year she turned thirteen, everything changed. her brother had lost his hearing in an accident that had damaged his ears, and belle lost her only listener. he could no longer hear the things she wanted to say, and that's when she decided to take up dance instead in a desperate attempt to find another way of expressing herself to the only person who mattered. her parents fully supported her in dance when they saw how hard she worked ( they still didn't know that what she really wanted to pursue was music, though ) and in her short few years learning dance, she had already become the best in her class.

when she was fifteen, the dance studio she went to encouraged her to start auditioning for companies, and though she wasn't sure whether that would be a good choice, her brother's excitement at the prospect of seeing his sister perform onstage erased all her doubts. as long as it made her brother happy, she would do anything. her parents seemed to be supportive of the idea too, and she started sending in videos of herself rapping and dancing. half a year later, she received her first callback.

LIKES.

— food : it's no secret that belle is one of the biggest eaters on the show, especially with her fast metabolism, and she loves all types of food. sweets have a special place in her heart, though

— winter : she absolutely loves snow during winters and you can bet if it's snowing she'll be the first to run out and play. even if it's not snowing, though, she always thinks it's better to be cold and have a lot to wear than be hot and not be able to take things off.

— hip hop : cuz duh, she's a rapper. if she doesn't like hip hop then something's wrong.

— nighttime : she thinks it's calming and there's a lot less people around at night than in the mornings, which means she can practice in peace.

DISLIKES.

— arguing : she tries to stay out of arguments when possible and even if she isn't involved in the argument, she still feels uncomfortable when people are arguing around her.

— when shows aren't signed for the deaf people : ever since her brother had become deaf, she's definitely gotten a lot more sensitive towards the needs of the deaf community, and she definitely films translations for the show into sign language for her brother to understand when the staff aren't watching.

— carrots : the only food that belle doesn't like. she hates the taste of carrots and always picks them out from the plate.

— horror movies : she's absolutely hopeless with horror films and you'll probably find her clinging onto the nearest person throughout the entire movie.

HOBBIES.

— writing lyrics / rapping : it's something she's been doing ever since she could remember, and it's one of her ways of releasing all the emotion she keeps to herself on a daily basis.

— producing : she'd started by making the beats to her raps, and she eventually moved onto writing songs. she'd never had the courage to show anyone, though.

— reading : she gains a lot of inspiration for her lyrics from reading, and so you'll find her carrying around a couple of novels from time to time.

HABITS.

— stretching : belle is a nervous stretcher, and she also feels really underprepared when she doesn't get to stretch before a performance.

— skipping lunch : despite being a big eater, belle still finds herself skipping lunch in favor of practice. it's not a healthy habit but she has trouble getting out of it.

— picking scabs : another one of her bad habits. she doesn't like the feeling of having scabs, and she often finds herself picking them when she's anxious or insecure or mad.

— languages : she tends to switch between english and korean often, especially with trainees that do speak english, and sometimes she even slips into sign language when she doesn't want anyone to understand what she's saying ( a good example would be her cussing in auslan )

— covering her face : she puts her hands in front of her face when she's embarrassed or flustered, and she gets flustered VERY easily.

FEARS.

— thunder : belle is terrified of thunder and absolutely cannot sleep if there is thunder and she's alone.

— failure : there is a lot of expectation on belle to do well in the things that she does, and since then she has developed a fear of failure or messing up. that's why she spends so much of her spare time practising, afraid to make a mistake when it really matters.

SPECIAL TALENTS.

— learning languages : she had learned to pick up languages quickly over time, and she finds it fun learning the basics of a language whenever she goes to a new country. she like trying different dialects as well.

— boy group dance : she's a lot better at the hard-hitting boy group dances than she is with soft girl group concepts, and she will not hesitate to jump out and dance along to her favorite songs.

— aegyo : she knows she's good at aegyo and will definitely use it to get what she wants with her friends. she doesn't do aegyo much around strangers though.

— surviving with close to no sleep : she spends most of her time practising or writing lyrics, and she can basically survive on one hour of sleep a day. she also has the amazing talent of falling asleep as soon as she gets into bed.

FUN FACTS.

— she's been a relatively big fan of the produce series since it first started, and she's pretty much prepared for the things that might happen on the show.

— belle hates makeup with a passion, and is one of those trainees that would walk around bare-faced whenever she can get out of it.

— it's not a secret that belle is extremely affectionate, and you would often find her backhugging, hugging, holding hands with or resting her head on her friends ( unless she's scared. then she isn't too picky about who she has skinship with as long as they've talked once )

— if there's an idol she knows on the show, she will fangirl as discreetly as possible, but if she eventually gets to know them well, she WILL let them know how much of a fan she is.

— do NOT let belle in the kitchen. the chances she'll burn the kitchen down, or at least burn herself, are huge.

— belle is left handed but is better with her right leg when it comes to sports and stuff like that.

— she's one of those people who looks through the internet for comments about herself as a way to validate how well she's doing, and she definitely doesn't handle it well if she sees any bad comments about herself, immediately throwing herself into hours of endless practice.

— belle introduces herself in both english and korean, signing her intros once in a while as well.

— there is a history of anemia in belle's family, and belle has been diagnosed with anemia from a young age.

belle WOULD SAY...

— "just one more time? i promise i'll go get rest after i get this part down." "it's two in the morning, belle. you've been saying this since midnight."

— *laughs weakly* "what do you mean? i'm not–i'm definitely not nervous i don't know what makes you think i'm nervous i'm so prepared for this i'm not going to forget my lyrics oh god what if i forget my lyrics what if i mess up what if i trip onstage what if–"

— *growls* "i'm not cute i'm scary!!"

— ( to the staff members or the other trainees ) "if you're tired you can go first!!! i'll be fine on my own i'm just going to stay and practise one more time..."

— ( holding out candy ) "do you want some???? you look sad. don't be saddd~ you'll do well, okay? you will, i know it."

— "uhh sorry but which camera do i look into again??"

— *in mock frustration* "no i'm not going to say 'g'day mate' instead of hi!!! do you see me saying 'g'day mate' on a daily basis? no!"

— "food!!!!! yayyyyyyy~"

— "look look look it's [insert company name]!!!"

— ( when she makes a mistake ) "i'm so so sorry. i'll do better i promise."

— brother | harrison seo ( seo yejun ) / born 1999 / university student /  kim sanggyun, jbj95 / 10

belle doesn't think she could've gotten to where she is now without her older brother. harrison is belle's biggest supporter, her confidant and the only one who can read her like an open book. she's definitely had it quite hard being away from him, and now that she's on the show and isn't allowed to call him as often as before, she isn't really sure how she'll handle the pressures of being in the spotlight.

— best friend | go wonhee / 19 / ts entertainment trainee /  lee sian, pd48 / 9

when belle first came to the company, she mostly stuck to herself, hiding in the corner and not speaking unless she had to, but wonhee had made it her duty to become the girl's friend. over time, the two girls had become closer than ever, and wonhee kind of acts as belle's second mother, making sure she eats on time and other small things like that. the only reason wonhee isn't on the show is because she's already preparing to debut in a group and the company doesn't want to risk any of the groups having to delay their debut because of the contract with the show.

TRAINEE YEARS.

— 2 and a half ish years

TRAINEE BACKGROUND.

— belle's trainee years were difficult, to be honest. she had trouble adjusting to the new environment, she didn't know anyone and she wasn't exactly the best at everything she thought she had been good at. all she knew was that she needed to work harder in order to catch up, and for a while, her trainee life only consisted of practising. she was the teacher's pet and the staff loved her, but she couldn't say the same about the other trainees, who were jealous of the attention she was getting. she had trouble talking to the other trainees, so it was natural that they thought that she thought she was too good to talk to them. when wonhee came along, though, belle became a lot less uptight, and she quickly opened up to the other girls as well, who realized that she wasn't being arrogant, but was just shy.

there was a lot of pressure on belle to be the top trainee, and she always made sure she delivered what was expected from her, but it took a toll on her physical and mental health too, her confidence dropping and her body becoming weak from her habit of overworking herself.

AUDITION TAPE.

( things said in english are in bold )

Introduce yourself.

— belle bows, sending a bright, confident towards the camera, though if you looked closely enough, her tightly clasped hands were enough to reveal the girl's nervousness. be bubbly, be likeable, the girl reminds herself. "hello!! i'm ts entertainment's seo yerin, belle!!! hi, i'm belle from ts entertainment~

Why did you choose produce 101?

— she hums, her lips pursed as she thinks of what to say. "i've wached the show and i think it's one of the best survival shows in the country," she says, giggling sheepishly. "i'm also a fan of the produce series..." her voice trails off at the end of the sentence and a light blush crawls up her cheeks.

Are you confident in yourself?

no. absolutely not. she wills her smile to grow brighter, her eyes forming small crescents of their own. "mmhm! i have to be, don't i?" she says instead, knowing that she would feel bad saying the truth. "there's still a lot i have to work on but i'm confident that i will be able to grow through the show!!!"

What if produce 101 have a new concept? Would you still want to join?

— she blinks, cocking her head to one side in confusion, her smile temporarily fading as she tries to understand what the producer is trying to say. "does that mean there's going to be some big twist this year?" she asks, eyes wide in excitement. "i think it's going to be fun if there's a new concept!!!" some of the staff chuckle at the girl, who's almost bouncing in anticipation at the thought of a new concept. cute.

What is your specialty?

— "i'm kind of a triple threat," she says shyly. "i mostly do rap but i do dance as well and i...i enjoy singing? i'm still not that good at singing but i'm definitely trying to get better hehe. i also do some producing? but just as a hobby though i'm still nowhere near where i want to be in the future."

What is your hope and goal?

— "i want to say that i want to debut but i think it'll be pretty much near impossible haha. there's so many talented people here and i don't think i have what it takes to beat everyone. what i really want is validation that i'm good enough, and i also know that i'll be able to learn a lot from the other trainees during my time here~"

What song did you choose for your first evaluation performance?

— she shuffles on her feet anxiously, flashing another smile at the camera to hide her nerves. "i'm going to be performing g dragon sunbaenim's 'who you?'."

additional performances if required :
- rap
- vocal
- dance

comments. i apologize if it's really hard to read, especially the personality section because i write it a weird way and it's sometimes hard to understand and everything but i hope you like her ( i might be missing some things because i deleted the app once by accident so my ideas may not be that logical haha )
password. somewhere in the 80s ( i think 87 is still available? )
suggestions/ideas.

— instead of a phone call to her family, belle is allowed to get a video call to her family so that she can talk to her brother.

— belle passing out during practice after forgetting to take her supplements for her anemia / when she overworks herself again. honestly she'll probably have been feeling off for the entire day but she still manages to be all happy and cheerful until she actually passes out, which surprises everyone.

— please give belle a friend who can take care of her because we all know she's not going to take care of herself.

— belle backhugging someone she thinks is one of her friends but turns out it's actually someone she isn't that close to and she ends up avoiding them for a good couple of weeks ( like the type of avoiding where she sees them walking towards her and she turns and runs the other direction despite knowing she won't be able to get where she needs to go )

— if all the english speaking trainees could just make a whole squad that would be cool tbh.

— honestly if belle gets put in a group where some of them don't exactly see eye-to-eye and she ends up getting frustrated and calling one of them out on their bull ( but in english so everyone just gets really confused unless there's also another english speaking trainee ) that would be cool too.

— i don't know if you've watched produce camp or you've heard of it before ( it's the second season of the chinese produce 101 )  but in that the trainees that could write songs wrote a song together and it became an unofficial produce camp song and it would be great if that could happen haha~

— belle finally gathering the courage to ask for opinions on the songs she wrote.
