— With the height of 188 cm (and 70 kg), this kid towers over most people, making him look like a giant. He isn't the best looking, but hey, looks are the least of Chan's priorities. He constantly has bedhead when he finally leaves his room to go to his classes or go wherever. He tried to cover it up before by using caps, his hoodie, whatever, but eventually gave up after being too lazy to do so. His hair is jet black. He dyed his hair many times before, but he's now settled on his natural shade for the sake of his poor scalp. He has three tattoos, but he currently doesn't have anything big or time consuming due to how much he fidgets. On his chest, forearm, and pinky finger. Also, both his ears are pierced.

fashnstle.

— Comfortable, casual, simple clothing. Most, okay nearly all, of his clothes are dark colors like black, gray, and navy blue. But he swears he has some light colored pieces! Always ends up with a new pair of sport shoes despite jokingly considering himself "poor". Though he wears heavy sweaters and jackets when it starts to get colder outside. Rarely ever dresses up.

prsoNlity.
Don’t judge Chanwoo by his appearance. He may give off an intimidating vibe with his tall height and tired and disheveled look, but once you get to know him, he’s all but that. He’s friendly and cares deeply for those close to him. He can also throw you off guard with his cute side which is a contrast to his appearance.

Chanwoo may not start the conversation but when he starts to talk, you will never be awkward with him. He knows how to charm you to talk about what he likes and is very good at avoiding personal questions. He’s private when it comes to certain parts of his life like his love life and his past.

He never cares about what others think of him but attracting too much attention is not his style. He likes to be the ordinary boy that sticks to his own group of friends.

Chanwoo doesn’t look like it but he is really smart, like genius-level smart. Because of his borderline photographic memory, he doesn’t need to study hard as long as he fully listens and concentrates in lectures.

Due to his long-term interest in video games, he often spends the extra money he doesn’t use for rent and dates on games. It’s almost shocking to those that don’t know him as to how many systems he owns, as well as games he has stacked neatly in his room.

He either plays games when everyone is asleep and at a lower volume, or all day, even skipping meals unintentionally. But don’t worry, the kid has snacks hidden somewhere in his room to eat when he gets hungry and doesn’t feel like cooking.

Whenever he does cook something to eat, he’s actually good at it. Surprisingly enough, he thinks cooking is a pretty fun thing to do. "It’s like Cooking Mama, but I can actually die or hurt myself."

Naturally a curious person, if he notices something about a person he hasn’t noticed before he thinks more on it than he should, but never presses the person about what he noticed, thinking it’s the basic rule of respect. But if they give him the chance to ask what’s on his mind, if everything seems okay to ask, he won’t hesitate on doing just that.

He’s known for doing things other people might be too afraid to try, do, or say, making people always amazed that he hasn’t hurt himself yet.

Despite the fact that Chanwoo can have his serious moments, he can also be very dramatic in a sense that it’s almost childlike, but never with people he doesn’t consider himself close with. If he has to write a three paged essay before the day is over, he’ll act as if it’s the end of the world before actually getting started on it. And if someone close to him suggests he gets to work on it, he acts as if they asked the meanest question in the whole entire world.

bckground.
Chanwoo and his older sister, Shinhye, grew up in Gyeonggi. They were raised by their grandparents whom owned a large farm and sold their fresh fruits and veggies in the market nearby. The two would occasionally help out too. Their parents were working in New York. They don’t hear from them as they don't bother to call or leave messages. They would just send money to them. Chan as he grew close to his grandparents especially his grandmother.

Despite that, it still bothered him that his parents just threw them to be cared for by their grandparents and never bothered to contact them in any way, made him feel unwanted by his parents. Seeing other students with their parents made him feel no doubt jealous. However, Chan found a way to cope with that feeling and a way to distract himself by playing video games, after receiving his first gaming system at 11 years old. Instead of it being a healthy habit of his, it quickly became a bad one. He’d let days go by, his gaze boring into the electronic screen, only getting up to go to the bathroom or to eat when he thought no one else was home. When it was time to wake up for school, he’d be exhausted due to staying up the majority of the night, trying to keep his mind off the unwanted thoughts he keeps having. Shinhye never tried to prevent him from this habit knowing that it eases his mind from his mess of feelings, since the two siblings are close and tell each other nearly everything. Also the fact that it didn’t affect his grades made her only attempt to minimize the time the younger spends on gamming by distracting him with other things.

In middle school, Chan went through a sudden growth sprout and grew to be taller than what a middle schooler normally should be. All the students were afraid to approach him and avoided him cause he looked intimidating, except for one boy. Hyunseop approached him first and the two became really close friends ever since, even inseparable. The two geeks even developed their interest for coding at the same time and studied it together. Chan was better at it than Hyunseop but the other refuses to admit it. However, both of their abilities in coding is outstanding considering their young age.

After getting through high school, Chan got into the same college as Hyunseop and there he made new friends with the same interest as him and was lucky enough to even land himself the best girlfriend he could ask for. Then half-way through his first year of college, his grandmother passed away which made Chan go into a slump but thankfully he had Hyunseop and Gowon to make him get through it, which he did in time.

So now here he is, sophomore in college with a gaming addiction and great grades that amazes many cause the boy rarely studies. He currently aspires to work somewhere in the technology department after college, but to go even higher, he hopes to work for a video game company and code a game of his own. Chan heard about the open advertisement for Belle Epoque through a friend and decided to move out of the apartment with Hyunseop and to there.

In the beginning, Chan tries his best to stay out of everyone's way by staying in his room with all his consoles, or try to seem remotely normal by going out to hang with either Hyunseop or Gowon or both. He gets genuinely shocked when someone in the dorm tells him that they made dinner for everyone including him. After getting to know his housemates, he attempts to try and be more social in the house, including help clean and cook, talk to the other people in the house and make an effort to get closer with everyone.

In the house, Chan is the first person everyone goes to when they're having trouble with their computers or can't figure out what the issue might be with other electronics. He asks them to leave him be for a little while, promising to resolve whatever issue they might have, and fixes whatever the issue might be for free. He’s also usually one of the first people that's woken up in the middle of the night when someone claims to have heard something strange in another part of the dorm (because let's be honest, this kid would either intimidate or fight an armed robber if it meant his friends were scared).

fun facts.

Likes: video games, snacks, having alone time, apple juice, banana milk, milkshakes, soccer (but is too afraid and lazy to join the college's team), computers, coding, anything electronic.
Dislikes: early morning classes, arguing, being interrupted, hurting others, when his hand-held systems are dropped or die on him, scratched CDs, extreme weather, obnoxious people, schoolwork in general.
Habits: He tends to play with his fingers when he doesn't have anything to fidget with or is nervous about something. When he's trying to get to know someone or is listening to something someone is telling him, he gives a lot of eye-contact, but not enough to make anyone uncomfortable. He doesn't eat breakfast because he's always nearly late to class. Usually gets in trouble because he brings his ing Nintendo Switch into class. Procrastination is both his best and worst enemy; he somehow manages to get his work done, but also some of his best work came from the very last minute.
Hobbies: gaming, computer programming, playing with jigsaw puzzles, recently has gotten into photography (per request of his sister who literally needed this kid to get off the internet).
Fears: Is deathly afraid of being in a complete body of water. Since he can’t swim and has had a past of almost drowning before, he does not like being in pools and just dips his legs in. Public speaking is his worst enemy; if he has to, he may look calm on the outside, but on the inside his brain is doing a forced shut down. Doesn’t like snakes or spiders and isn’t the type to try and hold them if someone has them for pets. Doesn’t like making big decisions in fear of ruining something for himself or others.
Pet Peeves: When people barge in on him in the bathroom without checking to see if anyone is already in it. His things being touched without being asked, especially if it's his snacks or consoles. If you want something of his, please just ask. People that cough or sneeze without covering their mouth in front of him. If you do that, he's probably going to stand on the other side of the room for a good 10 minutes. Being told to do something he was just about to do; it will make him lose all his motivation.
— Looks like he would kill you, but is actually a cinnamon roll.
— He can write with both hands at the same time.
— He doesn’t want to learn how to drive. After all public transportations are there for a reason.
— Don't wake him up from his nap unless it's important.
— With the amount of time he spends on electronics, it's a miracle that he doesn't require to wear glasses.
— Good at fixing things like the Wi-Fi because he's probably going to be the first person to notice.
— Is an amazing listener, but doesn't like bothering people with his own issues.
— Had his cross tattoo on his pinky finger made in memory of his grandmother who passed away last year. She used to drag him to church with her every Sunday morning and showed him off to her friends.
— Greatly misses his grandmother's home cooked meals, especially her special ddukbokki which tastes sweeter than it normally should be.
— Is good with old people and knows how to get them to like him.
— Works part-time at a drug store nearby the campus to help pay for things, including rent.
— Originally roomed with his best friend, Hyunseop, off campus but moved out when his friend set a timer on the Wi-Fi and he couldn't crack the code.
— Enjoys all things horror, as he finds it difficult to be scared in real life, and that's mainly why he does things other people wouldn't do.
— Anything with banana makes him happy; banana cake, banana smoothie, banana coffee (idk if that’s real lol).
— When he's bored, he will bite anything near him. So beware.
— He will kiss anyone near him if he's really drunk but that rarely happens cause he normally has high alcohol tolerance. The only time he got really drunk, he ended up kissing Hyunseop who was thrown off-gaurd and then continuously attempting to do it again while Gowon watched the two with complete amusement.
— He will cry if many people start pressuring him at the same time and will cry harder if someone try to comfort him.
— Has a huge appetite. Doesn’t get fat though and Hyunseop would joke saying it all goes into his abnormal height.
— Is a picky eater. Doesn't eat many vegatables like pepper, carrots, onions, broccoli, and etc.
— Sleeps half .
— Can probably sleep through a hurricane.
— Has a hand-sized pet box turtle called Koopa. Named after a tortoise character from Super Mario.
— Being raised as the youngest with his grandparents, he became good at aegyo cause that’s what he often used to get himself out of trouble, being lectured, or unfavorable situations and it always worked.

"Chanwoo, tell me your bank account, I'll let Shinhye send you money."
"Ah grandpa~ I already told you, it's fine. I have a job that pays enough and noona sends me my share of our parents' money."

— Grandparents : Kim Geunhyung and Yoon Yuhjung ✝ / 78 and 73 y.o / Farmers / Calm, caring, hard-working, loving / 10-10

He loves them to bits. Ever so grateful and appreciative for the love and care they provided him and his sister. They raised them as their own children and would constantly brag about them to their friends. They treat him like the baby of the family (which he is) and let him off the hook easily because of his aegyo. His grandmother's death last year did greatly affect him for a while but he moved on after some time and got a cross tattoo in memory of her. Ever since he moved to Seoul, his grandfather would call him once a couple weeks to see how he's doing and ask him if he needs money, which Chan would refuse everytime and tell him to just not over-work himself.

"Noona!! Did you seriously post that ugly childhood photo on Instagram?? AND tag me in it?! Delete it!!"
"The one where I look super cute? Yeah, not a chance."

— Older Sister : Kim Shinhye / 28 y.o / Doctor / Protective, observant, wise, thoughtful / 10-10

Him and his sister are as close as siblings can be. People almost immediately know who Chanwoo is when he meets someone that knows his sister, because she’s always worrying about him and telling people to look out for him when she can’t. Though Shinhye has graduated years ago and now works at a hospital back in Gyeonggi, she would come to Seoul to surprise him every once in a while and get him out of his room. They can talk about anything with each other, even if a fight were to happen between them it’s unusual for it to last long. If they’re together, there’s never a dull moment and she always finds a way to make him feel better if something is wrong.

"Nu-uh, no drinking with me around. I'm never having a repeat of that night again. You scared me!"
"Oh shut it, that was the best kiss you're gonna ever have. I bet you even enjoyed it."
"OHH K NOO!!"

— Best Friend : Ahn Hyunseop / 20 y.o / Student / Trustworthy, optimistic, goofy, nosy / 9-10

Hyunseop is like the annoying brother he didn’t ask for, but got stuck with and refuses to let go. They met during their first year of middle school and stuck to each other like glue, going to the same high school and eventually the same college. He is one of the people helping Shinhye look after Chanwoo to make sure he eats enough and at least gets off his gaming systems to study, do homework, or hang out (though he’d still be looking after him even if she didn’t ask.) If there’s an issue, it doesn’t matter how bad, Hyunseop always finds a way to make it positive and provide the best possible advice he can come up with. Yet behind all this kindness that the kid shows, he still finds a way to piss his best friend off through his playful remarks and meddling ways in an attempt to “encourage” him. Regardless, Chanwoo loves him like a brother but still almost pushes him down the steps when they walk to class together.

"Why are you staring?? Is there something on my face??"
"No, I wasn't really looking at you. I was just thinking about whether or not I'd save you during a zombie attack if it happened now while you're forcing me to study this dumb book."
"Omg stop being such a drama queen."

— Girlfriend : Park Gowon / 20 y.o / Student / Sweet, considerate, hard-working, sensitive / 8-10

The two met in their first year of college when Hyunseop dragged him along to a blind double date. Chan wasn’t the least interested in dating at first but Gowon initiated conversation with him and the two hit it off. Except, they started out as friends at first and gradually moved to dating. Chan literally has no idea how he ever got lucky to have a girlfriend like Gowon. Gowon is the literal definition of sweet and considerate. She likes making Chan flustered, but never in a sense that’s with bad intentions. Just enough to make him drop his walls of protection and help him speak his mind more freely than he might usually. Other than the fact that she likes making people smile and feel welcome around her, she’s very hard working and self-disciplined. She knows when it’s time to focus and is amazing at using her time wisely, so often when the two pair up, she helps him focus on his work and studying. Whenever these two hang out, Chan can seemingly never focus for long. One minute, they're both leaving each other alone to study their respected subjects, the next, Chan is caught staring at Gowon and says something dramatic. When she isn't making Chan smile or helping (more like forcing) him study, she's flicking his forehead to keep him from making reckless decisions on 2 hours of sleep cause he was playing video games all night. Gowon is literally the only person who can make Chan leave his room and stop gamming to hang out, without him causing a hassle. Sometimes she’d come over to the dorm to hang out with Chan and join him in playing games, despite not being a gamer herself, but she loves seeing him all riled up and excited.

"I found the perfect Christmas song for you!"
"Hm what is it?"
"Single bells, single bells, single all the way. Oh what fun it is to ride nothing because you're single."

— Housemate : Cho Sihyun / 26 y.o / Graduate Student / Energetic, friendly, witty, clumsy / 7-10

Sihyun's the first female housemate to approach him and with her bubbly and friendly personality, it was easy to get along with her. The two develop to have an almost Tom-and-Jerry-like friendship. Chan likes to by doing things like standing in front of her then looking down at her with a sly smile and pat her head. They'd even jokingly have an aegyo battle making the other housemates cringe. He's also her assigned kitchen helper cause afterall they're going to be cooking for 14 young adults.

your secret?.

— In second year of high school, everyone knew how skilled and talented both Chan and Hyunseop are at coding for they easily won many competitions the school sent them to. So, one day after school, they were approached by a stranger who offered the two a deal; help him with a challenge and in return he’s going to pay them a great sum of money. Hyunseop’s intuition told him not to do it and he immediately refused. However, Chan was intrigued with the idea of a new “challenge” for coding has become fairly easy for him, so he asked what the challenge was. Hyunseop looked at him like he’d grown a second head and then angrily whispered to him “Yah, don’t you find it sketchy at all!” But he ignored his friend thinking that he could just back out anytime. The man smirked and gave him a paper with a phone number on it and to call him at 2 A.M sharp that night before he left. Hyunseop kept scolding him the whole way back home trying to convince the other to just ignore it but the other was just stubborn. So when it was time, Chan called the number and after he was given the instructions of what to do, he belatedly realized that the man wanted him to hack into a small bank’s tight system. He refused to do it but then the man threatened him by telling him that if he doesn’t do what he tells him to, he has information on his grandparents and older sister and he’ll hurt them. Scared, Chan regrettably helped them on hacking that system and successfully on two others. Not wanting Hyunseop to be dragged into this mess, when his friend asked him about it, he answered that he decided to ignore the last second. His friend wasn’t much convinced but shrugged it off knowing that if he wanted to tell him he’d tell him. As a hacker, Chan went by the name Cipher (C1PH3R) during heists. However, on the third heist, Chan slipped up for the police force expected their next destination, and the thieves were caught. Noticing that, he freaked out and started to erase everything regarding his existence as a hacker and anything that could point out to him. He called Hyunseop and when his friend heard how he was in a breakdown, he told him that he’s coming over right away. He didn’t ask his friend much questions at first and got to helping him erase his traces right away. After they were done, Chan got an all-night scolding that included too many cussing, “I told you so”, and some shoulder punches here and there. In the end, Chan cut all ties with them and buried it as his dark past. He even had insomnia for a year due to how worried he was at the possibility of being rat out by the captain of the heists, who was the only one who personally knew him. So, if he is to ever be discovered, Chan is surely going to be facing some legal actions.

(Explicit subject) Chan and Gowon have been dating for almost a year now and just like any couples, the two find themselves in heated make-out sessions a lot. However, that’s the farthest they’ve gone. Some body roaming here and there but that’s it. Chan would always stop from there, feeling satisfied. Then one day, Gowon gets fed up and confronts him about it which surprises him cause he thought, more like assumed, that she wasn’t ready for it. She gets all sensitive and insecure before leaving him all confused. Chan then realizes that he never really talked about with Gowon because he never found himself desiring it, which was selfish of him he realizes. He loves Gowon a lot, like damn the boy is whipped, but it’s got nothing to do with her. He just never had an interest in or anything related to it. Believe it or not, he’s never even masterbaited. Chan did find it weird but never bothered to question it since it didn’t affect him… that is, until now. Later on, after much thought and talk with Hyunseop, he discovers that he’s in fact Aual. So he decides that he should talk about it with Gowon and they could work it out together.

your mug, house slippers, etc?.

what does your side of the room look like?.

— His side of the room, other than one too many consoles, computer monitors, systems and games, is rather neat and somewhat spacious. He keeps everything organized, especially the work he has to study so he doesn't get stressed out about what he has to do, or what he's already finished. He has a bunch of pillows but he ends up kicking them off the bed in his sleep. The room of course isn't bright in terms of color, sporting dark colors, because he finds that brightly colored fabrics hurt his eyes in the morning. If anybody were to touch anything of his, he'd know because he keeps everything in particular places.

daily schedule.

— Chan gets up (forces himself out of bed) around ten in the morning on week days and rushes to his campus where he’s always a bit late for his first class but thankfully his professors like him so he easily gets off the hook. Then after he’s done with classes at around 3, he’d go to the drug store near campus to start his shift there. His shift ends at 5 and if he doesn’t have any plans, he’d rush to catch the 5:15 bus to go back to the house.
— At night, that’s when he usually sits on his PS4 and plays all night. Making sure not to get too excited or cause a fuss in order to not annoy or wake up his roommate. Snacks also accommodate his night. He usually goes to bed around six or seven in the morning.
— On the weekends, Chan usually sleeps in, forget breakfast and sometimes even lunch. Most of his weekends he stays in playing video games unless he’s dragged out by Hyunseop to hang out or Gowon to go on dates. If someone forces him to get out of his room without any console, he’d be found sitting on the sofa wrapped up with his fur blanket like a cocoon and pouting and grumbling like a child.

comments. I'm not sure if his second "secret" is considered a secret but I just put it there. Anyway, hope you like this giant geek!!

— Some of the housemates wake Chan up in the middle of the night because they heard scary noises coming from the living room. So, all riled up because he's convinced someone broke in, he steadies the pan in his hold and turns on the light and sees that it’s just one of the housemates who came back really late completely drunk.
