BACKGROUND
my dreadful past
♡ niko matsui grew up in a family of doctors so whether she likes it or not, her path had already been set out for her the second she was born. her parents often projected her future out for her, not bothering to know what she thinks or feels about it. her parents are a pair of well-respected pokemon doctors and her older brother, following their parents, was on his way of becoming one too. niko, on the other hand, appears to be a slow-learner and not as bright as her other family members. she lacked the memorization skill and interest in the field. not even tutoring from her esteemed parents or her sharp brother could help her rise above her weakness. soon enough, her parents diverted their attention on the future of her older brother while niko spent most of her youth living the life of an ordinary teenager. although, she’d still study hard and visit her local pokemon center from time to time in hopes she’d improve and gain back her parents' attention. after graduating from school, to please her parents, niko attended the sinnoh university in the faculty of pokemon medicine. she hated every bit of it and wished each day would go by faster. even after two years of studying and good grades, she still hasn’t gained her parents' approval. because of that, niko was often stressed out and her secret stress relief was taking part in pokemon contests, unknown to her parents. niko discovered that she and leon were a natural, winning a couple of ribbons. she loved all the applause and support they’d receive afterwards. she enjoyed being a coordinator but didn’t think much of it and would always go back to hitting the books the next day.
the start of my new beginnings
♡ one day as she was hanging out with her school friends, she was approached by a woman who gave her an established model agency’s business card and told her to come to the auditions the following week. her friends hyped out about how she was street casted and talked about how she looked suitable to be a model. niko wasn’t planning on going, however, as she was exasperated from studying on that day she couldn’t stop thinking about the audition, so she sneaked out and went there. to her surprise, she flawlessly passed the auditions and she loved the attention that she got. after much time pondering, niko dropped out of the university after signing with the model agency. her parents, as expected, did not to like the path their youngest daughter had taken. niko got into a big fight with them and they cut her off for not following in their footsteps, calling her their biggest disgrace. so she lived rough for the first couple of months working endlessly; from photo shoots to shooting cf's and more. she and her leon are steadily gaining recognition, often traveling around different regions for work. thus, she became known as the rising rookie model niko matsui and gained the nickname of the nation’s first love. yes, there are hard days but at least she now enjoys what she’s doing.

the person who niko sees the most is alec and his sweet sudowoodo. as calm and collected he usually is, he puts up with her daily from her sugar highs to her random breakdowns. she might nag her manager a lot but she's still thankful to the other for working so hard for her and having so much trust in her. the two are close as niko considers alec as a friend. one second they're having a silly argument then next they're taking care of each other. when they're not working, they'd be each other's drinking buddy and listen to each other's worries.

jules and she are both models in the same agency so that’s how they met. despite not knowing each other for long, they quickly became close. jules is like the annoying brother she didn’t ask for but got stuck with and refuses to let go. if there’s an issue, it doesn’t matter how bad, he always finds a way to make it positive and provide the best possible advice he can come up with. yet behind all this kindness that the model shows, he still finds a way to piss niko off through his playful remarks and meddling ways in an attempt to “encourage” her. regardless, niko loves him like a brother.

niko meets aiden and his squad midst her vacation in hoenn and their first meeting was pleasant with aiden stating that he's a fan and asking for her autograph. she thinks the younger boy is cute and thus entertained him and his friends. however, whenever they crossed paths with each other later on, niko would sigh knowing that wherever they are something is surely to follow. whether it's to help them out of trouble or break up internal arguements. despite that, seeing them all be so passionate with their dreams and what they're doing makes her feel happy that they're freely living their youth.

niko first met leon as an eevee when she was 12y. her hometown is home to pokemon contests and the ghost-type gym in sinnoh, so it attracts many trainers. the sight of pokemon trainers training their pokemons is common, however, one specific one caught her attention. the angry trainer kept critisizing his eevee which looked to be scared and hurt. seeing that scene, niko confronted the trainer telling him he should heal and take care of his pokemon instead of harshly training it. when the trainer took his eevee to the pokemon center, niko saw the trainer making his way to leave without taking its pokemon. stopping him and asking him, the trainer scoffed, "it's a useless pokemon, it serves no purpose to me no more." before turning to leave. shocked at that, niko turned to sadly look at the deflated abandoned eevee. her strong distaste for trainers mistreating and abandoning their pokemons began here. her heart broke and that's when she decided to take in eevee and be a friend and partner to it. "hey little fella, do you want to come with me? i promise to never hurt you." hesitant at first but remembering how she cared for its wellbeing and rushed him to the center, eevee agreed. eevee was agitated, alarmed, and timid for awhile. but after being reassured and received lots of love and attention from niko, he grew to be confident, tender, and devoted towards her. whenever she was feeling down or stressed, eevee was her source of comfort. eevee evolved into sylveon when she was 18y and that's when she decided to name her partner leon. during her time competing in pokemon contests, she saw how many trainers gave their pokemons nicknames and it strengthened their bond, so she decided to do the same, wanting to brace her bond with her partner. leon is a calm and tamed pokemon. he's very affectionate with niko so he likes to cuddle next to her, move between and rubbing against her legs, be petted on the head and etc. however, when it comes to other trainers' pokemons he'd be aloof, judgy, and sassy towards them. niko loves all her pokemons equally but her bond with leon is the strongest. after all, they've been together for fifteen years now.

during her time as a pokemon coordinator, niko encountered a competitor who she befriended that joined with a pachirisu. she thought the pokemon was so cute and charming she wanted one as well. so, she set out with leon to go catch one which she did. "omg you'e so adorbs!! from now on you'll be chiri. let's get along well." coming back home with chiri, she noticed her parents displeased reactions. "you have a test tomorrow but instead of studying you went out to play and caught a new pokemon? tsk, no wonder mom and dad are disappointed." her brother's words stung. she cried herself to sleep that night while leon and chiri tried to console her. for the longest time, niko hadn't thought of catching a new pokemon, remembering this scene whenever she does. chiri is a friendly pokemon who likes to act cute. she enjoys hearing compliments and even seeks them out most times so niko makes sure to always praise chiri whenever she's good. and just like her trainer, chiri is a dessert lover as well and is niko's tasting buddy.

as niko got away from her parents suffocating grasp, she finally was learning to let go of all the trauma's she got from them and one of them was catching new pokemons. during a cf shooting she had in the galar region, her eyes couldn't help but notice a minccino cleaning up the backstage. she found it cute and asked a staff who's pokemon it is which the staff answered that no one has a minccino pokemon here. with that, niko assumed that it's a wild pokemon. chuckling she approached the minccino and thanked it for its hard work and gave it a poffin in appreciation. then just when she was about to leave the studio, the minccino ran to her and jumped into her arms. seeing this scene, alec told her that the minccino probably wants to be her pokemon. niko grinned, "well aren't you a darling. your name is mino from now on. welcome to the family~" mino is an energetic pokemon in comparison to leon and chiri. he likes to be active; socializing and playing with other pokemons and people. he's brimmed with confidence and is curious in nature so he tends to wonder off on his own and niko lets him be knowing he'll come back.
