☠ SHIN JIAE IS ALONG FOR THE JOURNEY } CABIN BOY

SHIN

J i a e

NICKNAMES:

✩ HANSUNG

Jiae's plan to disguise herself included making up a handsome-sounding name as one of her priorities.

✩ TEENY WEENER

Jiae was joking around with her fellow pirates but it somehow led to one trying to grab at her imaginary schlong. Fortunately,  it was nothing serious as nothing had been grabbed. However, it left Jiae with an intangible scar because after this event, a rumor circulated aboard the ship. "Hansung has the tiniest of wieners." That was the beginning of everyone's go-to comeback when losing to Jiae in an argument.

✩   CASANOVA

Used like so, "Why don't you pass that work to Mr. Casanova over there, all he's been doing is taking all the little ladies' ears off."

✩ BOY
✩ HEY YOU
✩ HANSON
✩ PASTY- LOOKIN' BOY

Cue Jiae saying "This is insulting! I have a name!" No one can't seem to remember Jiae's name at all so they call her random names.

LANGUAGE SPOKEN:

✩ HWAN (KOREAN)

Despite Hwan being Jiae's native language, she's illiterate. She can write her name down but not a single woman she knows seems to be able to read or write.

✩ VALGIAN (ENGLISH)

Jiae learned to converse in Valgian from her dwarven 'uncles'. She speaks in simple phrases, like a child, but she's not so unfamiliar with curse words that she wouldn't know when someone is talking sh!t about her. If you do plan on insulting her, you can probably do so by calling  her names like 'soggy sock' or 'raw egg noodle'.

APPEARANCE:

Aside from looking like a teenage boy, Jiae's most noticeable feature is her pale complexion and skin so smooth that one would wonder if face masks haven't actually been invented yet. However, her prominent eye bags makes her look tired all the time.

FASHION:

HANBOKS [] [

Simple but eye-catching hanboks line her drawers at home. She misses wearing them but then again, it's just not practical. She makes up for it by embroidering her pirate ensemble with flowers. During nights when she could't sleep, she ends up doing embroidery. As you can see, her coat has become more fashionable.

"BORROWED" []

Before she ran away from home, she looked for clothes that she needed inside her brothers' drawers. She already knew which ones fit her.

STOLEN FROM DEAD- DRUNK PIRATES
[] hat, top, coat
[] belts, pants, boots

She usually wears these set of clothes on-board because it make her feel like a real pirate (she already is, isn't she?). She always wears three belts like how the picture depicts but somehow, a belt always gets lost during scruffles.

Either way, Jiae dresses according to the climate. So if it's a hot day, you won't see her with a coat on. And if she feels dirty and sweaty in the clothes, she'll wear her hanbok and wash her pirate ensemble.

Living off a small income from her eldest brother, her family gathers around a simple meal that Jiae prepared to start the day.

After having breakfast, her twin brothers help their grandfather get the small clinic ready. When there is a patient, Jiseok is the one who assists their grandfather (or the patient if their grandfather says something like "oh no, where did the needle go"). If there are no patients, which was usually the case, grandfather recounts the tales of his youth. The two young boys listen eagerly but sometimes Jinsoo utters a "You told us this before already, grandpa!".

As Jiae finishes washing the dishes, she starts with the laundry. The younger twin, Jiwoong shows up to help her. And if the house looks too cluttered or dusty, they clean the house afterwards.

Once the sun is at full force, Jiae prepares lunch with ingredients that Jiwoo reluctantly bought from the town. Jiwoo returns to his usual place outside enjoying the company of their pet goat, comfortable with doing nothing.

After the heavy meal, Jiseok volunteers to do the dishes. Jiae then has some time to herself. Embroidery or exploring the nearby woods? Well, if her grandmother had still been alive, she wouldn't be allowed to play outside at all.

When it's still early out during her free time, she goes to the town in a sprint so that she can get back before it gets dark. To avoid all hassle, she wears her brother's clothing during her trip. When she gets there, she goes to a bar and listens in to the the men boasting about their adventures, fighting sea monsters and whatnot. In her opinion, they're much more exciting than her grandpa's stories.

Jiwoong helps Jiae prepare dinner. The rest of the family closes up the clinic. Jinsoo and Jihun go near the back of the house to check up on the goat.

They gather for dinner when Jiwoong tells them that dinner is ready. It's the lightest of meals but they talk together for an hour or so. They play a small game to pick who will do the dishes among the siblings. Jinsoo was the one to pick the stick of a different length but Jiwoong volunteered for him. He explains that he'll stop volunteering once Jinsoo reaches at least 10 years of age.

The whole family gets ready for bed and Jiae dreams of a more exciting existence, ones like the stories she's heard in the town, until she falls asleep.

from
THE PERFECT GRANDCHILD

PERSONALITY TRAITS: graceful, obedient, selfless, restrained, timid.

At first glance, it would not be obvious that she was not born a noble because despite being a quiet girl, she has an elegant way about her. She hangs on to her grandparents' every word, as she thinks it is the proper thing to do. However, what is expected of women during this age was only childbirth. Jiae detests the idea but she doesn't have the audacity to voice that opinion out loud.

She is just glad that even if her grandmother doesn't allow her outside, or have her do anything remotely dangerous, her grandmother allows her to do minor work inside the house and spend time doing things she likes like embroidery, practicing tea ceremonies, doing flower arrangements and cooking.

Jiae also likes helping out her brothers whenever she can; if they want a snack or if they got hurt from playing and need their bruises cleaned up. Of course, she wants to run around like her brothers and play with them but they are often outside and she isn't allowed to go out. She sometimes goes out to go to her grandmother's pub wearing a jang-ot but her grandmother is not usually happy when she does.

Jiae, no matter how she tries to think optimistically, is tired of living such a mundane life, hiding inside the house and just waiting, growing older and older just to do something inevitable. After her grandmother's passing, she decided that she would do whatever she wanted from that day forth. Becoming true to herself little by little, she has become who she is today.

A YOUNG PIRATE WHO CAN CHARM ALMOST EVERY WOMAN

PERSONALITY TRAITS: a free spirit, hyperactive, attention seeker, immature, crass, flirty, jokes a lot, talks too much, overconfident, has a flair for the theatrics, fiesty, all talk no bark, big gay, panics a lot.

PERSONALITY:

What happens when Jiae decides she's had enough?

Quite possibly, the biggest source of headache for the captain. Gutsy, flirty, and immature. He is the definition of a confident flirt that no one probably wants to associate with unless you're 15 year old girl and is prone to fantisizing about finding her bad boy prince charming. If anyone on the ship hears a greasy-sounding "Hey baby~" they are advised to run far far away from the direction of the offending sound and avoid contact with the source as much as possible.

"Get him off the ship."

After more than a few attempts in trying to get Hansung off the ship, they have probably gotten tired and just unanimously decided to offer him or use him as a meat shield to the first sea monster they will encounter. Being a new guy on the ship, many people should still be clueless about him but being the loudest person on the ship, he's already made friends and enemies of everyone on the ship. It's no exaggeration: you either love him or hate him.

People's first impressions of him are actually spot on. He's overconfident flirty, and never seems to take anything seriously. He has this carefree attititude that makes it easier for him to put his implusive decisions into actions. Most of her actions, to Jiae, it just feels right. To be fiesty rather than to be silent and shy away. She often does what she feels is more right that she couldn't do at home. This also throws any and all tactfulness outside the window to the extent that she might even act very rude in front of the King.

The straighforward type, Hansung is not one to shrink away when someone asks for his honest opinion. It's gonna be brutal. Not what you'll have in mind when someone voices out their honest opinions, Hansung has the flair for the exciting and dramatic so it's gonna be more ...extra. Once, the captain asked everyone if they should make a stop in Piranha Isles and he was the only one who told the captain that they shouldn't because his ex-girlfriend was there and that he would probably be depressed for days. This often gets him into trouble but he always thinks that it's worth it seeing their reactions.

Hansung is your usual cabin boy: he does all his chores like scrubbing the deck and rigging the sails. Actually, he does them quite well considering that people's impression of him is sleazy and lazy. He does everything systematically and the more he gets used to it, the more efficient he gets. Again, not what you'd expect of him but this is only one of the few redeeming qualities he has. The others are waiting to be taken out of him forcibly in the face of danger. ...Or perhaps not?

He also never does anything half-heartedly and is passionate about everything albeit being too dramatic sometimes. Cooking the dish? It's a five-star cuisine but is too spicy to eat. Tying the ropes on the mast? Expect it to be done in an elaborate pattern. Acting as bait? He just might become the actual bait. Sending a message to the captain via the cabin boy? Expect it to be heavily laced with add-ons that you really don't want the captain to know. Honestly, in everything he does you just know if he actually did something. It might as well has his name written all over it. For Jiae, that's just her style and she likes doing things for the sake of doing it. Not doing anything for twenty years has left her thirsty for adventure.

To get inside Jiae's real feelings, we must look at her relations. Most of her relations lie in banter and interactions with that person. More often than not, she makes genuine connections with people. She tells them what she feels about in an honest way but they might take it the wrong way. And she's fine with that. Things like that happen. Not everyone's gonna like her, and she would rather they tell her upfront that they don't like her than pretend to like her. It makes her look like a fool when she figures out that they actually hate her.

Hansung not the type of person to back down but during bad days, he might get a bit melodramatic and silently brood. If someone tries to shake him out of it she'll probably flood them with how he actually feels, why he feels bad. This is quite new to Jiae because in her family, it's kind of taboo to just shell out how you feel. Jiwoong might be the only family member Jiae has that she doesn't feel the need to put up walls to.

As someone disguising herself as a guy, she has never felt like she was pretending to be someone else at all. It actually feels more natural for her to flirt with women, as well, most probably because the only woman in the house besides her was her granny. Pretty girls near her age are very new to her, it feels similar to seeing mermaids. Guys she meets, on the other hand, either disgust her or remind her of a relative at home.

So if she sees a pretty girl, expect her to say something flirty and sweet like "Hey, I haven't see you before. Have you eaten? Let's go eat lunch together." to something remotely disgusting like "Do you know about *insert their name* island? 'Cause I cant wait to get some of that booty." Hansung often likes flustering girls with surprising quips but if someone were to reply back just as audaciously, he would probably try to get away because of sheer surprise and panic. Running away, he might say "No, my body's not ready!!!" which you would not expect from him because just 5 seconds ago he's boasting about his "banana ride".

Young teenage girls might fall for his tricks but older women in their late twenties know better. (Or do they?) Most of the time his consistent shelling out of compliments and persistent nature towards the ladies make him weirdly exceptionally attractive to most of the women on the ship. Hansung, or Jiae, just feels good giving out compliments and it kind of makes her excited seeing them blush so she ups the excitement factor by being extra flirty. She is also mainly excited to talk to people because at home she only has Jiwoong who talks to her this much. Rather than pure flirting, she is also genuinely interested in her companion's replies and their interests. Anyway, it is still flirting.

Once in a while, Hansung gets really hyper in an annoying way. He always says or do things that make people want to pull out all their hair. For example, he might ask the one in-charge if they're near their destination yet. "Are we there yet?" And then proceed to ask it again in five-second intervals for maybe half a hundred more times, I kid you not. He doesn't do it often, but it's so annoying that you just remember him for it. Is it for lack of attention? Boredom? Also why would he try to cook by using gunpowder to make fire? Half stems from immaturity, the urge to have fun, but it also stems from Jiae's nature. Her decisions have put her in trouble countless times but she's never learned to be more careful. Because with every mistake and backfire of every decision she feels more in control of her life.

BACKGROUND:

As Jiae was told, her grandmother was born in Jeon Reef, an island north of Jiān-Hwan and her grandfather was a merchant who sold homemade cure for ailments. Her father was an apprentice of her grandfather and became part of the family with Jiyeon, the couple's only daughter. It was an expected occurance when he asked for Jiyeon's hand in marriage. They had a very happy marriage but during her last childbirth, Jiyeon caught complications after giving birth to a pair of twins. Jiyeon died and Jiae's father became a workaholic, as an attempt to numb the pain of losing his wife. Jiae's grandmother had always blamed him and he later died due to extreme stress. It had always been her, her grandparents, and three of her siblings. She doesn't actually remember much of her parents.

Her grandfather owns a shop that sells 'injectables' that can cure ailments after several sessions of injecting it. Her grandfather's business was not doing well because the people in Jiān-Hwan are skeptical about his fairly modern way of curing people.  So after her father's death, her grandmother reopened a small pub where she sold ale for a high price. The ale is delivered by a couple of dwarves from Byggðakdalur. The dwarves that delivered ale were quite friendly with her and her siblings. They're not as scary as most dwarves that end up in the pub, and slowly, they became an extension of the family, and to Jiae with only three siblings it felt less lonely.

After a few years, Jiseok came.

"Hey granny you're look pretty. Can I have some ale?"

A boy of maybe 7 years was asking for an alcoholic beverage after giving an off-handed compliment. It was unusual (and no the granny didn't give him beer) but he kept coming back to the shop to ask for the same thing. It seemed like he didn't have any place to stay because Jiae had been on seeing him sleep in the back of the pub or under trees. Persistent he was, and the granny decided to let him stay in their house and eat with them. He never asked for any ale after that. That time, Jisung was attending school. He wasn't too happy about it when he got home from the boarding school. To him, it felt that he was being replaced.

Then, after a year of being gone, he found out that the family got two more mouths to feed. They were left in the shop on separate instances. His family had no choice then as they were still babies, Jiae tried to reason with Jisung.

"Besides, if someone comes to the shop to get them, we'll give them back."

The granny told him that the decision was final and that he wasn't the one feeding them, anyway. Jisung shut up.

The family had grown bigger than Jiae imagined especially since the babies were small kids now. It was then that they ran into a big problem. Jinsoo was five years old when their grandmother passed away. She was quite old and it seemed that her body organs just couldn't function anymore, but the strange thing is, she was quite strong just months ago. With only one person working in the family (Jisung had just gotten his first job), they were soon forced to sell the pub to eat. They learned to save money otherwise her grandmother's savings and the money they got from selling the pub will run out quickly. It was then that the hatred Jisung had for his adopted brothers grew.

Jiae wished for better living conditions for her brothers but she couldn't do much. She was used to being pampered. After a couple of months, she found her break. Her grandmother told her of a letter inside the drawer on her death bed, and revealed to Jiae that she'd only been hard on her because she was the only girl they have left. And that she was scared of losing her after Jiyeon died. They reconciled as she passed away and Jiae had found a letter as she was told, but being illiterate, she waited until her dwarven uncles came to Jiān-Hwan to deliver ale. They were confused because they found out that the pub was already owned by another person. Jiae met with them to show the letter. One of her uncles read it aloud. The other fell serious all of a sudden.

"Where is your grandmother?"

"She passed away a few weeks ago."

"..."

"We need to move."

"Jiae, stay with your grandfather. If you need to, go far far away from this place with your family."

Becoming more stubborn, she told her siblings what the dwarves told her about them being in danger and staying with their grandfather. That night, she was determined. She followed her dwarven uncles and tried to sneak into their ship by hiding in a barrel. The dwarves, who routinely checked for stowaways found her and had her sent back to the town. But her little shenanigan was not for naught. As she overheard from a conversation of her uncles everything about who she needed to find. All she needed to know now was how.

RELATIONSHIPS:

✩ Grandma - Jeon Baek (deceased) / Owner of Pub / 6 out of 10

During Jiae's childhood, her grandmother had always been a strict person but Jiae felt her granny's leniency to her brothers. Even if she makes her siblings work harder, in return she had always given them more freedom; letting them play outside, which was what jiae wanted the most. Being able to do nothing but small tasks and some hobbies, her grandma wasn't Jiae's favorite person.

Their relationship had actually gotten better just before her grandmapassed away.
Her grandma has been disheartened by her daughter's death and it left a big hole in her heart. She had given up her exciting life to take care of her child, Jiae's mother. To Jiae's grandma, her daughter was more priceless than any treasure. She tried everything to move on but the longing she felt for her daughter had made her more protective of her granddaughter and even adopt more grandchildren.

She also regrets being so angry at her son-in-law and realized that he was still family to her. She made a lot of wrong decisions in her life but she just wanted the best every time.
Their conversation led Jiae to believe that her grandmother could have actually been a much nicer person that she thought. But then again, it wouldn't have hurt if her granny wasn't so strict.

✩ Grandpa - Shin Han (70) / Man of Medicine / Forgetful, Stubborn, Fun / 8 out of 10

Despite his old-people qualities, he is very fun and talkative. Jiae used to listen to him before when he told stories. After she went to the town, she thinks his stories weren't as exciting. However, she does like listening to him because she sees that he gets happy when people listen to his stories. Her grandpa is very knowledgable about medicine but Jiae thinks that his modern way of curing people is a bit weird and that she's not even sure if it works. She does tell him about her skepticism but he just laughs it off. She's actually never seen him remotely sad. During her grandmother's death was the first time she's seen him so solemn-looking.

Shin Han was a level-headed man, the eye of the storm. And the storm itself was none other than Jeon Baek. He was so entranced with the advancements he's made in his work but his love for her was greater. There were two times when she broke his heart. The first was when she blamed his apprentice, the only other person who understood his the intricacies of his work in medicine, and the second, when she left him alone in this world. To Han, Jiae is one of the people that reminds him of his dead son-in-law. She was quiet but had a determined expression that made him remember his son-in-law's face when he told him of his dream to someday build a town hospital.

✩ Adoptive Uncles - Thalin & Nwalin (83 & 91) / Trader of Ale / Funny, Kid-Friendly, Surprisingly Reliable / 9 & 6.5 out of 10 / fc: dean o'gorman & aidan turner

They are both uncle figures for Jiae. They're the funny uncles who crack corny jokes and sometimes likes to procure their entertainment by making fun of their nieces and nephews often through pranks.

Thalin is an amiable dwarf that no matter how timid, can be brave if need be. He can be quite the hero once he fights for his friends and beliefs. On the contrary, h
e's the type to accidentablly break bottles because he's quite clumsy. He's like a softboi everyone wants to protect. Actually, no. He's way too clumsy for it to even be considered cute. But Jiae is glad that he's honorable enough to pay for the things he breaks.

Actually if Jiae ever had anyone she called a best friend, it would have been Thalin because they talk the most during their visits. He stays in the back of the shop to tally the barrels and do some ~inventory~ while Jiae hovers in the background and badgers him. They are close enought but when there is a chance that Jiae could be in danger, he protects her the same way her granny would, which is to put her away from the source of the danger.

He's very kind to everyone and Jiae thinks that he's the best uncle ever. She often hangs out with him and has learned a secret of his ("It was actually pretty obvious," says Jiae.) It seems that he has a huge crush on their granny. Initially, Jiae was shocked because their granny is really old. Jiae asked him why. He said that dwarves live very long and that they've actually known each other for a looooong time. Nwalin actually knows about this and thinks that his one-sided crush with Jeon Baek is pitiable.

Nwalin is the other uncle. A woman's man, a ladies' man. Greasy and well, Jiae finds him amusing when he hits on girls because he always ends up making a fool of himself. But sometimes the girls flirt back and she has to hide her gagging. She fears if Jinseok will be like that in the future. But of course, they are vastly different. Nwalin looks and sounds more desperate, while Jinseok is a natural but could not be bothered to care. He does act a bit more kind or at least try to be with Jiae and her siblings because he's really not that good with kids.

He often ends up telling stories about his hometown and going on adventures. It's quite obvious that he's clearly boasting and making it seem like he did heroic things but Jiae could see through it. I mean, she did believe Nwalin when she was little but when she turned nineteen she realized that he's been making himself look good in these stories adding embellishments as well. It was enjoyable either way. Anyway, he's a familiar face and someone that Jaie knows she could trust as they have the same knowing[???] eyes as Thalin during a crisis. The current Jiae now might have been heavily influenced by Nwalin.

✩ Older Sibling - Shin Jisung (24) / Government Worker / Thoughtful, Temperamental, Ambitious /  8 out of 10 / fc: min suga

A caring older brother to Jiae. He works hard to make ends meet but he is not that happy that his income is not enough because of the children his grandmother adopted. He would go so far as to say that he despises the three children. But the fact that he still works extra hours to be able to support to all of them is enough proof that he still cares.
He works in the Ministry of Defence. Due to his hard work, he has been promoted but because he fears that he might not stay in his position he does not tell any of it to his family back home. Despite his reservations, his jimmies get easily rustled and people are properly warned to apologize if they have remotely offended him, his family, or his work. He's quite sensitive but never gets angry without a good and logical reason.

Jiae looks up to him ever since she was young. She even wanted to marry someone who was as kind and as persevering as her brother. Reflecting back to it now, she just wanted to be like him. To be a kind and hard-working older sibling to his younger siblings. Selfish as it might be, she thought it would be better to eliminate the Pirate Captain instead of hiding far away and working to support her family. She's not her brother, after all. She just hopes she'll be forgiven for her actions.

✩ Younger Sibling - Shin Jiwoo (19) / Freeloader / an actual Sloth, Practical, Soft-hearted with Animals / 8 out of 10 / fc: na jaemin

Jiwoo is super lazy and can only be bothered when he feels like it. He's a shining example of what your parents tell you not to be. He has no plans to study or work at all, but he does have a vision... A vision to marry a rich princess from a faraway land. Not because he loves her, but because of the lavish lifestyle and comfort it would bring him. Despite this, he does have his good sides. Besides being a great haggler, he also has a fondness for animals. He takes good care of their family's pet goat and feeds most of the stray cats in the neighborhood with their leftovers (if there's any; lately he's been catching Jiae eating the leftovers in the middle of the night).

He thinks Jiae's too hard-working.
Jiae thinks she could use some help with the chores and often reprimands him for not helping out. He does follow her instructions when she asks him to buy meat and vegetables from the merchants in the town, but oftentimes he gets distracted by a cat along the way or gets tired and takes a nap on a tree branch. He ends up not buying anything and Jiae thinks to herself that she should get someone else to go.

✩ Younger Sibling - Shin Jiwoong (19) / Student / Selfless, Driven, Pushover / 9.5 out of 10 / fc: na jaemin

The reliable brother. He is the opposite of his twin and helps with chores which Jiae is grateful for. He doesn't like doing the chores either but he doesn't like seeing Jiae do it all by herself. He dreams of becoming a librarian and therefore studies in his free time. He is literate and teaches Jihun how to both read and write. He's offered his services to Jiae but she brushes it off as useless. Stemming from the fact that all she hears him read aloud are trashy romance novels. She doesn't feel like would use it in the future anyway.

Jiae is quite straightforward with Jiwoong and they freely insult each other without worrying if the other is going to get offended. Jiwoong's weakness lies in the fact that he cannot turn down doing things he doesn't like. The type who would drink green tea despite him disliking its bitter taste just not to offend his grandfather. This similarity is shared by him and Jiae. He would probably be the most surprised at Jiae's drastic change after she left home, being her closest confidant.

✩ Younger Sibling - Shin Jiseok (15) / Casanova and Dishwasher / 7 out of 10 / fc: nam dohyon

Popular with the ladies in the town. They always approach him to pinch his cheeks. Jiseok doesn't mind them. He was actually born and grew up in the red light district before he ended up in Granny's pub. This is where he probably got his habit of giving compliments unabashedly to get something in return. Jiae appreciates that he has the initiative to wash the dishes during lunchtime. Jiseok enjoys washing the dishes because he gets to play with water; it's refreshing. He dislikes the heat and would often go in the fields where it's windy. He's not a person who shows a lot of emotion but Jiae knows that he's a caring and thoughtful kid.

✩ Younger Sibling - Shin Jihun (9) / Smartass / 7 out of 10 / fc: moon woojin

This kids is quite smart for his age and is very polite. He acts like an old person and even speaks like one. His speech pattern is more formal than most of the family. Sometimes, Jiae gets weirded out but she thinks its because Jihun hangs out a lot with their grandfather. If she thought more about this, she might realize that not even their grandfather talks this way. He must be trying to emulate the palace guards or maybe Jiwoong reading aloud his steamy novels written from a century ago. Jihun does comprehend well when someone asks him of something and if someone seems down, he notices and asks about it. Jiae thinks that he's quite observant and understanding for his age.

✩ Younger Sibling - Shin Jinsoo (5) / No Job / 7 out of 10 / fc: song minguk

Very cute. He's the type of kid that would command the attention of the whole room like an eight-month old baby would. He still can't speak well and trips a lot but everyone loves him. The delay in his development compared to Jihun is quite alarming but his family is not pressuring him to learn. Jinsoo likes to have fun but gets a bit impatient most of the time sometimes. He tends to act up and throw a tantrum when dinner is late and his stomach hurts. He thinks Jiae makes the best food and likes her around. He also thinks the goat is funny when it goes baa. He clings to his brother Jihun like theres no tomorrow.

✩ There is a goat the family keeps as a pet but I don't think it would be relevant to the story.

✩ The Crew - Jiae is often bullied in a friendly way, often being the of jokes but they're family to her and she hopes she's family to them as well.

THE EMPRESS OF THE SEAS PT.1

There was a girl who lived in the mountains. Her mother died when she was still young so her father was the one to teach her all she knew: about milking goats, making cheese and selling them to be traded for clothing and food. She also learned how to use the sword as a form of self-defense. She wasn't exemplary but she practiced a lot, slicing at tree barks and bamboos. Her father decided that trading their cheese products in the capital would be more profitable. They regularly came to the mainland by boat.

Her father got sick and she was tasked to deliver the products by herself. There were guards in the capital's port who checked the cargos and ruined the cheese she brought by accident. She got mad and due to initiating a fight with the officials, she was sent off to prison. She spent some time in the prison but a corrupted official had sold her off to some slave traders.

A DEATH AND A SECRET

There was once a pickpocket. His brother was a devout Sparrow and they lived very different lives. Initially, he was supported by his brother but he felt undeserving of this. The boy stole food instead of taking what his brother was offering him. The boy who stole food, stole money and jewelry during an opportune moment. It escalated to the point that he was just doing it for the thrill of it.

It got much worse when he met a girl. She was the most beautiful girl he's laid his eyes on. He wanted to impress her and knew just what to give her. The most beautiful necklace he saw in the Cathedral was perfect for the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. But alas, when he gave it to her she looked so disgusted at him and the necklace that he was holding that she looked ugly to him for that moment. He was found out and was sentenced to death. His brother grieved for his death.

THE EMPRESS OF THE SEAS PT.2

A pirate captain bought four girls from a ion ring in the Piranha Isles. They were brought aboard the ship. While most of the crew were afraid of the superstition about women on board, they were more afraid of the captain. The captain actually fed them quite well with decent food but of course, they were still es. One in particular used to talk to the captain about his journey on the waters. All of the girls were allowed to talk to the other pirates, and one of them were much lively and interested in the pirate's life but the pirates didn't take her seriously. Most actually avoided her and laughed at her.

During an attack by another pirate ship, the captain and three es were having an intimate and k;nky moment. There were tree hurried knocks on the door but soon after silence came. Then the door was broken open and it revealed a pirate they didn't recognize. Acting quickly, the girl managed to fend him off by herself, (she /needed/ to because the Captain was in ropes and couldn't move). The other girls ran away but she faught valiantly. She managed to have the the pirate stuck in a wood splinter and kicked him in the groin. She got his sword to try and cut off his head. The Captain was surprised and uttered a grateful compliment as she freed him from the k;nky ropes.

THE HOLY BOOK AND THE LOST RELIC

Records were written by many of Catherine's followers and follows the events of Catherine's journey to spread her teachings about the Almighty including her own accounts. It was compiled into a book called The Segena. The first copy of the book was handed down to one of the actual Knights of Paladin along with a pendant. Soon after Catherine's death, they replaced the small sparrow pendant inside the glass with her cremated remains. The pendant was long lost but during the recent years it was found and auctioned off to a rich man from Prieçia. The book, however, was lost and another version appeared seemingly stripped off some parts.

A man who sold copies of The Segena came across a curious copy of it in some ruins during his trip to Tamaza. It was entirely different from those he had sold; it had more records and Catherine herself even had an account in there. He kept it to himself, as he doesn't believe it to be real. But after he died, being a prominent figure of Catharrowism and a Priest, his belongings were sold off and then the money given to those in need. However, his important belongings were used in a Cathedral in Prieçia and displayed them as artifacts including the book. This Cathedral was destroyed and the surviving artifacts was transferred to another Cathedral in Spenia. This Cathedral in Spenia stood longer than any Cathedral. And even though there is a more flashy and modern Cathedral built near it, most of the followers worship and even send their kids here to be trained as Priests.

THE EMPRESS OF THE SEAS PT.3

After the Captain died during another attack, the e was 'freed' by the attackers. She looked for another ship to go back home to her father (if he was still alive) and ended up in a voyage where she became a well-known pirate. She even ended up hijacking a famous captain's ship who was looking for a certain fountain that has . They didn't found the fountain but they did find mounds of treasure. They split it in half supposedly but the captain was selfish and took all of it.

He ordered the girl and the ones who sided with her (the midical practitioner and three others) to be tied up. It was supposed to be the end but she— the medallion she pocketed—one of the people who was tied up with them—saw the medallion she pocketed. He was familiar with it and used it to summon a curse that cursed the pirates in exchange for a life—his life. After the events, she took the medallion with her but did not use it again. She settled down with a medical practitioner that she met during the journey, and the other two she did honest business with.

TEODORO

t h e   s u r g e o n
zayn malik
t h e   g u n n e r

PERSONALITY:

insp : bam from tower of god

Due to an incident from his childhood, Teodoro has tried to become a better person. The hot-headed Teo has become no more and a patient and calm demeanor presents itself in front of the ship's crew. Teo has a boyish face, quite young, but he commands respect from everyone in the room despite his youthfulness.

Teo might not be one of the strongest people on the ship but in a fight of beliefs he will definitely be one of the strongest. Teodoro is a religious person. He is a person who does good to others because of a belief that by treating others right, they will see the good in the world. That they will feel that a god exists. A god who is kind and forgiving. He does not feel the need to force his beliefs on people but his own faith in his god is unwavering.

His relationship with others is often strong because he trusts someone even if they have just met. They may only be acquaintances, but to him they are already friends. And he is loyal to his friends. He will defend them to the ends of the earth, even offering his life if he has to. As perfect as he wants to be, Teo is only human and he is quite gullible because of his trusting nature.

Sometimes, if a person does Teo dirty, angry thoughts cross his mind. However, he does not act upon it fearing that he might hurt others. Partly, he is like this because he blames himself for what happened in his past. He tries to mellow down his personality so that it feels like he is more deserving of the second chance he was given.

Teo opts to keep his achievements to himself but he will gladly accept a compliment, and will probably return one smoothly right after. He comes off to others as suave but he is actually just being honest about his appreciation for others and has no intention to flirt.

Despite his good sides, until now, he stil has a bad habit of taking things without meaning to. So besides a bunch of things he didn't mean to take with him, there are some possessions on the ship he cannot live without. One is a book that was given to him by his brother. The second is one particular journal out of a few he has made over the years he has worked as a surgeon. There is also his bag containing papers and some painting tools.

He likes to draw and his journals are often filled with illustrations about skeletons and other organs. He often reads the book his brother gave him on his free time, but on some days, when the color of the sky intrigues him or a memorable scene unfolds before him, he will paint.

Teo is more observant than most. He notices the small details. When he paints, all the objects are very detailed. He doesn't miss the slightest annoyance on a pirate's face or the subtle sadness in a person\s eyes. The same goes for when he is conversing with someone. The little things. No matter how subtle it is, he responds to these in the most empathic and non-intrusive way. Teo thinks twice before speaking out his thoughts, careful not to hurt anyone. This often makes him omit some details, making his words sugar-coated.

He is very restrained which is good if the pirate you're operating on is so annoying that you have to stop every inch of your body from stabbing his eyes with the scalpel you're holding. It is, however, not good being timid when there are enemy pirates attacking your ship and you're in charge of defending yourself. Being a coward and being timid are two different words but the line separating the two is almost non-existent for Teo.

BACKGROUND:

There are many orphans in Spenia. Most of them are offsprings of foreigners and the lower class, and Teodoro is one of them. He grew up with no parents and had but one sibling with him. They were twins but looked very uncannily alike. They lived In the crowded and dirty neighborhood, homeless and doing everything they could to survive. They begged for food but soon enough, they had resorted to stealing. That is, until a priest from a nearby Cathedral offered them food and shelter.

Teodoro in his teens had the fastest hands and his work as a pickpocket was probably the best Spenia's ever seen. Teodoro used they money he stole to buy things he couldn't have. He had a twin then, Javier, who was studying with hopes of becoming a Knight of Paladin. His twin, gave him bread and clothing from the Cathedral but it still wasn't enough for Teo, he wanted to eat tasty food. Javier didn't know of Teo's misdeeds outside as he was often inside the Cathedral.

Then, an incident occured. A necklace at the altar went missing. It was not just any common necklace.  When it had just been built, the Cathedral was given the necklace containing a relic of Catherine's which was encased in glass and decorated with golden ornaments. It was supposed to be a very important thing, and so everyone went in a panic. All possible places inside the Cathedral and convent was searched. Nothing was found.

After a few days, the twin learned that the necklace containing the relic was found with Teodoro. It seems that he tried to give it to a girl in the neighborhood as a sweet gift, but the girl who a davout Sparrow told the officials. Theodore's twin couldn't believe it, but he knew his brother was capable of such stupidity. He asked for permission to visit his brother who was detained and told the authorities that he just wanted to talk to his brother. He requested for a small private room in advance. The twin, known for his well-behavedness, was granted a short amount of time inside the room with his brother. There were guards right outside the door so escape would be futile.

Once inside, the twin urged his brother Teodoro to take his clothes off. The twin was already on his undergarments by then. Slow as he might be, Teo knew what his twin wanted to accomplish. He didn't want to do it. But they didn't have the liesure to dilly dally. Javier managed to persuade him and they exchanged clothing. The twin took out a pouch and a wet cloth. He ordered Theodore to clean up while he put some dirt on himself.

After a couple of minutes, the guard opened the door and took the one who presented himself as Teodoro to prison, leaving his 'twin' with the Segena behind. Theodore, who was now dressed in clean white clothes and holding a book was filled with guilt. He knew that if he didn't do anything his brother will rot in prison and most probably die due to disease, or get sentenced to death. In the end, his brother was sentenced to death as "Teodoro". And "Javier" who was actually Teo stayed in the convent in silence. Most people thought he became mute due to grief from his brother's death.

Teo swore that he wouldn't do anything stupid like stealing or flexing towards women in their neighborhood. So he diligently did convent duties, chores, and studied the Holy Segena in order to continue his brother's dream to become a priest.

It was 10 years after his brother's death but instead of being a priest he was in the navy. Halfway through his stay in the Cathedral, he heard that the navy was recruiting members. Despite his determination to pursue his brother's dream to repent, he really couldn't take the mundane life in the Cathedral. He signed up but afterwards realized that he did not think this through.

It has only been a few months but everyone could see that he wasn't agressive enough and was less agile and adept than the others. Due to this, his supervisor advised him to either find something else to do or just quit. Teo was disheartened. He really didn't want to go back to his life in the Cathedral.

One of his friends who was a medic student had just quit and he remembered about some openings for the class. He contacted his friend who luckily lived nearby. They ended up talking for a long time and after he bid goodbye he went back to his room to inspect the new books and equipment he got from his friend and signed up as soon as possible to become a medic.

This was the start of his career as a navy doctor. Surgery was often the solution to most battle wounds so it was inevitably the path he would have taken. Although, as the days passed he became more and more sick of seeing wounds on strangers he did not know. However, they pay was good and he wasn't going anything wrong, hurting people or stealing, so he continued his job.

During one of the navy's battles, an opposing pirate ship had overpowered their ship. The pirate ship's captain, seeing that he wasn't actively fighting, asked what his position was. After he answered that he was a surgeon he was almost kidnapped aboard the pirate ship. There, the Captained asked him to work for him. Of course, Teo didn't want to. They weren't exactly good people and working for them meant helping the pirates steal and maybe kill.

After some days, he was in good terms with the pirate crew but he always tells them that if he gets the chance he will escape. After his first paycheck, he suddenly forgot about the navy. Just kidding, but he did think twice about leaving the crew. As time passed, he learnt that they had a bigger mission and that they were more than just a thieving pirate crew (and the fact that they actually took baths). During his stay on the ship, he has devoted his time to studying and while he often joined the other pirates looting, he mostly looked for medical books.

LOVE STORY:

As easy to fall in love with girls on the ship, it was just as easy for Jiae to take one look (and another... and a third one, just to be sure) and fall into this guy's darned hazel eyes.

As one of the most important people on the ship (you will need his help sooner or late so it's better to get on his good side), Teodoro was one of the first people Jiae was introduced to on the ship. He looked young and a bit boyish so Jiae assumed that he was another cabin boy like him. He turned out to be a really important person and was actually older than her by half a decade.

Their first impression of each other wasn't that good. Jiae injured herself with gunpowder and Teo hadn't had the time to sleep since he had to operate on a pretty bad bullet wound on someone's ribcage for almost a day then this newly recruit cabin boy shows up and injures his foot. Of course, they could have just thrown him overboard but despite Teo's injury he religiously scrubbed the decks so the crew still decided to keep him.

They regularly meet due to Hansung's random injuries and Teo always tells him to be more careful. It's not like Teo doesn't like seeing him but he's tired of wasting valuable resources on light injuries so it's not uncommon for him to ask Hansung, "Is your injury serious or do you just want me to kiss your boo boo?" And Hansung replies without losing a beat, "Do you want me to kiss your boo boo?"

They weren't exactly on good terms in the beginning but their wonky relationship has become somewhat bearable because of their naturally friendly demeanor. However farfetched It may seem, opposites do attract. This careful and timid man and the fearless and energetic idiot always Jiae has never paid special attention to Teo except for his beautiful eyes but it is a bit different for Teo.

Teo treats everyone nicely but Hansung has this kind of personality that urges him to want to protect this person maybe as an older brother figure perhaps? That has to be it because he has never had romantic feelings before, not that he can remember any. (He has repressed all his memories of flexing on the village señoritas. u_u)

But at the moment, if you ask Hansung about Teo he'll most likely reply with: "It would be gross even if he was a girl. Unless... you know, he has big tiddies."

STATUS: They're acquaintances-ish at the moment but they are about to become broskis.

ENDING: It's up to you if you want a bromance that will put all bromance leads (Nick Frost and Simon Pegg / Jedediah and Octavius / those two blokes from Brokeback Mountain) to shame or if you want them to end up in a tragedy ala Rose and Jack or maybe just retain being friends. Honestly, I think their relationship is quite versatile and can branch off differently without being off character.

RETURN TO the STORY

LAST COMMENT: Anyway, Jiae and Teo might not be what you had in mind for the cabin boy and the surgeon bUT I hope they're at least entertaining??? Also I had fun writing the excerpts. I believe if there was a medallion, it would be different from the one in PoTC because the curse works differently but it's still up to you if you want to make it an important plot point. ALSO, I'm still not over the fact that Will Turner was played by Orlando Bloom. I've seen PoTC and LoTR but it has never occured to me until I started writing this app. Aaaaand I'm sure I've overlooked something because it's been so long since I started working on this so just point out the inconsistencies if there's any. Thankies!

SCENE REQUEST:

✩ Teo teaching Jiae how to read.

✩ Jiae's development from being annoying to someone that people genuinely like.

✩ Drama. Like when someone is in a critical condition or someone has to leave the crew by their choice. The feels you get from that is just uhmpff.

✩ Fun pirate shenanigans like pranks inside the ship.

✩ A critical point in where she needs to read something important. Like written directions to a treasure or a hostage or something.

✩ Lots of bad puns.

✩ Maybe a prank-gone-wrong. It doesn't have to be the crew members. "Did you just put a whoopie cushion on the king's throne? This is an assassination, dimwit!"

✩ High society and gate-crashing at a ball with someone swinging from the chandelier. I just love theatrics!

✩ An appearance of her 'uncles' as they try to take her back but seeing as she's set on it, they allow her to do what she wants. Maybe they become allies with the pirate crew?

✩ A confrontation between Jiae and her brother. A climatic scene when Jisung learns of the Pirate Crew and maybe the crew did something illegal (very likely?) and they meet. Her brother Jisung turns up to be a high-ranking soldier or government official in-charge of capturing or subduing them. First thing to come across Jiae's mind, "that's not what he told us his job was". Upon closer inspection he recognizes Jiae. Cue genuine panic from Jiae.
