GENEVIÈVE AUGUSTIN IS ALONG FOR THE JOURNEY } The Engaged Princess
“i want to see the world and not just through a window”
More then skin and bones...
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Curious, Observant, Enthusiastic, Friendly, Communicative (+) Unfocused, Overthinker, Emotional, Independant, Unpractical (-) [ENFP]
PERSONALITY:
The first thing you will notice in Geneviève is the badly disguised look full of curiosity that she always have in her eyes when she's faced with something different from her usual (what is pretty much everything, since in her own words, her life is "too boring and sheltered"). That's probably one of her most quintessential traits, since it was shown really early in her life, and of course that it always brought her problems in the strict court life. It was not acceptable for a Princess to catch bugs in the gardens or explore the edge of the royal woods in search of berries. Nor ask the Knights what all their equipament was for.
Because of being reprimanded almost everytime she showed her curiosity and expressed it out loud, Gen turned to be observant. Absorbing all the details around her, she learned how to read patterns, body language and to connect seemingly inconspicuous or irrelevant details into the bigger picture. It was her own way to answer her own questions.
Despite that, she never lost her enthusiasm, comming to appreciate even the smallest of new discoveries and always wanting to share it with whoever was willing to listen. Most of the time, it was her maid that listened to everything she had to say and share. She's always ready to face new things, even if that is only visiting the newly planted gardens of some noble.
With her enthusiasm and slightly blabbermouth, it is really easy for her to make friends. With shinning eyes and a smile on her lips, there really are few people that would refuse her approach, and so, she could make connections from the kitchen and stable servants, to the old retired nobles. Unfortunately, despite her friendlyness, she has very few true friends to whom she can open up, because most of the people wouldn't understand her sentiments.
Of course she is also very communicative. She can strikes small talk with anyone, in any situation, but her abilities don't stop at that. she actualy is really good in expressing herself, her points and ideas, so if given the chance to talk about something seriously, people would be surprise with how elloquent she can be.
Even if Geneviève has many people skills, she can also be an unfocused person if the matter are boring, repetitive and/or administrative affairs. If it's anything that cuts on her curious thinking, if it doesn't entertain her, then she has trouble focusing.
Aggravating her difficulty to focus on certain situations, there is the fact that she usually overthinks when she has too much time to herself. Because she's to observant, she tends to look for hidden meanings on most things thus making it easy for her to overthink and blow something out of proportion if she keeps mulling over it. The best is to keep her occupied and distracted, or else she will come with absurd conclusions.
Geneviève is someone who believes in expressing one's emotions. Deceive and lying don't make sense to her. But because her personality is too.. loud, too... much for a Princess (accordingly the strict people in her life that wanted her to be a shy and gentle flower and not the curious little bird she actually is), she had not the opportunity to live this through. She keeps a happy a front but recoils really quick into herself at the first mention of reprimand because of how much she was unfairly chastisized in her life. Thus making her someone that can't deal well with her own emotions. Specially under stress, she's prone to emotional bursts that more than not make the whole situation worse. Because of this someone can think she's immature or spoiled, but it's just because she never had the chance to properly deal with her strong emotions so far.
It also doesn't helps that Geneiève is independant to a fault. She doesn't like to ask help from others (doesn't help that she never learned how to, either) and most important, she hates to be micromanaged and restrained by rules. So you can imagine how feed up with castle life she is. She lives with it, but doesn't means she likes it. She wants to decide her own life, and that's one of the reasons that, despite her current situation at the Pirate ship, she would do everything all over again.
Lastly, Gen is someone unpractical simply by the fact that she was sheltered her whole life. She doesn't knows how things work in real life, so even tho her mind can go places, she can't do anything on her own, and this annoys her to no end in the Pirate ship, because it shows how useless she is, and she wants to be independant and do things herself, but she can't. She does want to work on this, so even that she wouldn't be the most skilled person or the better one to transform an idea into action, she wants to at least not need to depend completely on others.
BACKGROUND:
Born as Princess Geneviève Emi Yamato Augustin in a beautiful Spring day, she was seen as a precious flower since her birth. And as such, she needed being taken care of. Be groomed to be the prettiest royal flower, prim and propper.
So Geneviève grew up surrounded by all the luxury being part of the royal house could offer. She had the best toys, the prettiest dresses and the best cooks to make her food, but from an young age she showed signs that she was not just the pretty flower that everyone around her wanted to believe. She was more interested in watching and joining her brother's play, in activities that much probably would get her pretty and delicate dresses torn. And she would rather climb a tree or get fruits from the bush than to eat the delicate sweets that were presented to her.
To counter that, her mother put her up to many classes as possible, always acompanied by the watchful eyes of her older sisters. So for more that she would rather join her brother's sword plays and horse rides, she was chastisized by her sisters and put to seat on long classes about ettiquete, dance, music, basic diplomacy, embroidery and painting. The only good side was that when she found out the world of the Royal Library, her mother and sisters didn't disaprove it. So it quicly became Gen's refuge, where she could indulge in her own fantasies and dreams, and live through the books all the adventures that she couldn't in real life. After all, even if she liked being around other people, the books were much more interesting than the silly gossip circles of the court girls.
While she was still young, her friendly character was obvious by the way she would befriend all the possible castle workers she had interactions with, what also made it possible that she turned her haidmaiden into her best friend and confidant. Until a certain age, she would still try to join her brothers, hiding away from her sister's eyes or course, and the boys would amusedly indulge in her requests. Well, at least until they were caught.
But when they started to grow up and her older siblings had serious royal appointments to start to attend, and Geneviene was not considered a child anymore, thus making her freespirited behaviour not acceptable for someone her age, she started to turn more and more to her books. It was probably there, in the beginning of her teenager years, that she met Louise, the assistant of the Royal Librarian, that some years later would turn into the Royal Librarian herself. A person that would also turn into a great friend and who would accept the princess for who she really was, not the facade she put up to others.
To Geneviève's absolute shock, even if she shouldn't be, when she reached the elligeble age to 17, her parents finally announced who they had decided to be her future husband. She got put into an arranged marriage with Prince Héctor of Spenia, even if she would much rather get married to one of the princes of Preçia, or even a prince from Sabkhlah or Jiayuan. But politics decided a prince of Spenia was the best choice. Byggoakdalur was basically family. Jiayuan was too unstable with the clan wars. Sabkhlah was too isolated, and it's position as a colony of Byggoakdalur would make it seem as Myuseille was submitting again. Preçia was too vulnerable, so Spenia, as the second strongest, was the safest choice.
She dared to hope that this engagement would work, that this was finally the beginning of her adventure outside of her family's castle's walls. After all, the first letter that arrived to her from her now fianceé was wrote in a flamboyant style that promised things she had never seen. Even if she was a little puzzled of how the letter reached her so fast, she excitedly wrote back (and yes, latter she would find out that Prince Héctor knew of the engagement way before her).
But as the next year followed on, her hopes got crumpled little by little at each new letter she received from Prince Héctor. While at first he still tried to seem chivalrous, at each passing letter Geneviève could easily see in his writting what was probably his true personality. Full of himself and someone that always wanted things his way. The first person with whom she shared her troubles was her loyal handmaiden, that supported her quietly, because she had to real power to help. Then she talked with Louise, that suggested that she brought her doubts to someone of her family. And after a particular letter that made her upset, she shared with Bastien, her older brother, that tried to asure her everything would be alright.
Exactly one year later after the engagement was announced, now on her 18th birthday, an unexpected surprise came to Geneviève. A diplomatic party from Spenia reached the ports, and within the head ship, Prince Héctor himself. It was a surprise organized by her parents and older siblings (tho Sebastien declared he knew nothing, that he was also left out, when Gen confronted him before the dinner that night), thinking that it would be a great surprise to give a chance to the two bethroted to meet.
For sure Prince Héctor was handsome, but to Geneviève, his clear blue eyes were cold, his smile was more of a smirk and when he held her hand to kiss it, his hands were cold and his grip a little too forceful. But to the increase of her bad feelings, the prince managed to make a great impression on her family. Even Sebastien whispered to her "He can't be THAT bad".
It were days of party, now not only in honor of her birthday, but also welcoming the Spenian Prince. Many gifts were given to the royal family, but no one received more than Geneviève, and whoever saw the amount of silk Prince Héctor had given her, would think he was a dotting fiancee. It was during those days when the date for the wedding cerimony was finally decided and as a vote of good trust, and very possible wanting to impress his future in-law family, Prince Héctor confided that his father, King Zacarias, had basically promised the throne to him and was just waiting for the marriage to announce it officialy. Of course that Geneviève's parents were more than delighted, their youngest would be queen!
Who was not very happy with those news, but had to hide it, was Geneviève herself. She had always supported herself on her brother's belief that the younger princes and princesses had the most freedom, and since Prince Héctor was not the oldest of King Zacarias' sons, she had hoped this slight bigger freedom could last even in her marriage. But if he was to be King, and her Queen, she would be loaded with royal assignements, just like her mother was. And that was definitely not something she wished for. But in face of those news, the King and the Queen invited Prince Héctor and his entourage to stay for longer, and he accepted. That way, he took most things and men from the ships, leaving just the bare minimum and instaled himself in the guest wing of the castle. And this was the decisive point that defined the next events.
On the night after the Spenian entourage settled on the castle for a longer stay, Geneviève excused herself from the party earlier, saying that she was tired and needed to rest. In reality he was not in the mood to celebrate when the only thing she could feel were knots in her stomach. She really didn't want to stay at the party while everyone around her got louder and drunker at each passing hour.
So she went to her room followed by her handmaiden and got ready to sleep. Once she was on her nightgown, seated on her window seat with her loyal handmaiden behind her combing her hair to get rid of any knots, she saw flashes of light and heard a rumble comming from the port. It took her some moments to process what she was seeing, but when it downed on her, she got immediately up and told her handmaiden to go warn the people at the party, because they were under pirate attack.
As soon as the handmaiden left the room, Gen put on some shoes and hearing the curtains from her window shuffle, she immediately got alert, but not in time, because in seconds a blade was on her throath, being held by someone standing right behind her. The voice of a man threatened her, saying that she should come with him without making a fuzz if she wanted to live, and in a bolt of courage, Gen straightened her back and said in her best authoritative princess voice to the man to put away his blade because she was going with him but she demanded to be treated with dignity. This shocked the pirate to a point that he put away his blade and laughed, commending her for her courage. And the moment that he was helping her out of the window, her night gown flowing in the night wind, was when her handmaiden came back to see a glimpse of what was happening.
Right in that moment if someone asked her why she followed the pirate without making a scene she would say it was for self presertavtion, because she knew she couldn't be rescued in time, because the guards couldn't reach her before something might happen. But latter, she realised that it was more than that. Deep down she saw this as an opportunity. Despite loving her family as much as she can, and being okay with her life (she believed she could eventualy find a middle ground on being a princess by her way and her mother's way) she was not okay with being shipped away to be the doll queen of a man she didn't even liked. So she intinctively decided to risk everything on a chance to escape her current situation.
TRIVIA:
✩ She naturally has good reflexes.
✩ Is a quick learner.
✩ Her favorite season is Spring. Also because it's when it's her birthday, and her parents and sisters a tiny bit more lax on her birthday, indulging in her birthday requests as long as they are reasonable.
✩ Because of her upbringing, she has an eye and ear for arts, and can quickly tell apart fakes from originals in statues, paintings, ceramics, clothes and jewels.
✩ She acually doesn't know how to swim, but she wants to learn.
✩ Would totally have stars in her eyes when meeting the Captain's Daughter because REAL FEMALE PIRATE!
✩ One of her random hobbies, that prove her Jia-Min ancestry, is Ikebana.
✩ Because of her father, Gen says she believes in the Catharrow faith (as most of the royal family does), but their beliefs of supressing destructive emotions have been twisted to control her behaviour, so deep down she's much more attracted to the Seriph Jade belief of her mathernal grandparents, since they support being courageous.
RELATIONSHIPS:
THE ROYAL FAMILY:
✩ Father - Florian Beaumont Augustin (48) / King / Diplomatic & Cunning / 3 out 5
King Florian is excelent in politics, economy and basicaly all the main areas needed to rule a kingdom. But because he's so busy, he don't have that mush time for his children, specially to Gen, since she's the youngest and a girl. {fc: Paul Bettany]
✩ Mother - Noriko Yamato Augustin (45) / Queen / Strict & Just / 3 out 5
Queen Noriko can be described as a woman that follows with her duties. She's examplar in rulling as a Queen, but this turned her into the stric parent. She worries for proper manners and etiquete, and she's mostly the reason as to why her oldest daughters turned the way they are. But since Gen is the youngest and a girl, you can say that Noriko was a bit lax in her parenting, leaving the princess to be watched by servants most of the time, so that's why Geneviève's wild spirit was not totally supressed. [fc: Kou Shibasaki]
✩ Older sister - Joséphine Mio Yamato Augustin (27) / First Princess / Fierce & Comanding / 1 out 5
Geneviève is mildly afraid of her oldest sister, and that's actualy understable. People say that if Joséphine was born a boy, she would probably be a General by now. She's dominating and always wanting things her way, and Geneviève spent her childhood listening to her older sister's bark for every little thing she did wrong. The young Princess is glad that now Joséphine is married and too busy with her five year old son to care too much about her. [fc: Kristin Kreuk]
✩ Older twin brothers - Eugène Haruto & Alphonse Haruki Yamato Augustin (25) / Crown Prince & Royal Prince / Dignified & Aloof / 3 out 5
For most people, Eugène and Alphonse are almost impossible to tell apart, tho their family know how to differentiate the Haru Twins from one another. Eugène is the more somber of the two, always counscious of the burden that is being the next in line for the throne, always asking himself if he's good enough to be the next King. While Alphonse is more carefree and confident, and the one that always put some confidence inside his older twin's head. They work like a well-oiled clock, to the point that nowadays they are kind of distant from their other siblings since they already have each other. But when they were younger and more carefree, not heavily loaded with responsabilities, they had a nice relationship with Geneviève, indulging in her many questions and willing to break small rules if that made the then child princess smile. Gen remembers with foundness those memories, and till this day she always break into a smile when she hears "Gen" (by Eugène) or "Evie" (by Alphonse) as a way to call her and her attention. [fc: Sen Mitsuji]
✩ Older sister - Madeleine Rei Yamato Augustin (23) / Princess / Calm & Arrogant / 2 out 5
If the oldest sister is like fire, Madeleine is like ice. She never looses her cool and doesn't seem to be affected by anything. Geneviève gets along with her a little better, but just because Madeleine doesn't go out of her way to nitpick everything the youngest do. After all, as one of the diplomats of the Kingdom, she has more important things to do and she expects that at the age of 18, Geneviève already knows how to behave properly. In a way, her cold enraged glares across the dinner table are worse than Mio's fiery fury. [fc: Kiko Mizuhara]
✩ Older brother - Sébastien Kazuo Yamato Augustin (21) / Prince / Bright & Cheeky / 4 out 5
Sébastien, or just Bastien as Geneviève calls him, is the youngest prince and the one closest in age to her. As the youngest male, he affirms with certainty that he has the best life of not having much responsabilities and having very little chance of being used as a political pawn in an arranged marriage. He's the most free-spirited of Gen's siblings, and that's why she admires him so much. It helps that he had been her "partner in crime" since childhood, and he still tries to teach her some basics of swordfighting when they are sure they are alone in the deepest of the Royal Gardens. If there is anyone in the royal family that knows of her lowkey relutance to marry Prince Héctor, this person is Sébastien. [fc: Claude Morgan]
✩ Fiancee - Prince Héctor (21) / Prince / Conceited & Assertive / 1 out 5
Son of King Zacarias of Spenia, he has the same belligerent posture as his father. It's true that Geneviève barelly knows him, so he could have some redeeming quality, but from the few letters they exchanged since the engagement was decided, he seemed as very conceited and dominant person, always talking more about his achievements than showing interest in what his fiancee could have to say. He's one of the favorites to the throne, since his father favors him. [fc: Spencer MacPherson]
✩ Friend - Louise Bourbon (25) / Librarian / Kind & Outspoken / 5 out 5
Louise is the Royal Librarian, aka the keeper of Geneviève's personal heaven: the Royal Library. She's also the only other friend the princess has, besides her handmaiden, and Louise is always supporting Geneviève and sharing with her the most interesting books. She thinks that to be a good princess of a multiethicnical kingdom like Miyuseille, Gen needs to learn how the world is, so she supports the princess dreams and tries to help the most she can with the only way she can: the knowledge in the library. She's also somewhat a noblewoman and she has a crush on Prince Alphonse (yes, Gen is aware of that). [fc: Emma Watson]
✩ Best Friend - The Loyal Handmaiden (-) / Handmaiden / personality traits / 5 out 5
They are together all the time they can. To Geneviève, she's the closest person she has, the one she tell her deepest secrets and craziest dreams. The princess treats her handmaiden as somemeone way above just a servant. The Loyal Handmaiden is the closest confidant. Geneviève was immensely glad when she saw that her friend had followed her, even despite the circumstances.
✩ Acquaitance - Panthea Dimitrou (17) / Princess / Idealistic, Dedicated, Reserved / closeness
Because they are both princesses, they already knew about each other, even if they had never met face to face till they were both in this predicament of being aboard the pirate ship. Geneviève stuck close to Panthea, uncounsciously wanting to keep something familiar (besides her Best Maid Friend) close to her in this mad quest. The more she got close to Panthea the worse she felt about her future. After all, she was promised to the very family that destroyed her new friend's life. Her friendship to Panthea was one of the happenings that cemented her resolution to not wanting to marry Prince Héctor. She likes to trade memories and stories with the younger princess and also turned lowkey quite protective of her.
✩ Anoushka Joshi (24) / Heiress&Woman of Science / Judgemental, Strong-willed, Reliable / closeness
Geneviève will be totally impressed by the older woman's knowledge, and for sure she will come to her to ask everything and anything.
✩ Noh Aejeong (19) / Captain's Daughter / Charismatic, Mischievous, Arrogant / closeness
A REAL female pirate? You can bet all your money that Geneviève will have stars in her eyes everytime she sees Noha. You could even call it a bit of a girlcrush. She lowkey-highkey set Noha as her new definition of strong woman and someone she admires. If she could, Gen wants to be like Noha, because she is everything the princess always wanted to be.
✩ Kawamura Kazuma (21) / The First Mate / personality / closeness
Geneviève feels a bit intimidated around Kazuma, so she's a bit worried that Panthea is under his care, but if the other princess says he's an okay guy, then Gen will believe in it.
✩ Nichkhun (29) / The Sailmaster / Mature, Cocky, Stubborn / closeness
It would be lying if we say Geneviève wasn't charmed by Nichkhun's gentlemanly ways. He seemes like one of the few people on the ship that knows how to interact with a princess, but at the same time she always feel like she needs to be at her best behaviour near him.
✩ Kim Junkyu (18) / The Crewman / Introvert, Melancholic, Phlegmatic / closeness
Junkyu is just a nice guy, and since he and Gen are the same age, she felt comfortable around him. She probably was the first to say that they were friends, and Junkyu just couldn't refuse. Besides, his personality makes Gen remember of her twin brothers, so that's probably why she felt comfortable around him at first.
✩ Zyanya (23)/ Voodoo Witch
Although there is some social gap between them, with their worlds being so different, Geneviève is thrilled that someone else understands her need to ask and know stuff. For the first time in her life, she feels like her curiosity is understood and encouraged. In turn, she always tries to listen to Zyanya's questions. She knows the feeling of not being heard, so she tries to not make others feel that.
✩ Yoo Kihyun (27)/ The Carpenter
As someone friendly and expressive, Gen is lowkey fascinaed with Kihyun. She hasn't much ground to talk to him, but maybe both of them could unite and bond under the "run from home to join pirates and get away from a marriage" banner.
✩ Terada Takuya (29)/ The Captain
Takuya is someone that puzzles, fascinates and scares Gen all in one. She had never met someone so flamboyant and most of the time when she's around him she feels like she's literally seeing a character from one of her books in real life. How someone like him can be real??
✩ Undina Cadralia (24)/ Young Mermaid
Gen can barelly contain her enthusiasm when Undina reveals her true nature. The young human princess is positivaly elated that her fantasy stories came to life. Besides that, they have surprisingly a good amount of experiences to bond over, being both the youngest siblings of a royal family under a stric mother.
✩ Euphemia Rohan (21)/ Governor's Daughter
Gen thinks Euphemia resembles her older sisters, so she's a bit intimidated and aprehensive to approach the older woman. At the same time, she can see she's having a hard time adjusting in the ship and she knows she understands better than anyone what she went throught, after all, Gen was also kidnapped, even if she ended agreeing with with in the end. She wishes to offer some help, but doesn't know how.
✩ Amane Reki (25)/ The Surgeon
As citizens of Miyuseille, both Reki and Gen have lots of cultural and background things to talk about. Maybe at first Reki could be even more deferential towards Gen than any other person on the ship because technicaly, she was "his" princess (the princess from the nation where he grew up) but Gen on her side was just happy to have someone else besides the Loyal Handmaiden to whom she could constantly change between Inoshi and Flausfeti in the same conversation. Reki is a very easygoing person, so Gen would quickly feel comfortable around him.
BanaWarrior ✩ Bana
LAST COMMENT: holy heck I KNOW I made a heck of a race bend on basically everyone, but it's hard to find people that fit right into the conditions of Miyuseille :')
Also, I thought I wouldn't manage to write as much to her background as I did to Anoushka, but I got surprised xD
Oh yeah, yes, the Sicarius are a rip off of Assassins Creed lol
SCENE REQUEST:
✩ Geneviève calling Yukhei "Mon Trésor" and Yukhei calling Geneviève "Báozhàng". Both terms means the same thing xD (He can call her just "Baobei" too, if "Baozhang" sounds weird. I wanted to keep faithful to his heritage and make him say "Bóubui", but there is no cantonese equivalent in this world so...)
✩ This is more of a suggestion than a request I think. Although I leave it up to you on who was the pirate that actually took Geneviève from her room, the reason she was kidnapped could be that the Captain had a beef with King Zacarias and his informants got him the knews about the royal engagement, and he thought that it would be a great way to embarrass the Spenian King if he took the new fiancee of his favorite son right from under everyone's noses.
✩ Maybe Yukhei could meet his parents? Or somewhat get to know about the Sicarius so he would finally get 100% over his first kill.
