My favourite jobs/majors when writing

Welcome back to another "My favourite ..." blogpost! It has been a while but I'm here again to talk about things I love when I'm writing. As always, you should tell me what your favourite jobs and majors when writing (or reading) are in the comments.

This is mainly about writing from my perspective, though, and this blogpost will contain spoilers. Because well - it happens, lmao.

When I say majors, we're talking about college/university majors. Just so we're clear. ^_^

Let's go!

Jobs

  • Kibum as a vet - Âmes Soeurs
    • Writing Kibum as a vet took so much research but it was so much fun. All the different animals he meets, the diseases and the entire establishment of the clinic. When I was younger I wanted to be a vet. So - although I didn't become a vet, I got to live a little through Kibum and it was just .. nice. It was nice to not have a character that was one of the common careers but ... squeals, I just really enjoy Kibum as a vet!
  • Taemin as a climbing instructor - Âmes Soeurs
    • Climbing instructor was like the job I never thought my characters would ever have but Taemin fits it so perfectly. It was impulsive and fun and allowed for his character to be human in the best ways when I wrote him. It didn't create an illusion of a rich character and someone strictly successful. Taemin was in it because of passion - and having a job one feels passionate about is important. It also just ... felt right. That's the best way to describe it. (And it was really a lot of fun to write).
  • Jongdae as a midwife - Unpublished
    • So this is a spoiler but also, whatever. Ever since I got the idea for this story and started developing it in late 2017, this has been one of my most beloved jobs for my characters. I love the idea of Jongdae working as a midwife because to me it makes a lot of sense. Not only would Jongdae be an amazing midwife, he would fit the medical field really well. Despite that, he would just .. do much better as a midwife than a doctor or a nurse. Hahaha, I'm just so passionate about this. I know it's an uncommon job for men - all the more reason to write a man working successfully as one without being a ert.
  • Jinki as an author - Show Must Go On
    • Writing an author was refreshing. The entire story is based off of an old frustration with never getting feedback (I supposed all writers at one point feels frustrated like this) and it made so much sense to write an author. Writing an author, however, allowed for me to pour all my frustration as a writer into my character and that just felt even better. It's not a job I'm going to give more of my characters but for Jinki, it fits.
  • Chanyeol as an EMT - If Not Us, Who?
    • It really shouldn't be a secret that I enjoy writing jobs within the medical field that aren't doctors and nurses. Because many people makes a hospital go around. Chanyeol as an EMT felt so right. He's passionate, he's hard-working, he's kind. He's efficient and strong and he has a heart of gold. Isn't that a man you would want to save you? I know I would.
  • Kyungsoo as a pilot - If Not Us, Who?
    • I honestly didn't know anything about piloting a plane before I wrote this story. I'm not even sure what possessed me to make Kyungsoo a pilot but the minute I had decided, it just stuck. It felt so right. Kyungsoo as coming back once in a while, being busy, but still being silent and hard-working. I don't know why but it was refreshing. It was a new scenery to write whenever he was at work and I learned that pilots sometimes do take naps on intercontinental flights.
  • Taemin as a phlebotomist - Savior Medical Center
    • Just ... another medical staff member that isn't a nurse/doctor. And Taemin as a phlebotomist is perfect. Forget doctor Taemin (honestly, that would be so weird!) and see him as a phlebotomist instead. I beg of you, lmao.

Majors

  • Interior design - LoveGame
    • This was a fun major, even though I wasn't delving too much into it. It just made so much sense. And it felt more fun than architechture or fashion design. Besides, it's so Gwiboon so it fit perfectly.
  • Meterology - Unpublished
    • This story centers around weather a lot so studying meterology was a fun way to incoporate that. The main character uses the weather to dictate their life because of phobias so ... Besides, I have so much fun researching.
  • Mathematics - A Cliché Family
    • Look, I may not be fond of math in real life but writing about Taeyeon (fem!Taemin) studying mathematics is a lot more rewarding than math in real life. It's not one of those "classics", it's not physics or economics. It's just math and it's a little geeky and it was just so much fun.
  • Biology - To Hear the Angels Sing
    • I'm a biology nerd. I love it.
  • Marine biology - Beautiful Life
    • On a biology-related note; Jinki studying marine biology and being a huge dork when it comes to whales and dolphins - it's my thing. It allows me to just geek out and squeal about whales through a character and that he hurt Kibum with his big- books almost doesn't matter because - it's whales.
  • Antarctica Studies - Unpublished
    • Ok, so it's Minseok and it's for the fun of it and because his MAMA power is cryokinesis. That said, though, it's Antarctica Studies - how cool is that?

And that's it, I think. I have a few stories where I don't think I specify the majors uwu

I just love thinking "outside the box" so my characters don't all end up doctors, lawyers or criminals lmao.

Tell me your favorites to write. Seriously, please do. :D

Until next time

I see a Jinki annoying Kibum with his dorkiness. (OuO) [scrambles away to find Beautiful Life]

I think my favourite would be Ryeowook as a soldier, for an unpublished fanfiction (that I’m planning of hopefully publishing into an actual book). I don’t know, ever since Ryeowook was discharged and seeing him with that hairstyle, I was suddenly very motivated to write about Soldier!Ryeowook (like, a LOT). Something about being a soldier just appeals to me and my guilty pleasure when watching a movie has always been the involvement of a soldier or ex-soldier, I don’t even know why. X’D Their bravery to go into wars and their suppressed fear of death, along with their patriotism and loyalty to the country just seems so cool and honourable. :)
