— Erika always presents herself at what she deems to be her best and is able to attract positive attention spontaneously and almost everyone she meets likes her, and she loves forming personal relationships and getting to know others, or just talking to people. However, she is actually easily affected by criticism, but she doesn't show it, and she needs a lot of assurance that what haters say is not true. She also tends to do things without thinking, and most of the time causes a mess because of that. She usually has good ideas and acts on them immediately, but loses interest when it becomes too tedious to continue or when it doesn't seem fun anymore, and needs a lot of encouragement to go on.

— Erika was born in 1993 to a doctor and a housewife. Erika's mother was a fan of Amuro Namie, and she spent her childhood listening to many of Namie's songs and watching her MVs on TV. Little Erika loved playing pretend as Namie, imitating her outfits and performances. In elementary school, Erika got a lot of attention for her outgoing and ostentatious personality. When Erika was 13 years old, her parents moved to Singapore as her father had recieved a job offer at a hospital there. In Singapore, K-pop was a big thing, and Erika got to know a lot about it in her new school, especially the group SNSD which had just debuted.

— Erika learnt makeup from the popular blogger Xiaxue and inspired by the latter, created a blog where she posted her makeup looks. Aspiring photographers who were into the gyaru look often invited Erika to shoot for their portfolios, having her wear lingerie, bikinis or other outfits for shoots. Erika didn't mind this at all, especially with the attention it gained her. Erika also had gotten interested in dancing, and spent her free time learning SNSD's dance covers, and created a Youtube channel to post them. She was scouted by Amuse Entertainment in 2010 when a scouter found her cover of Genie.

trainee life

— Erika's parents told her that being an idol wouldn't be as glamorous as she thought it would be, but she decided to do so anyway, how could she say no to the attention it would get her? Against their wishes, she moved to Korea to train. The 1 year in which she trained was tough, with long days, back-to-back practises and diet restrictions. In addition, she had to learn a new language. What made it easier for her was that she made friends with another girl when she started training.

— After debuting, Erika got into partying and under the influence of alcohol, started sleeping with several other idols, and even slept around while sober. Her parents were right but she wanted the attention and refused to quit, and she needed a way to relieve stress and felt good anyway. One day in June 2012, she suddenly fainted during a practise and was rushed to the hospital, and a checkup revealed that she was pregnant. Amuse Entertainment wanted Erika to abort the baby but she didn't want to take an innocent life, and after a fierce argument they finally allowed her to keep the baby. Although she was forced to go on hiatus during her pregnancy, the baby didn't stop her from being her. At least she learnt the importance of safe .
