jae was born as an only child into a wealthy family. however, his parent’s weren’t always rich but they worked hard to earn and expand before jae was even born. his father started up a company after marrying his mother, it started off small: a hotel chain in china for rich customers that came from america to hong kong for business. over a series of years, the company grew into the mega corporation known as the dynasty group, partnered with the famous cell phone company samsung thanks to the founder (jae’s father) being good friends with someone involved with samsung. on the other hand, jae’s mother began to publish a series of self-help books about how to deal with the birth of your first child at a young age, and deal with depression afterwards since his mother had postnatal depression. his parents traveled frequently for their jobs. his father flying between america, south korea, and china because those are where his major hotels are. on the other hand, his mother traveled around the world to go on talk shows, fan meets, and so on and so forth. thus, jae was increasingly lonely and was forced to stay with the butler, maids, and chefs. but, good news was about to come.
jae’s mother got pregnant with his soon-to-be younger sister. though, that happiness was short lived. his mother had somehow contracted meningitis, the doctors said it was from the dirt in new york (after a visit for a talk show) and that was bacterial meningitis, the worst of its kind. it was four months of pure torture, not just for his mother and the baby, but also for his father and him. his father brought the best doctors to try and cure his wife, but it was to no avail. they watched as his mother went brain dead, and the baby passed away from complications involving the bacteria that was floating within his mother's body. jae was thirteen at the time. after his mother's death, he expected his father to throw himself into work like he always did or go crazy. but, surprisingly, he became even more involved in jae’s life. he'd stay more frequently in korea; and did skype conversations rather than making appearances in china and america. which meant, even though he lost his beloved mother and baby sister, he gained a stronger bond with his father. jae grew up pretty well, with just his single father (well the best any rich kid can grow up to be). and his father taught him the best he could; to be a kind, giving, and hard working person.
after graduating high school, jae applied and got accepted into snu on his own, the most prestigious university in the country, and this made his father very proud of him. at snu, he didn’t live in the dorms but his chauffeur would drive him there from his house, well mansion. it was just a - minute drive. at the university, he also became close with four boys his age; jungkook, yugyeom, mingyu, and eunwoo. they became popular around the university, especially with the students their age, and are known as the 97’ line. they are all handsome gentlemen who are the top in their field. girls try to gain their attention and affection and boys want to get on their good side.
seeing jae becoming less independent and too spoiled, his father didn’t want the heir of dynasty group to be that way. so one day, after jae kept waiting for his chauffeur to show up for an hour but didn’t. he called but got no answer so he ended up calling his dad and the conversation went like this:
“hey, buddy. make this quick, i’ve got a meeting.”
“dad, where’s mr. kim? i’ve been waiting for him for an hour.”
“i told him not to go.”
“wait, what? why? how am i suppose to get back home?”
“oh, don’t bother going there. i also told mrs. oh not to let you in.”
“dad, what are you trying to say?”
“i’m saying, you boy are too dependent on what you have but haven’t earned yourself. so to teach you a lesson, i’m forcing you to experience the world. i’ve sent your stuff to yugyeom-ah’s place until you find your own. no apartments.”
“no wait. dad, you can’t do this to me.”
“yes, i can and i’m doing it now. bye i’ve gotta go.”

ROLE : jae is like the bank of the dorm. anyone who's in need of money, he wouldn't mind lending them his credit card (he'd set them a limit tho) or when someone orders delivery he'd sometimes pay for it and steal some bites from it later. he's also their designated driver, tho he'd rant if they over do it. but if someone needs to go some place and he's free, he'd offer to give them a ride since he can guarantee they reach there safely. lol his role makes him sound like the dad of the dorm which in some way he kind of is.

DEVELOPEMENT : jae found himself thinking about rosé a lot and it bothered him. so he used his social skills and asked a bit about her. one day, he waited outside her major building, knowing that she finishes her classes at this time. when he spotted her exiting the building with lisa, he approached them. so he went straight to the point and asked her out while lisa stared at the two interacting in shock. rosé gently refused, stating she has no time for dating then dragged her friend with her as they walked away. ‘honestly same, but i have no idea why i’m so determined’ jae thought. the rejection didn’t stop him from trying so he kept on with his attempts. he found himself deeply attracted to rosé and wanting her attention. this scared jae since he never felt that way towards anyone before. then one day, as he was dragged to a formal party launch with his father, he spotted rosé there who looked like she was dragged by her mother too. the two talked until jae offered they ditch and go somewhere fun, which rosé gladly agreed to. so as they hung out at the arcade, bought ice cream, then walked at the park and chatted as they sat on the swings, they didn’t care how stupid they looked walking around in their formal suit and dress. a friendship sparked between them. rosé found herself opening up to jae. they bonded over their common effort in trying to live up to their parents and publics expectations; how hard and stressful it is. jae drove rosé to her apartment and dropped her off but not before they exchanged phone numbers and social media accounts. their friendship lasted for some time and the more rosé got to know jae, she found herself developing feelings for him. chaeyeon saw the developing feelings between the two and the image of jae with another girl bothered her. no, she doesn’t like jae, but she just doesn’t want him with anyone else. so she acted like a total towards rosé and schemed to ruining the relationship between the two. they went through ups and downs but they got through it together. the 97’ line were infuriated with the two. they both are obviously into each other but didn’t act upon it. so they bombarded jae into confessing soon before someone else comes and snatches her. as he was in the bar, he thought deeply about it and was scared to confess in fear of ruining their friendship or losing her as a friend. so drank himself less and in his drunk state, he texted rosé to urgently come meet him in the park. he was sitting on the swing where they first opened up to each other waiting for her. when rosé found him he immediately spouted out “i like you! i mean it’s nothing new, you already know since i never hid the fact. but i’m scared to tell you, you know? i don’t wanna risk losing you. but i like you, i really do. what about you?” rosé, seeing him drunk, didn’t know what to say or do. so after some time, she blushed and told him “confess again when your sober” then dialed one of his dorm mates to pick him up. the next day, as jae was hungover and remembered him confessing to rosé yesterday, he wanted to bury himself in a hole. but then he remembered her reply and had a spark of hope. so the next time he saw her, he bravely confessed again and rosé shyly returned his feelings. so the two started dating from there.
