1. when he was young, the naturally curious dallan had a deep fascination with pokemons. as a child, he often found himself sneaking into professor kim’s research laboratory to take glimpses of their work there (then kicked out after getting caught). having spent much of his time reading books related to pokemons, you could say he’s very knowledgable on them compared to other kids his age. the names of every single pokemon, how they usually are, their strengths and weaknesses, where they’re found, and etc. learning new aspects and information on pokemons became his source of enjoyment. so, he often jots down whatever fascinating he observes on pokemons he encounters in his notebook that he keeps in his tote backpack.

2. dallan decided to join aiden in his pokemon adventure and stayed by him instead of going to the university of pokemon science and research. he wants, first, to try to make a good and meaningful impact on the world, and second, to learn more about pokemons through experience and personally observing them in their natural habitats. his curiosity has remained a strong personality trait from when he was young, driving him to do whatever it takes when it comes to his pokemon research.

3. as a child, dallan was branded a softy and weakling by the other children in his neighborhood for his disinterest in participating in pokemon battles and was thus frequently picked on. too timid to defend himself, dallan took the blows thrown at him with aiden and millie shooing them off whenever they’re around. however, now on his journey with friends, he would often rely on them to protect him from his past local bullies whenever encountered. this, coupled with his frail physique, is a source of much shame for dallan, leading him to have poor self-esteem and to believe that he is a burden to others. because of this, dallan is always eager to prove his worth in other means than battling. he hopes that one day he would be able to truly consider himself an equal to his friends. his friends notice this about him and never seize to remind him that his mind is an equally valuable asset to their team, and that he can use his brain to help them and others. consequently, the reassurance does allow dallan to have some confidence in himself and his abilities. however, he still can be hard on himself at times.

4. dallan most times shows great disdain for aiden and co’s reckless adventures due to the dangers that come with it. but he—albeit reluctant—participates in their adventures and is mainly left to find a way to get them out of whatever trouble they land themselves in. so many near-death experiences have left dallan riddled with anxiety while his other travel mates excited with rushing adrenaline. he occasionally suffers from nervous breakdowns, which in turn makes him high-strung and irritable. so watch out for his sharp tongue and temperamental behavior when it does.

5. despite that, dallan is exceptionally loyal and selfless. he constantly worries about the safety of his friends, his pokemons, and even wild pokemons. he is always prepared to throw himself into dangerous situations to save them, especially when it comes to his partner pokemon, aipom. once having offered to sacrifice himself as bait in order for his friends to escape from an angry rhyhorn they ran into in the safari (he wholeheartedly blames dumb aiden and his useless courage which only fueled the angry pokemon). when he encountered a wild pichu that was injured and running away from a flock of taillows, dallan rushed to its aid, placing himself in danger as well.

6. dallan is also very level-headed, keeping aiden and their travel mates under control whenever their emotions get the better of them. he has talked down a fight aiden started with an obnoxious trainer, stopped millie from almost starting a cat-fight with a y contestant at a pokemon contest, and more than once restrained his mates from acting rashly during their attempt to catch a “strong-looking pokemon” and thus angering it.

7. dallan is a very analytical person. he likes to think deeply about situations and solve problems using his mind. this conjunctions with his intelligence, good judgment, level-headedness, ability to plan ahead, and the ability to come up with creative ideas and think outside the box. he is also good at thinking on the fly and improvising which really comes in handy when put in sudden or unexpected situations.

8. even though dallan makes calculated decisions, he is also a very emotionally sensitive and empathetic person. due to his kind heart, he faces conflict in his mind with his belief in following the logical thing to do rather than what feels right. dallan’s most consistent traits remain his kind heart and keen intuition, making him often maintaining his team’s morality. however, dallan strongly believes that morality is relative and that there are no universal laws of good and evil. therefore, he has a distaste for the terms 'good person' and 'bad person', since no one could be either good or bad to everyone.

9. dallan is definitely not an extrovert or loud person like aiden, so he’s sure that if he’s suddenly thrown into a leadership role that involves being in the spotlight, he’ll be quite anxious and will momentarily freeze up. the reason why he willingly lets aiden, being more confident and outspoken, act as somewhat of a “leader” to their team. although, when it comes to people he’s close or comfortable with, dallan can be more talkative and direct with his words. because of his straighforwardness, he can sometimes be insensitive and end up hurting others with his words. this is often showcased when he insults millie and her jigglypuff when irritated at the two calling them "you idiot and your gumball".

role model / gemma kim / pokemon professor / the sole reason behind dallan's dream of becoming a pokemon professor. he highly looks up to professor kim and views her as a role model. as a kid, dallan would constantly sneak into the professor's lab and silently watch the woman work in admiration. despite being caught and sent away multiple times, seeing how the boy just kept stubbornly coming back, professor kim took a liking to the boy's dedication to know and learn more about pokemons, seeing the potential in him. from then, dallan would randomly burst into the lab and watch professor kim work and bombard her with pokemon-related questions. having spent many hours with the professor, dallan has heard many of gemma's stories of her golden days as a renowned archaeologist. gemma enjoyed and thrived on dallan's excited reactions to her stories and hearing the strings of praises and respect from the boy, where you'd see a huge pleased grin on her face. gemma thinks dallan is a good kid with a bright future and is thankful for his constant attempt at damage-controlling her son. so, when knowing that dallan will be tagging along aiden on his journey, she was assured that her son is in reliable hands and won't end up rashly killing himself.

"dummy #1" / childhood bestfriend / aiden kim / 20y. / trainer / those two make a peculiar duo. they are contrast opposites; one is a spontantious social butterfly while the other is a calm reserved planner. one would question how the two even became close and that is only due to aiden's persistance as a kid and dallan realizing that the other isn't so bad. their shared interest in pokemon research brought them together and kept them close. honestly, till this day dallan questions how

"dummy #2" / childhood friend / millie lee / 18y. / trainer and coordinator / collab app / dallan's first impression on millie isn't the best; he definetly wasn't impressed with her weak battle skills and her weak unhelpful pokemon partner. but as aiden is a social butterfly, he befriended millie and introduced the two to each other, making them tied through him. they kind of act like siblings most of the time where they'd fight but also care for each other a lot. the two go back to their old dynamic when they meet again on the journey; constantly bickering and arguing about dumb like the best location to camp, which non-legendary pokemon is the strongest (with millie justifying her answers with absurd reasons like "it's got to be gyarados" "no no no, gyarados is just a strong water type. but, even plusle and minun can easily defeat it!" "have you seen how wide its mouth is?!"), and etc. with millie having no general knowledge whatsoever on pokemons and dallan being vastly knowledgable, the two often end up in splits of opinions and way of doing things. millie goes with her gut feeling while dallan goes with the logical thing to do. so, you can understand why the two would mostly be seen in a heated argument, almost ready to pounce on the other out of frustration. though, having known each other for years now, dallan learned to not take everything the younger girl says seriously and just sighs and rolls his eyes when she says something he disagrees with. he'd even laugh his off with aipom when she'd get beat up or ignored by a pokemon she underestimated. (possible scene that'll be ingrained in dallan's mind: they encounter a wild cubone and millie thinks it looks like a strong pokemon and wants to battle it only for her and roselia to end up being wacked until they both end up with a bump in their head). so it's to say, millie's stupidity either makes him laugh in hysteria or want to choke the other girl.

HELLO, AND THANK YOU FOR AGREEING TO THIS INTERVIEW. TO START OFF, PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF! dallan raises an eyebrow at aiden but then sighs as he pushes back his glasses and plays along. "i'm dallan koo, this dummy's bestfriend who tolerated him for twelve years." dallan points at aiden, dismissing his friend's threats to disown him as the bestfriend. "and my dream is to become a great pokemon professor one day." he concludes his intro. 

 

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT STARTING YOUR JOURNEY? NERVOUS? EXCITED? BOTH? dallan jots his bottom lip as he looks at aiden. "i'm not gonna lie, i actually never thought i'd be out traveling with you to fill a pokedex for professor kim. i always planned and thought that the first time i'd be leaving littleroot would be to continue my studies at the university. but life doesn't always go the way you plan." he remembers his conversation with professor kim as he smiles. "i'm still not giving that up, but for now, i'm gonna personally experience and learn about pokemons. it's nerve wrecking the thought of leaving home... but the excitement of an adventure is greater." 

 

I SEE. WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS ON TRAVELING WITH OTHERS? "as you know, i'm kind of socially awkward around strangers and leave most of the friendly talks to you." he nervously chuckles as he scratches his nape before continuing, "though i would say that having decent travel buddies will increase our skills and help in aiding each other so it won't be so bad i guess."

 

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SUMMER? dallan thinks deeply before speaking. "i've actually never been out of littleroot so there's so many fascinating places i wanna go and see! there's slateport city, sootopolis city, the forbidden forest, meteor falls, and mt. chimney. there's also the banana slakoth garden i promised aipom we'd visit and- oh." he giggles meekly. "i got too excited there, but yeah, we better be following our planned set routes if we are to visit all the places." he looks pointedly at aiden, hoping his friend got the hint but knows it went over the other's head.

 

LASTLY, WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THIS JOURNEY? he shrugs, "its simple. i wanna learn more about pokemons through experience and personally observing them in their natural habitats instead of just studying about them through books and behind a screen." when aiden nods at his answer in agreement, dallan fakes a sweet smile at his friend, "you done with your play interview now?"

SWELLOW ♀️FLYING, NORMAL
dallan first encountered swellow as a taillow on the third week of his journey with aiden and co. feeling excited to going out to venture and seeing the other trainers battle wild pokemons, while dallan isn't interested in pokemon battles much the thrill made him want to join and know what all the fuss about battling and catching pokemons was about. so, when faced with a lone taillow, dallan decided to catch him himself, telling his travel mates to leave it to him. they were all surprised and taken aback by his action so they complied. using aipom in battle and the knowledge he has on the wild pokemon, he outwitted and defeated the taillow, making it his first caught pokemon in his journey. after that, in a way of apology, dallan fed his now taillow an oran berry which it hesitantly took. when engaged into a battle he can't avoid, dallan would often summon taillow. with that, taillow evolved into swellow. dallan also summons swellow when in danger, leaving the bird pokemon on edge and having to respond quickly. everytime he does that, swellow would be all gruff and moody. at that, aiden would laugh saying that swellow really resembles its trainer. dallan would then make it up to the pokemon by feeding her an oran berry, just like their first meeting.

ability: guts - raises the pokemon's attack stat while affected by burn, paralysis or poison.

   
MUNCHLAX ♂️NORMAL
he meets munchlax as he, aiden and the rest of the group are traveling to their next destination. during the whole two days of them crossing through the woods, dallan notices that his supply of berries has been steadily decreasing. when he’s left with only two berries left, dallan gets into little banters with the group accusing them and telling them that their prank isn’t funny. they all bicker, and the situation is left unsolved with a disgruntled dallan. even after he stops by a market shop and buys more berries they go missing again and with that the whole group grow suspicious of the situation and decide to investigate. it’s then that dallan thinks that another pokemon has been stealing his berries and he plans to figure out who it is and tell them to stop. after staying up all night, his suspicion has been confirmed when a wild munchlax sneaks their camp and is seen snooping inside dallan’s bag. after confronting the wild pokemon, dallan feels bad and just gives in. after that, munchlax no longer sneaks around and starts openly following the group. seeing that, his travel buddies all convince him to catch the pokemon seeing how it took a liking to dallan. after that, dallan and munchlax made an agreement where the pokemon will stop snooping around his bag in exchange he’ll give him five berries a day. however, that doesn’t stop the gluttonous pokemon to sneakily steal a few more in secret.
moves: tackle, defense curl.
ability: pickup - picks up the item an opposing pokemon used during a battle. he picks up items outside of battle too.
hidden: gluttony - eats a held berry when his hp drops to half or less, which is sooner than usual.

 

JOURNEY HISTORY dallan spent his days sneaking around professor kim's lab and eveasdropping on the researchers discussions. every researcher there knows him and find his interest in their work cute so they turn a blind eye. however, when he's caught by professor kim, she'd scold him most of the time telling him that he can't keep spending his time in the lab only and would kick him out to go play which happens more often than professor kim likes. that's when he'd seek out his bestfriend aiden kim where, to his disdain, the other would , "got caught by mom again, i see." the two would roam around the village entertaining themselves. the thought of leaving his hometown to go on a pokemon journey never once crossed dallan's mind as he was preping to finally send out his application to the university of pokemon research and science. but after a deep talk with professor kim, he decided to halt that for now. and so, dallan quickly packed his bags, bid his goodbyes, and ran to catch up with aiden. his friend was tasked to fill up the pokedex which means it's garuanteed they'll be meeting and seeking out many different types of pokemons. and that's when the two boys start their journey.

 

DREAM if it isn't obvious by now, dallan's dream is to become a renowned pokemon professor one day just like his role model professor kim. he had a whole plan which was to watch and analyze the researchers work at the hoenn lab then when he's ready he'd apply and go to the university of pokemon science and research. he was going to send his application but upon professor kim's advice, he thought he'd take the older woman on her words and venture around while he's still in his youth then continue on his planned path after he feels satisfied so he'd have no regrets.

 

TRIVIA
 dallan would just die to meet a legendary pokemon. he's read all about them, seen video documentaries, and etc. but never got to marvel at one with his own eyes.
 while normal type pokemons may seem boring to some, they're dallan's favorite. he finds their diverse movepools to be fascinating.
 you will always find him stocked up (especially with berries for his pokemons), either by packages sent by his parents or his family connections with other mart owners around hoenn. those are his perks of having mart owner parents.
