Her mother offered guitar lessons in their home and thus Erika too learnt to play the guitar when she was 5 years old. She quickly fell in love with singing while playing the guitar. Her neighbour worked in a supermarket and snuck milk home for little Erika, and she quickly grew taller than most children her age. (if you're not clear, Erika's mum became pregnant shortly before her dad passed away)
2000-2008 : Erika was bullied in elementary and middle school as she was taller than many of the girls and even boys from all the milk she was drinking. When she was 14, she wrote a song detailing the bullying she suffered and her feelings, recorded a video of herself singing while playing the guitar and uploaded it to Youtube. She recieved many praises for her sweet voice and was offered a few kind words and encouragement to ignore her bullies too. This spurred her to produce more covers. From then on, when she got bullied in school, she just went home, recorded herself singing any song she felt like while playing her guitar and uploaded it on Youtube.
2009-2014 : When Erika was in her first year of high school, she fell in love with a male schoolmate and became pregnant with his child. Although they were both very young, they wanted to have the baby. He got a part time job as a convenience store cashier and promised to get into a good university and get a better job in the future. Not wanting anyone to know she became pregnant, Erika dropped out of school and started offering guitar coaching like her mum. During a routine checkup when Erika was 8 months pregnant, the baby's heartbeat was abnormally low and Erika was rushed to the OT for an emergency C-section. Although her baby girl was still alive, she was breathless as a result of the umbilical cord becoming twisted. Miraculously, the doctors managed to save her. Erika named the little girl Hana as she felt that she bloomed like a flower under tough circumstances. Life was pretty normal after that until 2012 when Erika's boyfriend had a nosebleed for seemingly no reason. A visit to the doctor revealed that he was suffering from cancer and wouldn't have long to live. During the last 2 years of his life, Erika devoted herself completely to taking care of him and making sure those two years were happy. He passed away peacefully on 25 February 2014.

( trainee life ) : Big Hit started accepting female trainees in 2015 and they were scouting for trainees online from various social media. One of Big Hit's managers noticed Erika's Youtube channel and got in touch with her. Erika was reluctant at first, fearing that she could never see Hana again, but both her daughter and her mum agreed to move to Korea with her. The family of 3 moved to Korea with Erika's guitar, and Erika started training at Big Hit. Erika was very shy and it was hard for her to open up to other trainees, but an older trainee, Sungcheol, helped her get used to being in a group and life in Korea. Juggling training and motherhood was hard, and Erika even had to get a bank loan for the first 2 years of her daughter's school fees, but she pushed through her struggles and it was lucky her mum was in Korea with her and thanks to technology, she could still keep in touch with her daughter through phonecalls and Facetime.

( hello, Erika! please introduce yourself. ) : Hello everyone, my name is Sato Erika and I'm VRSA's main vocal, I'm 26 this year and I have one daughter.
( what are you thoughts in being in a co-ed group? ) : I think it's a really cool idea because I've never seen or heard of idol groups with both male and female members, and I think being in one would be really interesting.
( interesting. well, do you have any problems living with the oppposite gender in your dorms? ) : I was a bit freaked out at first, because I had a boyfriend before but I didn't live with him. All my life there were only women in my house. But I'm slowly getting used to it.
( i see, i see. how about telling me what makes you different from the rest of your group? ) : Hmm... I never really thought about what makes me unique. I guess maybe I'm the only one who has a kid?
( what's your role in Vrsa? both in the group and in your dorms? ) : I feel that I'm the mum of the group, taking care of my kids, and in the dorm I'm kind of the cleaner because I always have to clean up after the other members.
