Adriana was born on 17 March 1995 to a newly married couple living in San Francisco. Her parents, being typical Asian American parents, had high expectations for her, hoping she would grow up to be a lawyer or doctor, or at least make something out of the ballet and piano classes they sent her for. However, when the 2008 financial crisis struck, Adriana's dad lost his job and the family of three moved back to Korea. Adriana's dad managed to get a job as an administrative assistant, but it wasn't enough to support a housewife and teenage daughter. Luckily, Adriana was tall for her age and had the looks and body of an older girl, which got her a lot of attention for the photos of herself she posted on her blog and was scouted as a model.

While in Korea, Adriana had been exposed to several groups but didn't really want to be an idol, she was much more interested in modelling, which became her full time job once she graduated from high school. In 2016, a company called Blockberry Creative was started and they were scouting for trainees. Adriana was scouted due to her good looks, even though she didn't have any performing talent but they thought maybe if they trained her hard enough she could sing like Ailee or dance like Hyolyn. Adriana wasn't really interested in training, thinking her looks could get her wherever she needed, and always performed at the barest minimum. BBC decided to send her onto an idol survival show, hoping it could motivate her to train harder.
