君の膵臓を食べたい (Kimi no Suizou o Tabetai) also known as 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas' is a Japanese romance drama film directed by Sho Tsukikawa. Released in 2017, the film features Takumi Kitamura as the shy, introverted Haruki Shiga and Minami Hamabe as the sweet, optimistic Sakura Yamauchi. This film was also originally based on a novel written by Yoru Sumino.

Set in a high school, the story of the film focuses on Sakura Yamauchi (Hamabe). Sakura is a sweet, friendly and optimistic girl who suffers from a terminal illness. At a hospital, she meets her classmate Haruki Shiga, a shy and introverted boy who refers to himself as 'I'. He also happens to have accidentally read Sakura's 'Disease Coexistence Journal.'  Throughout the film, Haruki and Sakura become friends and eventually start to develop feelings towards each other.

The story plot is also set twelve years from the past and present featuring Shun Oguri as adult Haruki as well as Keiko Kitagawa as Kyoko, Sakura's close friend.

Despite the misleading title of the story, this film is like an emotional rollercoaster. The lines in the script were very powerful and moving. Also it is simplistic, the cinematography of the film is pure, yet aesthetically pleasing. Hamabe gives a perfect visualistion of Sakura's personality within her characterisation in the novel. Although Kitamura is known for being one of the members of the Japanese pop/rock band Dish, his portrayal as an introverted character were really cool. Also despite having minor scenes, Yuma Yamoto's character, 'Gamu-kun' creates the comic relief during the film.

Overall, I highly rate this film 9.5 out of 10 stars. The story of the film is very unexpected despite the misleading, horrifying title. It is really an emotional rollercoaster that it will lead you to tears. It is well worth seeing, so don't miss it! Also anticipate when this story becomes an anime this year.
