My favourite couples

We're back! This blogpost is about romantic couples in my stories. It's not necessarily my OTP's (Onkey, Xiukai and Chenyeol in case you didn't know) although I can't guarantee that especially Onkey won't appear, haha. (I have written a lot of Onkey, just to be clear...)

So let's get started!

Pssst: as usual you should tell me about your favourite couples in your own fics!

Here are my Top Whatever Favourite Couples in my own fics.

1) Kim Jongin & Lee Taeyeon in En Pointe

En Pointe is a drabble, but this is a relationship I really love. Jongin and Taeyeon are both ballet dancers in En Pointe and it's quite important. Jongin is the main dancer and the better of the two but Taeyeon is not at all a bad dancer either. (This does not reflect my thoughts of them as dancers in real life).

In the beginning, their love for ballet is what leads them together and what propels them forward. They tease each other, practice at night and work harder. The practice room is filled with laugher and love and passion.

Then Jongin falls deep into his eating disorder. The practice room becomes filled with ambitions and Jongin becomes very narrowminded, his mind on one goal. They still love each other, but hasn't said so. Taeyeon begins to fear for him, begs him to see something else than the prize as the main dancer but understands somewhere deep inside the desire to be the best. She silently watches him, her heart aching.

When Jongin finally gets his big role and his big breakthrough, Taeyeon is there by his side, proud and caring as always, although there is still fear in her heart, worry and concern at the man she loves who withers away with dance practice.

Taeyeon, however, is no stranger to eating disorders either and she too falls ill. She isn't nearly as severely ill as Jongin but it still affects her too. When Jongin ends up in the hospital, she is there beside him, stating her love to the man she has watched wither away, afraid of saying anything because she knew his ambitions and he knew she wanted it just as bad.

They are a dysfunctional couple at best, both ill and both wanting something extremely unhealthy. Their ambitions both stretch towards the same goal although they were never competitors, but the love they held for one another became fear, concern and worry and the inability to communicate before it was too late. It became hoping for the best although knowing somewhere deep inside that there would never be a good outcome to this.

2) Kim Jonghyun & Kim Gwiboon in Russian Roulette

Another drabble, but I just ...

Jonghyun and Gwiboon is definitely a strange relationship and it is not one to want. It's toxic at best but addictive to both of them, well, until it isn't that addictive to Jonghyun anymore.

Gwiboon is a dangerous woman. She's seductive and deadset on one goal. Jonghyun is a dangerous man as well but has more feelings than Gwiboon. Their relationship revolves mainly around and they're both fine with that. Gwiboon doesn't love and Jonghyun doesn't need her love.

They meet up in hotel rooms for a night of physical pleasures and a game of death. Both carrying guns whenever they meet they play a game of Russian Roulette before having . It's the thrill and the excitement of surviving that turns them on. It makes the wild and crazy and satisfactory to both of them.

Right up until the moment Jonghyun meets another woman and tells Gwiboon he doesn't want to meet up with her anymore. Guns against bare skin, that's how their relationship ends and that's the danger and dysfunctionality of it all.

I don't know why I love this so much despite it not being romantic in the freaking least. I think it's the danger. The ual relationship without the emotions. Jonghyun knows it's dangerous to call it off with Gwiboon but he dares her to hurt him nonetheless.

3) Kim Kibum & Choi Minjung in Ante Mortem

Look, it's all been straight couples so far. That's actually surprising me, haha.

Ante Mortem is a WIP but Kibum and Minjung in that story is what I live for. The two are extreme opposites. Kibum was born by a e, raised in a brothel and has become a low criminal, living in the scummiest neighborhood. Minjung is the only daughter of a wealthy CEO, enduring emotional and verbal abuse while she attends blind dates her mother establishes.

The two of them come from so vastly different worlds they should have never met. But they did.

Kibum loves Minjung for the comfort and safety she is. She's not at all perfect but she has accepted him exactly as she is and she gives him comfort, something he has never had before in his life. Minjung loves Kibum for the experience he is. She has never met common people as such and being with Kibum gives her the ability to be normal.

A note: Both are polygamous and as such in relationships with other people as well. (Kibum is dating Jonghyun besides Minjung while Minjung is dating Taemin as well).

I wrote this earlier in The End so I'll just leave this here. Just know that I really really really love Minjung and Kibum.

Minjung and Kibum are opposites attract in the most extreme way. They met accidentally while Minjung was stalling before a blind date. Kibum saw her and decided she was probably worth the clothes she wore and decided to pickpocket her. But Minjung is a smart bean and she saw his intentions and instead of screaming "police!" she practically handed over her purse, cocked her eyebrow and asked him to get it over with because "she's busy". That encounter sparked an interest because it was highly unusual for both of them and physical attraction is real.

Kibum never tried to steal from her after that but Minjung likes giving him things from her own room. It's a little silly but she hates her bedroom so she will sneak out expensive decor and give it to Kibum because he could use the money and Minjung doesn't want the money, she just wants the freedom everybody else has.

She's jealous of Jonghyun and also somewhat of Kibum because - heck, everybody gets to do what they want to do, indulge in their interests and they can spend their hard earned money on whatever they want because they deserve it. She never had the freedom to do what she wants or to pursue her interests and she never had the joy of saving up to something expensive. So she's actually pretty jealous but she doesn't show it.

Their love-making is rough and passionate and often a tangle of limbs and bodies and it's also breathtaking in a fun way. Kibum likes taking Minjung public places on dates and Minjung enjoys the momentary freedom to do whatever she wants, even though there's nothing stopping her from using a lot of money.

She feels super insecure and unsafe in Kibum's neighborhood but most people do, really. She still spends a lot of time there. Kibum, on the other hand, feels super out of place in her neighborhood but unlike Minjung, he doesn't like to spend time there. The way people glare at him like he's dog poo, nope.

Minjung has told her mother about Kibum and boy, does she hate it. Minjung's mother would rather forget her daughter is dating a commoner than ever admit to anyone that it's the truth. So her mother just glosses it over and completely ignores it when she establishes blind dates. Minjung spends a good time complaining to Kibum.

4) Kim Kibum & Lee Jinki in Why Did I Fall in Love with You?

This story is sad. I think that's what I love about their relationship, though.

The romance is mostly unrequited because it's never voiced out loud in fear. It's Kibum worrying and taking care of Jinki while Jinki sinks into chaos and lets his mind rule him without regards. Jinki is oblivious to Kibum's love throughout the story and he only sees himself. That doesn't mean he doesn't necessarily like Kibum or that he hates him - it just means, Jinki is in a place where he is unable to worry about other people, spending all his energy on himself.

Kibum, on the other hand, is irrevocably in love with Jinki. He will do anything, just to make the other man happy - even if it meant becoming unhappy himself. He takes care of Jinki, knowing full well that Jinki won't be able to remember when he wakes up in the morning. He follows him to make sure he returns home and to some degree also blames himself for Jinki's misery.

It's a heart-breaking love, one that hurts because it's so overwhelming.

And it's the promise of being together. Not of love and not wanting the promise of love - but the promise of fighting together. If love isn't the end result, then so be it. As long as they're together.

5) Kim Gwiboon & Lee Eunsook in Uncertainty

Gwiboon and Eunsook are parents in Uncertainty. They have a 3-year-old son and an infant daughter in NICU. I don't know if that's important but that's the reality of it.

Their relationship is one of love. It's clouded with worry for a baby whose life is at stakes, fighting the depression of losing their daughter and upholding normalcy in order not to worry their son too much. It's a relationship of strength and love. I love how they mask their own desires and yet are able to read one another.

Eunsook is on leave while Gwiboon works and makes sure life is as normal as possible for their son.

I think it's a depiction of strong love and even though they have their times where things are tough and they can disagree, they still stay next to each other in thick and thin. Not alike, Eunsook and Gwiboon are working through their differences to a hope for a better future. It's the romantic relationship I may be romanticizing, haha.
