APPEARANCE : 

— Her face suits her mentality—she can go from that childlike, innocent look to the idol image who's professionalism and seriousness can be seen. But on her normal days, Xinyi's refreshing face makes everyone feel good. Always adorned with her sweet smile, her wide, doll-like yet mysterious eyes which showcases different emotions turns into slits showing her eyesmiles which also goes very round showing her infamous puppy (more so bunny) aegyo. She has this not so pale skin (being always bathed under the sun because of her wushu trainings, thankfully Seoul's weather made yet skin tone fair again) yet it has this healthy glow that makes her petite figure not on a sickening, unhealthy image. Wushu made her muscles firm, but it doesn't go bulging. Instead, it only made her limbs have a soft feature, baby fats are still being burn under the process of growing.

Standing 165cm, she admits she's a little bit small compare to others (but still happy having Yerim and Irene unnie lower than 2-5 cm which is a big deal for them), but those long arms and legs only made her feel awkward and stumble a lot. She's petite by making news portals issued her of anorexia due to her almost 20 cm (but in reality, it was 25cm) waist. It was her slightly average bump (which she's thankful for those numerous squats during training) that made her figure somewhat of a model like (but her conservative, childish and rowdy attitude makes every brownie points to be hidden)

One thing to spot her is her smile. Like really. Everytime, it's like something autaumatic within her that makes her being scolded for smiling even on serious events.

FASHION STYLE :

— Comfortable. A certified fashion noob yet she, herself, plus her positive outlook (and the sad glares she's sending every time someone teases her weird fashion), saves the day! Being a plain, conservative country pumpkin, she wears a bunch of normal clothes that she thinks normal because she knows to herself if she tried hard to mix and match clothes, she'll end up creating either a funny outfit or a new fashion trend (because anything looks good with her anyway)

— Pratices. She has this huge obssesion on long sleeves and "comfortable" for her means wearing something she's free from moving (being a grown up puppy bunny moving around) without feeling almost half .

PERSONALITY : A fluff ball of sunshine. Xinyi’s the type to live up with her name, feeling the duty of making everyone’s day be lighter with her smile, snide remarks, innocence and her jokes.

No one can really think what’s going on with her brain. Sometimes you’ll see her staring in one space. Then you’ll see her almost brawling with Kim Dongyoung. When time permits you’ll see her snickering and gossiping with Yerim. Always you'll see her acting like some puppy constantly teased by members but still excited and jumpy.  Basically, she’s the combined female version of Sicheng and Yuta (or the female form of Junwoo minus the flirtation): Clingy, childlike, the epitome of every group’s maknae (even tho she’s not), sweet every time then throws sarcastic remarks when she feels too, uses her charms to get away with something, too lazy to wake in days she lacks or overused her energy and so much more. She was originally a reserved child being a foreigner but after crossing paths with the infamous 99 liners (Yerim and Suhyun) plus Yuta’s day to day tutorials on how to learn korean (and be sneaky), she’s now a dangerous character to be reckoned by.

Her spirit animal? She’s a sloth camouflaged into a bunny’s fur of energy. She’s a beagle, hopping around everywhere then lazies when not recharged. She’s fun to be with but can be too much to handle when out of control (which makes both of the leaders shake their head watching Nct’s 2nd honorary mom Kim Dongyoung trying to straighten the wit out of the girl). She’s annoyingly slow witted yet lovingly cute at the same time.

But as the curtain closes, lights dim and doors closes, she’s having conflicts that smiling is very foreign to her doing it all alone. Subconsciously, she's trying, yearning, to get someone's attention, for a minimal time of affection she wishes her mom can give to her.

BACKGROUND : Get ready for the sob story: 

Every mask hides an unseen facade. And the smiles the girl spouts is much very deep if one can see through.

Don't get her wrong. It isn't her smiles are all fake, they were all genuine. It was just sometimes it's too heavy that she couldn't afford to let anyone knew her struggles and be burdened by her trivial problems.

Xinyi, named after "sunshine" being born in the darkness of the night, were the words her mother murmured before colapsing due to complications after giving birth. Thankfully, she survived, a miracle enough but the young Xinyi doesn't think of it. She almost lost her mother’s life and it was her fault, her mind says. She was supposed to be terminatted as it entails danger to her mother but she was kept. And with that price comes her mother’s uterus tumor to worsen, making her almost disabled. But it didn't stop her to care and baby Xinyi. For the years her mother was kept within the walls of their home she diligently taught her Nihongo as she sings to her from time to time. It was as if a strong connection that binds the two inseparable. It was when she’s 7 when her mother, sitting peacefully on a porch, asked her to be near. She couldn’t understand why everyone—her aunts, uncles and grandparents all present in her Mom's room—were grieving while her Mom smiles, the brightest of all. She has a bad feeling, but her mom’s smile eases to her, making her outburst when her Mom asked what's bothering with her bunny. She told her everything, that she's at fault, that she doesn't deserve the life--but her mom chuckles. It’s faint, but it soothes her utmost conflict, that it was her fault seeing her mom suffer for the rest of her days. You were silly, her Mom says, you don't have to feel sorry for me, you're just making me worried and sick, her mom reasons, if you are really sorry, just smile for me, bunny, her mom wishes.

It was her promise that she carries all throughout her life, even with her Mom gone. It was saddening, but hey, she doesn't want her mom to be worried sick again watching her from above. As she grew, she learned to smile away everything, anything, and soothe one's burden with a smile. It was powerful as she gained friends after it, she doesn't feel lonely anymore, but she still yearns for affection. Something her Mom can only give.

After the tragic happenings, her father continues their family business, their pet shop and veterinary clinic, where she, her siblings and her Mom has bonded their remainding days together. Their business makes her, her older sister and her older brother be fond of animals, making her dream to be a vet someday. Her older sister, however, is interested in the business sector, which makes her dream to be 2nd in hand next to his father in the business. Her brother, as well works in the industry making connections for their business. Everywhere they go, her father flaunts his children like his prized treasure, his trophy children, and sure is proud of them. They are talented too, her brother being in a dance club and sister on a singing club. But of course, they have some flaws too, and that is where Xinyi sees herself to excel. In wushu and acting.

By the age of 6 she and her siblings started wushu but because of their school at that time, being older and having a large gap with the youngest, Xinyi was always left behind. No one wanted to play with her, we're busy, honey, why don't you just sit down and watch the baby animals, they've always resons to her. But she can't sit still. Without her mother, even her father and sibling's attention, she grew lonely. As days passed after her Mom's death, her Wushu teacher happens to see through her smiles. It was then when the teacher gave her a distration, something she can put her time to use, a training for an upcoming Wuchu competition. Maybe your Baba will be proud of you. Hearing those words, she saw that as an opportunity to make her father be proud of her, to notice her. She worked hard to be excellent in the field, strived without anyone knowing. By 13 she’s competing on various competitions and everytime she won, she proudly flaunts it to her father, thinking that would make him proud but the frown on his face was always evident as he checks her bruises from too much exerting herself. You're just hurting yourself, her father said. You must stop now before anything happens, her father reprimands. She couldn't understand, why does his father see him as somewhat fragile? Why does he treats her like she can't do anything?

She was told to stop but she doesn't. She even tried much harder. She hates it when someone thinks shes subpar from others. If you can do it I can too, she says. I will be greater without you noticing, she smirks. Other than wushu, she's also into acting. And one day, as her school plays her first musical being the main lead, she was secretly hoping that her father might be proud of her using her skills into different use. Yet, the play finished without any of her family on sight. It wasn't great afterall, being on the main, she mumbles, if ever thousands of people noticed me, will I be happier, she tries to figure out when suddenly an agent went to her, scouting her. You'll perform on bigger stages, she says, you'll have much more fans cheering you, she persuades. But she only needed her family's attention, she argues on her head. But when the lady told her, you will be known and your family will be proud of you, it somewhat  dawned on her, may be she's right. This is the path my siblings cannot be good at. And her ambitious and rebel side worked up, auditioning against her father's will and became part of smrookies at the age of 14.

LIKES:

Favourite Food — Anything with pasta. Too bad, shes on a diet. But also too bad, it made her crave for more. And oh, spicy foods.
Favourite Ice Cream  — She's not picky, really, but being left with strawberry flavor after her older siblings gets the chocolate and vanilla first, she grew accustomes to it.
Favourite Fruit — Pineapple. Just who ever doesn't want the sweet yet tingly feeling eating this fruit?
Favourite  Color — White. It's just it looks so pure and clean and pristine that any color can complement with it.
Favourite Number — 10. Being her birthdate at all.
Favourite Artist — Henry sunbaenim from Super Junior. She's really not into music before she entered SM, but really, who's the first person for you to be be inspired the most? Learning he can speak different languages, can sing, dance, rap and play instruments, has great personality, fingernails talented than the average person and being loved by all, he's the only contender she can see (and she gushes with it so many times)
Most Confident in this Body Part  — Eyes. The brat knows how cute her eyes are and uses it on different purposes. (mainly on asking for attention, for aegyos and saving herself with her "puppy acting")
Favourite Subject in School — Physical Education. She enjoys moving around and this is the only subject she can liberally do everything without being reprimanded.
Favourite Season — Winter. Cold seasons are the worst, yet snuggling with other people is the best.
Favourite Accessories — Child at heart, she only treasures the necklace her mother gave to her. That's the only accesory she wants.
Favourite Sport — Wushu. From the deep bottom of her heart.
Favourite Animal  — She knows she's being called as a "Bunny" but really, there's nothing more precious than her dogs (Tokki-yah, Yongie-yah! Annyeong!)

Least Favourite Food — There's realy none except maybe some types of vegetables? Some that's bitter for her taste.
Least Favourite Ice Cream  — She loves every flavor (having a sweet tooth) she guessed flavors that are exotic? like spicy noodle flavored ice cream if there's something like that existing?
Least Favourite Fruit — Chiko. There's those fruits on tropical countries that she really doesn't like the taste.
Least Favourite  Color — Old smoked colors. Somthing about those color makes her sad and she doesn't know why.
Least Favourite Number — 13. She doesn't really don't like the number, it's because of the friday the 13th stories.

Dark —  Simple, you cannot see anything, making you think there's something on the nothingness.

Left Alone —  She just can't stand being alone. Not just for the simple reason someone might be lurking in the dark to get her, it's just that she feels really, really intense and if she's not focusing her mind on one thing, e.g. praticing, she'll cry. And when she cries, everything rushes to her making her having hard time to breathe. 

HOBBIES:

Exercising—  Being a dancer and a Wushu girl, she can't her body fall limp during rest days.

Drawing—  She's not really that good, but she's trying to learn.

HABITS:

Smiling problems — too serious. Like even during sleep she's seeping.

Nibbling her lips—  whenever she’s nervous, made a mistake or she’s being scolded.

Staring—  when she falls into deep thinking (its the part where shes not smiling and all focused on thinking)

Blinking rapidly and signing deeply when feeling her tears coming out  — It's like a meditation she'd think she's mastered to stop herself crying with people seeing her. Not atleast with persons like their leader, Yuta and Doyoung knowing her all alone.

Talking to herself  — Many are weirded, but this is only normal for her because why can you talk to others while you cannot talk to yourself?

WEAKNESS:

Family—  It was a very, very sensitive topic for her not even coming home for years because she's afraid she still hadn't made her father proud + afraid being scolded for running away.

Tickles—  Her body might be athletic but doesn't mean being vulnerable to tickles.

Being alone (MAPS) — A known fact that she's simple minded and letting her laone on some places doesn't ease their worryies. Even she can speak 4 languages, she's very shy with stratngers and can't to a places without someone accompanying her. (Plus she gets very lonely it really has a toll on her health)

Children: She really loves and adores children, but she's afraid she'll made them cry.

STRENGTH:

Language—  Speaking 3 languages almost fluently (Mandarin, English and Nihongo) + currently gasping newly acquired language (Korean) makes her the speaker for all of their tours.
Strength—  Athletic body. Training for Wushu means having your body as light as a feather.

TRIVIA:

Hates being reprimanded — Yeah sure it's alright to be scolded for a reason but not to the point like she's hearing impaired and some slow-sitted person not able to understand one thing for them to repeat everything.

Sleep talks — Sometimes even sleep walks. It's weird to the point her members can't pinpoint if she's really asleep or not.

Cannot lie — She's very honest and her choice of words aren't much filtered out (Good thing she isn't accustomed on telling deragatory or bad words)

Likes being teased — She's not that very slow-witted but when her members makes her a target of their teasing session, she secretly loves it.

Secretly petty and revengeful — Whenever someone criticizes her, she revenges by making them wrong. She's accustomed on doing things secretly, which makes her heart flutter around when a shock was etched on the hater's faces. She knows it's bad, but it's really a good feeling having exceeling on things others thought she cannot.

Overthinks yet simple-minded — It's the real reason why she seems someone slow - witted. She wants to know the exact details which makes her ask and ask and ask and ask for the nth time and won't stop after figuring out herself.

Not totally innocent — She's pure, but doesn't mean she doens't know. She's just overthinking but cannot pinpoint the answer being simple-minded afetr all (e.g. NCT laughing for some suggestive joke courtesy of Ten but doesn't get the part why it's funny + NCTIOA dropping hints and laughing with each other on live braodcast and doesn't get why are you saying things for our comeback isn't that illegal which makes the fans knew those are real hints thanks to not really innocent Xinyi)

Cannot be separated. They're just the epitome of Mother and child who loves each other as day passes. Minatokki carries the burden of letting her child know from her siblings that Xinyi's the reason their mother is now weak. As her body fails day by day, she chooses to look strong for her sweet, innocent child to be happy and optimistic even the day comes when she'll left them. She teaches he how to speak Japanese, teaches her how to sing and draws for her child to be talented as she dreams for her to be.

They aren't that close. Due to the fact he knows how he'd neglected the child, focusing much on their familyl's businesses and putting pressure on the child. PERSONA :  Annoying Bunny: It's not she always blabbs that makes her annoying but when she does, either she’s subconciously throwing shades (she's just honest enough not to sugarcoat words), aegyos + arguing it's a foreigner’s mistake to save herself from the wrath of the whole team or asking and asking and asking until she gets the point. She’s that adorable.

PLOTLINE + POSITION : YUTA: Lead Vocal, Lead Rapper, Lead Dancer

VOCAL TWIN  : Yoojin. Her vocals isn't so strong but it's somewhat soft, like an angel.
RAP TWIN   :  Yoojung. Her voice isn't strong nor solid but she still has learned rap (she's really trained to rap due to being a foreigner but she's able to grasp on the language and her vocals improving right away)
DANCE TWIN  :  Yoojin. Wushu made her have advantages on learning dances of every genres including popping and so much more while still being graceful and fluid.
VARIETY TWIN  :  Yoojin. She's funny and cute without her trying that makes the et be fond of her (aside from being an easy target = being known for slow-witted)
TALKING TWIN  :  Yoojin. She speaks clearly but for Korean it's like her voice becomes small and fake while in other language it's really normal.

TRAINEE YEARS : 2 years (2014-2016/debut of her unit)

TRAINEE LIFE : brief explaination of trainee life and their hardships that i can write about

Having Wushu in her system for 7 years, dancing is something new yet familiar to her. For a short period of time, she gets to excel immensely fast having the mindset that she can as long as others can, she also can.

It was hard for a foreigner without her only parent’s support to live on a foreign city. Everything feels foreign to her—the food, the place, the new life. She almost felt out of place, if not for Kim Yerim who approached her seeing that she’s awfully quiet (and looking so lost). It was a taboo to not be friendly with male trainees but it was Yerim who introduced her to a boy named Dong Sicheng, whom introduced her to Nakamoto Yuta, whom introduced her to the trainees of the company. She was stumbling on everywhere—on dance practices, rap trainings, much greater in vocal practices as she was not a natural in singing (but thanks to her mom she can sing quite well) even on acting that she knows she excells with.

But due to her friendly, bright image yet somewhat weak demeanor, help rushes to her. Thanks to her languages, she can speak using english with other foreigners such as Mark, her budy for their midnight extra classes no one seems to know, Yuta for telling her how to cope up and touring her around South Korea, and other female trainees that babies her even she's not that much of a maknae (Lami’s seems to be more mature with her to be very honest)

Before every dreaded monthly evaluation, she hears every flaws the trainors sees, even taking all other trainees "hates" because honestly, seeing anotehr foreigner into the practice room means another competitor for the debut route. Many criticizes her for being slow-witted, not capable of debuting, weak on all aspects and so much more. The members are somewhat concerned on her since she's all lokking too fragile but that's what Xinyi isn't. She not the one to be burried and rooted—she's a stubborn little cactus that digs through the hard land, making her survive without others help. She makes every negative be positive. With no one seeing her practice all night, she's growing and takes everyones breath making her deserving for the debut.

IDOL LIFE :

2016— her time to shine. It was a great shock that she was included in the 2nd set of line up for SM’s new dynamic girl group. She hardly got skills, only looks, other trainees says. It is for Chinese expansion for the group, others speculates. It made him down to the point that she felt it was hard to smile anymore—that just one opportunity can cause her a target for arrows to be thrown to her. She realized as she goes up, others want her down. But no. Not at this point when she can shine now, where she can be with herself, without pretending, that she can be like her siblings that brings not only smiles but also worth in the name of their family. Something from her bloodline, even her mother can be proud of.

But of course, it's not that easy. It was much harder, though. Originally quiet, sm wanted her to be part of the spin off of nct tv—ioa tv. There she showcased her strengths such as language and flexibility. Also her worst like cooking which ironically made her land on some mukbang shows because of her "top-notched" criticizing on korean foods suitable for foreigners. A well known fact she can't lie, she was included recently on the master key as special guest which portrays how deceiving she can after years of being in idol industry. After that show, SM has proudly produced another 4D idol but in all fairness, this was her true her. No pretending, just the simple, pure, slow-witted but competitive Smile generator Xinyi.

Because of the rotational in the group, she actually contacts the other members from time to time as she senses their time to time pressures. With the new members, especially the foreign and the young ones, she's a little bit shy yet tries to communicate with them, trying to make them feel they are belonged in the group as well.

She's always seen as some innocent fluffball who only knows how to eat, be cute, sleep, be weird and smile. But everyone that knows she's a little more reserved in real life. She had these extremes: the annoying, active one she chooses to show to others and the lonely one she withholds with herself. She's awfully silent without others around, making their leader become protective of her because she knows how idol life can destroy some mentality.

STORY ARCH  :  

Pre debut arch.

With her mom already gone, she tries hard not to let anyone feel pity with her. It was difficult, but her mom shows her that the world will continue spinning and if she doesnt get well, it's entirely her fault. She’s sensitive with mother-children topics, much more with father-child since they were not close as she’s a certified mama’s girl. However, this doesn't stop her on trying to get the acknowledgement and recognition from her father making her enter a new world she's entirely unfamiliar by.

Trainee arch.

She's a foreigner. A timid, reserved foreigner. Being a new trainee, she's been on the talks—everyone is curious and the same time sees her as new competitor. Didn’t much help since she couldn't understand everything. But then, thanks for Yerim paving way for her to be close  with other trainees, she slowly made her way to other trainees' hearts making her feel welcomed as day passes.

Trainees arch first snow.

As she seems to have difficulties, she tries to practice much harder. As monthly evaluations coming, she needs to step up her game which makes her be night buddies with Mark on an accident as she pleads the boy to help her with the dance. It becames too frequent that her dance becomes more polished, language more grasped with yuta, winwin and kun’s help. However, there’s one aspect she's still having difficulties— vocal. And there, the night where the firsat snow drops, an angel that seems to hate her approached her seeing her crying for the first time.

Debut arc.

Everyone doubts her. She's just all face, all smiley, all dance and everything a chinese member does. But no, it only made her strive even more harder to be something she doesn't think she'll dream of someday: be a singer.

Debut arc, knetz.

She tries too work hard, which what the cameras loved her. A rookie attitude to be as cute or attention grabbing as possible. But then, it made the knetz hate her as she snaggs all the attention, acting too immature for her image, using her foreigner status to gain from the members. It made her a little bit down for weeks, but it just made her have the confidence when she saw on those times how she is greatly loved by the fans who defended her and the members trying to cheer the happy bunny back.

DRAMAS : 

Sibling rivalry. They see her as someone rebel, the black sheep of the family.

PERSONALITY:

Too motherly. And nagging. It's just that they're the perfect mother and daughter tandem, having the younger ask and ask and ask without tiredness and then the older trying to  patiently answers. But then it tends to break all lose when they brawls, Xinyi annoys the other to no end then turns deaf when Doyoung stars to twitch then scolds her then apologizes to the child when Xinyi’s eyes stars to well up.

Also, a walking contradiction. Somewhat like a Tsundere. He's so not into helping Xinyi—it's just a candy wrapper for freaking sake!—but Xinyi has something that makes him want to shower the girl with all the love she deserves— maybe it's the sad look on her eyes? He really doesn't know, like he's weird seeing sadness with those eyesmiles. Maybe he's crazy, so crazy to help the girl shoelace her shoes after scolding her saying I'm so done with you, this is the last time i'll help you for the nth time.

LOVE STORY:

It wasn't a typical love story. Is there even love between the two? Of course there is, but both are clueless—one being whipped and denial while the one too dense and naive.

It started from their first meeting— where Xinyi was caught crying by another trainee(not just another trainee as this was the senior trainee who fusses over things especially when she can't understand a thing—too late for him to know she's the new foreign trainee and still shocked on how talented the "only has wushu but no amount of music background" girl is) for the first time. She tried to play it off but then she just can't run away with her body numbed by sadness coursing over her.

It was the first time Dongyoung lent his shoulder to some stranger to be cried on. Eventually, the girl sleeps and Dongyoung, not really knowing who she really is except for the rumored girl being flirted by Nakamoto Yuta, looks around to see something more comfortable for the girl to sleep on.

By morning Xinyi was left alone in the couch, sleeping peacefully with a blanket on top. From that moment, she felt her mother's warmth the whole time she cried.

Trainings made them somewhat close, the fact she's now close with everyone and much with Yuta and winwin. Doyoung often sees her struggling, making him help her on some vocal pointers that made Xinyi passed the dreaded evaluation. As the trainers left, due to her jumpy nature, she hugged (much more tackled) the larger boy as she squealed with happiness, shouting "谢谢, はは!" (Thankyou mom!). Doyoung was left flustered, winwin, kun and yuta laughed and when the other trimess knew what caused the chinese and japanese members to laugh, they started teasing doyoung “umma”. Xinyi, thinking it was the reason that made doyoung red, and called doyoung umma later on.

Doyoung was in denial, hated the word "eomma" despite the urge to run fast as he could when he heard the girl shouting umma in the corridors. He was being teased by the members, on top of Xinyi being too clingy with him and asking his help to everything to the extend he snapped, making the girl shocked. It was the first time other trainees see Xinyi not smile for a second, but he knew better. It was the 2nd time he saw Xinyi crying inside but the girl apologized and run outside, making him run after and tried to console her.

After it, it somewhat changed. Doyoung should knew better that Xinyi’s clinginess are due to the  stress and pressure by the fans and her inner conflicts within. It was then he tried to be the one to initiate talks without anyone seeing, mentoring her for her vocals to be better, at the same time mending the mother child bond that was broken. He helps her, patiently trying to repeat everything step by step but stops for a second, mumbling I'm so done with you why can't you get it, then after some minutes he'll come back already armed with a strategy to help the lost girl understand the thought. At Least, we're still connected, even he was a mother figure. For now. Or so he thinks.

Bickering. Or sort of Doyoung trying to make Xinyi understand something but then ends up fighting but will eventually be soft and tried to help, the pouting girl again.

Xinyi being herself: bubbly, innocent yet blunt and savagely honest when needed. In case of emergency, break Doyoung (Or Xinyi asking for Doyoung's help and the other tryingto be subtle on helping but goes full pledge and doesn't stop until the girl is being helped.)

He's not as naggy as Taeyong when it comes to cleanliness but sure as naggy when it comes to overall. And the everyday bickering of the two is somewhat domestic: Doyoung nagging and Xinyi, clueless as ever, asks the boy to death.

Doyoung wishes to see some upgrade on how the girl sees him. Not that he has feelings, but as a man because he's not a lad to be a young mother? Like can't he be a father?

So one time, during their “mother-daughter bonding” (who does Doyoung kidds), he nervous as heck asked if what Xinyi sees in him

“wow” doyoung leans on the chair as he closes his eyes, disbelief running on his rejected brain “guess u can't live without me”

“you're just useful but i can live without u”

 

He feels the girl leaning also to the couch, making him aware that the girl is mostly sleeptalking by this time.

“how can i be bonny and fluffy at the same time tho?” he mumbles as he gently puts blanket on the girl's frail body when Xinyi grabs his arm and snuggles onto his shoulder getting him freeze on point “you're too tall but soft enough to be snuggled. And i like it”

And there, he guessed being one man home is better for now.
