personality —
Kangdae is probably the most funny and social person you have ever met. He can be really crazy and funny but that can have its ups and downs. For example, you can always count on Kangdae to make you laugh. You know when he is around because everyone is laughing at his silly jokes. His social mature will have him coming up to you to talk. He loves meeting new people and starting up conversations. He is aware that his face can look intimidating and mysterious so he will probably come up to you saying "Hey! I know I look really intimidating and mean but I promise I'm not." He rather have a large group of friends rather than a small group of friends. During outings he will be the first one to initiate activities and have fun. As adventuruous and clever he is, he never runs out of ideas when planning fun things for his friends to do with him. When I say adventurous, I mean things that may get him in trouble. He somehow never really gets into too much trouble since he can talk his way out of it with his charming personality. He can charm his way into a girl's heart or he can charm his way out of trouble. Regardless of the situation, he is a great person to be around. He can be the perfect wingman for you while trying to get a girl or he can help get you out of jail with the officials. His adventures are always new and exciting no matter what they are. You can go to a groccery store with him and it will be the most fun you've had in a long time. Whether it is dancing in the isles or almost getting kicked out, it will be great with him. 
Even though this is all really exiting to listen to his positive traits, his negatives can be really bad depending on the situation. First of all, you can't take this boy too seriously since he is a major troll. He will joke around and fool you to the point in which it is unnecessary. He can be really inconsiderate of other people's feelings when he is telling jokes. If you are sensitive, you may not want to hang around him. He can't help it though, because he is impulsive. If you set him aside and tell him not to make jokes about certain things, he will stop. But, if you don't set him aside, he will continue to be goofy and foolish. Since he has such an explosive personality regarding being social, he tends to be a bit of an attention hog. If there is a camera nearby, he will be all over it. He will make jokes and put all attention onto him. This is why he loves being an idol. 
Although he makes jokes about how cute and handsome he is, he actually is super humble with appearance. He doesn't think he is the best looking guy or the funniest guy in the world.
He is honestly a huge competitive person too, in regards to things such as competition shows and games, you would HATE to play against him. He will hurt your feelings with the smack talk that he gives.

background — 
Kangdae was born in a pretty normal family. He has an older sister that he loves to joke around with and prank, and a young sister that he cares a TON about.
At the age of 6, both of his parents decided it would be best to move to the United States. His dad quickly found a good job, since he spoke English and had a good amount of contacts with people who helped him find the job, and his mother felt as though she could adjust quickly. Ever since he was young, he played the piano. Playing the piano was "just something everyne should know to do" his parents would say. He ended up getting a keyboard because of his talent when he turned 14 and loved it. His love of rap and abilities t prooduce music wasn't noticed until later in high school. Around the same age of 14, Kangdae, known as Jay from all of his friends, had a hard time dealing with the fact that his dad gotten laid off of his job. Luckily, his parents recovered quickly and ran a groccery store near his high school. 
Jay always had a love for music, and as he got older, rap became closer and closer to him. He would pay money to see rap shows and would hang out with a lot of people who took rap seriously in high school. Going to cyphers and helping each other out by critiquing rap and freestyles was something he took very seriously. By the age of 17, his rap ability was pretty amazing and he gained a good amount of fans from uploading his original songs online. By his freshman year in college, around the age of 19, he gained a lot of popularity and had even gotten noticed by a few people on the streets of LA. After classes in college, Jay would go over and take care of it. He had tons of friends, although only 3 of them were truly close friends. They would always go to the store with Kangin to do homework and have fun. One of his friends was extremely talented. Her name was Sam and she was also Korean. 
One day after class, Sam brought her laptop to the store and she was watching K-pop videos. Of course, Jay and his other male friend were making fun of her. They kept cracking jokes and being silly. Jay even said "Those idols are so ugly without their makeup, how much do you want to bet for that?" Of course Sam got protective over her favorite group, who happened to be BTS. Jay made many offensive jokes about idols including making fun of the guys wearing makeup, ugly clothes, and sounding the same. This prompted Sam to say "Jay, I bet you would never live a DAY as an idol! You probably couldn't get past auditions! I'll bet you $50!!!" Since Jay is a silly boy, he took that to heart. "I bet I would be fine! I bet I'd be the best idol ever!" 
She told him that she'd be auditioning for TS Ent in LA for auditions and he should go with her to try. At first he was extremely hesitant to do so, but after a little bit of smack talking between the two, he decided to give it a try. He had no clue what to do and just started rapping one of his favorite songs off the top of his head. TS didn't call Sam back, but they called Jay back immediately. Sam was heartbroken that her dream was shattered while her friend who didn't want to even audition made it in. Knowing Kangdae's personality, he didn't really apologize or try to make her feel better. He immediately asked, "So, where's my money?" instead.
He regrets his inconsiderate decisions now, but back then Sam was devistated and he didn't help at all. 
After taking the money, he realized he should really go ahead and try to train. He liked the idea of having people all around the world appreciate what you're doing. Since he was already somewhat good at producing music from all of the music classes and piano classes he had taken,  he felt confident. 
TS Ent flew him out to Seoul, where he studied in school and trained. Trainee life was so hard, especially in the beginning when Kangdae had to perfect his Korean speaking skills. A lot of the time he'd fool around and get in trouble for not being productive or not doing something properly. 
After 2 years, he decided to leave TS Ent. He missed his family dearly and wanted to continue his life back in the states.
When he finally left his company, he still had to wait another year until the school semester was over so he could go back home. At one point, he called his friend Sam and broke the news to her. She chuckled at it for a while, but expressed sadness since she felt as though Jay would be a great idol. "I just wish you tried harder." was something a lot of his close friends and family said to him. Even though trainee life was hard for him, he still felt as though he could've done more.
One day Kangdae saw the poster for the Big Hit show along with the number and email to apply. He knew this was his last chance and went for it.

▪ Kim Taeksoo | Fellow freelancer | Taeksoo is extremely intimidating to him, especially since he never laughs at Jay's jokes. Jay believes he's a great rapper and would love to get closer to him but is afraid to.
▪ D.soul | Rap coach | Jay loves talking to D.soul. Even when they are supposed to be doing serious work, Jay goofs around with him and brightens his day.

My feelings are the most sincere. 

opinion on the bighit boys — Even though Kangdae has had a taste of the trainee life, he still thinks that the trainees aren't that big of a deal. He does have respect for what they have gone though, but believes he is just as good if not better. He clearly shows jealousy in the way he mentions them and jokes around with the freelancers about how the bighit boys probably will be in the final lineup.

opinion on the freelancers — He doesn't have too much of an opinion on the freelancers, since they all have different backgrounds and levels of skill. However, he is extremely afraid of Kim Taeksoo (my other character, wip), even though he tries to hide it by joking around with him. Jay is mostly afraid of how the other freelancers will react to him.

interview time ! 

"hey, please introduce yourself."  

▪ "What's up everyone." Jay claps, "My name is Yoon Kangdae, AKA Jay" He throws up a peace sign and grins.

"what made you want to become an idol and why did you apply for this show?"  

▪ "Ah..." he chuckles and looks down while biting his lower lip. "Is it bad to say I didn't really want to become an idol?" He laughs a bit more nerviously, "I bet my friend that I could be an idol and made it in. It isn't like I don't have a passion for rap though! I just thought this would be a good way for me to grow. In regards to this show, I wanted to challenge myself.:"
 

"how long have you already trained and have you been signed under another entertainment before? if yes, how was it there and why didn't you stay there?"  

▪ "Ah yes....I trained under TS Entertainment for two years." He hisses, "It was terrible. I wasn't as fluent in Korean as I am now, I mostly spoke slang and incorrectly, so it was hard to understand people and hard for people to understand me. Also, I got punished a lot for not working hard enough, and for goofing off. Also, learning how to dance is so hard!!!" He chuckles to himself, "But I left because I though it was too hard."
 

"what would you say is your biggest strength and your biggest weakness?"  

▪ "My biggest strength would be my energy and personality. I'm a pretty funny guy, don't you think?" He smirks and continues, "A weakness would be my singing. I can't sing so please don't ask me to sing...."
 

"how far would you go to become an idol?"  

▪ "I'll fight everyone until I win" He chuckles, jokingly. 
 

"what do you have that makes you a standout? why should we pick you for the show and not someone else?"  

▪ His face turns serious, "Well, to start off, I feel as though my different circumstances set me apart from everyone else. I am a goofy guy, from the states, and I have a lot of faults. I'm not the best looking guy in this competition, probably the worst one. And also, I haven't really trained that long and haven't had too much experience with this lifestyle. I'm really just a guy off of the street trying to give myself another chance."
 

"that's it so far. do you want to add anything else?"  

▪ "Hmm..." he his chin. "I want everyone to know, even if I goof around alot and seem like I don't care sometimes, that I do care and I would like to gain support and do well. I hope everyone can support me!"

Strength —  Kangdae is amazing at making people laugh. He can always change the crowds mood with one joke. He is also good at changing peoples moods from sad to happy, of course. He is also good at producing, since he has loved it since he was able to play the piano. His rap ability is also one of his strongest.

Weaknesses — He can't sing to save his life. Even if you try, he most likely couldn't ever be a good singer. Maybe if you work with him enough, he can possibly be a background... also he has a hard time staying serious. Since he is a goofy person, you may not ever see him being serious.
