Media and Brainwashing

The title is pretty self-explanatory. I think everyone will agree that the media tries to brainwash us to an extent whether that's the news highlighting that every brown person is a terrorist or movies pointing that every black person is a villain, every blonde attractive woman can't possibly have a brain because well, she's got s, and men think with their d***s whenever females are involved. To an extent, we're kind of guilty too since we're the ones choosing to attend to such media.

Where brainwashing becomes problematic is when we don't notice it. An example of this would be when Facebook decided to make its users guinea pigs for their 'mood experiment.' Basically, they manipulated users moods by showing them certain content with happy or sad emotions to see if mood was contagious. It is.

Recently I read a piece that discusses how Brexit and Trump winning the US election was a result of media manipulation. When I say media, I mean social media. So yet again naive people were used. Cunning people made money. Welcome to slavery-free modern society, guys!

How much time we spend on our phones, tablets, laptops etc. is no joke. I'm not saying we should cut off from social media. It's got perks and it can also be bad for us. But if there's anything to learn from this post it's to be alert. Don't blindly trust everything you see, hear and read. Don't be a slave to media. Question everything. Be a cynic. Don't be gullible. Be open-minded. Because why would you want to be wrong, for more than a second more than you have to be?

We went over stuff like this in my sociology class and I always enjoy people talking about this *^*
but fun (?) fact: my stepmom reFUSES to believe that Trump has issues, or that our government is suspicious, or anything. She doesn't even believe America is a capitalistic country-- or that we get brainwashed or that there's other news except what's broadcasted on facebook like--
