⟪ FULL NAME ⟫ Halcyone McLoughlin

⟪ NICKNAMES ⟫

Halsey ::
Everyone calls her Halsey because she only introduces herself to others with this name. Her parents are the only ones who calls her by her real name.

Hermione ::
Halsey's messy, brown hair reminded Peter of the Happy Potter character. He didn't have any reason to call her by Hermione but he had just learned that Halsey's name is Halcyone, and he needed something to with. She calls him Pedro as payback.

Little Miss Potty Mouth ::

Peter again with his many temporary nicknames for Halsey—only Hermione sticks but he makes one out of thin air when he feels like it. Well, it's not like Halsey always swears but it became a habit that she does whenever she's really excited or exasperated. It's not so fun though when her mom scolds her for it, so she doesn't really swear in front of adults.

⟪ BIRTHDAY ⟫ December 24

"There's literally no reason to be happy about this. I have a birthday. But we never. celebrate. it. on. the. 24th. My birthday is on the 24th! It's not on Christmas Day!"

⟪ AGE ⟫ 17

"Kid, are you really seventeen? You look, at most, sixteen..."

⟪ ETHNICITY ⟫

Halsey's half-human and half-mermaid, which would make her one-fourth fish. ... Kidding. She's one-fourth Italian and three-fourths Irish.

⟪ FACE-CLAIM ⟫ Mackenzie Foy
⟪ BACK UP ⟫ Amanda Arcuri

⟪ FASHION STYLE ⟫

"Halsey's style..? Uhm, it reminds me a lot of kfashion. It's quite simple but it works."

"Who? Oh, that girl. She looks like a basic ."

"Halsey? I don't really know who she is..."

Halsey found a treasure trove of sorts when Steph invited her to go shopping in this district filled with many clothing stores she never even knew existed. It was a second-hand store that sold imported overruns from several foreign brands. This is where Halsey buys her clothes when she has enough of her allowance saved up.

When thinking of clothes to wear, Halsey only values comfort, and one other thing... 'Will I be able to run and jump around comfortably in these clothes?' Not that she would, but that's not the point.

When a formal attire is needed, she tries to find a button-up shirt and a pair of slacks ...or a dress. But she only has one dress—it's pink and has no sleeves [1]. Honestly, she'd rather wear casual clothes if she didn't have her parents with her going to a social gathering.

⟪ APPEARANCE ⟫

Halsey stands at a hundred and sixty four cm tall—expecting something of a late growth spurt when she turns 18. She's a bit lanky, but her junk food addiction is certainly not evident in her healthy-looking limbs.

"Halsey? She's the junior with the braces, right?"

The first thing someone might notice about Halsey are her braces, complete with the tiny pink rubber bands [2]. Second is her light, rosy complexion and green eyes that stand out in stark contrast with her dark hair. Her brown locks are let down often in disarray. This regularly earns her a disappointed remark from Peter. The only time she ties her hair up in a ponytail is when she's working on a task that requires focus, because her hair is kind of long and it distracts her from her work.

In the near future, she wants to dye her hair in shades of pastel. Not quite sure how her mother would react, though.

 ⟪ SUMMARY ⟫

Approach the quiet Halsey and expect an introvert, you'll be proven wrong. From all her responses, a boring reply will not be one of them. Her replies may range from a friendly conversation starter, a subtle invitation to gossip, or an unabashedly delivered insult right in front of your face. After her best friend moved away, the cheerful and friendly girl became a moody, lethargic mess who can always be found sleeping on her desk during breaks. Her classmates talk about her shortcomings behind her back, but most don't even know who she is. Give this girl a chance and you'll learn that Halsey's a Pandora's box just waiting to be opened. ☆

⟪ PERSONALITY ⟫

⊕ :: affable, observant, astute, determined, resourceful, curious, humorous
⊖ :: easily bored, inconsiderate, irresponsible, lazy, easily stressed out, moody, rude

Halsey is one of those students who don't really stand out in school. She's usually by herself and the only time someone approaches her is if she has something they need. She doesn't talk much to the other students, but is an easy person to talk to when given the chance. She can even be talkative when it's about the topics she likes. Halsey used to be more cheerful, but after her best friend moved away, she didn't have anyone else to talk to during school hours. She's often found sleeping on her desk during break or when the teacher isn't around.

As she is often left to her own devices, Halsey's gotten the habit of eavesdropping and observing people out of boredom. She doesn't notice how it affects her both positively and negatively when she's interacting with others. Equipped with her broad knowledge of school rumors and gossips, it is quite off-putting when she unintentionally mentions some sort of mis-information she's stored in her head as fact or say something true that she wasn't even supposed to know. But it is helpful how she's very quick to notice when someone's gotten new haircut, and make a comment about it during their small talk.

Honestly speaking, Halsey is a bit tactless. Call her out for being inconsiderate but at least she's not worrying her @ss off about what other people might be thinking. She also has this individualistic streak and is very headstrong about doing what she wants. But, contrary to what others might think, Halsey isn't impulsive. She always thinks about the situation calmly and carefully decides what to do next before acting. In situations that needs quick-thinking, she tries to decide swiftly. It might not be the best plan, but during that moment, she weighed the options and that's the best thing she came up with. Yes, she really makes carefully-planned bad decisions.

Halsey's also determined. She's not afraid to do almost anything as long as she wants to. Haunted houses and jumping down from a fairly high level are nothing if she thinks that it's a good decision—like, if she's gonna be running away from otherwordly creatures, because that's the only time jumping down from somewhere that high could be a good idea. She's also keen on doing things she likes, like finishing a webcomic in one-sitting. That's actually a thing. On the other hand, Halsey's not one to take initiative, or at the least take the first step when doing something she doesn't like. That's also the reason why she still hasn't gotten new friends since junior year. Because she didn't want to.

Halsey also describes herself as lazy, which makes her susceptible to making decisions that make her lazy, when she could just have easily decided and done so otherwise. She avoids any sort of responsibility like the plague, but she deals with them unenthusiastically—and as quickly as possible (bringing out her resourcefulness and creativity)—if she's forced to. This is also the main reason why she gets stressed. And being stressed actually makes her moody—her responses could go from light and friendly to forced and snarky in a second. She does often tease others in a playful way, but not as harsh as she does when she's irritable. When she spouts some insults during her not-so-good moods, some people will still think that she's only trying to be funny hence they don't get offended. But she actually does mean it.

Being curious is something innate in Halsey. This is probably her best and worst trait yet. It could get her into trouble, yes, but it is also the driving force that keeps Halsey moving. Once she's bothered about anything, she looks into it, researches, and doesn't stop until she finds an answer (that satisfies her, even if it's not exactly the truth). She actually won an award about an essay on a research she's made about comparing gelato from different shops, and it even caught the eye of one editors of the Rosemore Gazette for how thorough and good it was.

⟪ FATAL FLAW ⟫

Halsey wouldn't take opportunities even if they were given to her on a silver platter. She's only concerned with doing what she wants, and more often than not, she doesn't see the bigger picture. In fact, she often runs away from decisions that could give a better outcome in the long run. Most of the responsibilities she doesn't take could bring opportunities for growth and more opportunities in the future. But Halsey's afraid of failing. She's too much of a coward to admit that though, so she tells herself that as long as she's happy, she's good.

If she becomes a guardian, she wouldn't think that she'd be able to do a good job. Halsey would rather go back to her boring life, because in that life at least, she has control over her life and her decisions. Save the world? Pssh. She can't even cook pasta al dente!

⟪ BACKGROUND ⟫

Halsey grew up in Roosenburg all her life. During her childhood, she vaguely remembers playing by herself most of the time and watching a lot of TV. Her brother, on the other hand—despite being really sickly when they were young—was the sociable one who had lots of friends. During vacations and boring afternoons, the two would help their mom out with baking or play games with a 2P option on a video game console together (if there wasn't one—like for the game Grand Theft Manual—Halsey would just watch her brother play). Halsey's dad was a high school teacher, and her mom sold pastries in a stall in front of their one-story house. Their house was small but their parents had some plans to expand the house by adding another floor.

Halsey was an above average student when she was young. She didn't study much but had achieved almost perfect—if not perfect—grades in every exam on all her subjects. This was the main reason that when she adapted her 'rarely studies' habit in the succeeding school years, she went from a top-notcher to barely passing her subjects. This was the main problem for those who can easily grasp simple concepts at an early age, and it has left a huge impact on Halsey. It was just like what Haruka from the anime 50% Off had said "When you're ten, they call you a prodigy. When you're fifteen, they call you a genius. Once you hit twenty, you're just an ordinary person."

Despite being considered "smart" when she was young, Halsey's emotional quotient wasn't quite as high as her IQ. She often didn't have the emotional capacity to be friendly and interact with the other kids. She thought of herself as better and often didn't trust her groupmates with their group projects and ended up doing most of the work. This attitude carried with her until she couldn't manage to finish group projects which affected her relationship with her classmates negatively and her grades as well. She did change growing up, but she grew more closed off to her classmates and unenthusiastic about learning.

⟪ HOME LIFE ⟫

Everyday, except on Tuesdays and Sundays as the shop's closed during that time, her mom works in their bakery called RoosenBread [1] together with two other staff members. Shirley does the important business decisions, financial work and helping out with baking. She also operates the cash register when the one in-charge is absent or is off fixing the busted fryer. RoosenBread is located on the first floor of the McLoughlin's humble three-story abode. Even though, it is in close proximity to their home (it's only separated by the ceiling), one would have to go through the side-door of the bakery with stairs that go up to the second floor where their actual house is. Her dad works at Rosemore Academy (the high school) during the weekdays but sometimes goes to the school on Saturdays for work reasons. Almost everyday, her brother goes out either to go to school or to hang out with friends. He always comes home late—but not that late, about 8 p.m.—but just manages to eat dinner with the rest of the family. Of course, it's not always like this. Sometimes, her brother arrives a bit later and misses dinner, or her dad returns late to finish up his work at school. They're all basically very busy, but they never fail to go out together if there is a holiday. They often go to the local shopping mall where they all buy gelato, a treat that Halsey's mom always bought—because it's her mom's favorite.

Halsey's day-to-day routine is quite simple. During weekdays it's: go to school, stay as late as she possibly can (or before her mom scolds her for going home pretty late—which is an early 6 p.m. if her classes at school end before that time), do some chores at home and maybe some homework, definitely play on her NDS, then sleep. On weekends, she tries to finish all her homework, and inevitably fails. She also doesn't go out of the house much 'cause she spends all day in front of the computer—so often, that her mom told her to at least help out in the bakery because "all you do is play on the computer" and that "your eyesight will go bad". Which is true, but also, she's doesn't get paid for her contribution. Either way, she begrudgingly helps out during Saturdays. But of course, she can't show her lack of enthusiasm. Because her mom will probably throw a tantrum or give out a tirade about how Halsey's so entitled that she can't even help her own mom if she even noticeably frowns while helping out.

⟪ WELCOME TO THE MCLOUGHLIN FAMILY ⟫

Dad, Edward McLoughlin (Ned Fulmer) ⋮ 46 ⋮ Headmaster @ Rosemore Academy ⋮ Dedicated, Sassy, Down-to-earth

A charismatic individual where most of Halsey's people skills (when she's in a good mood) comes from. Ed has been a History teacher for a long time in another school but has been transferred to Rosemore Academy about seven years ago. During this period, his repertoire had expanded from just teaching History to Philosophy and Literature as well. He has also gotten his school administration license and was unsurprisingly chosen to be the last principal's successor when she retired. Now, he teaches less because of his duties as the principal, but he's still manages to teach Philosophy this year. He's a huge mythology nerd and has this huge collection of Greek, Roman and Celtic books in his study room. He knows how to read them and Halsey is jealous because she only knows how to read and speak one language.

As a father, he is quite lenient. He doesn't insist what his children doesn't want but still hopes the best for them. It's quite similar to the way he runs the school. On the contrary, he might be a bit of a pushover but he's not without his sass that made him famous as a teacher. And even though he taught History, it wasn't boring because of his quips. It's what made him stand out but often checks himself so that doesn't get ahead of himself. For Halsey, he's better than her mom because she's is very strict while he isn't. They don't really talk much because he's busy with his responsibilities but they catch up when they're at home, that is, when he's not reading books on his free time.

Mom, Shirley McLoughlin (Ariel Fulmer) ⋮ 45 ⋮ Owner @ RoosenBread ⋮ Strict, Overbearing, Responsible

Halsey's mother is a very busy woman. She's probably spent more time with Roxanne and Bard—RoosenBread's specialty chef and barista, and the all-around maintenance man and cashier—than her own children. Shirley wants to support her family as much as she can, that's why she has turned into a workaholic of sorts. But due to the stress pent up from thinking about the bakery even when she's not working, she has become domineering even when she's dealing with her kids and husband. Ed is more understanding but Halsey and Howard doesn't like their mother, especially the latter, being bossy to them. Howard often threatens her mom that he'll run away, and she doesn't understand why her son is acting like that when she's done everything so that he grew up comfortably. They don't have a good relationship to say the least.

With Halsey, they have a better relationship than the one she has with Howard but Shirley's still quite strict towards her daughter. Halsey concedes when she disagrees with her mother, but this has pushed Halsey to act rebelliously in school and do whatever she wants—because her mother isn't around. Shirley has good intentions but because of working too hard, she has lost sight of her initial purpose—which is to support her children. Maybe it's because of her reaching her menopause period, but she's become prone to being more impatient and hot-headed. Ed told her that she needed to wind down and get a break from work. They've been looking for an additional staff to lessen the work Shirley does.

Bro, Howard McLoughlin (Finlay MacMillan) ⋮ 20 ⋮ College Student ⋮ Charming, Artistic, Stubborn

Howard was known in Rosemore Academy as a sort of casanova. It was never his intention to be known as one, but a lot of the female students found him charming albeit not being conventionally attractive. It doesn't help that he's had nine girlfriends throughout high school (not all at once). He insists that they're the ones who broke up with him but rumors in school tend to spread like wildfire, and because he was also gifted with talent in the arts—they dubbed him as Rosemore Academy's "Lord Byron". Between him and Halsey, he is the only one known to have Professor Ed as his father. Now that he's studying Visual Arts majoring in Animation in Rosemore College, his reputation has subsided within the college population but he remains a well-known myth of sorts with the high school students.

He's quite gregarious, even to total strangers. He also has very strong opinions—he's not the type to give up on his views just because others think otherwise. It even caused a rift between him and his mother, so he tends to avoid her when he's home—which is almost never, anyway. His major requires a lot work, and it takes a lot of time to finish all these projects and to study for all the written exams. He's closer to his dad and often visits him when he passes by the high school when his dad's not busy. His relationship with his Halsey is quite so-so. They both like anime so they sometimes do a series marathon when he's on summer or winter vacation. They don't hang out as often as before, though.

⟪ OTHERS ⟫

You're Not My Mom, Peter Han 한효종 (Kim Hyojong) ⋮ 19 ⋮ Student, Editor ⋮ Haggard, Persistent, Organized

Peter is very concerned with getting new people for the club because he's graduating next year. It's also because he owes a lot to the adviser of the Newspaper Club, as he got his scholarship because of them. He's a hard-working guy and wants to become a journalist, or something similar in the future. One distinguishing trait Peter has is his compulsion to tidy up his possessions. His hair is parted a bit to the side, but in a perfect straight line. His outfit is composed of simple clothes that always looks neat. And his school belongings—including his whole corner in the Rosemore Gazette room—are all organized. His syntax and diction used to be very precise and well-calculated, and he also used to prepare a script when interviewing club hopefuls beforehand. He was like a tiny Lucy Harper but more stiff.

He wanted to get Halsey for the team because he sees great potential in her work. He's been trying to persuade her to join for about a whole year now, and had unintentionally became her only friend after Stephanie left. He first found Halsey as a very intriguing individual, but he has long since gotten used to her sudden whims and mood swings. On a similar note, ever since he met Halsey, Peter has loosened up a lot. He speaks more freely than before, and not everything had to be perfect—he still had that weird compulsion to keep his stuff neat, though. Lucy thinks that Peter's articles has considerably dropped in quality, but while Peter still takes in Lucy's criticisms, he realizes that there is more to it than letting his worries take over his life.

A Familiar Face, Courtney Han 한수정 (Krystal Jung) ⋮ 21 ⋮ Assistant @ RoosenBread ⋮ Taciturn, Approachable, Kind

Halsey first heard of her during one of her mother's spiels. There was this new recruit they had that looked for a job because she wanted to continue her studies, but can't due to financial difficulties. And that Halsey ought to be more like this 'Courtney' because Halsey doesn't have to worry about money, only her studies, but she still gets mediocre grades. Of course, Halsey wasn't very happy getting compared to this... this buffoon. Well, Halsey finally saw this 'buffoon' when she went home from school one day when she saw an unfamiliar face inside the bakery. She caught Halsey's attention but Halsey thought none of it and told herself that it's just a customer. It came, then, as a huge surprise for her when she saw this girl a second time. She was wearing the RoosenBread staff's uniform and her name plate read Courtney. First of all, Halsey didn't like being compared to anyone. And second, why did this person, of all people, had to be Halsey's type?

Courtney is Peter's older sister. She studies Accounting in Rosemore College but had to stop for a while because, even with a scholarship, she couldn't afford the miscellaneous fees of the school. She operates the cash register (alternating shifts with Bard), and she helps Halsey's mom with the accounting aspect of the business. She's a woman of a few words but is very helpful and knows just what to say that you don't even notice her lack of... speaking—her presence is enough. As Peter's sister, she's just as quiet, but she gives him her full support when he needs help in school. Halsey's not aware that they're siblings, though. Mostly because they never got to talk about her mom's business or his sister's work.

Actual Personification Of Sunshine, Stephanie Lowe (Elle Fanning) ⋮ 18 ⋮ ??? ⋮ Optimistic, Eager, Humorous

At first, Halsey didn't care about her at all. She was just one of the many transferees in her class. She transferred to Rosemore Academy during their sophomore year. But suddenly, everything started revolving around her. She was Halsey's classmate then. She heard that Stephanie joined the school's basketball team, and despite being absent a lot of times (excused because of basketball practice), her grades were still higher than Halsey's—mostly due to Stephanie's eagerness to learn. Soon after she transferred, Stephanie got assigned as Halsey's lab partner. She thought that it would be pretty awkward—as Halsey wasn't the best person to be friends with, after all—but it wasn't. Halsey noticed that even when she's busy, Steph was still a fun person to be around with and she didn't get stressed easily even with school and basketball.

They got to hung out more because they were partners, even eating lunch together to talk about lab reports and Science homework. It wasn't long before they talked about their favorite music and their interests—sports for Steph and anime for Halsey. The hours of the day became too short for the two girls, they had too much to talk about. The old Halsey was a really introverted kid but Steph's cheerfulness was contagious. Halsey didn't know when it started but she got way too attached to Steph. She was her first real friend in a long time. But then, everything changed in the blink of an eye. Steph was gone. No phone calls, no notes, no text messages. She disappeared without a trace.

The school said she moved away. 'But why? She didn't even tell me. Did she even treat me as a friend? She was my best.. friend...' Halsey was heart-broken. The closest person she's ever had was gone. And she didn't only lose her only friend then, she also lost her first love. It was a no-brainer that Halsey was madly, deeply, in love with Steph.

HEY, HALSEY! ARE YOU GOING TO THE HALLOWEEN DANCE THIS FRIDAY? I HEARD THEY'RE SELLING TICKETS AT THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP OFFICE. I EXPECT TO SEE YOU THERE.

Halsey squinted. She had an odd feeling of déjà vu, but she shrugged it off.

"Peter, did you eat something bad? It's not like you to endorse the student leaders' activities when I know you hate their guts for taking all the good writers away from your newspaper club. ...And of course I'm not going. I already told you that the other day, didn't I— "

Halsey's eyes widened.

"Are you... are you an alien? Did you get replaced by an alien WTF?!"

NO, HALSEY. STOP PINCHING MY FACE! IT'S STILL ME. I'M STILL ME! HEY, YOU'RE JUST DOING THIS ON PURPOSE, AREN'T YOU? RAMBUNCTIOUS LAUGHTER IS HEARD. *SIGH* WELL, IT'S JUST THAT... I DON'T WANT TO GO THERE ALONE. LUCY— YOU KNOW HER, RIGHT? SHE FORCED ME TO WRITE ABOUT THE DANCE. SO, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE-

"No."

PLEAAAAAAASE? LUCY'S GONNA KILL ME.

"I think that's more of a reason why I shouldn't go. So, no....oooookay? Are those coupons for gelato?!"

*SATISFIED SMIRK* GOT YOU, MISS GELATO FREAK. WELL THEN, WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO WEAR?

"I'm gonna wear... Hm. Actually, since this is all so sudden, I'll come as the proof of my procrastination—which means I won't prepare anythingI HOPE YOU LIKE ME."

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA! NOT SO FAST, HERMIONE. AT LEAST WEAR A COSTUME. HALSEY STARTS TURNING AWAY. HALSEEEEEY.

Depite the urge to more, Halsey had this soft spot for Peter because he did keep her company when Steph left.

"Okay, I'll humor you. Do you want me to go as Hermione?"

I GIVE UP.

"Hey, I was being totally serious."

In the back of her mind, though, she had finally decided that she'll go as Wendy [1][2]. Geddit? Because she's going with PETER HAN. Also, because the costume is pretty simple.

THIS IS KINDA OUT OF TOPIC, BUT HAVEN'T YOU BEEN MISSING A LOT OF CLASSES LATELY? EVERYTHING ALL RIGHT?

"Well, mom. Your daughter is doing great. Just getting a teeeny bit stressed out because of the crazy amount of projects the teachers are giving us."

OKAY OKAY, I BELIEVE YOU. *PAUSE* JUST REMEMBER THAT IF YOUR GRADES START SLIPPING, I CAN'T REALLY RECRUIT YOU FOR THE GAZETTE.

"Then, good. I'll skip classes more."

FFS, HALSEY.

Halsey's love interest could be anyone in the story as long as there isn't too much of an . She could also be a love rival for the other guardians, or have no love interest—she's not too gung-ho about getting someone, after all.

⟪ LAST COMMENTS ⟫

sorry my app's so messy and my character isn't that interesting OTL. if you see any contradictions or sth pls tell me! i changed things around a lot and probably have overlooked it. anyway, i hope you kinda enjoyed reading this.. :'D also her dad is the headmaster @ the high school bc i believe they have deans in college for each course/program? btw, did you notice all her crushes have bLONDE HAIR??? *ps, i changed the name of the movie/game/books but i'm too lazy to point it out so if u see some weird word or phrase, that's probably it

⟪SCENE REQUESTS ⟫

- Halsey joining the Rosemore Gazette, or the student council (Peter: What???? How come you have the time to join the student council but not oUR club?!?!?!) because she thought that she could try joining some extracurriculars to get her mind off things and then right after, she suddenly becomes a guardian. It would be fun seeing her freak out @ all theSE ~ReSpoNSibiLitIES~
- Mystery arc where they debunk a rumor about something in school or somewhere else in Roosenburg
- Her ex-bff comes back pretending to not know her. It could be that she came from the void thats why she went away, or it could just be a really mundane reason... like her parents transferring workplaces or something.
- TBH anything funny. I'm a er for funny scenes.
