Justice League (2017) Review

SPOILER ALERT

So, what JL (JUSTICE LEAGUE) is all about?

Superman is dead. Everyone is losing their hero. Criminals become bravier to act in a broad day light and a threat from an alien is coming. Our old Bruce Wayne notices this and decides to unite people with superpowers into a team. Meanwhile, the bug-like aliens that have kept appearing in Gotham are the armies of Steepwolf, a mythological creature who is thisty of power. He is looking for motherboxes, 3 power sources that can make around them become wasted if they are united. That's the story. Batman and Wonder Woman are trying to recruit Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash to beat the Steepwolf. Their first problem is Aquaman and Cyborg don't want to cooperate with them. Second, when they are trying to fight Steepwolf, they realize that they are not strong enough to beat him. They need Superman. With one motherbox in their hand, eventhough Diana disagrees, Bruce has an idea to bring back Superman from dead. Can they bring him back? Is that even a good idea? Can they stop Steepwolf? I think you can guess the ending from there.

I can't help but to compare this movie with The Avengers movies. Surely, JL has a darker tone. The coloring is darker as well. Most moments are intense. While Marvel is trying to reach the fanboy inside us, DC Comic brings up more mature issues in a more mature ways. The problem is.... JL is not really like that. I feel like it's trying to be like Marvel movies because the plot is too typical-superhero-movie. From the ending when the enemy has defeated, the heroes become so much fun-loving instead of relieving that they just save the world. Childish, but unnatural. I think that's the part that I most dislike. The other parts are.... The villain is not built well and boring, the cutting-techniques are so unsmooth, there are some dialogues that are hard to understand because it's supposed to be self-explanatory but fail (but this one maybe just me), AND the batman loses his charismatic. Before watching, what I was waiting the most is, of course, Batman. But in JL, Batman is not bad-, smart, a great detective, a good strategist, and a mysterious vigilante as he's supposed to be. His identity is revealed so many times and I think that's stupid. The story wants Bruce Wayne becomes self-conscious about him cannot lead the team because he needs Superman. Unfortunately, that makes his image becomes weaker.

Not strong enough to beat MCU (I'm not on Marvel side btw), but JL is not that bad either. In general, this movie makes me want to watch more if they make another JL movies. Why? First of all, it's because each characters are developed well. It's still too short to explain them all, especially the three new characters (Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash). Cyborg's back story as a succesful football player who becomes his father's experiment is not moving enough, but we can see that by his struggle of being a robot all of sudden. The Flash is comedic and really fun to watch. Flawless. The scene where he plays Blackpink - As If It's Your Last really catches my attention. Aquaman (or more-like AquaBRO, for me) is an interesting fun-loving and arrogant character. Steepwolf is just off. In the beginning, we can feel the fear when he defeats the Amazon armies alone. But in the end, he's just playing defence and not threatening at all. Lame villain. Wonder Woman is still great since her own standalone movie. She is not just gorgeous and pure-hearted but badass as well. She is the best here, for me.

The best fight scene is not even when they are fighting Steepwolf, but with the revived Superman! It's set up so well. The whole movie actually is about "the world needs Superman". We are hoping he comesback, but not anticipating it. He becomes the 'hope' of everyone. The ultimate hero. It's potrayed as the human among all our other heroes. Superman is the strongest as well. So, when he's revived, loses his mind, and starts fighting the league, we get the thrill of it! We know how dangerous he is but, in the same time, how important it is for him to be fully-awakened. There, it's proven that the other heroes cannot overpower him. It's so cool when The Flash sees Superman's eyeball is following him, proving that he has the super-speed as well. Overall, Superman looks so badass there, even until the end of the movie. They really fix its image. That is my most favorite moment in this movie.

There are so many things we still can discuss but I think it's enough for me. To conclude, I think it's an entertaining movie with our lovable characters, such Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, in it. But not yet in the level of Avengers movies and The Dark Knight trilogy. Sadly, JL has too much expectation from people hmm.......
