My Top 3 LGBTQ Movies Revisited

I was bored today and suddenly thought to revisit some good old movies in my possession.  Going through them, I ended up re-watching a few of my favourites.  Below are my absolute top 3 movies focusing on the LGBTQ community, links to watch them, and reasons why I love them.

Latter Days - A Story of LOVE

This movie.  I feel I must first address the two gorgeous male leads.  Like... -dropping gorgeous with impregnating smiles and fire-burning chemistry.  Outside of the undeniable eye candy, however, this movie address a very serious topic: the impact of extreme religious beliefs on people living outside those beliefs.  It tells a story of how even a person most loyal to his faith is, in fact, just a person trying to find his place in life.  It tells a story of a person who seems to have all the freedom in the world but is, in fact, shackled to a sense of emptiness.  It's a beautiful love story of two people struggling to come together in a world that is dead set on tearing them apart.  So what happens?  Fate decides to give them a much needed helping hand.

There are so many emotional moments in this movie that gets you right in the feels.

Kiss the Bride - A Story of LETTING GO

This one addresses a few topics: letting go of a past, marriage expectations, and biuality.  It expresses the confusion and heartbreak of seeing an old flame beautifully with the chemistry between the two male leads.  It also brings to light that not all women who find out about their fiance's past are unreasonable; I've never seen a would-be bride as loveable as the female lead.  It takes on society's expectations of marriage and the perfect wedding.  It reminds us that marriage is not about money, a paper of validation, or your guests' expectations.  Instead, it's about commitment between two people.  The movie also addresses (and this is one of my favourites) biuality.  Too often, I see people pick a "side" or "team" as if they are only able to love either men or women.  This movie addresses just this... that it's not about gender.  It's about LOVE.  Sometimes, you don't love MEN.  Instead, you love A MAN.  Another great movie with lots of feels (and definitely moments of hilarity).

Prayers for Bobby - A Story of LOSS and REGRET

This movie brings on the heartache.  The fact that it's based on a TRUE STORY is even more gutwrenching.  It addresses the topic most important of all: a parents' acceptance and unconditional love for their child.  The story slowly and painfully builds to the but that's when it brings the real hurt.  The mother's regret destroys her to her core.  However, the movie does have a healing ending.  With her pain, she rebuilds herself with a new goal in life.  This one is definitely for the OUCH book.

If you haven't watched any of these, please do yourself a favour and do.  I like to think that growing up watching LGBTQ movies has made me into the open-minded and embracing person I am today (I'm pretty great, if I do say so myself).  I only wish movies like these were more mainstream so others, too, can reflect on these very important topics.
