The Evolution of my Bias List

I was just thinking back about all of the biases I've had since I first got into kpop in early/mid 2012. I'm a sentimental person so I was feeling rather nostalgic and here I am writing this.

This blog post is a bit of a mess, but I honestly have been wanting to let this out for a while, so I'm glad I'm typing it all out.

But, before I start, a few notes/disclaimers:

1. It's very rare that I'm able to pick one bias. I usually have at least three in a group, sometimes less, and if the group is huge, more. I'm very serious when I say they're biases, and I love them all fairly equally, but the feelings I fluctuate on a day to day basis, so ranking them is impossible, and they're all tied for first in my mind, within the first few places.
2. I use the term "Ultimate" heavily. And, every time I've had a new Ult, it's because of something that's emotionally prevented me from being able to refer to the previous one as my Ultimate anymore (save for when I switched from SHINee to Exo, cause I was kind of in love with both, but Exo was more active than SHINee in a lot ways and yeah), and it's always been sad for me to move on from it. But, that doesn't mean I don't love them any longer.
3. Since the moment I got into kpop in 2012 until now, Korean music (not just Kpop, but other forms of music as well) has been my main musical outlet. I've had many people tell me Kpop is nothing but a phase, and while the thrill of listening to the classic "Kpop" everyone things of when they hear the term may not last forever, my taste in music is very hard to change (hence the whole BTS situation I've currently been in) and I'm very picky when it comes to music. When I find something I like, I stick to it, and Korean music is not just a phase for me that I'll one day give up. I'm not going to be cheesy and say it's a lifestyle, but it's certainly what my musical interests revolve around.
4. In all of the lists I give below, most of the orders everything is in is not concrete, because, like I said in 1, they fluctuate. The only ones that are concrete in placing are the first few for most of them, and definitely 1.

Alright... let's get into now. I'd love to hear who everyone else's very first bias was in kpop, and whether or not it's changed to this day.

I'll start with the group bias list, then go into a member bias list (kind of) and then the Ultimate bias list.

2012
I only listened to SHINee until Exo debuted.

SHINee was my ultimate bias group.
I also began listening to Infinite a little bit.

2013
I became SM Entertainment boy group trash and Super Junior joined the list. I wasn't into girl groups at all at the time, except for a little 2NE1. BTS Debuted this year, and while I listened to their music, they weren't yet a bias group.

SHINee was still my Ultimate bias group up until probably mid year or so... and then Exo became my Ultimate bias group.
at the very end of the year, I started listening more to groups outside of SM, and B.A.P and Block B became bias groups.

2014
I listend to A LOT more artists outside of SM Entertainment, like B1A4 (who I love still), NU'EST, Topp Dogg (this makes me sad), MBLAQ (also makes me really sad), UKiss (again... Kevin is my bias), I followed Winner from when they were Team A until their official debut as Winner, Teen Top, 100% and quite a bit more.
BTS became a bias group.

Exo was my Ultimate Bias group until... October.
BTS was kind of my savior, and they became my Ultimate Bias group.

2015
Nothing much changed this year, to be honest. I listened more to other artists, and I started listening to girl groups more too.
I was still on my Exo strike this year (complicated).
I watched 17 Project and Seventeen debuted so I began listening to those babies.

BTS was still my Ultimate Bias group.

2016
I became AOA trash and they became a bias group, the first girl group as a bias group, and currently the only (unless you count Mamamoo who I'm also trash for, just not as much?)
I became Taeyeon trash (I had always thought she was pretty in SNSD, but when her Solo Debut happened I WAS DONE FOR).
NCT started debuting units, but honestly, I listened to The 7th Sense a few times, and Fire Truck a few times, and Chewing Gum maybe once and didn't have much of a impression of NCT (lmao look at me now).
I had started to feel a drift with BTS by the end of the year... Like I said, I'm picky with my music and their changing style in music... it wasn't the classic Bangtan style that I fell in love with. This kind of sent me into a depressive episode, because I loved the boys so much that I didn't want to feel disappointed when listening to their music. It had always been so healing for me...)
Seventeen became a bias group.
I got over my negative feelings (kind of) for Exo, and I began being able to listen to their music without wanting to sob again. It was nice :')
But even so,
BTS was still my Ultimate Bias group.

2017
The year of changes.
Exo returned as a bias group.
BTS... they're still a bias group, but... it's complicated. They aren't my Ultimate bias group anymore.
Started listening to Pentagon and died. They became a bias group.
Seventeen skyrocketed (like damn).
NCT ING CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND WRECKED ME (even more like damn).

NCT is my Ultimate bias group, with Seventeen kind of tied, sometimes and sometimes just barely below them.

So my current bias group listing now:
1. NCT
1/2. Seventeen
3. BTS
4. Pentagon
5. B.A.P
6. Exo

My bias list in each group, by group, not overall. That's a mess I'm not ready to get into just yet. Green highlighter means I consider them one of my main biases. Orange highlighter means they're wreckers, and plain text means they're not biases (but I still hella love them all).

And, lastly, the evolution of my Ultimate bias list.

2012
SHINee's Taemin. My first kpop bias ever. I still love him so much, and he holds a place in my heart that no one will ever be able to replace, even if I don't label him as my "ultimate" any longer.

2013
Luhan... Yeah.

2014
Still Luhan. Very much so... until October came around and my heart was broken ^^'
I had a hard time listening to Exo after that. A hard time listening to much of anything after that. It wasn't until BTS's Boy In Luv that I managed to listen to music more again. And even then, I was without an ultimate for a long while, because I couldn't move on from Luhan. In all honestly, I'm still not over that boy, and I still love and support him, but he's seperate to me now, from "Kpop". He's a seperate artist that I love and admire, and I know he wouldn't want to be simply known for Exo, and for being one of the three that left Exo. He'd want to be know for the music he does now, on his own. And that's the kind of love that I like to give him now. The kind of support. Him and Kris and Tao.
By the end of 2014, BTS had healed me enough, I was able to call Yoongi my bias, though I still refused to have an Ultimate.

2015
Yoongi continued being my bias, along with Jimin. And at some point in time, I suppose I was able to refer them as Ultimates. I don't know when it exactly happened. And then, Hobi joined the other two when Danger came out, and the three of them were my Ultimate Biases from that point on. Or well... Main biases. The position of Ultimate fluctuated between the three.

2016
Jimin was the "Ult" for the majority of this year. Yoongi dropped down for a bit (or at least I told myself he did)
I began feeling a rift between them and myself though, toward the end.

2017
At the beginning of the year, I admitted to Yoongi being the Ultimate once more, or rather, all along and my feelings for Jimin and Hobi fluctuated so much that it made things complicated, lmao.
March 23rd, the day I fell in love with Ten and NCT. I was in denial even then that BTS was no longer my bias group. I called Yoongi my Ultimate all the way up until maybe June or July? It was then that I finally admitted, Hoshi was Ultimate (made a blog post and everything).
And, of course my love for Ten is so strong, that I consider he and Hoshi both my Ultimates.
So I have two Ultimates now, that don't necessarily fluctaute, I just love them both so much, they're dead tied in my heart.

And that's it...

Sorry for the mess, lol.

Just wanted to share.

-Kai
