35 Questions for Writers [Reblog from Tumbleweed]

Another rare blog! A friend tagged me to do this so I will! I love these kinds of things, my first one aimed at writers. I don't have a lot of blog followers so the only person I can tag that may possibly be subscribed to my blogs is ChantiLeeLuLaLa, maybe even seamusmommy. If any of my blog followers do read this, then I'm tagging you lol! Thanks to Snowcakie for tagging me! Check out her profile!

1. How did you come up with your user name and what does it mean?

My username is actually an alternate name, the name I wanted to use and always use (WhisperingOnyx), was taken amazingly, so I use this when my original is taken. I just took Midnight cause it deals with night then found an alternate word, Onyx which is still dark, to go with it, something unique. It doesn't have meaning persay, but I'm the kind of person who likes certain words that pertain to certain things. Like, I love things that have to do with nighttime and with darkness...or mystery, almost gothic in the feeling. So moons, moonlight, stars, celestial things, I love that. I wanted my name to reflect mystery of some sense since I don't use my acutal name.

2. Which is your most subscribed to story?

Apparently "Take Me" with 364 subscribers, I'm truly stunned, I had no idea.

3. Why did you pick your user photo/thumbnail?

It's the subunit of my UB group, I always represent them, I'm a proud Triple S.

4. Who is your AFF bestie?

I don't believe in best friends of any type, so I don't have one. I have my friend ChantiLeeLuLaLa who introduced me to the site that I'm extremely close to. But I like to thing all my friends are good friends, otherwise I wouldn't be friends with them.

5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?

Currently it's "Mail Order Leo" by Ukissopme, I have literally read that at least 3-4 times, I love it that much. If you are a VIXX fan, a Leo bias, I highly recommend it! Also "Phantom Thief" by ChantiLeeLuLaLa for Shawols and Taemin biases! So damn good! I've read that one several times as well.

6. How many stories are you subscribed to?

Not too many, I only usually subscribe if they're still in progress, otherwise if I like them enough, I label them for rereading later. So currently I'm subscribed to 61, more than I thought, but about 95% are not active.

8. How many friends do you have?

105

9. Is there something you'd like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)

Not so much anymore, did it with my last Key visual (aka ) and it was not very well recieved, a deviation from my usual visuals and I think the fact that there's light seems to scare people off. It's about as daring as I go, I'm pretty generic when it comes to my writing for the most part.

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at on aff? Writing, graphic design (posters), replying to comments, updating regularly, etc..?

Updating regularly for sure. I used to be consistant, but since I hurt my hand, it got harder. I'm hoping to work more on that. My graphic skills are not wonderful and I don't have the paitence like I used to to make them. Maybe sometime I'll try, but it's not a priority.

11. How many subscribers do you have?

Unique: 1284

Total: 2538

12. How many stories have you posted online to this day (finished and unfinished)?

.As far as for K-Pop have 31 finished

I'm currently working on two series and one long form story.

My older stuff is hosted on another site for a completely different fandom and it's just a few of my stories. I had my own site a long time ago for my other fic, but it's gone.

13. How many stories do you have saved in your writing program?

On this laptop, just my kpop stuff, I have my other fic on some flash drives and on my pc.

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?

Most of the time they're in my head, but if it's really important or very detailed, I will write them out.

15. Have you ever co-authored a story?

For K-pop not yet, in my prior fandom absolutely!

16. How did you discover AFF?

My friend ChantiLeeLuLaLa told me about it!

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author on AFF?

Please, I wish! Not one bit, maybe someday I'll be a little better known.

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?

Nah, that's for famous authors/writers and as stated in the last question, I'm not.

19. Was there an AFF author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

Not really, once again ChantiLeeLuLaLa did kinda tell me about it, I guess you could say she convinced me to start posting.

20. How many karma points do you have?

3650

21. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

Write what you know!! That's so important, your expierences, what you love and like, what you know about, it will show and will help readers to trust you. Also, write what you love first and foremost, write for YOU, not for anyone else and not to get readers. If you love what you write, that's all that matters and if someone else likes it too, well that's just icing on the cake, if love what you're writing, it will show and readers will love it too! Don't let comments, feedback, upvotes and views dictate if you should or shouldn't keep writing. If it's in you to write, then write, write whatever you need to to make you happy. I can almost guareentee there will be someone else who will like it eventually and if not, that's ok, you didn't write it for them, you wrote it for you. Also, write whenever you can, practice, it'll only help you. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help if needed, if you have someone to help you, to be a sounding board, it's one of the best things you can have. Someone to help you see different views and angles of your plot and decisions. Be prepared for critism, construtive and otherwise (not everyone is nice). Hearing only good stuff will not help you, you need to know what you can work on so you can improve, it's hard to hear, but it will help heaps, esp if the person giving it is sincere and has your best interests at heart. Learn from your favorite writers, listen to their advice, chances are they've been doing it for awhile and if people are enjoying their stuff, it's usually for a reason. Learn as much as you can so you can be the best writer you can be!

22. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

I plot out my long form stories usually, I hand write it out first then just type it up, it works out easier for me, it's a story and outline at the same time, I cannot do long form stories without an outline. Short stories and visuals I'll usually just write off the top of my head, UNLESS it's a series, then I'll map it out. My current VIXX visual series I wrote all out cause they sort of connect and there has to be consistancies between each story, so I had to write it down, there's lots of details that I had to get streight. My SHINee series that I'm almost done with I didn't plot becaue I didn't know it would end up being a series, so I feel it's slightly less organized.

24. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, , etc..)

I tend to have a hard time with emotional scenes in some sense. I worry about being overdramatic and going over the top, which I hate. I hate to read things that are dramatic for drama sake and to get readers because that's what the writer thinks all readers want. Dialogue has always been hard for me, I've gotten better I think tho.

25. What story(s) are you working on now?

Currenly started my VIXX visual series, in the midst of finishing up my SHINee visual series and woking on my ongoing long form story.

26. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?

Not usually, I like to finish one thing before starting another. With my current series, I have one left to write, but I'm not in the middle of one. If I'm in the middle of a visual, I won't write another visual until that one is done. With long form it's a bit different, I can write visuals and short stories in between, but never another long form, one long form at a time. Visuals help me to take a break from my long form so I don't get burnt out with it, it has happened before.

27. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?

Nope, I wouldn't be able to follow that and I don't work well that way. I write when I'm in the mood, otherwise it ends up crappy. Not good because you should write everyday.

28. Do you think you've improved as a writer since you first started?

Oh yes, definately. My older stuff is a bit rough and immature, but I'm still proud of it, it got me to where I am, it's nice to go back and see the growth.

29. What is your favorite story that you've written?

As far as K-Pop my first long form "Sweet Daydream" is very special to me, I put my heart and soul into that story. I go back and read it sometimes because I love it, not because I wrote it, it seems like someone else wrote it. That story got me through some tough times. As far as visuals are concerned, it's hard to pick, the Jonghyun one that has the most subscribers I love and I love my first Key visual as well. Hard to pick just one.

30. What is your least favorite story that you've written?

Hmm, there is a visual I wrote for a friend I didn't know very well and it just lacked. It's better if I know the person well, I can capture them in the story better. I feel like it's lacking, she liked it, so that's all that matters tho,

31. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

Oh I dunno, people keep telling me to try to get published, but I'm a pessimst, so it'll probably never happen.

32. How many upvotes do you have?

Whoa, 97 once again, stunned.

33. What is the easiest thing about writing?

I don't know that there's anything easy about it persay. I love that I can come up with an idea and write it exactly how I want it, or even better. It comes easy for me to do, it's not a chore, I do it because I love it.

34. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Everything, plotting, planning, writing, writer's block, no motovation, no inspiration.

35. Why do you write?

Because it's inside me, I have to, it's my passion, it's what makes me happy. I think about writing all the time, my next plot, my next chapter, my next scene. Writing is my life, I love it.

Oh i love the advice to the new writers. Definitely you should just write. Of course the other people opinion is important but you shouldnt give up. I understand that the lack of feedback dont help at all. U have no idea if u are doing it right or wrong and its like " why am i even writing" but if it makes you feel better and you like doing it then why not?!
Ow...you express your feeling so well. Love it. Ahaha thats something im so bad at that i admire people who know how to do it, like Jonghyun for example. XD
I might steal this by the way...u.u
