Reasons why I never have a long lasting most fave side group #kpopdiscourse

LETS START THIS DISCOURSE.

Where 1). unusual angle 2). random discussion 3). honest opinion happens

Ok as you all know (or as you're about to find out because I'm telling you rn), my main group, my number one group, is the one and only, Super Junior.

Yes, 8 years and counting, no matter what happens, I'll be there.

I never have any problem with maintaining my loyalty to SJ, but I'm finding myself struggling with maintaining a second #sideho group where I can fall to comfortably when SJ is having their down season.

Ever since I started liking kpop, (aside from IU because she's like, an exception) I've never managed to keep my attention to my #sideho group for more than a year or two.

There was CNBlue, UKiss, quite a long dry spell when I decided to 'stop obsessing about kpop so much' (but failed, as apparent with me being here rn), f(x), BTS, Red Velvet, and Oh My Girl

Out of all those groups, I'm only currently obsessing with the last two.

Over the years I've found out a few reasons as to why I often fell "out of love" with groups I used to love quite a lot. And HERE THEY ARE:

1. (the main culprit) CHANGE OF MUSIC STYLE

Yes, simple as that. A change of music style is the biggest, most apparent reason for my case. The easiest example is well, Shinee and BTS.
I liked Shinee because of their massively jam-able title songs like Ring Ding Dong, Sherlock, Lucifer, and ever their early songs like Amigo and Shinee world. Very enjoyable, very catcy, very pop and dancable. But then they started to delve into a more electronic-ey, vibe-ish feel and suddenly I found myself not liking them so much anymore.

And BTS. hoooooooly this is one of the case that I still weep to when I remember how I fell in love with them during the Danger era and slowly fell out of love when I noticed they've decided to grow up and no longer produce youthful, silly, energetic jams like No More Dream.
I'm still waiting, you know, me and my friend are still waiting for them to suddenly drop a single that harkens back to the No More Dream era. But nope. They gonna make songs like 'whatever they're doing now' now. And suddenly I found myself not liking them so much anymore. I still like the boys. They're adorable and precious and everything, but I don't enjoy their music anymore. I mean, Spring Day is GREAT. But one song (well, three actually, with Am I Wrong and 21st Century Girl) in an album is not enough to lure me back in.

One of the groups that I kindda like (but not too much to don the title #sideho) that's in a precarious situation rn is Twice. Because I'm excited for Signal's release but I'm afraid it's too much of a style change that It'll hurt my very close minded, fragile mind lol.

2. Producing songs that don't suit my taste

(or just not up to par with their old stuffs in general)

*cough cough* Coloring Book *cough*

Yeah tbh I should learn not to keep my expectation too high because once a group breaks it, it's so easy for me to abandon ship and lose my interest.

But I know it's redeemable. Because Red Velvet managed to pull themselves out of my 'I'm starting to not like this group' rut (after my lukewarm reaction to the Velvet album and Russian Roulette mini album) with their super strong Rookie album.

So I still have my faith for OMG. Please do well in your repackage, please????

That's it actually LOL two reasons are not that much eh but what can you do, I'm not much of a variety girl, or a visual girl, or a dance girl or anything, I like groups mainly for their music. If they stop making musics that I like, I'll stop liking them.

The only exception for this rule is Super Junior and IU, because even if I don't really like Devil as an album and I'm not really liking Palette all that much (too emotional for me, I'm currently in an ice princess mode so I couldn't be bothered to emote), I've been together with them for too long to stop liking them just like that.

Please join the discourse if you want.

Tell me about your #sideho groups and whether or not you still like them (and why).

the main problem, and the ONLY PROBLEM I have with groups that cause me to fall in and out of the fandom is the fans themselves.
Like seriously
Look at what ARMYs have done to me
I'm seriously officially out of the fandom even though I'm going to continue listening to BTS but I literally made drastic measures to change my image on social media just so that people don't identify me as an ARMY anymore

The problem I have with #sideho groups is that after a while they actually overtake my top group lol. I cannot count the number of times that has happened. But I totally agree with you about the music. I like idols based on their variety shows as well, but the top deal is always their music. I was a fan of Got7 mostly for their B-side tracks. Their title tracks never really got to me, but their Btracks like Angel, Rewind, Prove it, Mayday DAMN those songs were good. But their last album did not live up to my expectations at all, Never ever was pretty good but the b-sides... just no. Maybe I was expecting too much based off of their previous albums. That's why I've put them aside from my top group (or it could be because of Monsta X who started out as the #sideho and then turned into my UB group xD) for now, I'm still watching out for them and hoping they have a stronger album with their next comeback.
I'm actually one the BTS fans who likes how BTS have changed up their style. Don't get me wrong, I followed the boys since 2013 and loved their early songs, but I'm liking how they mature with every comeback. And personally I like their new songs more.
Another group that have top notch songs are Day6, I'm not a huge fan but their songs are super good. I still haven't gotten over their The Day mini album. Probably one of the only albums I listened to over and over again and I still listen to now.

Well for sure you'll never get into Got7 LOL, they switch it up every comeback. Strangely enough, I think Got7 is the only group where I allowed and tolerate every comeback with new sounds.
