Fave KPOP Albums of ALL TIME #kpopdiscourse

LETS START THIS DISCOURSE.

Where 1). unusual angle 2). random discussion 3). honest opinion happens

Ok so I'm bored (and stressed) and I just want to talk about my fave all time kpop album of all time.
I think, after listening to /a few/ (I acknowledge that I'm not that good with keeping myself up to date with releases, I only listen to my fave groups' album) albums, I know what I like, and what I don't like. What I love is music is a mystery of the universe because one day i might like EDM and the next day I'll like ballads so this list will be very SUBJECTIVE.

I'll TRY to rank them but I'm bad at that so it'll be a rough ranking LOL. btw all the provided commentaries were done while I listened to the album :P

PS: I DON'T/CAN'T/UNABLE to listen to EVERY ALBUM OUT THERE. Besides, if the groups are not a fave of mine, I won't listen to their full album ever. So yes, everything here is my opinion and please don't get your twisted over it.

Featured album: || Red Velvet - Rookie || IU - Modern Times || BTS - Dark & Wild || Super Junior - Sorry Sorry || Oh My Girl - Pink Ocean

5. Red Velvet - Rookie

People say it took them a few listens before Rookie grew on them. NOT FOR ME BBY I was hooked from the first listen (I even like this song more than Russian Roulette SORRY). And album wise, I have to say the same thing. I've been waiting. WAITING. For a high Q RV album since the Red and finally they deliver with this album like YAAAS GURLS.

The theme is very cohesive (I feel it's like, retro, 90s-early 2000 pop that makes me nostalgic of my childhood somehow) and the songs are all very strong and unique by themselves, but combined into one album, it's like hOLY . And Body Talk. B O D Y T A L K.

Have you ever felt... this emotional reaction when you listen to a song? It's reserved to some very special songs and for me Body Talk is one of it. The tune, the instrumentals, thE EVERYTHING caused legit physical pain everytime I listen to it like bro. I would pay everything for them to change the timeline and make this into their promoted B side, I mean Little Little is pretty but Body Talk is in another league on its own.

Although... no matter how much I love this album... I just hoped they would've cut Last Love. I mean it's a really beautiful ballad but it just clashed so hard with the rest of the album's theme that it felt so out of place. IF. IF THEY CUT LAST LOVE, this album would've ranked higher in the list if not taking second place. They should've ended the album with Body Talk and make it the "sad song" of the album and left us feeling 'the frick frack diddly crack did they just do to me'.

4. BTS - Dark & Wild

I know I wanted to put BTS in this list. Originally I was like "oh, HYYH pt.1" but not even a second later my brain was like "No you fart, Dark & Wild"

And yes. I think this album is the strongest BTS album TO DATE (not helping that Danger is like, my fave promoted single from them lol). But this album is so fun! and emotional! IDK it feels like... it feels very... endearingly genuine. One that you can laugh with and then be er punched by songs like Let Me Know or Rain. VERY versatile mood wise, but the setlist placement is made so that the album takes you on a FUN journey. PS: Look Here is the iest song ever.

I don't really like the outro of this album as it's quite forgettable but you know what, after 12 bomb songs I think I'll let that slide.

TBH I miss this era of BTS. I knoww they gotta grow and mature and I'm a-okay with that but I miss this juvenile fun and songs that ((don't sound like they can be sung by 1D or JB)).

3. Oh My Girl - Pink Ocean (Repackaged)

Windy Day is legit my fave song from 2016. If I have to pick the most beautiful song, this is a strong contender. I have this playlist titled "that springy gait in your steps" where I compile songs that make me feel 'in love' and this song is repeated like, 5 times in it. And don't even talk to me about One Step, Two Steps. Jinyoung. MAKE MORE SONGS FOR OMG. I BEG YOU. PLEASE.

But yes I think this album is very strong (pardon my layman music terms I'm not a musician + I forgot all my musical trainings already) as in there's so many varieties in it. There's no 'sad song' but you know what it's a spring album and I think this is the perfect for it. The composition of the song moods are also very nicely balanced, as in it doesn't take you on an exhausting rollercoaster of emotion, but they're all still unique from one to the other. There's upbeat high quality title songs (Liar Liar, Windy Day), slower songs (Stupid in Love, B612), epic B side (one step, two steps), feel good song (I found love), black sheep song that will leave you gasping for air without you knowing it happened (Knock Knock holy this song is amazing). And I love EVERY SINGLE SONGS in this album, which is to say, a rare thing to happen to me.

Which is why I'm super disappointed with Coloring Book's album because istg all songs in it sounds exactly the same. Oh My Girl I expected much much more from you than that...

2. Super Junior - Sorry Sorry

I'm sorry I'm a very sentimental person so uh

I can't ever part with my first ever Kpop album ok. BESIDES, SORRY SORRY IS A VERY VERY VERY SOLID ALBUM. All songs in it (that's not the promoted singles) deserved to be promoted too LOL. The theme of the album is very SLEEK and all songs fit in the album, no need to kick anyone out. Sleeper hits like Monster, Why I Like You, Reset (basically everything) will catch you off guard please give old Super Junior a shot they make really good albums I promise.

If I have to nitpick, I think this album can benefit from one 'upbeat' song. Because this album is preeeetty mellow. Yes there's Angela, Happy Together, and Shining Star for your daily dose of that Super Junior happy songs^tm but well... I guess it will topple the balance of the album so I can't fret too much :P

But honestly It's You was the song that got me into Kpop and I've listened to the blasphemously repetitive Sorry Sorry for probably 500 times in the span of 3 months so whatever you say to me, I will still love this album.

1. IU - Modern Times

This album. This album is the album that made me even want to make this list in the first place. The album that made me listen to ALBUMS by other artists other than Super Junior. THE ALBUM THAT MADE ME FELL HEAD OVER HEELS FOR LEE FRIGGIN JIEUN. (holy I haven't listened to the full album in so long this is a nostalgia bomb I used to listen to this album every weekend)

Songs = love them all. Like seriously, usually I will skip songs or delete them from my phone but this? none. nope. no. nada. Perfect. Variety = Check (tbh I'm still not ready everytime Bad Day and Voicemail comes in the album it's like classic ballad angst bombs but they somehow FIT with the retro jazzy theme of the album). Emotion = Yes, too much. Theme = coherent as . COHERENT! But the songs are all so DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER! (take note Coloring Book). And she features so many different artists in it that you don't get fatigued by hearing her voice LOL. The song placement is like... insane. Please don't shuffle through this album, listen from Love of B to Voicemail in their intended order and bro. You're in for a journey. But maybe afterwards you want to listen to something fun because Voicemail is a masochist's daydream like man. That song destroyed me.

Love of B, 50cm, Everyone has secrets, Bad Day, Voicemail, Obliviate... I can't choose a favourite song for how SOLID this album is. I can't choose just one song, I gotta bring up the whole friggin album. Too good. I can't. A masterpiece. Number one in my heart that's it goodbye goodnight.

SPECIAL SHOUTOUT:

Albums that I love but I only listen to on special occasions (most likely when I draw/edit because #vibe)

- Casker - Tender (If you love soft electro (?) K-Indie, please check them out)
- Super Junior - Don't Don (for some reason I find this album to be even more mellow than Sorry Sorry, perfect for editing #vibe)
- Red Velvet - the Red (I almost put this into the list but after further deliberation didn't. But I still love it so I'll just chuck it here LOL)

holy this is getting so long I GUESS THAT'S IT THEN THAT'S ALL FOR MY RAMBLES GBYE.

If i had to put a top 5 full studio album that are masterpieces my list would look somewhat like this:
5) TRBL - DEAN
4) Palette - IU (I would've put Chatshire, but this album beat it by a margin)
3) Over The Top - INFINITE
2) Fact & Fiction - BEAST
1) Pink Tape - f(x)

Somehow... It's kinda hard for me to form a lisF coz I listen to loads of full albums coz I'm a er for b-sides.

Honorable mentions would be:
- Modern Times - IU
- The Red - RV
- Going Seventeen - Seventeen
- Exodus - exo (El dorado is amazing)
- Pink Ocean - OMG
- Love - Girls Day
- Mamacita - Suju
- Skool Luv Affair - BTS (Tomorrow being in this album is a huge contribution)

Maybe I should make a blogspost too xD this is getting long
