appearance » Johanna isn't ugly, but often she feels a little plain compared to some of the other contestants. She's never really known what to do with makeup or fashion or how to style her hair, preferring to keep it in a simple straight bob that needs little maintainance to look put together, and wears only the barest bit of bb cream concealer unless a stylist is infolved.

style » Given a choice, Johanna will always opt for comfort over style. She has a smart casual style, mostly wearing either neat chiffon blouses and trousers or simple sweaters and pants if it's an off day. She doesn't like bright colours very much and prefers for more muted styles so as not to stand out too much. Johanna and dresses and heels do not go very well together, she would likely fall over if made to wear heels and would be very uncomfortable in short or tight dresses. She would much prefer to do the rose ceremony in a black blouse and trousers instead of a little black dress.

personality » First and foremost, Johanna is extremely intelligent, there is really now ay around that. In the way she talks and the way she thinks it is apparent that this woman has an undeniable intellect. Combined with that is a general all-consuming thirst for knowledge. Johanna wants to know everything the world has to offer, and whenever she meets someone new the first order of business for her is to find out what they can teach her. It doesn't have to be academic, just learning about another culture, another way of life, or sometimes just opinions she's never heard before. Johanna is always ready to listen, and always tries to be neutral and unbiased. Even if she does not agree with what she is being told, she knows the value of someone else's opinions. Even if she does not agree with them, Johanna firlmly believes in the value of understanding another point of view, and she does not judge someone for the views they have. She only judges someone for their actions.

Johanna is not naturally good with socializing. In a group of people it is easy to lose track of her because she doesn't really call attention to herself. She's mature and grounded and lacks the need for attention within group dynamics. Oftentimes Johanna is content to stand a little back and listen, and only add to a conversation if she truly has something of value to say, or alternative more questions to ask. One on one she's a lot more charming and memorable, though potentially overbearing when it comes to her thirst for knowledge and continuous questions. She's not good at picking up social cues asking her to stop talking, or stop asking questionsm, and unless directly asked to stop she won't pick up on those hints. When someone gets her talking about something she is passionate about, such as astrophysics, science in general, music, or philosphy, it can be hard to get her to stop as well. Johanna loves talking about these things, she loves talking about things she perceives as valuable and worth talking about, and as such she will talk someone's ear off. A romantic date turns into a discussion about sociopolitical viewpoints or a lecture about the theoretical formation of the galaxy in a heartbeat.

While Johanna is certainly free in discussing anything from her research to her love for music to her liberal political ideas, she's a lot more closed about her personal life and her feelings. She doesn't like letting people too close until she's certain that she trusts them. Within Johanna is fraught with doubts and insecurities and uncertainty, mostly partaining to her future. Johanna loves science, she loves astrophysics, but she also cannot help but feel a tug towards music. A big part of her wants to create instead of examine, and loves the feeling of singing even if the performance aspect is terrifying. But Johanna has never been particularly brave and has always been weighed down by her own fears. As much as she preaches freedom of expression and openmindedness, Johanna has always followed the safe path for herself in her own life. While her curiosity and thirst for knowledge might have made her box a large one, she still prefers to remain inside of it. She will need to find the bravery within herself to trandscend the limited version of herself and become what she has the potential to be, or otherwise remain stuck in her own cage of herself.
 

BACKGROUND » Johanna is part Korean and part German, with a Korean father and a German moher, and she used to travel back and forth between the two countries as her father worked as a liaison for the German and Korean branches of a company. She lived some years in one country, then moved back to the other for a few years, etc. While the constant uprooting of her life made her prone to loneliness and lack of friends, Johanna instead turned to her studies to keep her busy. Going to school in the two different countries also helped broaden her cultural horizons, and she appreciates that part of her upbringing, though it did her no favours on the social department.

Then, when she was 16, her parents devorced and she stayed with her father in Korea while her mother returned to Germany. Around this time she started to get seriously interested in music as an artform, and especially hip hop and indy songs which use their lyrics in an interesting way. Johanna also discovered the joy of singing around this time, she had gotten lessons in piano before, as is almost a requirement in most Korean households, but she never actually thought to use her voice. Johanna found that singing just felt really good, and served as a stress relief as well, and loved doing it. At one point she actually considered trying to become a singer, but she always thought it would be a waste of her intellect not to pursue something academic and scientific.

With her excellent academic record she managed to snag a coveted spot at Seoul University in the department of physics and astronomy. She is happy studying astrophysics, but there's still this soubt , wouldn't she be happier practicing music instead? She's about to start the last year of her bachelor, and she feels like when she graduates and starts working she'll have missed her chance. That's it, the chance for her to do anything with music will be gone and she'd just focus on her work. She applied for this show less for dating and more because she wants to delay the inevitable. If she participates in the program she'd extend her bachelor by a semester which means half a year longer to decide on if she wants to risk it to pursue pusic instead, if she would be selfish enough to choose that instead of what her contributions might mean to her field.

• Johanna's really messy, in a way that it looks like something exploded around her but she knows exactly where everything is.
• When Johanna gets drunk she starts firing off scientific fun facts and when she gets drunker she gets philosophical and then when she gets her drunkest she gets existential crisis.
• Johanna cannot cook at all and usually either goes to eat out, eats at the dorm cafetaria, or makes ramyun.
• Johanna likes dissecting songs that she really likes, examining how the instrumentals work with the vocals, pinpointing where the song raises in intensity, or slowing down. It might seem like she takes away the enjoyment of listening to music, but for her the understanding is half of the fun.
• Johanna's never dated anyone due to her reluctance to trust and her natural unsociability. She would be adamant that she trusts and has strong feelings for someone before attempting anything. She's very cautious that way.

the reason you applied » Johanna mostly applied to extend the time she has until she graduates her bachelor in order to create more time for her to make a decision regarding her future: music or science. However, she does also think that it would be nice to find love, something she has been unsuccessful in so far in her life.

strategy »  Johanna has no idea what her strategy is. She is not very good at standing out to begin with, and she's not good at feelings and thinking strategically about anything involving human interaction. She will simply try and be herself, and will most certainly lose herself in trying to learn from both the bachelors and the contestants and their life experience. Even if she might not be romantically interested in a bachelor, she would still want to talk to them and hear them out and discuss.

The bachelors » Even though your character can only go for three guys, she'll have to live with each of the bachelors and get along (or not) with them. What does she think of them and how will their relationship be like? (Feel free to add other contestants etc as well). You can also add who she thinks might be a hidden card.

• namjoon » *hidden carc* Namjoon's he one Johannaconnects to the most, both being intelligent and interested in music. She is actually familiar with some of his work before the show, and is excited to meet him and discuss it. Rap, in and of itself, interests her and she has never gotten the opportunity to actually speak to a rapper.
• yoongi » Yoongi intimidates Johanna, but she does find him very interesting, and enjoys discussing music with him. 
• seokjin » While they do not have a lot in common, Johanna does enjoy Seokjin's company. For one, the fact that they have little in common means that there is more for her to learn. She knows nothing about fashion and is very interested in the creative aspect. She also appreciates his maturity.
• hoseok » While, as with everyone, there are new things Johanna can talk to Hoseok about that she didn't know before, such as dancing, she isn't very fond of his energetic personality. She does best with people who are mature and grounded like she is, not energetic and immature.
• jimin » Johanna can be very dense when it comes to Jimin's flirting, sometimes not understanding when she gets flirted with, and then getting embarrassed when she does understand. 
• taehyung » Taehyung's odd, and while that is interesting, Johanna does wish that he'd sit still and be serious sometimes so she could have an actual conversation with him.
• JUNGKOOK » *hidden card* Johanna thinks that Jungkook is a sweetheart. She is very curious why he joined the program, and will ask him about it if she ever has the chance.

• "Annyeonghasaeyo, my name is Baek Johanna, I am 22 years old, and I am a physics student at Seoul University."

"How come you applied for this show? Why are you still single? Do you think you can fall in love within 10 weeks?"

• "I applied for this show because I've never had any luck in love, and I was nervous about finishing my bachelor. I thought that this show might be able to help me with both counts. I've never fallen in love before, I have no idea, but I look forward to finding out."

"What would you say is your biggest strenght? How do you differ from the other contestants?"

• "My biggest strength is my brain. I'm very smart, I know this, and any challenge where I can make use of my intellect is one where I might do well. I also don't think there is another astrophysics student on the show so that might set me apart? That aside I am also good with music and I do hope I have the opportunity to show that as well."

"Would you also be with the bachelor you chose in the end if he wasn't a hidden card?"

• "I would! I don't think I would have any problem with money in my future, provided I can find work as an astrophysicist, so none of that is needed. I'd just like to meet someone sweet and interesting who might be able to keep up with me."

"What is your dream for the future? Is there anything you want to do? Maybe with the bachelor together?"

• "I'm not certain, honestly. Probably I will graduate and find work in the field of astrophysics and hopefully I will be able to truly mean something for my field. But I would also like to try music. I am really not certain, and maybe my experience on this show will afford me some answers?"
