personality

— Bitna is small in stature but there lies a distinct strength within her. Bitna stands up for what she thinks is right, and she says things the way she sees them. She has no time for pleasantries or soothing egos, she is incredibly blunt and not afraid to tell others exactly what she thinks. She doesn't care if she's talking to someone who could easily kill her, or her boss, or anyone who might be dangerous. She recklessly bold and obstinate in her views and her values. Bitna has been known to kick very powerful people out of her clinic if they threaten her or in any way stand in the way of her healing, and that includes members of the Thorn Roses, and she has made many an enemy in doing so. Bitna stubborn believes in doing what she feels is right, and she has the bravery to stand up for it to anyone. She has her share of sarcasm too, she really does not put up with any bull in her clinic.  might get her killed someday but it hasn't yet so she will continue.)

She sees herself and her clinic as true neutral ground. Bitna takes her vows as nurse very seriously. She will help anyone who needs helping with no regard for her own judgements. That is not her call. Now, mind, that does not mean that she will not voice her opinions while helping them, but she will do so anyway. Point a gun at her face and tell her to stop trying to save the life of your rival and she will pointedly ignore you and keep going. It is not up to her to play judge on who deserves saving or not, and she will stand up for her right of her practice. 

Bitna is clever and quick on her feet, able to make snap judgements and decisions when necessary. Bitna knows an opportunity when she sees one and paired with her ambition this makes her a force to be reckoned with. Her ambition does not come in the form of wanting riches or power, Bitna's ambition is simply to make a difference. To make the world a better place. If she has to put part of her morality aside for that then she will. If she has to treat gang members in order to treat the poorest of civilians then she will. She is able to recognize it as a means to an end. That is always Bitna's philosophy. It does not matter how you get there, only that you do. The same applies to her healing. She can be unconventional and ignore established medical protocols if she rules it as a better chance to save a life. She's quick on her feet and has become desensitised to any kind of violence. See someone shot in front of her? Bitna will simply blink once and get to work. Her pragamtism serves her well and she will not freeze when confronted by trauma, simply push through it. 

Btina has not made many friends, especially not since she stared her clinic. She can be brusque and downright rude and dismissive especially when dealing with gang members. She doesn't make it a secret that she does not approve of their violence. It is very hard to get close to her, Bitna is married to her job and hardly ever takes time for herself. Work is all there is to her life right now, and she's permanently under pressure and focused, even to the point of looking erratic. She can use a break but too stubborn to allow herself one. A tsundere at heart, Bitna doesn't want to let anyone close. After all, she's a the center of gang activity, letting people close means letting unsavory people close and she does not want that. However, nobody can continue without someone to lean on. Bitna needs someone to remind her that this is her life, and she doesn't just live to serve the neighbourhood. She needs someone to lean on and to support her, she needs a friend. And that someone might come from an unexpected place.


 

background

— Bitna has always been familiar with crime. She's from one of the seediest parts of Seoul, the neighbourshoods you only live because there's nowhere else. An unfortunate accident during a liquidation attempt killed her mother when she was 3 and left her raised by her father alone, who didn't have much income to speak of. He worked multiple jobs to pay rent and Bitna grew up knowing what poverty was. She grew up friends with the kids in the neighbourhood and everyone had their connection to crime in some way. Her best friend's brother was in jail for arson, another friend's dad was an underling in the mafia, etc. Sometimes a dad somewhere wouldn't come home. Sometimes a shot rang out in the streets and you knew not to go outside. Sometimes you just kept your head down and kept walking while someone got beat up in an alley. You had to do what you could to survive.

Bitna's singular goal had always been to get out of there. To find her way into a world where she ddn't have to continuously be scared for her own safety. She worked hard in school aiming for those scholarships and she managed to get into a college studying nursing. It wasn't one of the big colleges but Bitna didn't mind. It offered her a full scholarship and she was in no position to turn that down. She was grateful and had great ambitions. Studious and motivated as she was, Bitna worked twice or three times has hard as the others around her to prove that she was worthy of this opportunity. That she would do right by it. In the end it did not matter much, who got what job depended more on connections than skill. Even though Bitna graduated with honours, the only clinic who would hire her was, ironically, servicing the very neighbourhood she had tried so hard to get out of.

The work she did there mostly dealt with the same violence she wanted so hard to get away from. Gang violence. Mafia violence. But she knew many of the victims would not be able to find help. They wouldn't be able to afford the fees associated with the treatment. Then one evening she was on her way to work when a desperate -spy- saw her scrubs and kidnapped her, none too gently forcing her to save -the assassin-. Bitna wasn't happy, but she went to work and managed to save her life.

Bitna saw the Thorn Roses as an opportunity. She had been unhappy in her clinic, not only had she not been able to escape the place where she was born, but she felt like she wasn't even able to help those who deserved it. Bitna was done with just keeping her head down and trying to survive. Bitna wanted to make a difference. So Bitna made a deal with the Roses. She would provide medical help to them whenever they needed it, if they'd fund an illegal clinic in the neighbourhood for her. She quit her job and opened this 'clinic' where she helped anyone who needed helping. Bitna has pronounced her clinic neutral territory. She will help whoever needs it, even if it's rivals or enemies of the Thorns. That is the deal. Their own personal nurse as long as she is allowed to help anyone else who needs it and do not interfere with her work.

— Bitna loves a good cup of green tea, it's what she used to calm down and unwind when things become too stressful.

— Bitna's someone who wants to be positive, who wants to see things from the bright side and see the good in people, but she uses negativity and cynicism as a defense to not start caring about anyone.

— Bitna resents receiving flowers as gifts. Why would one gift something that will only wilt and die? Left on the plant the flower will continue to bloom and serve its purpose, but in admiring its beauty you pluck it and deprive it of what it was meant to do. It's such a small silly thing but she hates it so much.

— Bitna and alcohol are well acquainted. Bitna uses alcohol as a means to forget and push things away as well. At the end of a h ard day, especially when those of dubious morality are involved, she will reach for the bottle of soju. Bitna is a bitter drunk. 

— While Bitna is helping people, she has never been this unhappy in her life. She is frustrated constantly surrounded by crime and uses her absolutes to keep everyone away. She's happiest when she's helping those she deems deserve it, but one can still not call her truly happy. She's too lonely for that.

— Bitna often sleeps at the clinic, after all night is when most of her patience come in. It's not uncommon to find her sleeping in her chair, head on her desk, in the early morning after a busy night. She never gets as much sleep as she should.

— Bitna's blood is half coffee at this point. It's how she keeps herself awake at night. She doesn't like coffee, she hates the taste, but the caffeine does its job.

— Bitna likes children. She takes comfort from their innocense. There is nothing that will make her angrier than those who corrupt that.

— Bitna hates weapons and has never used one in her life. 

— Bitna is a terrible cook and most of the time she simply eats instant ramen or orders food. She forgets to eat a lot of the time too, especially when the clinic is busy.

— Bitna feeds stray cats outside of her clinic and sometimes they come inside too. She treats them for fleas and worms and tries to look out for them.

— When there's no one in her clinic and she has nothing to do she can often be seen reading bad romance novels. Bitna is a secret romantic but she will deny it at every turn. She pretends she just reads them to mock them and pass the time. 

— Bitna loves the night sky. She takes comfort just staring up at it on a clear night. It makes her feel small and inconsequential but she takes comfort in that. 
 

strengths + weaknesses

— Bitna's main strength is, of course, her medical skills. She's a damned good nurse, trained for emergencies and trauma, and has picked up some skills in her years working the clinic that would belong to a physician. It used to be that Bitna had to keep the internet and medical textbooks close for the most risky proceidures, ones that the doctors would perform, but she has learned much since then.

— Another strenght is Bitna's bravery and her conviction. She is a tree who will not bend under any circuimstances. Bitna holds strong or she breaks, those are the only options. She is not afraid what she thinks and stands up for what she believes in.

— Another great strength of Bitna's is her reliability. Bitna has become used to violence and adversity and will not blanche, she will simply push up her sleeves and get to work. Of course this comes with a negative side as well, she's almost dismissive of people's harships because she's become so desensitised to anything. Bitna is entirely out of tune with her own feelings, she simply does what has to be done and tries not to think about it. She can appear like a prickly robot at times, devoid of emotion, because she doesn't let herself care. More on this below.

— Bitna's great weakness is her disregard for her own well-being. She is brave to stand up for her convictions, but she is also foolhardy in doing so. She does not pay mind to who she says things to and what enemies she makes. She might have to realize that she cannot help anyone if she's dead. 

— Another weakness is Bitna's stubborn clinging to relying on herself and herself alone. Nobody can keep going without a friend but Bitna stubbornly tries to. She's afraid of getting close to someone of dubious morality because it might compromise herown values, and because she's afraid that it will show that even those who do bad thing are people. Bitna is fine seeing things in absolutes. Goods and bads. She doesn't want anything to mix the whites and blacks into a mess of greys.

Bitna loves her father dearly. She used part of the money for the clinic to pay for rent for his apartment in a much better part of the city, though he still works to pay for other amenities so she can use as much of the money as possible for medicine and other costs. She hardly ever has time to see him but she is glad to know that he's doing well and staying out of the mess that is her life. He doesn't know what Bitna actually does for a living, he thinks she still works in the clinic.

The one Bitna feels the most for. She realized it's unfair how the Apprentice got into her situation, and Bitna knows a thing or two to put your morals aside to survive. She's the only one of the Thorn Roses Bitna might actually like and would willingly help.

who are you?

"Nam Bitna," she says dismissively while going through some files on her computer. "Also busy. Tell me what you need or leave."

Should we have any concerns that you will hurt the president? She actually looks at you now, expression incredulous. "I'm a nurse," she enunciates each word as if to a slow child. "I do the opposite of hurting people. Why are you even talking to me, bother one of the others instead."

— "I'm going to throw you out of the clinic if you keep asking stupid questions like that."

Could you please share why you betrayed the people of korea and joined the mafia?

— She actually looks angry now. "You dare accuse me of betraying the people of Korea? ME? Go outside and take a look around and tell me who failed the people of Korea? Who failed the ones living in the slums? It certainly isn't me, you can look at your own dear president for that."

How do you feel about working with the bangtan boys?

— "I don't know who they are and I don't care. If they need medical attention I will help them, I don't want to know anything else they do."

will you swear to complete this mission to your full potential?

— She looks at you pointedly, staring you down and you forget for a moment that she's tiny. "I have always upheld my pledge as a nurse to aid anyone who comes to me regardless of who they are. Now leave, I have work to do."
 

last comment I hope you like her, she's a bit more antagonistic than you might have had in mind but I had to find a reason for someone who is a decent person to set asice her own morality to join a gang. thus Bitna was made. Hopefully any of her thoughts on the boys sparks some ideas for love interest, though really with her sense of morality there would have to be some hidden decency in them. A thorn love interest works too in any case.
