APPEARANCE : Shin Minhyuk is inarguably gorgeous. Not exactly in that squeecky clean kpop visual kind of way, but in this grittier on legs kind of way. Shin Minhyuk is the walking embodyment of appeal, and he knows it. He knows he's hot and he loves every bit of it, to the point where you can wonder if he's hot because he believes or, or if he believes he's hot because he is. Chicken or the egg, nobody knows. Even if you'd put the guy in a harmless sweater with soft makeup for a wholesome photoshoot he's still the one who stands out for being rude af. Honestly he could wear a tiger onesy and still look y, it's not what he's wearing it's intrinsically and fundamentally HIM.

PERSONALITY :

Minhyuk is great, absolutely fantastic. Or at least that's what Minhyuk thinks of himself. You can rest assured that Shin Minhyuk does not have any insecurity problems, if anything he has over-security problems. Quite frankly the guy is probably in love with himself. He loves talking about himself and he loves people fawning over him. An attention through and through, Minhyuk lives for the fame, the fans, the stage, all of it. The more people praise his name the happier he will be. He knows he's hot, knows he's gorgeous, and is more than willing to body roll on stage to remind everyone of it. Minhyuk lives and breathes appeal. And it doesn't help that he's really flirty. It's a part of loving that attention, Minhyuk flirts with basically everything that moves. Women? Hell yes. Men? If the fancy strikes him why not?

He can be nightmare to work with, honestly. Minhyuk doesn't like hard work, at least not when it doesn't interest him. Give him a y song and hell yeah he is here 100%. Give him an aegyo song or any other work activity that doesn't immadiately grab him and you'll lose him fast. He'll start getting bored, and when Minhyuk is bored he makes trouble. Rebellious in nature, Minhyuk isn't the best when it comes to authority and tends to just do whatever he wants to do, and that often means slacking off, sneaking off to have fun or get drinks with his friends, or just plain causing trouble wherever he goes. The thing is Minhyuk has never truly gotten into for his troublemaking. Most of the time he's let off the hook because he's handsome, or because he'd pinned it on someone else, or simply because he didn't care anough for a lecture to hit home. Minhyuk hasn't had a taste of true consequences of his actions so he just does whatever he fancies.

Minhyuk is very stubborn, especially when it comes to seeming weak. He hates the idea of seeming weak so he brushes off all weakness. He pretends he's not hurt about his familiy disowning him, or about having nowhere to go for the holidays, or about nobody trusting him to do things on his own (even when it's warranted). He just brushes it off and keeps on his easy going face like nothing in the world bothers him. Party it's true, and partly it's a facade.

Minhyuk and being serious just generally don't go together. On the one hand, when he's not actually inviting the wrath of everyone involved he keeps the mood light. Always ready with a quip or a joke when things get tense, Minhyuk's carefree nature does come in handy. Unfortunately half the time the quips and jokes help alleviate tension, and half the time they just make things worse. 

On the positive side, he's ever the social butterfly. Minhyuk loves meeting new people and chatting (especially about himself) and making acquaintainces everywhere. Now they don't usually grow past just being acquaintainces, Minhyuk is not so good at making actual friends, but he loves the meeting and chatting part.  His natural wit also helps with that, he's very good at making quick jokes and lightening the mood in a heartbeat. He can also be really nosy, always curious about what's going on in people's lives and ever ready to meddle. Especially when it's unwanted. He means well, most of the time, just trying to help in his own flippant way, but the end result is usually not positive. But he doesn't care, he's easy going to a fault, he just coasts from day to day and doesn't really concern himself with things like responsibilities.

When Minhyuk does manage to put effort into something the result is usually fantastic. He's very creative and can think of great ideas. The problem is actually getting him to apply that creativity to something. If one manages to motivate Minhyuk, amazing things happen, just good luck getting there.

 

BACKGROUND : 

Growing up Minhyuk had it easy. His family is fairly well off, in the upper middle class, and he had a cushy life before moving to Seoul. He started rapping when he was young because it seemed cool at the time, Minhyuk had always been attracted to the self-congratulatory and boastful side of hip hop. To the dismay of his parents, Minhyuk always knew that things like university and regular jobs weren't for him. He was made for the stage, for rap, was everyone else blind that they couldn't see that? 

Minhyuk had a bit of a scandalous teenage life. Instead of studying, Minhyuk snuck out of the house a lot to go to clubs with his friends, to rap, and yes underage drinking. He was also involved in the less savory group of friends in high school, he was kind of a bully honestly. Then when he was 16 he dropped out of high school to pursue rapping. His parents were livid when they heard. There was already a lot of tension between them due to the whole not studying and being a bit of a delinquent thing, but they absolutely had it when he announced he was dropping out and basically disowned him and kicked him out of the house. Minhyuk didn't mind, he was going to Seoul anyway. Screw boring Busan, he wasn't going to find his fame here, Seoul was where he had to go.

So Minhyuk went to Seoul with the meager money he had and stayed at hostels while he worked 3 menial jobs, and later moved into a dingy tiny apartment shared with 3 other guys while he tried to get a break with rapping. After a year (and various different jobs, Minhyuk is not very reliable) of this Minhyuk managed to get into a crew and though he still lived in a dingy lil room in a much too busy apartment working jobs he hated and periodically got fired from, he now had a group of likeminded artists to collaborate with. He won some rap competitions he entered too and became known in the underground, even if it was just as that flirty with the sick flow who was great if he managed to show up in time.

He was gathering more and more reknown in the underground until this year he finally managed to get into SMTM5. He made it quite far, 6 rounds in Team Illionaire before Minhyuk was eliminated. Fortunately for him there'd been an employee of Lemon Entertainment backstage at the time who'd recognized Minhyuk's potential. She invited him for an audition and, having no better prospects, Minhyuk accepted. He auditioned and got signed as a trainee.

TRIVIA :
▷ the managers and/or leaders have told him numerous times to stop flirting with female idols in case fans get the wrong idea but does he listen? Of course not.

▷ he's a morning person in the most chipper and annoying way. it's like nothing ever gets this guy down, not even fatigue.

▷ he can also play piano but he's not as good at is as he is at playing guitar, mostly because he doesn't like it much so he's not invested.

▷ can drive but should absolutely not be trusted behind a wheel. speeds like there's a pregnant woman giving birth in the car.

▷ he has never dated, but he's been with multiple girls in this life, before he started idol training, naturally.

▷ has experience as a waitor, barman, and barista, the jobs he had when he first arrived in Seoul, but he'd be damned if anyone found out.

▷ he doesn't bring up the time he spent dirt poor working three jobs. whenever he talks about his life before being a trainee he always makes it seem like he got into SMTM5 right after he moved to Seoul. he's really embarrassed about that interim year.

▷  generally doesn't talk about his family ever. when others are thanking their family for an award or something like it, he'll just stay quiet on the side and for once blend into the background just a little. of course if it's pointed out he'll laugh it off like it's no big deal but it is. being disowned really did hurt him even though he'll pretend it didn't.
 

TRAINEE LIFE

 

YEARS OF TRAINING : 5 months at Lemon Entertainment.

TRAINEE EXPERIENCE : Trainee life was very different to anything else. It was so rigidly structured and really hard work, two things that do not come naturally to Shin Minhyuk. Indeed he did get into trouble quite a bit for skipping lessons and going out drinking with his dancing buddies, but he was fairly natural at dance classes and didn't need much in terms of rap classes. Minhyuk got along with some of the trainees and not with others. Basically as long as nobody tries to control him and order him around and doesn't get too irritated at, well, his everything, then Minhyuk can get along with them just fine. No deep friendships were formed but Shin Minhyuk has never made a deep friendship with anyone in his life so that was normal. He's still a bit surprised they put him in the group, he knows that he's been a handful and has gotten into a lot of trouble before. He supposes that they find him less trouble than he's worth and he's okay with that.

SCHOOL LIFE : Minhyuk had dropped out of high school to go to Seoul and follow his deam, and he's not smart enough to go to college, so in theory he had all the time to focus on training. Of course he didn't because he's Shin Minhyuk, so half the time he was unfocused and lazing about, or just not present, but in theory he had time. Minhyuk isn't very smart, he's honestly pretty stupid. He always did bad in school and he's not very good at anything that requires schooling. Ask him questions about math, sciences, literature, etc. and you can get some pretty dumb answers. He just doesn't really care about anything intellectual.

CURRENT LIFESTYLE : Minhyuk lives in the dorm with the other trainees doing as he does. He's gone many a night and the trainees at his dorm are fairly used to him stumbling in drunk in the middle of the night and falling into bed, only to wake up and see him chipper as can be drinking hot chocolate in the morning. He goes to most lessons but he's not really paying attention when he thinks he got it. He works to master what he's though and when he has he just doesn't care anymore. He's a bit notorious as one of those people who is naturally really good at most things he attempts, music wise, but does not deserve any of it due to his bad personality. It's quite unfair.

No comment. Minhyuk has zero interest in reconnecting with his parents. He's pissed that they'd just push him aside like that and leave him without any kind of safety net when he took a route in his life that they didn't approve of. He basically blames him for that year he spent in poverty overworked and feeling like . Minhyuk didn't leave them any means of getting into contact with him, and unbeknownst to him they did try to find him. They might try to reach out to him once they get more famous and they get word of it, but Minhyuk would not be receptible to this.

FRIENDS :
▷ Drinking buddy— Kwon Jaekwon (21) | rapper | Forgiving, tenacious, sarcastic, witty  | Jaekwon is one of the first acquaintainces that Minhyuk made in the underground and he's also on Minhyuk's rap crew. They're both fans of partying and drinking and having a grand old time, and Jaekwon generally brings out the worst in Minhyuk. Jaekwon is usually responsible for coercing Minhyuk to sneak out of the dorm or away and go have some fun where they invariably get wasted.

THE GROUP :

▷ Catfish | Minhyuk likes messing with her since she has such a strong reaction against men, though he does find it annoying that she doesn't respon to his flirting. No fun. Still she's easy to poke and prod and make fun of.

▷ Swordfish | Minhyuk likes the swordfish. He's a good enough rapper, nowhere near Minhyuk's level of course but enough for him to respect the swordfish a bit, but not enough to not mess around with him and certainly not enough to actually listen to what he has to say. Minhyuk doesn't really listen to either of the leaders, but he's more inclined to listen a little bit to the swordfish, when the swordfish gets really angry. God forbid Minhyuk finds out about the swordfish' crush though, he will be merciless in his teasing.

▷ Blobfish  | Minhyuk likes her well enough, but he sometimes goes too far when it comes to teasing her about her looks and her personality. She honestly makes it too easy. He doesn't flirt with her because he's just really not attracted to her at all, ew.

▷  Pufferfish | Minhyuk honestly just finds him infuriatingly dull. He never responds to Minhyuk's teasing and poking and prodding, and please believe that Minhyuk pokes and prods him a LOT. Still, Minhyuk is stubborn and doesn't learn, and so he happiply continues even if the pufferfish won't give him the reaction Minhyuk wants.

▷  Angelfish | She´s beautiful and Minhyuk is into that. Besides the lionfish, he likes flirting with her the most. He still teases her a bit, but most of the time he´s just throwing cheesy pickup lines and annoying flirtations her way.

▷  Lionfish | The lionfish scares him a little. He made fun of her once and she almost bit his head off, so he takes it a little bit easier with her. Besides, he can have more than enough fun flirting with her. He likes flirting with her because it´s a bit like flirting with danger, and Minhyuk is definitely into that.

▷ Goldfish | The goldfish isn't immune to Minhyuk's clowing either. Minhyuk likes to try and get a reaction out of him, much like the pufferfish, because he's so neutral all the time.
