Minhyuk is great, absolutely fantastic. Or at least that's what Minhyuk thinks of himself. You can rest assured that Shin Minhyuk does not have any insecurity problems, if anything he has over-security problems. Quite frankly the guy is probably in love with himself. He loves talking about himself and he loves people fawning over him. An attention through and through, Minhyuk lives for the fame, the fans, the stage, all of it. The more people praise his name the happier he will be. He knows he's hot, knows he's gorgeous, and is more than willing to body roll on stage to remind everyone of it. background – Growing up Minhyuk had it easy. His family is fairly well off, in the upper middle class, and he had a cushy life before starting his training. He started dancing when he was young because it seemed cool at the time. Jazz dance was always his style of choice, he's been dancing jazz since he was 7 years old, with some contemporary on the side. He loves how smooth and fluid it is, and when he got older he loved how y it could be too. To the dismay of his parents, Minhyuk always knew that things like university and regular jobs weren't for him. He was made for the stage, was everyone else blind that they couldn't see that?
Minhyuk had a bit of a scandalous teenage life. Instead of studying, Minhyuk snuck out of the house a lot to go to clubs with his friends and yes underage drinking. He was also involved in the less savory group of friends in high school, he was kind of a bully honestly. Not so much actively, but he just went along with what his friends were doing. Bully by accomplice, if you will. Then when he was 16 he dropped out of high school to pursue dancing. His parents were livid when they heard. There was already a lot of tension between them due to the whole not studying and being a bit of a delinquent thing, but they absolutely had it when he announced he was dropping out and basically disowned him and kicked him out of the house. Minhyuk didn't mind, he was going to Seoul anyway. Screw sleepu Busan, he wasn't going to find his fame there!
So Minhyuk went to Seoul with the meager money he had and stayed at hostels while he worked 3 menial jobs, and later moved into a dingy tiny apartment shared with 3 other guys while he tried to get a break with dancing. After a year of this Minhyuk managed to get a job as a backup dancer in a freelance crew. Finally he could support himself doing what he loved and kickstart his career in dancing! But unfortunately there was a problem. While Minhyuk was a formidable dancer, he had, and still has, the habit of pulling attention toward him. He's just got so much stage presence that it's really hard for him to blend into the background, which is exactly what backup dancers should be doing. He actually ended up overshadowing the idols sometimes, even if they dressed him in the most boring attire he still popped.
When, after a few months of working as a backup dancer, one of the idols actually filed a complaint, Minhyuk got fired. Fortunately for him there'd been an employee of New World backstage at the time who'd recognized Minhyuk's potential. She invited him for an audition and, freshly fired and have no better prospects, Minhyuk accepted. He audition and got signed as a trainee and 3 years later here he is.

trainee years – 3 years
trainee life – Trainee life was very different to anything else. It was so rigidly structured and really hard work, two things that do not come naturally to Shiin Minhyuk. Indeed he did get into trouble quite a bit for skipping lessons and going out drinking with his dancing buddies, but he also thrived when it came to vocal classes and didn't need much in terms of dancing classes. They found out that Minhyuk has a very nice warm voice naturally. It's not the most powerful or the most well trained in terms of technique, but it's very pleasant to listen to. Minhyuk got along with some of the trainees and not with others. Basically as long as nobody tries to control him and order him around and doesn't get too irritated at, well, his everything, then Minhyuk can get along with them just fine. No deep friendships were formed but Shin Minhyuk has never made a deep friendship with anyone so that was normal. He's still a bit surprised they put him in the group, he knows that he's been a handful and has gotten into a lot of trouble before. He supposes that they find him less trouble than he's worth and he's okay with that.
