the basics.

name » Han Gunbin

nickname(s) »
Gunnie/Gunbinnie - Affectionate nickname as per Korean customs, though Gunbin really hate it when people use it. He much prefers people to just use his full name, is it so hard?

birthplace & birthday » Busan & 01/22/93

hometown » Seoul

ethnicity » Korean

language » Korean: Gunbin has lived in Seoul long enough to lose most of his Busan dialect. He's native.

English: Gunbin only knows enough to stick some English into his raps, he's useless in a conversation. Basic.

face claim » BAP Bang Yong Guk

backup face claim » BTS Rap Monster

appearance » Gunbin isn't very good looking and he knows it. This is not one of the things he minds about himself, he's pretty okay with the fact that he's not a visual and probably won't get mountains of fans because of it. He has a very long and flat face with monolids. At least he's never had any surgery and that's something he can take pride in.

He's fairly tall, standing at 1.80m, and not the most fit. Let's just say that he's not one of the guys lifting up their shirts to flash their abs, he ain't got none. He's always on a diet and really bad at sticking to it, usually just blatantly disregarding it unless the manager watches him like a hawk. Gunbin just doesn't care about his weight and loves food way too much.

style » Gunbin's style is pretty boring honestly, he's not very good at fashion. He usually just wairs whites or blacks or greys and dresses in boring t-shirts or sweaters. He's got his ears pierced and does like wearing earrings or rings, jewelry is the one thing that he does put some care into. Most of the time he just listens to what the stylist tells him and doesn't really care otherwise. He likes his hair long and pushed out of his face and really hates a fringe.

He really doesn't like it when stylists want to experiment on his hair. He's had his face for his entire life, he knows what looks good on him by now. He does, however, like an up style and that's the only time he won't grumble at the stylists when they touch his hair.

" Go away I'm working."

"Eh... ehm... how do you... the weather?"

plotline » The Cold

personality »

loyal (when it is earned), hardworking, independent, caring when earned, responsible, laser focused
slow to trust, sarcastic, stubborn, distant
distant, self centered, bitter, hot headed, physical,  envious, critically socially awkward, insecure

Let's get this out of the way first: Gunbin is not the best person in the world. He's got an impressive list of flaws, flaws that have gotten him into trouble more times than he can count. First of all, Gunbin is distant, he has a lot of trouble opening up to people. This comes from a combination of his naturally social awkwardness and his self centered focus.

Firt of all, Gunbin is social awkward in nature. He's not very good with people, and definitely do not rely on him for any kind of small talk. Gunbin just doesn't know how to keep a conversation going when it's not about any of his immediately interests and then what you're left with is a strained silence or an awkward comment in attempt to keep the conversation going, after which Gunbin will very much wish he could melt into the ground. The guy is quite insecure about his awkwardness and he's really envious of those who possess natural charm to keep a conversation going. He has absolutely none of that.

Then there is his self centered focus. You see, Gunbin has been working on becoming an idol for a very long time, and balancing that along with his underground work as well. He has a goal and you bet he is going to work for that. His own stupidity has already cost him that goal once and he won't let it happen again. So now you've got a guy who is hell bent on becoming successful and achieving his goals, but who fails to notice anything else. He's got a bit of tunnel vision if you will. On the one hand he works incredibly hard and can be relied on to deliver quality stuff, but on the other hand he can seem disinterested in the lives or feelings of his group mates because his thoughts are elsewhere. While the rest of the group is waving at the fans while waiting to be picked up by the manager, Gunbin is thinking about his new mixtape and what he wants to include. While the other members are chatting and getting along and projecting that perfect group image, Gunbin staying to the side awkwardly not really sure how to engage and just slipping into his own thoughts since that's so much easier.

But that's not the only reason why he's got a reputation for being cold and not getting along with the other members, part of it is simply because he's cold and doesn't get along with s. It takes a very long time to pierce through Gunbin's awkwardness and self-involvedness. He doesn't make friends easily, in fact he hardly makes friends at all. He's been at Starship for about 7 years and he's not even all that close with Minsu or the Inspiring. Gunbin tends to live in his own world and not expand his bubble to touch upon that of others, not anymore anyway. He just does his own thing.

What Gunbin consideres his own biggest flaw is his hotheadedness. Gunbin has a temper, and he can't always control himself when it's triggered. He gets angry quickly and his anger burns hot. At first it's just snapping and passive aggressive comments, but if anyone engages him Gunbin is quick to get furious. He's very physical in his anger, both towards people and his surroundings. He'll throw things, slam doors, shove or grab whoever he's arguing with, and if it's at its worse he'd even actually punch something. Gunbin just kind of gets a red haze when he gets really furious and then he'll feel awful about it afterwards.

However, when someone does manage to get through his bubble, Gunbin is a fiercely loyal friend. While he'll never be easy to talk to, when Gunbin cares he cares fiercely. As in would probably punch someone for them cares fiercely. He's the kind of friend who's not outwardly very affectionate, he remains awkward and is never really sure how much affection he should give. Should he hug someone right now? Should he put an arm around them? He usually just ends up putting his hands in his pockets and standing awkwardly to the side. However he'll be very grateful to the friend who instigates affection or skinship with him. He likes affection, he's just never sure how or when to give it, so he appreciates the hell out of it when it's given to him.

Because of this awkwardness and his insecurity and just general uncertainty about how to act around people, Gunbin can be a bit tsundere in his caring ways. He'll cook the members a meal to make up for being an , or for being unapproachable, but instead of apologising or even announcing that he's doing it he'll just go ahead and make it and then just hand them a bowl and walk away. Gunbin does have a sense of humour, and it can come completely out of nowhere. He tends to be sarcastic to a fault, he loves pointing out irony or just making a sarcastic quip. All his humour is basically deadpan, and is mostly just for himself. In fact Gunbin will be surprised if anyone actually laughs at his jokes since he only says them out loud for himself.

trivias »

- Gunbin can often be found by himself in the recording booths working on songs or his own mixtape, especially when the members are getting too much for him.

- He's definitely an introvert and prefers to be alone, but since he's in a big group that's not going to happen at any time. So he's staked out his oen production room and that's his and no one else's and he goes to work on music when things become too much.

- Both wants to and is apprehensive about producing/composings for the group. On the one hand of course he wants to perform his own songs, on the other hand he's only ever written for himself and he's worried about losing control.

- He loves music so much, it's basically his favourite thing in the world. Engage him about music and he can talk for hours. He really respects those who can make their own music and express themselves.

- As awkward as he is talking, he's pretty damn eloquent as a rapper. He is very versatile, able to switch from eloquent and melodic raps to more aggressive smackdowns.

- He hates dissing though and you will never catch him rapping a diss. He will disapprove of those who do diss.

- He's super neat about his personal space and hates clutter. Any space that is Gunbin's is always clean and organised and he hates it when others are sloppy.

- He still struggles with dancing, mostly because he doesn't really care much about it. He has crazy stage presence and will pull all the attention to him while he's rapping, but choreographed dancing just doesn't really interest him.

- He doesn't really want to be an idol to be an idol, he mostly just wants to be an idol because he's been working for that for so long and he feels like it can't be for nothing. After feeling alienated from his family and throwing away his prime, he just has to debut.

- He's an incredible cook. He doesn't cook often, or when he does he tends to only cook for himself, but whatever he makes is bound to be incredibly delicious. As he warms up to the others he'll cook for them more often, and also to apologise when he's done something bad.

- He's also kind of a food snob. He's not a big fan of snacks and doesn't like food that's not freshly cooked. He's the kind of guy who stands in the kitchen for an hour to make the perfect meal and lunch for the next day.

- Gunbin likes drinking, especially soju, and has a pretty high alcohol tolerance. When he gets drink he gets slightly more social but also brutally honest. Proceed with caution.

background » Gunbin was born in Busan and lived there until he was 13. He'd been interested in rap from a young age, mostly thanks to big names such as Honey Family, Leessang, and Yoon Mirae. He started trying to rap himself since he was 11 years old and he's never looked back since. When his family moved to Seoul when he was 13, Gunbin started to get interested in the underground scene there. He first started to go to rap competitions and battles when he was only 13 years old, accompanied by his big brother because he wasn't allowed to go alone then. He started participating when he was 14, and back then he was known as that cute tiny kid who was so very awkward but trying, and he wasn't even all that bad.

Fast forward three years and Gunbin had his roots well spread in the underground scene. He decided to become a trainee because he knew that it would give him a faster route to fame than the underground scene would, this was before SMTM was a thing. So when he was 16 he decided to audition to this new company called Starship since they were holding auditions at the time. He rapped, got accepted, and started training.

Awkward as he was, his training life was mostly spent independently working. He just didn't really have an easy time connecting to anyone, but he was a formidable rapper. He wasn't considered for boyfriend at the time mostly because he didn't the profile. As in, he wasn't beautiful and his style of rapping too aggressive, and his dancing was still pretty damn awful so that was fine, that was fair. Gunbin continued training and his dancing got better, his rapping got better and better. In 2013 Mad Clown joined the company and became somewhat of a mentor to Gunbin and he only got better.

At this point Gunbin was known as one of the best rapping trainees at Starship, along with Jooheon. When plans for No.Mercy were drawn up, everyone just assumed Gunbin would be a part of it. After all it was going to be a hip hop group and he and Jooheon were the best. But then two weeks before the start of filming Gunbin did something really stupid. He got into a fight with one of the other trainees. Hyungwon to be precise. Tension was high just before the program, trainees were trying their hardest to impress the company and Gunbin was one of them. The argument started over something stupid, Gunbin was on edge because there had been so much more human interaction than before and he was working on a song in the dorm. Hyungwon had been really loud and Gunbin had snapped at him, which had escalated into a fight until Gunbin ended up punching Hyungwon.

Gunbin was almost thrown out of the company for that, but due to the fact that he'd been in the company for so long and so much had been invested in him, they decided to keep him on provided he didn't pick any more fights, but his chance to join No.Mercy was gone. After that Gunbin become even more insular and just started to work only on improving and showing the company that he had what it took to be an idol. That he was commited and would work hard. He withdrew even more from anyone else and just worked on learning how to compose and write songs and improving his dancing and rapping.  And now he's finally allowed to debut.

Parents » Han Kwanghyun & Min Dohee : Gunbin's parents have always supported Gunbin's musical endeavors, which he's very grateful for. Unfortunately he'd hardly ever had time to see them while training, being so focused on the training itself, that now he's quite awkward with them. After hardly seeing them for 7 years, talking to them is just not so easy anymore and this is one of his biggest regrets. He really wishes that he was still as close to his parents as he was at 16.

Older Brother » Han Taebin : Taebin is 5 years lder than Gunbin and while they used to fight a lot like typical brothers, Taebin was also Gunbin's biggest fan when he just started out rapping. Like with his parents, Gunbin hasn't seen him in over a year, and hardly talked to him for the 7 years he was training, and he really hates how much they've grown apart. Taebin is currently serving in the army and Gunbin didn't find out until 2 months after Taebin had left, which really hurt him. One of the reasons why Gunbin is so focused on becoming an idol is because he feels like it can't be for nothing.

it's awkard » Monsta X : After Gunbin got into an actual physical fight with Hyungwon, it's been awkward between him and the members of Monsta X. Not only that, but Gunbin especially resents I.M for coming in so late, as a rapper, and getting into the group. He feels like that should have been him. Even after being put on time out for the fight, he was still twice the rapper that I.M was (or so he thinks), and he should have been allowed to join late if they needed a rapper that bad. So Gunbin is resentful to I.M and Hyungwon and Monsta X in general, and in turn they not very keen on him either. Put Gunbin in a room with Monsta X and things are gonna be even more awkward than usual.

mentor » Mad Clown :  Jo Dongrim has been a mentor figure for Gunbin ever since he joined the company and started having a hand in coaching the rappers. Similarly introverted, he's one of the people that Gunbin actually feels understands him and thus  they get along well. Dongrim is harsher on Gunbin than anyone else because he cares about him, and he was incredibly angry and disappointed in him when Gunbin got into the fight. Gunbin honestly just wants to make Dongrim proud.

i'm not saying i hate you but...  » Lee Minsu :  Gunbin and Minsu do not get along. Despite being some of the eldest trainees at the company, along with the Inspired, Gunbin has never really clicked with Minsu. Small things irritate him, such as Minsu's disorganisedness and there's a general sense of envy about how easy it is for Minsu to talk to people. And then there is the fact that they're both hot headed which is never a good combination. When these two get into a fight it's terrifying, and Gunbin knows that Minsu can bring out the worst in him so Gunbin generally just tries to stay away. This won't be as easy now that they're in a group together, and to top that off Minsu is one of the leaders. Gunbin is salty about that since, after all, Gunbin is older. Don't get him wrong he doesn't want to be leader at all, you couldn't pay him enough to be a leader, but he still hates the fact that Minsu, this guy he really doesn't like, is now supposed to order him around? To say that there is tension is an understatement.

scene requests »
- One of them actually getting through to Gunbin.
- Gunbin losing his temper and then in his awkward tsun way making fanastic food for the members to make up for it.
- Slowly warming up to the others, one bit at a time.
- Gunbin getting into a fight with someone should be fun.
