Beauty is everything?

I am watching Korean period dramas right now. Thing that I noticed first was why the hell is their hunger for beauty is so obvious that it is surpassed the point of disgusting. When I watched scarlet moon lover ryeo, I felt pity for the 4th prince. He is not ugly. It was just his face has this scar that was caused by his ing mother. And he was treated unfairly because of his face. The second time that I came across this type of disgusting thinking was when I watch hwang Jin yi. I think every women in then series are beautiful. But they somehow manage to label other women ugly. Even one of the mothers in the series was so disappointed by her daughter appearance. I found it to be disgusting. Is this kind of thinking somehow already engraved in their genes? A friend of mine has a brother who's now studying engineering in south Korea. He used to love kpop really much that somehow he managed to gain scholarship and further his study there. He is considered as some kind of genius because he used to win first place in a competition at his university and he beat all of the other students including the local students. Because of that, they kind of treating him differently (i mean in a good way). But they are looking down and practically ignoring the other non-local students and treating them like they're invisible. There is this girl who came from the same country as my friend's brother who's studying in the same class. She is not that beautiful. One day, the prof asked the class to be divide into four groups. My friend's brother has no problem in his group because he is what they considered as one of the best student. But the girl who was in the other group was left behind and treated like an outcast by the Korean students because of her face. They ignored her opinions blindly. Feeling pity for her, my friend's brother requested to change his group so he could be in the same group as the girl as not to let her being an outcast. He told his sister (my friend) about what happened and my friend told me the story. I was like what the hell? Upon studying in Korea for quite some time, his love for the Country gradually decreasing because he experienced with the locals head on. He said most people there are so full of themselves. Pretty much like what we usually see in drama. They only care about their faces, wealth, and status. If you're a genius or educated, your are considered pretty lucky. If not, then you are just considered as trash. I don't know. Maybe that kind of behaviour only found in the big cities. What's wrong with this world?

Probably that is why now society have pretty high standards for beauty . For me personally I think self confidence is the key that makes a person look handsome / pretty because its something that its in you and you dont really have to force it . Look and appearance is important but maybe not as much as character wise and well being . I think there's so much more that we can cultivate from a person aside from their looks. For example their talent , creativity , and manners. Look is a bonus but that will fade so its only temporary . We humans are much more than just looks. Everyone is born different we should encourage acceptance of diversity in any form and way regardless of anything.
