NCT Dream worries me

Honestly, I like the whole idea of NCT with the multiple units and introducing new members with every unit and all. It's cool. It's unique. It means I don't have to give up my life learning more names and voices, because not all of them will be in the next unit.

But NCT Dream... where to begin.

SM called them the "teenaged boy" unit. These boys are ranged 14 to 17 years old. Thankfully, they aren't a group that we will expect comeback after comeback from without them resting. But there at boys 14 years old in NCT, and probably younger. They can be picked to be in a unit at any point. One of them might become like Mark, who has been in every unit so far. I don't want these boys to be overworked. While I know there are child labor laws and such that prevent them from getting worked too much, I can't help but think of Taemin in the few years after he debuted. Being underage at the time, Taemin still went to school while promoting and such. Classmates of his have written blogs that tell how he was bullied, how girls took his clothes when he went in the gym, things like that. He missed his own high school graduation because of promotions. But Taemin had the other four members who he had spent years with to help him through all of that. NCT Dream is just a rotational unit. All of the members will be going through similar struggles and yes, there are going to be those who are closer than others and all that, but they don't have a chance to form that strong bond that Taemin had with s. Because in NCT Dream, their members are not permanent. And it is extremely hard to form such a close bond with as many people as there are in NCT. I'm not even going to get started on the fact that NCT Dream skipped the Hawaii vacation to work on this debut, because I don't know how to feel about that.

Let's go back to what SM called the boys in this unit. "Teenaged boys." It looks more like SM is trying to make them look as young as absolutely possible. The outfits look more like they are in elementary or early middle school. Their group picture of them all wearing the same outfits is styled as if they are in elementary school. (Side note: I just had to do some digging to find the picture I was thinking of to make sure, and ended up finding the member profiles. There is the one member that is from China and people are speculating his parents are actually North Korean. He is 16/17 people, leave him alone!) While a cute boy group is refreshing in the current days where they are so rare (ASTRO and Seventeen are the only two that come to mind for having cute concepts right now), this is overkill. Granted that these boys are meant to target a younger audience, they will (most likely) be performing on music shows that a lot of older fans watch. And as most music shows are these days, there are members that are not supposed to watch the shows they would be performing on (just something to think about). Older audiences are going to watch these boys. Mirroring them to Taemin once more (because he is the only male idol from the same company that debuted around their age), there will be people ualizing them. It happens to pretty much every idol to a degree; but not only are they all underage, they are made to look even younger. Also on a little side note: most of these boys are in the range that their voices will be changing. Does SM feel that is just another one of their charms?

Ah, I'm getting so worked up over this, so I think I will leave it there. Considering I am in the age range of the boys in this group, I am happily going to support them and wish them luck for all the promotions to come. I simply wish SM picked a better concept that does not make these boys such a target for predators and such.

I have the same sentiments with yours. I can't even begin with this rotational concept tbh. Even before any of these units debuted, I was really hoping SM would debut SMRookies in different but permanent groups & with a better name. Really, SM? NCT? But yeah, we're already here, so /shrugs/

Anyway, I feel you. I'm a bit worried with some people/fans se-xualizing these boys once they debut. Se-xualization itself is a problem. Best of luck to the boys, I guess.
