MBN reporter mocks Girls' Generation's Tiffany on air and refuses to apologize

MBN reporter Kim Myung Joon's on-air remarks mocking Girls' Generation'sTiffany are causing somewhat of an uproar.

On August 17, anchor Kim Myung Joon was reporting on South Korea's loss against Japan in badminton at the '2016 Rio Olympics' when he suddenly concluded,"Congratulations, Tiffany," referring to her recent social media controversy involving a Japanese flag emoticon and the Rising Sun Flag on the National Liberation Day of Korea.

MBN also held a segment regarding Tiffany's social media controversy. Opinions brought up include: Tiffany was born in America so she was unaware, she's lived and promoted in South Korea so she should know by now, SM Entertainment should have considered that idol stars would make such posts on social media following a concert in Japan on August 15, and whether the public expects too much from idol stars.

Though Tiffany has publicly apologized, it seems the reporter doesn't feel a need to make an apology for his unprofessional behavior. An MBN rep stated, "He has no intention to apologize."

Netizens commented, "Kim Myung Joon, you have to write an apology too. Why are you talking so thoughtlessly? What does the South Korea-Japan badminton match have to do with Tiffany," "When did Tiffany ever cheer on Japan more than Korea? I'm guessing MBN's Kim Myung Joon knows," "How can you step on someone like that? Does your fame rise if you do that? An anchor should only report the truth," "You're congratulating Tiffany because Japan won? Has this anchor lost his mind? Also, it's completely ridiculous to report that Tiffany made a post with the Rising Sun Flag on purpose," "I was going to ignore this because channel MBN's views are to the floor, but I can't let an announcer spread lies and slander others on a whim like that. Why did he bring up Tiffany when he reported on the South Korea-Japan badminton match on August 16," and much more.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
