A Word About How To Write Better + 3 Easy Tips On How To Do That!

Woo-sah Woo-sah (Is this how you spell this??? I have no clue...)

Sometimes writing is like scrubbing a cheese-grater against your forehead [or... my forehead]... or more like 'the lack of writing is' (It's brutal and painful.)

I remember reading a book by Natalie Goldberg [She's a writer lady whose stuff I like to read] ...anywho... she put in one of her chapters how important it is to write every day. Me, being who I am, though 'Naw, I write when I feel like it, that's my thing, I do what I want - like Loki >.< OMG '! Well, like Loki, my 'me me me' thoughts backfired on me - keeps backfiring on me, because I keep making the same mistake. I'll be working on a story (or specific chapter) and I'll finish the chapter... then I just quit writing for a day or two.

I tell myself 'It'll be ok. I'll pick it back up when I feel like it. I'll pick it back up when I become inspired.' Well, that time never comes. I lose the track way that I've made. I become worse off than I was before.

It's horrible. Don't do this. Literally!!!! -Do This: Write everyday. Like the saying goes 'You can edit what isn't working, but the words aren't going to write themselves' or in other words - 'If you don't write then you don't make progress' AND you end up like me 'Stressed out, furious, pulling my hair out, growling at my computer' when it's all my fault for doing that thing that I know better about. Taking a break from writing (waiting around for inspiration to just appear).

It's a bad bad idea. Give yourself permission to write crap but WRITE. Make progress and you'll high five yourself later when you have finished chapters sitting before you and packaged for your readers to gobble up with glee. ^^

SO - It's brutal to write without inspiration! Here's a few easy tips to overcome that.

1) Listen to music, pre-make you a playlist just for writing. It could be many playlists depending on your mood. (I recommend wearing headphones while doing this. It enhances the experience and helps you feel like your in a world of your own - and it blocks out any outside distractions.)

2) Watch movies, read books - articles - etc., listen to music that follows the same theme or gives you the same feeling as the scene or emotions your trying to create in your story. It helps put you in the right headspace. (I still recommend doing this with headphones.)

3) Watch something warming (funny, romantic - warm and fuzzy or feel good eliciting) before you start writing. Being in a good mood allows your body to de-stress and being stress free makes your mind open (which means lots of ideas flow freely out of it.) De-stress to awaken Creativity.

Ending Note:  I know what it's like to be stuck when I'd rather be making progress.  It's why I share new ideas, personal tips and tricks, and all other writing advices that I gain with you.  Some may be small but no less effective.  I hope they help you like they help me.

I totally agree. Music, movies and reading books help me to get inspirations- but I tend to write everyday which I feel like a wrong move now after I read this blog. I'll spare at least one day not to write from now on. XD
