Audition in S.Korea?

Yeah, so... Hi?

I never write anything here but, well, I guess I wanted to share my experience and help those who want to do the same crazy thing as me???

As you can see by the title of this blog post, I actually freaking auditioned in South Korea... I'm still in denial...

I auditoned for SM Entertainment during the weekly audition they have each Saturday, which starts at 12. It's good to be there early since a lot of people go to these, but it's okay to come later since it goes on for a few hours (I don't know how many since I came before it began.)

I arrived at SM coex at around 11.30 nervous as hell (but still happily taking pictures of everything kpop-related I could see). Me and my family were pretty confused as to where to go but just, kind of, kept going until we had walked to the other side of the coex (SM coex, not the other coex/department store/thingy) where about 40 girls and boys were nervously standing in 4 lines of 10 with numbers on their chests. I was really too timid to walk up to them so my dad pulled me over to someone who worked there and who handed out the numbers. I got one (nr.39) and had to stand at the back of one of the lines while my family stood a little further away. I didn't really wait for that long, maybe 10 minutes, until the line started moving and the worker instructed us (in Korean... I just kind of followed everyone else) to go inside the coex and then inside an elevator (the few of us who fit inside it). We went up a few floors (I truthfully can't remember how many... I was too nervous...) and then only had to walk a few meters until we were positioned on chairs after the numbers we had on our chests. After filling in an application form (name, age, nationality, height, weight, experience etc.) and handing it in, we waited some more. The application was in both korean and english so don't worry about that... (But bring a pen!)

We then walked up a floor, 30 kids at a time, in 3 lines of 10 by stairs (we were 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60). If you've searched SM coex up before, you might know that they have a floor where you can pretty much be in a kpop mv and get styled and such (not really sure how it works...) and that's where we stopped, standing in 3 lines. We had to wait a while and someone gave instructions but she only spoke in Korean so I'm not sure what she said, but I watched the reaction of the others and used my fantastic korean skills from watching kdramas (lol no) and she seemed to mostly tell us that we couldn't bring in anything (we had to leave our bags on the floor) and that we had to make sure that the number on our chest was visible and that no hair was in the way or anything similar.

Only 1 line at a time went inside a smaller room while the other 20 waited outside. Unfortunetly for my nervous and timid self, I was in the first line.

We walked inside a pretty small room where 4 workers and 10 other auditionees were. 2 of the workers were sitting a little further away, working on something on their laptops (what were they doing inside the audition-room? what???), then 1 was a judge, sitting behind a table and writing down stuff and then the last worker was a camerawoman and she was filming the ones auditioning one by one.

When we walked inside we did not audition right away but had to watch the 10 people before us do their auditions too, which was both good and bad. Good because I could observe how they did, and bad because that meant that the next 10 people were going to watch me too (gulp).

There was no time for introductions. The camerawoman simply pointed her camera at the first person and the judge nodded her head and they began. They wanted us to look into the camera and nothing else.

The ones auditioning for vocal/rap or acting were up first, the judge skipping those who auditioned modelling or dance. Those auditioning vocal (no one that I saw/heard rapped) sang about 30-60 seconds and the ones auditioning for acting said a few lines. If the judge liked what she heard/saw she asked them to do some more. Out of the 19 I saw (10 before me and 9 in my group) only 1 was asked to sing something more (sadly not me T_T).

When all those auditioning for vocal or acting were done, they walked out. The ones auditioning for modelling were up next and hade to strike a few poses and then catwalk a little? Not really sure, since I was paying more attention to calming myself down since my group's auditions were coming up soon. Then they put on two different songs after each other for the dancers to freestyle and improvise to, all of them dancing at the same time.

Then everyone left and it was my group's turn. As we walked to the front of the room (to stand in front of the judge and the camerawoman) the next 10 auditionees walked inside to wait for their turn and watch us...

It went the same as the previous group, except that 1 in my group got to sing a part of a second song. She was a really great singer so I hope she makes it ^^

After I was done (I was the last singer in my group) we walked outside and the dancers and models did their thing (I couldn't watch it since I had already walked out from the room) but I just kind of grabbed my bag and hurried out so I could finally breath again ^^;

I met up with my family and we ate lunch and I kept being sad because I did terrible at the audition (I was too nervous and I had arrived in Korea only the day prior so I wasn't really in my best condition) so as I predicted I didn't get an email but I'm still very glad I did it. It was super scary and nervwrecking but it was a great experience and also something I'm proud of. Not many can say that they auditioned for SM Entertainment in Korea hahaha

Hope this helped you in case you're also auditioning???? I kept searching for audition-stories before I went and at the time I kept wishing I could find more of them (especially newer ones...) so I thought I'd share this.

So... that's it? (awkward)

Bye I guess...
