background – Although her parents were very busy, usually leaving her to take care of her sisters, she had a very stable childhood. When Imani turned 9, her parents made a surprising announcement to move to LA. It wasn't so hard to pack up and move looking back at it, but at that time, it was devistating. Her dad had gotten a special job offer to transfer to LA, leaving everything behind. They packed up and took Imani and her 1 year old sister with. Since her parents worked pretty hard to have a stable career, they had a lot of money to spend on their kids. They spent a lot of that money on things like tennis, swimming, soccer, and dance lessons for their kids. Along with tutoring and of course the materialistic things, such as clothes and electronics.
Imani wasn't the most popular kid in school, in fact she was considered a class clown. She won class clown awards every year in school. Her clowning, though, didn't do her well in academics. She was always lagging behind, so her parents paid even more money for tutoring. Even though she had parents who were determined to have their first daughter become a Valedictorian or straight A student, it never happened. Leaving high school was a struggle for her since she needed more guidance by her parents. She struggled in all of her classes and ended up really stressed out without working with music. Of course, music couldn't stay out of her life for long because she found a group of people who could rap and dance with her on campus. They really though that pre-med wasn't the right track for her and told her to follow her heart.
That's exactly what she did.
She dropped out of college, something that her parents would never want her to do, and followed her dream. Of course, she thought she could do this without her parents noticing, but they did. They got so mad that they refused to let her come back home to live with them. Being banned from her own home, she picked up a job at a grocery store in LA and worked with other up-and-coming rappers on covers. On the way, she met many popular artists that helped her make more and more connections. One of the many connections she made was with Chase Malone. Chase loved her story and her covers on soundcloud. Whenver he'd visit LA, he would go straight to her and hang out. They had so much in common and got along great. When she turned 20, he encouraged her to visit Korea with her. Of course being tight on money, she was very hesitant. Chase offered to pay some of her way and she was on the plane as soon as she knew it.

He toured her around Seoul and she fell in love. A week trip turned into a month trip and by the blink of an eye, she was living in Korea in Chase's apartment. While still being new to the underground rap scene in Korea, she met Hongwu (Reddy). He was immediately charming to the point where she was afraid to trust him. A few months of being friends bloomed into a relationship, and Chase offered Imani to work with him in AOMG. She casually declined and he got pretty aggrivated. He felt like Imani was mooching off of his time and money, so he asked her to move out, but pleaded to remain friends. They are still friends to this day, no bitter feelings.
Imani moved in with Hongwu temportarily and started to search for long-term work. In the meantime, she worked at a cafe across the street from Hongwu's apartment. While all of this was going on, she still had time to upload Soundcloud covers and skype with her sisters. She started finding jobs, with the help of Hongwu, for MV extras. She made a bit of extra money doing those, but it sill wasn't enough. She finally buckled down and worked even harder to get her name out there, Hongwu offered to help her by adding her to Hi-Lite, but she wanted to have a success story with no help.
One day, she got contacted by Divine records by phone. They had heard of her work due to someone giving them an anonymous tip. In reality, Chase sent some of her work to multiple different companies and Divine was the first to call her. Of course, she has no clue to this day that Chase hooked her up to Divine Records.
Getting signed changed lot for her, including moving out of Hongwu's apartment and buying one of her own. It also lead to breaking up with Hongwu for many different reasons, but none were bad enough for her to break their friendship off. They still see eachother as friends.
