Aftermath of the Plagiarism Incident + @Plagiariser, I'm calling you out
So picking up from where we left off in this blog post yesterday...
...Wattpad simply disabled access to the thread and it can pretty much be enabled again any old time, apparently. This is a snippet of the message they sent me in response to my report:
"We received your notice and promptly disabled access to the content. If Wattpad receives a valid counter-notice from this user, the material may be restored to our service unless you notify us in accordance with the DMCA’s requirements that you have sought a court order against the uploader."
And this here is an excerpt from my reply to that:
"Thank you very much for taking prompt action. Since I have not yet received an apology or frankly, any response at all on the issue from this user, I would like to know this - has the user been informed that they have been accused of plagiarism? And are they aware that the content has been made unavailable for reading?
Furthermore, I would like to request a deletion of the story. It was taken from me with neither my permission nor my knowledge - despite my having written a disclaimer and obtaining a 4.0 Creative Commons License for said work - and I believe that it is not enough to disable access to the content. I have also taken screenshots of comments written on the content prior to its removal by individual users who all support my claim that the content is rightfully mine.
I also believe that this user does not understand the severity of their actions and I am prepared to take legal action unless the user issues me a sincere apology and terminates their Wattpad account. I stress the latter as I recognised other plagiarised works in the user's list which were written by various authors I am acquainted with."
So that's that. I sent the plagiariser messages on both AFF and Wattpad and honestly, I really want to wash my hands with this whole affair as soon as possible so with the following words, I shall.
@WishOn_HunHan/befluFFy_DeerWinD, reflect.
I demand a sincere apology.
You do not mess with me or anyone else for the matter. I know for a fact that when you stole my story from me, it was not your first experience with plagiarism. Delete all the stories you plagiarised, learn from this incident, never plagiarise again and be a better person. Plagiarism is no joke - it is a crime and you are a perpetrator. So unless you wish to see me in court, do heed my words. I wish you all the best.
@Everyone else:
On a lighter note, I really want to express my gratitude to every single one of you who have commented on my blog posts and supported me during this time. You all stood up for me and helped me when I couldn't help myself. Truth be told, I am actually going through a rough patch at the moment and this whole issue pushed me over the edge a little but you all helped me get back on my feet. I truly adore, love, respect and care for those of you who are kind to me and I will not forget this. Thank you so much, everyone! ; u ; And if you ever need me for anything, whether it be emotional support or just a casual chat or anything at all, don't hesitate to come at me~ I will always be there for each and every one of you who are there for me ♡
P.S. Please refrain from bashing the plagiariser! I have been as civil as I possibly could in all my correspondence with her and bashing is against the rules here so let's not get ourselves or anyone else in trouble. The reason I revealed her identity is so that she will know just how serious I am and as a warning to other authors to keep this plagiariser far, far away from their stories.
P.S.S. For those of you who are interested, you can protect your works by licensing it~ Click here.
[160530] Update: I don't know how many times I have to answer this but yes, it was absolutely necessary to reveal her username. Despite everything, she is still an active plagiariser and people who have her as a subscriber need to be warned. It's best to prevent plagiarism before it can happen, right? I am doing what I believe is right by doing all of you a favour and that is raising awareness about plagiarsim and protecting you from a plagiariser that I know of. Do not forget that I am a victim here, not the one who broke the law and stole.
