The May 8 episode of SBS's 'Fanstastic Duo' has been receiving heavy backlash from EXO-L for EXO's appearance.

During the special episode featuring EXO, MC Jun Hyun Moo commented, "The competition for this episode was the most fierce. To become a duo with EXO, we have over 4000 applicants, even leading to a server crash."

After viewing numerous clips of the various applicants who sent in their singing clips for EXO, the top 3 contestants appeared in front of the group to compete for the final spot as EXO's duet partners. However, many viewers noted that the 3 contestants deviated from the show's original format; originally, contestants cover songs of the guest artists in the final round to become duet partners with the artists they love.

In this episode, the top 3 contestants covered a variety of covers including "Pick Me",EXID's "Up & Down", MAMAMOO's "You're the Best", and more, but no EXO.

To this, discontent viewers commented, "There are so many EXO songs they could've covered, why did they cover all these other artists", "They promoted EXO's episode, but it was all just bait", "This doesn't go with the original format of the show", "EXO look uncomfortable", and more.

One fan even accused 'Fantastic Duo' of "setting out to use EXO as their viewership rating shuttle", speaking on behalf of many angered EXO-L.
