appearance  there isn't anything particularly remarkable about yeeun's looks. she's of average height and weight, average complexion, and she stopped dying her hair the second year after she graduated high school. she is, however, that friend who seems to be subtly attractive, hiding behind the prettiest girl in the group so that the attention isn't on her. the makeup she wears is minimal, but perfectly put on and never smudged. her hair is either down or in a ponytail, as she isn't really one to experiment with her looks -- she's too busy doing anything else, and it shows.

Elaboration
Yeeun has a habit of finding trouble wherever she goes. the average person, of course, might back away from said trouble, pretend they didn't see it, something along those lines -- but hwang yeeun dives right into trouble head first. there's something so exciting about having her nose in places it doesn't belong, if that place is gossip about someone's boyfriend or government secrets -- doesn't matter. call her a gossip, call her a troublemaker, whatever. she knows something that you don't and she will gladly use it against you for the sake of the greater good, because all the lives in the world matter more than yours.

but, that's the key: yeeun doesn't poke around in order to have an advantage over others outright; she does it in search of life-changing information that could save the world (or, at the very least, someone's dignity) from total destruction by forces that no one knows about -- yet! Yeeun likes to maintain a facade of ignorance through all of this, trying with all her might to keep from letting on that she knows anything she shouldn't. In fact, she would be considered a good liar, if she could ever manage to keep track of said lies and not end up giving it all away because she forgot she was lying about anything at all.

she isn't above playing stupid, of course, and anyone who meets her will, at first, think that she's nothing special. it isn't until she somehow manages to, heaven forbid, stab someone in the back, that she becomes truly scary: all good actresses are scary people, for they're smarter than they appear and keep it hidden until the perfect moment. yeeun never knows when those perfect moments come, or what information should be used, or how she would react in certain situations, but that doesn't bother her. she is never one to plan ahead, as she prefers instead to act on impuse and instinct that comes from her experience and training. she trusts herself above all else, knows her limits and talents, and uses them whenever the need arises.

as someone who is lawfully good, yeeun feels remose on behalf of the innocents that she cannot -- yet -- protect; but, she has difficulty feeling true remose for the relationships she must sacrifice in order to protect those innocents. she sees the world as one big picture in which one life is better to sacrifice for many to live -- even if that one life is someone close to her. she has what she feels is a clear view of the future: able to predict outcomes and see that option a leads to this or option b leads to that, yeeun always chooses what she feels must do the most good, even if that includes martyrdom or sacrifice at her own loss or others'. in short, yeeun is extremely unpredictable: a do-gooder who believes that she can save the world, but fails to compensate for all of the costs. the real question is this: is her future the right one?

background
yeeun, born with the name daisy, is the only daughter of a single mother working as a nurse at a small clinic in san fracisco. her birth father, a college student at the time, left as soon as he found out that his girlfriend was pregnant, and the young nurse was left to raise a baby alone. by yeeun's standards, though, her mother couldn't have been more perfect. she learned quickly that mistakes and imperfection were just roadblocks, not something to feel sorry for yourself over. she learned just as quickly, too, that no matter the bleakness of one's own situation, there will always be someone else who could use help. her childhood wasn't filled with the newest toys, but with imagination: barbie houses made of taped-together boxes and drawn-on furniture, dress up played with mom's work clothes, and fighting stuffed-animal monsters in the park.

so, yeeun was always the kind child in school who lent her crayons or her help to the others, but still somehow managed to foget her coat at the end of the day. in high school, she was convinced by her friends to try out for swim team -- and she did, only to end up being one of the best in their school at diving, and still able to hold her own in the relay. she thrived under the team effort, but also under the pressure, the fear, and the adrenaline of competing -- not to mention standing so far above the water, and flinging herself through the air toward it to make as small a splash as possible. she wasn't necessarily a star, but she was good, and she made every effort to support her team -- so much so that her friends from swim could all be considered lifelong. while she did try her best in school, she found that her heart and motivation was with swim and her friends -- not with her grades.

other than being a talented swimmer, yeeun didn't have much to offer colleges. the amount of money she would have to pay if she applied terrified her -- and she knew that she couldn't burden her mother with such large loans when the family was struggling to make ends meet. she knew that college was much cheaper in her mother's home country of south korea, so she swallowed her emotions in order to scrape together all the money left from her summer work -- at restaurants, camps, cafes, anywhere -- and bought a ticket to korea. but, when she arrived, applying to college didn't seem like it was the right fit for her. for months, she continued working odd jobs around seoul, until she was presented with an opportunity as a bartender at what she was told was a love hotel, run by a middle-aged woman by the name of jeon minhee.

"love hotel" wasn't quite the best word. for a year and a half, yeeun saw girls filtering in and out -- all ages, all body types, and all with the same dazed look in their eyes. clothes a mess, makeup running, scrapes and bruises all over them as they passed through the hotel's bar and into one of the many rooms upstairs. why yeeun turned a blind eye and a deaf ear was beyond her, really no matter how much she needed the money, for she will never forget the broken look in the girls' eyes. and, when one of the girls was never brought back, yeeun watched as minhee argued with the male customer about "destroyed merchandise". the day that she first heard a woman refered to as a product was the last day she worked at minhee's love hotel.

Relationships
{ hwang jiae } is yeeun's mother. they're incredibly close, and yeeun doesn't blame her mother for her difficult upbringing. instead, yeeun believes that she tried her best in poor circumstances, and blames her absent father for creating said circumstances. both yeeun and her mother use each other as support, and treat each other more like adult friends than mother and child.

{ Koo Subin } is one of the prsotitues who worked at the brothel behind the bar where yeeun was a waitress. they met in passing, often, and never exchanged many words, but yeeun feels a very personal connection to the girl who is clearly much younger than her. yeeun has seen her being used, drugged, and beaten -- and her heart breaks every time she thinks of her and the rest of the girls who she did nothing to save.

{ Jeon minhee } is the woman who employed yeeun at the love hotel for a year and a half when she first came to seoul. she is a woman who seeks opportunities to benefit her own situation, and takes in "employees" who need her at the time: young women who have no place else to go, and are too much of a mess to get proper employment or schooling. she prides herself of helping hopeless situations, but yeeun -- and a few others -- have learned that her methods are far from what's right.

misc
{ Daisy Hwang } is her english name, and the name she was born with. she's been using her korean name, yeeun, since she moved to seoul.
{ her father } has always been absent from her life. she knows only his name and the fact that he lived or lives in california, and she doesn't really want to find someone who willingly abandoned her.
{ money } is something that makes her nervous. she hates spending money, hates people spending money on her, and jokingly calls herself a hoarder when it comes to her paychecks. she won't spend money until she absolutely has to, and has found ways to amuse herself for free, thank you.
{ swimming } is something that she still does, often, though she's recently taken up a hobby in sketching with simple pencils on paper. adult coloring books are also her new thing, since she doesn't have to worry about how bad her art skills are.
{ nightmares } are a bit rare for yeeun lately, but they still occur sometimes. the most common of them involve or other forms of ual and physical torture -- half the time she's watching it happen to other girls, half the time it's happening to her. she stills gets anxious going to sleep, for fear these nightmares will return.

interview transcript
Good morning, initiate. Please introduce yourself for our records.
"Good morning." she nods, a faint hint of a smile in her eyes, as she knows that's polite -- just a formality. "My name is Hwang Yeeun. i'm 20 years old and living in seoul."
CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE PROGRAM YOU'RE APPLYING FOR?
She lets out a short laugh, brushing her bangs behind her ear as a more challenging expression comes into her eyes. "You're teaching us how to kill people in secret, right? am i allowed to say that already?" She worries her tongue between her teeth as she nods, shoulders relaxed, looking like she's about to scoff.
i see. now, i'd like to know what convinced you to apply for our program. why would you like to work with incarnate?
"politics is dumb, politicians have no power in their own system, and it's trickling down to the police," she shugs, incredulously shaking her head. "Why else do you think crime's getting worse? i don't want to keep turning on the news to see someone else get or murdered when they could have been protected. and... i'm tired of being powerless. if i can't protect myself, i can't protect anyone else."
what work were you doing before you applied for this program?
"Anything and everything," she sighs, pursing her lips and looking away from the interviewer before going on, looking deeply troubled by the thought. "there wasn't enough money for me to go to college, so i started working with whoever needed the help... it was mostly cafes and restaurants in the states, but since i came here, i started bartending..." she trails off, pausing before her voice gets quieter and more serious. "and there's a bit of a ion business in the background. i know how to rough a guy up for his money, but i can't stand what happened to those girls."
what would you consider to be your greatest strengths and talents?
"I was always good at sports," she snorts, rolling her eyes. "But, you know, those people always end up as gym teachers, always reliving high school over and over again... that's not me. I have a habit of questioning authority. no surprise that I'm here, huh?"
alright, and what are the weaknesses that you hope to improve upon?
she blinks twice before scoffing, giving the interviewer a defiant look. "do you want me to say my habit of questioning authority?" she pauses, making a face at the interviewer, before shaking her head. "No, that's a good thing. I'm keeping that. but i kind of wish i... had direction. and knew how to keep it once i had it. that'd be... ideal."
If you could change the world we live in today by going back in time or traveling anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do?
"I'd make law enforcement less powerless. I don't know how, but..." she trails off, lapsing into a long silence before her eyes flash with a new conviction. "No, that's not it. I'd make politicians less powerless. kids need to be able to pay for college. women need to be able to go out without fearing for their lives. the sick need to be able to pay for their medicine. what kind of backwards system only rewards the people who run it?"
Thank you for your time, initiate. we'll be in touch.
she sighs following her answer to the last question, nodding not long after that breath leaves her lips. she looks up to the interviewer and gives a polite smile. "No, thank you. I hope to hear from you soon."

Ooooh we've got a greater good paragon over here! That would be such a fun thing to play with! Her history working at the 'love motel' is super interesting, exploring things like (forced) ion is so incredibly interesting and honestly I applaud anyone who does it. Aaah I really look forward to where her story goes ;A;
