personality – first of all, misun is very sophisticated. If there was to be a picture with the word sophistication, misun would be the picture. at the first glance, she is a woman of grace and class. growing up in a wealthy, prestigious family definitely had its effects on her, but don't worry, she isn't some snobby brat. she does, however, carry a strong 'can-do-anything' attitude, except with more determination and less arrogance. criticism and hate do not afffect misun; instead of weighing her confidence down, it boosts her to work harder. misun isn't the type of woman to change for anyone, and she's certainly isn't going to change herself just to earn someone else's approval. except when her progress does not meet her expectations, misun becomes short-tempered and frustrated. and even though she has a calm exterior, she is extremely sensitive and stardust members often find her in the bathroom stalls or curled in her bed crying because of her failure to improve.

misun has the gift of capturing the attention of a room without effort. she speaks softly, yet people catch every word she utters and from that she commands respect. with her calming voice, misun can smooth over a tense situation and atmosphere. she is the one who represents the members when they've lost their train of thought and she always protects the group from scandals and things that are not meant to be said. with her way with words, misun is extremely convincing – as much as she hates to admit it, this skill can extend to manipulating and completely lying. she is a rational individual and her head controls her rather than her heart. logic spurs her actions and she is quick to shoot down anything that may seem unrealistic. although misun is very headstrong and independent, she'll want to listen the opinions and suggestions of others before making a final decision. misun is the type of person you can tell your darkest secrets to and she listens without judging; she likes to say she strives to find both sides of the story before delivering her judgement. as an excellent listener, she won't continue pressing you for more details if you cannot go on.

this girl is neither anti-social nor social, though she does prefer having some quiet time to herself. misun is social enough to have several friends, but don't think she'll run around screaming to random people, "hi i'm misun what's your name??" it takes a lot for misun to admit you into her world. she's reserved - which is masked behind her warm smiles and refined aura. once misun finally accepts someone as her friend, nothing changes except for the fact that she will every now and then shyly reach out to hold your hand or put her arms around your waist. but because she devotes loyalty and sincerity to her friends, she expects the same from them. one interesting thing about misun is that she rarely laughs; smiles are frequent from her, both fake and genuine, but to hear misun laugh is a rare moment to witness. she'd matured faster than most kids her age as her family barely looked after her, therefore she hasn't experienced the most joy. since misun was hardly showered with love, she goes out her way to nurture others so they would never experience what she had.

misun has difficulty sharing her feelings, and when asked, she'll reply with a vague answer or with a shrug of her shoulders. she never wants to burden others with her own problems and would prefer to deal it by herself. she tends to bottle up her emotions, and when that bottle cap pops off, all hell breaks loose. when ticked off, it is best advised to leave misun alone, but when she becomes madder, she'll give you the cold shoulder until she receives an apology she believes she deserves. misun rarely apologizes immediately, even if it really is her fault. when she knows she's wrong, it's not uncommon to take days or weeks for her to realize it, and she'll do so with a true, apologetic, smile.

the stage is like a second home to misun. to fans, she's still the regal, sophisticated misun. while she does not carry the fierceness rappers like cl and miryo have, she possesses the charisma, technical aspect, and a great sense of rhythm. she does however, severely lack an audience-friendly aura and tends to sit back and observe during variety shows. because of this, misun struggles to be more active and talkative, as she doesn't want her fans to think badly of her. nam hyeri once said misun shines the best when she's on her own, but the latter dislikes taking the spotlight and would rather share it with her members instead.

background – hwang misun was born on a cold winter's day in december 23rd, 1993, into a high-class family with two older siblings. her father owns a very successful medical company, while her mother is an internationally celebrated and admired fashion designer.  as soon as misun began to walk, her parents began neglecting her and placed her under the care of a nanny, hong haneul. misun grew up to be a pretty but stern faced, soft voiced child whose parents trained her "to be seen and not to be heard." as a young child, misun was often overshadowed by the accomplishments of her older siblings. her siblings were brilliant students in school, and had bright futures. her older brother, jaewhan, was expected to be a doctor, and sister miwon chased after the footsteps of their mother. unlike her siblings, and despite being serious faced, misun was always interested in performing. she frequently participated in her kindergarten school plays and was always prancing around the living room with a plastic microphone in her hands. however, it was not enough to capture her parents' attention, and they immediately started to outline her future themselves. as soon as misun turned ten, her parents put a stop to her performing arts activities and sent her to a fashion designing academy in paris, france, with haneul. now, she was no longer hwang misun, but jaqueline hwang.

the first several months in paris were dark times for misun. she suffered from extreme homesickness, and she grew lonely because of the language barrier and she could not make friends. it was haneul who managed to pull misun together and encouraged the girl to take up dance lessons, an activity misun prferred to sketching dresses and examining different clothing materials. although misun was never the best dancer (she was actually one of the weakest), she expressed passion and love for dance. one vacation back in seoul, misun noticed a huge advertisement promoting a group of five young men with the name of dbsk. after falling in love with several of their songs, she searched trhough more of this 'k-pop.' once misun's parents found out, they ordered her to forget everything about k-pop as they believed it was distracting her from her school work. for the first time, however, misun spoke out against them and declared she wanted to become an idol. before she turned fourteen, misun secretly sent an audition video to sm, and when she was accepted, her parents threatened to abandon her if she refused to follow the path they set for her. although misun was afraid, she left paris to start training at sm and her parents cut off all contact with her.

while misun's visuals and dancing was satisfactory, her vocals were weak. though she had a couple of trainee friends by her side, misun was often bullied by the other trainees because they saw her as a threat, plus her strange accent made her an outcast. even the sm vocal teachers mocked her voice, often picking on her purposely in front of the class. misun slowly lost weight, and training was so extreme to the point where she almost quit. but she wanted to fulfill her dream of becoming an idol and forced herself to continue despite the obstacles. misun sometimes fell sick from the intense training, but it was all worth it. after two years of hard training at sm, sixteen year old misun was chosen for the original line-up of f(x), a new girl group. however, sm decided to replace misun at the last minute with choi jinri, because in their words jinri was "prettier, more talented, more confident, and younger" than misun. this was a major blow to misun's pride, and although she wanted to leave sm entertainment, they convinced her to stay, even offering her training as an actress. because misun had nowhere else to go, she accepted and stayed on, this time as an actress, which improved her self-confidence.

after starring in an ost drama alongside the very same girl who prevented her from joining f(x), misun requested to terminate her contract at sm. this time, the ceo was willing to let her go, as he had been planning to cut her after the drama. he transferred her to amour entertainment, where he had expected her to disappear, since amour entertainment was an unpopular and lower company. at amour, misun found a new passion: rapping, as hyeri encouraged her to be more open minded. the first few classes were shaky and misun struggled to control breathing and fluidity. but thanks to several tongue twisters and following the imitations of other rappers, she gradually began to naturally flow words from the tip of her tongue. and misun had to admit, she was a lot happier at amour than she was at sm.

  the two met on the set of the music video for the japanese version of 'juliette.' when kibum first met misun, he made it a goal to get her out of her reserved shell. kibum is like the adoring big brother misun always dreamed of having. unlike her actual older brother jaehwan, kibum actually makes an effort to include misun into his activities no matter how busy he is. they mostly spend their free time (if they're lucky to even have spare time) shopping or taking their dogs out on a walk. kibum occasionally teases misun and flicks her hair at her face for fun, and when she pretends to get angry he panics and immediately offers to buy her a meal. he always nags at misun to take care of her health, and although it makes her roll her eyes at him, she knows he cares for her deeply. she'll actually only see kibum in person at music shows, so she checks his social media frequently to see how the shinee idol is doing.

  alexander and misun trained together and were always paired in their technique classes, so they've been through a lot together. they get along quite perfectly because well, they're both quiet during variety shows and don't like speaking out. they bond over their broken relationships with their parents and agreed that they're better off without them. plus they're both rappers so there's been numerous rap battles from both sides and playful trash talking, though alex knows better than to challenge misun. he jokes that if they're both not married by the age of 40, they should get together. but he shamelessly ships minsoo and misun together and is always trying to set them up because he claims he only wants the best for them. although he's misun's best friend, alex has been very harsh on his words towards her but that only happens when she has done something he thinks is stupid. misun has cried because of his sharp words before, but she's grown used to it and actually appreciates his brashness because she knows not everyone will sugar coat their words and this helps her build a hard exterior.

  misun holds so much respect for the leader of stardust. after all, min's the one who  holds the group together and offers help when it's needed, and misun just admires min's strong mentality. min even knows how misun likes her vanilla creme frappacinos (no whipped cream) and waters her orchids when she's too busy. the two often go to one another for advice when it comes to rapping, but ocasionally min would let a blunt feedback comment out and it stings misun. however, she knows that min sincerely cares for misun and wants her to improve. there's been times when min has shown signs of jealousy towards misun since the latter is the main rapper. when that happens, min simply ignores misun for a little bit and misun knows that's her cue to give the leader some space. she's very understanding of min and doesn't hold it against her. when nasty comments about min being chinese in a korean girl group spring up, misun gets very protective and fights to defend her leader.

  misun is often known as aeri's mediator. when the latter's temperament isn't good and she lashes out at others, misun is the one who smooths the tension over and calmly speaks to aeri at the side. she also helps aeri adjust to korean customs and watches out for her words in case aeri says something rude unintentionally.  in fact, if aeri lands in hot water for being rude, misun comes to her rescue. because they're always seen hanging out and sitting next to each other on interviews and variety shows, they're shipped in an otp.  they're often addressed as "the rose and the orchid." misun finds it ironic that she is in an otp with aeri, because aeri is known as the sincere rose and misun is allergic to roses. they've even gone through fanfiction websites to see how many fanfictions are written about them. misun goes to aeri for relationship advice since she thinks the visual has more experience in dating, but that isn't helpful so they just scour over magazines.

  miok is quite the opposite of misun - while misun is graceful, miok is clumsy. misun has joked before that if miok falls, she'll be there to catch her or that she can lend miok her grace. they both know what's like to be rejected of a place in an idol group, so they always strive to push their limits and remind each other not to give up. out of all the members of stardust, they're the ones who stay at the practice rooms the latest. misun also loves it when miok asks her to help her with a rapping part, because she sees so much potential in the triple threat and wants to help her get better. sometimes misun gets a little envious of miok because she wishes she could be as extroverted as her, but she reminds herself that it's silly to be jealous over something like that. as both girls love vintage items, they like going to cute thrift and antique stores to admire the items if they have free time.
   
• groupmate : kwon chaewon : 21 : idol in stardust : hardworking, humorous, caring, awkward, blunt, indecisive,  insecure
  misun is fond of the lead dancer, even though there have been many moments when chaewon used her cheesy pick up lines on misun and laughed at her stunned expression. since misun had a stiff childhood, chaewon made it her goal to bring out misun's wild side, like making the main rapper chicken dance just for kicks. however, they have their occasional spat because both have very different romantic beliefs. misun has shot down chaewon's fantasies about love multiple times and even told her "get a grip on reality," which doesn't make chaewon happy. but they eventually come to respect one another's views. misun also hates how chaewon is so critical about herself, because she believes chaewon is very beautiful and doesn't need others to tell her what she should to change about herself because that is ridiculous. she's given the lead dancer multiple pep talks on self esteem too.

  myungsoo was taken under misun's wing from the very moment he entered amour. she'd met him through classes and was charmed by his eloquent and innocent soul. since she's the youngest child in her family, it made her a little excited to watch over this young boy. everyone in amour affectionately calls him misun's "prodigy child" because she was someone who helped him grow in his rapping along with the trainers at amour. she's usually one of the first to hear his music pieces, something she considers a great honor because myungsoo is protective of his works. misun willingly cooks for him if he's practicing late and even plays video games with him if he has no partner (though she's not as willing about that). they also like watching videos of rappers and surprisingly have deep discussions of their technique and styles. she's so attached to the younger that it incites the jealousy of minsoo, who says he's the only soo she needs.

  misun adores the amour rap instructor and even views her at the same level as she does with miryo. lihua was one of the people who recognized misun's potential in rapping and personally saw to it that misun was enrolled in rapping classes. even when misun stumbled in the beginning, lihua was (and still is) patient and repeated lessons with her if needed. however, lihua never babied misun and would simply tell misun to it up rather than comfort her when she was in tears of frustration. this is one of the many reasons why misun respects lihua so much. she often brings lihua up in interviews and mentions her in her dedications. lihua has even brought misun along to the underground rapping scene.

hopes & dreams for stardust – misun had given up a lot to become an idol, so she hopes her hard work and sacrifice will shine through her work with stardust. she'd already been robbed once of the idol life, and she's not going to let that happen again. misun also wants her fellow members to get the recognition they truly deserve. because she's heard of idol groups dismembering, misun secretly hopes that stardust will stay together. although each of them will eventually have their own solo projects, she wishes to continue making music with them till the end. personally, misun wants to improve her performance skills and emerge as a strong female rapper in the k-pop industry, since idol female rappers are ridiculed for not being "true" rappers. she also wants to be recognized as a prominent actress as well and star in dramas.

love history & experiences – misun is the kind of person to go on dates rather than be committed in a relationship (jonghyun was her first serious relationship). as she is rational, she rolls her eyes at the "soulmates" and "love at first sight" belief, since she believes it takes time and effort to know someone before declaring they're the one. that's why princess movies make her scoff at how easy the girl and boy get together. romantic actions however, like getting flowers and opening the door for her, gets her heart fluttering a little because those are seen as proper mannerisms to her. in terms of relationships in the physical stages, misun strongly believes that there is only a certain time to perform acts of intimacy - the farthest she's gone with a guy were kisses on the lips. it takes a while for misun to fully get intimate with people, let alone a guy, so she wants people to respect her personal boundaries (as any person should).

 

she's not one to fall in love first; it is usually the guy. if someone does catch her eye, she plays it cool rather than fangirl over the guy, so she can continue speaking to him on a friendly level and testing the waters to see if she's truly interested in him.

personality – ah, kim jonghyun, the man in shinee known for his powerful vocals and "playboy" image sm entertainment created for him. don't ever call him cute in front of his face because he wants to be seen as manly. but while he exhibits a cocky and arrogant aura, he is very romantic. jonghyun is an extremely social person and loves being around others, so he can share the many things he wants to say. he is a true entertainer because he knows how to make stories exciting and keep people interested. he can even turn his mistakes into jokes and use them to grab the attention. he is an expert at getting himself out of sticky situations, mainly by changing the subject and chatting away until it is forgotten. jonghyun rarely verbally expresses his affection for others and instead displays it through his gestures and actions.

unlike misun, jonghyun easily shows his emotions as he hates to keep it to himself. he is a very opinionative person and does not hestitate to hide his comments and suggestions. jonghyun's honesty leads him to pointing out the mistakes and flaws of others. while he may have good intentions about it (such as using it for laughs or to help the latter improve), his bluntness is often misunderstood and leaves a bad impression to the public. he is very competitive and his fierce competitiveness does get the best of him at times, though he accepts losses gracefully and doesn't flaunt too much about his victories.

jonghyun works hard to achieve his goals, especially if it comes to something he is passionate about. however, he tends to have high expections and when his progress doesn't meet that certain level, he becomes short-tempered and frustrated with himself. while it fuels him to work harder, it prevents him from knowing his own limits and that leads to him overworking his body. he is very confident in his talents, looks, and stage presence, but he also seems to have trouble letting go of things that are beyond his control.

first meeting – jonghyun and misun's story began way back in the summer of 2011, when she appeared as the female cameo for the japanese version of 'juliette.' after the first day of shooting the music video, the shinee boys noticed misun standing off at the sides by herself. ff course, the boys were too chicken to initiate a conversation with misun, so they decided to play rock-paper-scissors to see who would be the first to introduce themselves to her. the person who won the game (much to his unhappiness), was jonghyun. the pair had a very awkward first conversation before the rest of shinee came over. 

 

history – after filming for "juliette" officially ended, misun and jonghyun exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch. although she was a trainee and he an idol at that time, they always managed to meet up to know each other better. two years of friendship passed by, and it grew stronger when Jonghyun was in the 2013 car accident. while shinee was off promoting for "why so serious," misun visited jonghyun daily in the hospital. during that period, jonghyun began to view her in a different light and slowly fell for her. a few weeks after he returned to promotions, jonghyun invited misun out for lunch, where he asked her to be his girlfriend. but since she was still training, they decided to make it a secret.

 

they were honestly a very ideal couple, always seeing one another as equal and holding a high level of respect for each other. jonghyun was just charmed by her elegance and maturity, while misun was drawn to his extroverted personality and admired his strong will to work hard. since their relationship was a secret, many dates were late night take out meals in the car or walking their dogs around the parks in disguises.  there had been speculation over their relationship by the media because they were always photographed together at events, but because jonghyun is always flirtatious, fans brushed it off the idea of him dating misun. if questioned, misun would say that the main vocalist of shinee was a dear friend of her. their relationship went unnoticed by their members till four months into dating (their anniversary was may 23rd), when misun accidentally blurted it out to her group members. he truly brought out the best in misun and was one of the few people who could really get a genuine laugh out of her.

 

but just as jonghyun was about to announce their relationship publicly in the spring of 2015, misun decided to end it in order to focus more on her music career. the members of stardust tried to convince her to change her mind, but misun wanted to put the group as her top priority, not jonghyun. although jonghyun was crushed when misun broke the news to him, he respected her choice and they chose to remain close friends. however, there are some lingering feelings between them, so they distanced themselves.

 

although it has been a year since they broke up, there isn't a day that goes by without misun thinking about jonghyun. as much as misun hates to admit it, she knows she made the wrong decision ending things with jonghyun. she hasn't shared her regrets with the stardust members, since she doesn't like sharing her thoughts, but she has spoken to them and kibum about the possibility of getting back with jonghyun. there are times where misun would stare at her phone debating to call jonghyun and invite him out to talk, but she always backs out with the belief that he does not want her anymore. i broke his heart, kibum, who would want to go back to their ex girlfriend after that? contrary to her belief, jonghyun feels the same as her; he doesn't reach out to her because he's scared of rejection. but he sees her out having fun and feels that it's best to let her go. she's accomplishing so much by herself, i'm glad she's doing well. it's only a matter of time before one of them gives up forever - or one of them steps up and clears things between them. 

interactions –  although they ended amicably, misun still feels awkward if she comes across jonghyun at shows or variety shows. however, she doesn't avoid him, because she knows that's childish. they're both cordial to each other and will ask if the other is doing well. jonghyun still cracks a joke around misun because his smile makes him happy and he pretty much acts like everything is okay because he doesn't want both to be sad. a piece of misun's heart is definitely still with jonghyun and she can't help but feel a flutter whenever she hears jonghyun laugh or sees him performing because dang, that boy is charming when he sings. misun often catches herself staring at him but has to force herself to remember that she was the one who decided to end things.

 

texts are rare, but jonghyun never fails to send a good luck on your performance message. occasionally they'll go out to get a quick bite, and the things they talk about are strictly on their respective groups and maybe their dogs. sometimes one of them slips up and brings up an old couple memory, like that one time jonghyun caught misun staring at a picture of him shirtless and wouldn't stop making fun of her the whole day, and that leads the two sitting quietly. he still remembers her favorite food, flowers, and tsum tsum character, which surprises misun because why should he bother remembering? she's joked around with him that he'll be dating someone else soon, which doesn't exactly make him feel good.

first meeting – they met shortly after minsoo's arrival at amour entertainment. one day, misun was having a particualy hard time nailing down choreography and stormed out of the practice room in tears. minsoo was on his way to the recording studio to practice when he heard sniffles in the hallway nearby. he walked over to investigate and saw misun sitting against the wall, arms wrapped around her knees. misun heard his footsteps and looked up to see minsoo staring at her. before she could say anything, minsoo sighed and sank down next to her. misun asked him to leave her alone, but instead he held out a bag of m&m's since he wasn't quite sure what to do. misun found his presence oddly comforting, so they sat in silence eating m&ms till misun felt better to return practicing.

 

history – after that day, minsoo began appearing more at misun's training classes. she noticed that just like her, he was a little reserved and didn't socialize as much with the trainees. unlike some of the other vocalists, minsoo was humble about his skills and didn't show off, which was perhaps why he caught misun's attention. they first started out as training buddies, each pushing one another to their fullest potential. her role to him eventually morphed into an older sister, always watching out for him and bringing him food at late night practices. the two never really got to know each other on a deeper level, but eventually misun decided to share a bit of her past to minsoo. after all, he'd seen the worst of her during practice. she even admitted she was jealous of him because his family fully supported him. minsoo would soon encourage misun to try reaching out to her family.

 

the first time minsoo felt something towards misun was around october of 2014, when the two were staying up in a studio. just for fun, minsoo tried imitating one of alex's rapping parts and looked quite ridiculous. misun started laughing and minsoo was just shocked because, wow when did hwang misun ever laughed. as he admired this rare moment, he suddenly felt a stir. misun's eyes sparkle when she laughs. he was thinking how misun should laugh more often when he realized that misun was no longer a noona like figure to him. at first, it frightened him quite a bit because he wasn't sure how to deal with the emotions. earlier minsoo had found out about misun and jonghyun through aeri so he definitely knew not to make a move on misun. he was positive that misun was just a fleeting crush so he continued hanging out with her in hopes he would see her as a friend again.

 

then jonghyun and misun ended things. minsoo never saw misun cry about it, but he was sure that she was crushed so he respectfully stayed in the friendship boundary. after all, it would be messed up of him to confess to misun just after she broke off her relationship. besides, she was two years older than him and needed a guy who was more mature than him. minsoo didn't need to make his feelings clear to misun, he was just glad that she considered him an important figure in her life. 

 

since he's very close to aeri and alex, he shares his secret with them and goes to them for advice. the two often try to convince misun to give minsoo a chance, but misun just brushes their comments off because there's still so much she needs to learn about minsoo and there's plenty of room for their relationship to develop. her heart hasn't moved on from jonghyun, so she doesn't want to plunge into a new romantic relationship just to ease the pain. she does, however, find minsoo quite endearing and grows fond of the younger. 

 

she later discovers his crush on her through accidentally stumbling upon a conversation about him between alex and aeri. misun always had sensed that minsoo was interested in judging by his interactions around her and aeri constantly talking about him, so she wasn't surprised. she decides to remain quiet about the discovery rather than confront him about it in case he wanted to keep it a secret. this doesn't change her treatment towards him, but it's safe to say that from that moment her heart made a little more room for him.

interactions – misun brings butterflies - no no, huge luna moths - to minsoo's stomach. he doesn't blush or stammer when she's around, but the usually calm and confident minsoo becomes somewhat clumsy. he stumbles on his feet or bumps into tables the moment misun smiles athim. minsoo can't help but be extremely protective over misun. he glares at strange guys who look at misun, and scowls at whoever dares criticize her. talking badly about misun in front of him would bring out his worst side. minsoo even won't deny his feelings for misun if asked. he likes doing cute little things for her, like buying her vanilla creme frappacinos and braiding her hair. sometimes minsoo brings misun his compositions and lyrics, and although she is no music genius, he listens to her most honest opinions and criticism. 

 

misun thinks of minsoo as her little baby. before shows, she fixes his costume and hair and makes sure his microphone is working before he goes onstage. she likes sending him texts of encouragement and she's especially proud when he accomplishes something. since misun is a touchy-feely person to those she's close to, it's not unusual to see her arm around minsoo's shoulders or her clinging onto his arm. he's the few people she'll tell her deepest fears and insecrurities to, and she knows if it's 4am in the morning, he'll still be down to talk.  

 

minsoo even hooks up misun with free tickets to axis's concerts, where she brings stardust members along to. she tries her best to attend every fan meet of theirs donning a wig and dark sunglasses. when she manages to receive minsoo's signature they pretend that they don't know each other, though minsoo often inserts a comment such as "misun? that's such a pretty name!" or "you look like this really gorgeous girl i know."
