faceclaim: Kwon Yuri

Rapping :: Junyool (Stellar)
Singing/Talking :: Kang Seulgi (Red Velvet)
Dancing :: Kang Seulgi (Red Velvet)
height: 170 cm and she's growing downwards (some call it shrinking but no)
weight: 49 kg
blood type: B -
appearance: At 170 centimeters and with a very loud laugh, Julia isn't easy to miss in a crowd. She's younger than she looks and older than she acts like, and her light brown hair is almost always flying behind her in rapid movement, accompanied by brown eyes are always twinkling with mischief and a trademark smile that puts the sun to shame. Her complexion, despite her having spent many years in the sun, is fair and light, and she is the happy owner of an adorable dimple on her left cheek.
fashion style: Julia likes to think that she doesn't put that much effort into her clothing, even though the opposite is probably more likely to be the case. She likes to dress up and to look good, if not for a special occasion then for herself. She likes clothes in pastel colors and floral patterns, clothes that makes her feel like a fabulously well-dressed princess, but she still owns an abundance of big sweaters and black hoodies that she isn't afraid of using. More often than not, however, you can find her in shorts and her beloved colorful sneakers, wearing a big airy t-shirt or something that can make up for her lack of sweater paws in her daily life.

the reason why the wind shines

personality traits:
positive :: Bright, dedicated, optimistic, level-headed
neutral :: Childlike, protective
negative :: Uncareful, scaredy-cat, passive

personality: At this point in life, Julia is relatively sure she's a 6-year-old caught in a 19-year-old's body. She likes to eat, sleep and fool around, much to the great annoyance of her roommates, and doesn't know really know how to sit still for more than five minutes at a time.

When she was younger, it was quickly noticed by her teachers how she seemingly took on the role of class clown to make others happy. This clown-like mentality has somehow stuck with her for many years now, effectively landing her the spot as her group's own personal ball of sunshine. She doesn't mind all that much - making people smile is something akin to a personal goal, and when the people around her are happy, so is she.

Even though her main goal in life is to live life to its fullest and enjoy every second, her constant wish for action often ends up in some sort of trouble - not because Julia purposedly gets herself into sticky situations, she's just too careless when it comes to boundaries and limitations; in fact, she'll sometimes go as far as to state that she doesn't believe in having any limits, but that's only because she's well on her way to breaking down all of her own. And sometimes, when this devil-may-care character trait comes to life, she has a very hard time putting herself in other people's shoes: The fact that some may disagree with her, or don't wish to follow her, completely tips her out of balance. These episodes usually pass without serious consequences.

Julia loves what she does and does what she loves, firmly believing that striving for greatness can never be a bad thing. She wants to do good and make herself known, but sometimes her dedication kind of takes over and she gets really disappointed in herself when her goals aren't achieved. As much as she wants things to be perfect and people to be happy, she has a bad habit of seeming very passive about regular conversation with others. It isn't because she doesn't like conversing or being with someone, she loves that, but sometimes she finds it just as calming to just sit and listen and let small disagreements and arguments solve themselves without her interjection.

Adding more to the belief of her real age, Julia is the biggest scaredy-cat north of Antarctica. Everything scares her - loud noises, someone coming up to her in high speed, jump scares in movies; if it has even the slightest chance of being moderately scary, Julia fears it. This has elicited quite a few jokes on her behalf through the years, but no amount of joking can ever get her to not be afraid of clowns.

Despite all this, and despite her emotions often getting the best of her, Julia is fairly level-headed when it comes to intern arguments and sticky situations. She's quick to take measure of a situation and to keep her cool when things heat up, but this has more to do with her not wanting to get yelled at than an actual knack for problem solving.

Completely low-practical, Julia cares for and appreciates her friends. She feels incredibly lucky to have then, and when she's not particularly good a showing it to the friends in question, she lets it out by sometimes turning into a mother hen, watching over her chickens. Sometimes it's welcomed, other times it's not, but no matter what she does, it seems that her mother-instincts just start sounding the alarm when someone she knows and cares for is putting themself in potentially harming situations.

All in all, Julia is Julia, complete with really bad relationship advice, great hugs and crazy antics, and she couldn't be more satisfied with the way she has turned out when all comes down to it.

background: Julia was born as the younger twin of a Jamaican taxi driver and a Korean real estate agent in Montego Bay, Saint James in Jamaica in the spring of 1997. The context of her early life happened in a white house with wall-to-wall windows and bare feet, and she honestly can't say she has missed anything when she grew up. Most of her family's income came from her mother's real estate firm, and without knowing the first thing about economy, Julia's family probably belongs in the upper middleclass. Her father usually worked day-shifts on weekdays and night-shifts in the weekends, and when he wasn't driving, he would spend his time with his children, teaching them how to play various instruments. Whether it was as succesful as he hoped is highly debatable, but the end results are that Robert knows how to play the violin and Julia can play the bass and knows a few guitar chords. Instruments wasn't exactly her 'thing' in the same way it was Robert's, however, and so her father, a few days after Julia turned 6, enrolled her in a dancing class hosted by a local fitness trainer. This, as opposed to the bass and the violin, caught Julia's interest, and she continued to attend the class for several years.

Growing up, Julia's best friend was her twin brother, Robert (Seon Hwan). They did everything together, and in their early years, during the times with the awkward bowl cut haircuts, the two of them were often confused for the other, something Julia's mother solved by always making Julia wear dresses. And as much as she liked the pastel colors and the abundance of flowers on her clothes, dresses were unfit for running and playing - and, needless to say, the idea kind of went down the drain after three dresses were seperately spoiled by 'accident'. She attended school with Robert as far as the school system would let her, which was from she was in kindergarten and until she started high school. Here, Julia enrolled at Mount Alvernia High School, an all-girls school, where Robert went to Cornwall College, an all-boys institution. Once at Mount Alvernia, Julia joined the swim-team upon request from her PE-teacher, a team she managed to become co-captain of in the span of a year and half.

While swimming, of course, took up a lot of her time, Julia developed her dancing skills vehemently, entering a few dance competitions all over the Eastern part of Jamaica. She didn't win a single one, but she managed to place second and third (and fifth) in the regional championships from she was 11 until she was 13 years old.

It was mainly because of her dance crew she discovered that she liked to perform. And after some time thinking over her opportunities, she sent in an audition tape to Pledis Entertainment at age 15. She actually managed to forget about it again shortly afterwards, since she didn't think she would pass, but eventually, after a few months, she did.

trainee life: In December 2012, Julia found herself on a plane headed for South Korea, where a trainee contract with Pledis Entertainment was waiting for her. Without paying it much thought, Julia and her parents signed, and she began an intensive training course.

She quickly proved herself as a pretty good dancer, but her singing was average, at best. She received several singing lessons, but still found herself in the bottom ranks of her class, causing her to momentarily lose her spirits. Come December 2013 she was truly afraid Pledis was going to make a hatstall or a background person out of her, and so instead of owning up to the challenge of finding her (half non-existent) talent for singing, she decided to try her luck at another company. She made countless videos of herself dancing and singing, although she wasn't expecting any replies on that account, and went through what she later describes as vocal hell with singing lessons for several hours at a time.

During her time of need at Pledis, she discovered that while she wasn't the best singer, she had a thing for rapping. Something about the fastspoken lyrics and the flowing of the beats amazed her, and her spirits lifted when she started receiving lessons in rap and composition, effectively pushing the singing classes into the back of her mind.

In the meantime, her videos had gotten some response. A rep from another company - SM Entertainment - had seen her, and so Julia found herself seated in the same office where she had signed her trainee contract, only to be presented with another one, that looked suspiciously much like the one she had already signed, but with another logo at the top right corner. She signed it, and effectively terminated her contract with Pledis Entertainment. As of February 3rd 2014, Julia was an SM trainee.

Determined to prove herself better this time around, she spent every waking hour in the practice rooms, where she eventually met Amber. Hearing someone speak English for the first time in a couple of years, Julia immediately felt comfortable around her, finding a mentor-like personality in the older, who seemed genuinely interested in helping her.

the reason why the moon comes around

Amber J. Liu | 24 | Mentor-student turned friends | Open, helpful, wise | Following one of Julia's 'early-to-wake-early-to-train'-sessions, the two stumbled across each other in a practice room, where Amber was rehearsing an English song. Drawn to the unmistakable sound of her mother tongue, Julia struck up polite conversation (as polite as possible, of course, Julia spent at least five minutes just staring at the woman)

Lee Hyerin | 15 | Friendly and civilized, yet awkward | Cheerful, bright, straightforward | Julia first met Hyerin in the girls' bathroom, where a moment of carelessness nearly sent the younger plummeting into the tiled floor. Apologizing, both in English and Korean, the younger started to laugh, insisting that she was fine. As faith would have it, the two of them were scheduled for the same vocal lessons just 20 minutes later, and they decided to just go together

Robert Chung | 19 | Twin brother, older by 3 minutes | Mischievous, protective, intellectual | Julia's other half, her brother from the same mother, who makes it his job to both make Julia's life miserable and to look out for her, even though they're in two different countries. Despite all the smack she usually talks concerning her brother, there's no doubt that Julia loves him to no end

Eric Nam | 27 | Obvious favoritism (favorite oppar) | Caring, witty, sarcastic | As it turned out, knowing Amber also meant knowing half the population of South Korea as well. Julia and Eric met on one of her rare days off, where Amber invited her to tag along to a get-together she hosted for her friends. Immediately falling into the same fold of sarcasm and comments, the two instantly hit it off

Jackson Wang | 21 | Brother from another mother (and father) | Loyal, devoted, silly | The likes of Jackson Wang were pretty hard not to notice - yet again one of Amber's friends, Jackson was loud, a clown and absolutely loving the attention it brought him, and in a way, he reminds Julia of her brother. That's probably the only reason she hasn't hit him yet

the reason i convey my love to you like this

love interest: Hansol Vernon Chwe (Seventeen's hip hop-unit)
personality: Vernon is... Well, Vernon is Vernon. At this point, Julia doesn't really know how to describe him, other than pointing out a few key facts: Considerate. Lively. Funny. Hard working. And probably just as much a child at heart as she is.

Vernon is pretty laidback - it's not something he tries to be, he just comes off that way, and it makes people feel relaxed around him. He's keeping things real, so to speak, because he knows that being an idol is 100% hard work and then another 100% of luck and dedication mixed together in a cocktail, and that isn't something to be achieved in the blink of an eye. Prior to leaving his family and moving into the dorm, he made a promise to his family that he wouldn't let fame change him, and he fully intends to keep that promise.

He has two versions of himself: Working-Vernon and Free-Vernon. Working-Vernon is the silent and focused boy with headphones on and absolutely no contact with the rest of the world, and Free-Vernon is the carefree and in many ways jovial guy who just wants to make being a teenager and being an idol come togther in the easiest way possible.
background/interactions: As much as their schedules would allow it, both before and after Vernon's debut, the two of them rarely stayed away from each other. For the first few months of their very close friendship they were practically joined at the hip, doing everything together - from practising to composing to eating, wherever Julia went, Vernon was sure to follow.

Of course, their time together has always been limited, but when they're free to escape stylists and late practices, they make sure to make the most of their outings, even if only for a few hours. It was during one of these outings that Julia discovered her blossoming feelings for the boy, although opting to keep it to herself to avoid jeopardizing their friendship. She didn't have to think much about it, however, because a well-meaning Seventeen member (she still refuses to tell Vernon who) once told her in confidentiality that Vernon liked her - like, liked her liked her. The confession itself, when it came from Vernon, was awkward in every aspect of the word, but so was her reply, and so she figures that they actually make a pretty okay couple.

But then she terminated her Pledis contract. She felt bad about it, but Vernon proved to be supportive and understanding, even though it meant that they would see each other even less that they already did. From day one of their aspiring romance, Vernon was the one who had the high hopes, and Julia can't help but feel incredibly lucky whenever he underlines the fact that the two of them won't change.

Now with her own group set to debut soon and Seventeen slowly but surely making a name for themselves, Julia tries to make it to as many fanmeets and concerts as she possibly can, showing her support for Vernon and his group every chance she gets.

As of now, they have only been on two dates - because the trip to the noodle stand where the confession took place doesn't count - but still they're content in having each other. Julia respects that Vernon is busy, and she knows he's trying hard to make ends meet when it comes to practicing 18 hours a day and then collapsing the minute he stops, and Vernon knows that Julia's undergoing insane amounts of training now, leading up to her debut as a part of the group.
how they met: Following Julia's acceptance into Pledis Entertainment, it didn't take very long for the two of them to meet, despite him being busy with the preparations and filming of 17 TV. Amidst both their training schedules, Vernon's filming and debut show, the two of them gradually grew closer and closer each time they met.
relationship: Despite being very well aware of their feelings towards one another, and basically everyone around them knowing too, the two of them still aren't 'dating' - they have chosen to not use a label to define them, at least for the time being.
trivia:
  • Vernon never calls Julia Jules - he prefers her real name because it sounds prettier according to him
  • Their official ship name is Verles or Julion. They can't decide
  • They first kissed when Julia tagged along with Vernon, Mingyu and Woozi for late night ice cream
  • Julia has a folder of photos on her phone entirely dedicated to Vernon's selfies (courtesy of Vernon). Without his knowledge, the folder is also full of pictures she has taken when he hasn't been looking
  • For their first anniversary of knowing each other, the two of them bought each other a stuffed charmander plushie
