BACKGROUND. 

Haeli was born in a normal family just three years after her sister. Being a happy child she was, taking care of her was not a troublesome matter. Once she goes to kindergarten, her teacher said that haeli was a very good kid who always put their hands up either to question or to answer. She was outspoken back then.

 

When she was visiting her grandparents in Jeju Island, she had a near death experience where she almost drowned for being too happy and curious while following her grandmother harvesting sea urchin. At that point as well, she was involved in a big fight in her school. She was just standing up for the side that she thought was the right one but it was a big mistake for not knowing or tried to understand how that fight started which consequently, eat herself back. Since then, haeli learned that she has to be prepared all the time for the worst to come. However holding that ideology, haeli became too distant for everyone to befriend with her. Haeli does not participate much in school activities, trying to avoid bad things from happening. This is the time she started to become a loner but when she knew about the cartoon series ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and you could say she became a healthy loner if it’s possible.

 

She go through her days with ease until she come across a band from LA named ‘Hey Violet’, a pop-rock band on the internet. The only band that speaks to her soul with their songs and lyrics unlike Korean musics. She was pretty much bonded with this band but had difficulties concealing them. The last thing she wanted to do was to be labeled as a ‘western-dipped Korean’. At that time as well, a cliché school fight happened again like a déjà vu, learning from her experience, Haeli tried to stay away from it by being all indifferent. Yet instead, she was called coward for not helping her friends out. She was so stressed out but after some time, she finally grasps the fact that life is unfair and that she should do what she want because regardless of how, bad things are still going to happen. Haeli began to unveil her love towards punk rock and was not bothered by other’s opinion. After having her parents’ permissions, Haeli started learning drums at age 14.

 

Haeli appearance now does not really represents her personality.  She may wear dark eyeshadows but she has the heart of a rainbow. When haeli turned 17, she started doing Youtube covers with her 17th birthday present. Her first video of birthday song drum cover got tons of like and had gone viral on the internet 'Asian girl killed it'. Eversince, a spark of hope ignites to be in a band. She started to go for multiple auditions and trains more vigorously until now.

 

   : sleep paralysis     haeli experiences sleep paralysis quite often but it does not affect her health at all but she sure do will not have enough sleep after experiening them. she is that kind of person to be scared and will not sleep after that so it will however, affect her task the next day and will be all sluggish which is not good.

   : allergies     haeli's allergies towards cats' fur is very scary. rashes will come up on her whole arms until she can't even fold them. her arms will be so red, disgusting and irritating. she hates it a lot. she used to love cats but eversince she got the rashes she hates cat and stated that they are the demon's pet.

   : possessive     she is just not possessive over things but she is also possessive over a human being. she would show people that that someone is hers by doing a lot of skinship with them and she will definitely feel insulted if someone calls her bestfriend their bestfriend.

"The badass beauty. Nobody suits the name except her. It’s funny how she shows authority with that small body and cute vocabulary. But, still I ain’t gonna risk my life by teasing her. You may never know how strong those cute legs are. She’s a senior after all, I can’t treat her like she’s my friend. There’s an obvious status gap right there. It makes our relationship painfully awkward and it became worse when she almost broke my arm into two. It all happened when I tapped her shoulders from behind to tell that the PD-nim wants to meet her. Either she was shocked or just simply dislike people tapping her, I will never know but one way or another, I peed myself because it hurts so bad. She’s probably not the person you want to mess with. But she’s not all that bad if you spend a little time with her, she’s laid back. Yeah.”

“PD-nim is like how imagine a PD-nim would be before I auditioned. He’s strict, yeah but if you be nice with him he’ll be nice with you. Probably not as nice as he treats Nakahara (coughveryjealouscough). I’m not particularly close with him, I know where I stand and I can assure you, it’s not anywhere near his shoes. The only time he notices my talent is probably when I make him coffee and I think it taste bizzare-ly good enough that he praised me. Not gonna lie, I was so happy to the point that my band mates suddenly became overly concerned about my well-being.”

EXPERIENCE. 

Haeli is the first person in her family to have an interest in music instruments. It had been hard since both of her parents and her sister are more towards family business and stuff. Haeli started to take drumming class when she was 14 with the support of her parents immediately after learning about ‘Hey Violet’. She was said to be the most hard-working student the teacher ever had. She would usually come to the class early and leave the class late. Probably because Haeli knew that to send her to that drumming class is expensive so the least Haeli could do is to train herself extra and be worth the money her parents had spent. When she was 16, her parents bought the drumming set for her birthday but unfortunately she has to drop the class for not having enough money to pay the fee. She came from a normal-class family afterall. However, never did she stop learning. She would go on the internet and train herself. Her drumsticks are basically her most valuable thing ever that whenever she go out, that thing will always be in her back pocket and she will usually practices with them whenever she has the time. This makes Haeli’s style of drumming is different from others because She creates beats herself that are claimed to be exceptionally unique by her sister and friends. After turning 17, she started making Youtube covers which got tons of views. She would have been famous by now but it is her decision to record her playing without her face on the screen. Just because she wants to be known in the a band.

     Guitar (5 years)     
Haeli sister has been playing guitar for 1 year and a half but stopped because she says that musical instrument is not for her. And so, Haeli started to learn them instead of her. She had connections with the guitar and so she called it ‘crescent rose’. She never go to guitar classes and learned the basic from her sister instead but as the time goes by she often learned them from the internet. She really, really love to play guitar and claims them to be a very unique non-living thing. It is fascinating by just plucking those 6 strings could create songs that would connect people from around the world. Since then, she would use the full advantage of the guitar though she could not create songs but she had spent countless of hours in her room learning of how guitar works, watching Youtube tutorials and just simply playing them. Soon, she has her own style of playing guitar. Her parents finally bought an electric guitar just for her when she was 18. She may not be as good as others since she does not have proper guitar class but she does has her own style of playing them and that is what makes her became extraordinarily extraordinary. The way she holds the guitar is weird, the way she strums it is weird but nobody cares about them if you could produce nice tunes.

haeli has always imagine to have a boyfriend who would think her 'possesive-ness' is cute and has a good sense of humour. someone who is proud to have her as their partner and someone who can put haeli in her place.

 

out of all of the homo sapiens, haeli wants to be friends the most with l/i. however, due to l/i's lack of expressiveness about friendships, along with the way haeli feels distant towards others, this is an uphill battle. both of them admit that they feel the other is their friend, and that they want to be closer, but they haven't been able to reveal it to each other. but once they did, their relationship is stronger than any best friends could ever have. they have a lot of in common and they back up each other all the time. though they are close, fans, bandmates or the staffs never actually thought them as a couple or anything.

at the first glance, everyone would think haeli as arrogant with her head held high well. no, it is just haeli had been in auditions before and she'd learned to always appear as confident as possible. haeli attempts a smile, a painfully awkward smile, "i've always been updated about band auditions" yes, so far so good. "and this happens to be in my instagram timeline and so i camel." haeli look at them only to see the interviewers cringed at her awful pun. take note, haeli. next audition, do not make a pun. "i mean, i came here." she immediately corrected and looked down. perfect! i'll lose the spot.

she also learned that to answer positively is a must. "absolutely." she stopped but when the interviewers looked at her, waiting for more respond, haeli continued "i've always believed destiny." gosh that sounded too cheesy. wrong answer haeli! cover it up!  "well, conflicts will happen, but i doubt it will cause serious damage." yes! nailed it!

"i can't necessarily play with my eyes closed." she paused, she never really trained herself to have a special talent. oh wait she does! "however, if you give two pens right now, i can make beats with anything around me." there's no furniture at all in the room except for chairs, tables and a cute little flower in a vase. yep, she can do it. "you can test me now if you want." the interviewer declined. yes of course! they have other talented-er people to test.

wait what? she has to actually sing? a drummer needs to be able to sing? haeli hesitated before answering. "well, i think my singing is decent. not really my forte but i assure you it could get better with a little practice." that is not entirely wrong, her mother once complimented her singing. it's probably true but mothers could be you know, lying because they love their daughter and so.

questions getting weirder but haeli's loving it. "i always listen to pop-punk and pop-rock" that genre has been her gateaway. "but i listen to disney soundtrack as well. so you could say i listen to anything that sounds good." not going to lie, disney's songs could be pretty good to listen especially tarzan's song. it is really nice.

"to improve and to repay all of my parents' efforts." haeli said it with the most genuine smile over all of this interview. it is true though, she would not be here if her parents were not this supportive. it is her job now to not let their hardworks go wasted.

it took quite some time for haeli to think and answer. "to me, music is a miracle. it affects moods and emotions. it creates atmosphere." haeli tugs the end of her ponytail. "and to have something abstract to be able do so is a miracle." she nods.
