[ school ] sungji never really pay that much attention to school uniform like she doesn't really understand the students trying hard to 'individualize' themselves. sungji wears the uniform like how she should wear. however, there are small part of the students recognise her pair of cat stokings.

 

[ swimming ] sungji does not really have much experience about water and swimming so she doesn't have much of swimming gears. so she had to get help from baek semi and ended up with rather cute swim suits.

☂ this girl is often misleads how other people think about her as to how she expresses her emotions and things she gets interested on. and in both ways, ju sungji could be quite zany. she plays electric guitar, listens to hardcore rock music and she likes wearing black as if she'd be going to funeral every week which lowkey creeps other students out. these kind of things is a bit rare in korean society but you don't judge a book by it's cover. she might be deceptive with her usual tranquil gaze most of the times, she isn't overcritical like how world now had become and that, somehow, let her be in a small group of friends. her optimism is what they admire most about her. they say, sungji is the person to have them stand on their feet and stick to their ground with her wise words. sungji is pretty much the 'unpaid life motivator' in her class. she might not have a lot of life experience but the different ways she tends to see in every situation sometimes likely to widen people's perspective of things.

 

☂ however, that is one thing, she doesn't care much around her surrounding and always far away in her own other dimension. occasionally missing out important events and unaware of sudden changes around her. she is not one of the best observer around. heck, she'd not even notice she stepped on some poop whilst enjoying her ice-cream. sungji usually zone out and daydream which leads her to be less of a talkative person. the small notebook that she always carry around is how she'd get a hold of her daily 'quests'. eventhough sungji tends to save her saliva, once she voices out her opinion, she won't filter what she says and often bluntly offenses one's feeling yet still doesn't realize her wrongdoings. her naivete and lack of empathy often, again, misguided other students to think that she is a rather rude and insensitive. during middle school, she had stopped a huge fight with a piece of her mind and people started to avoid her eversince. nonetheless, she rarely take them to heart because 'you do you and i'll do me'.

 

☂ nonetheless, sungji is super grateful over little things. even when she tends to do everything on her own, she doesn't forget to say thank you as she acknowledges small favors people did for her. being appreciative, sungji never complains about not having what she wants but she'd be thankful of what she still have because she claimed that 'gratitude unlocks the fullness of life'. that's how she still survive diarrhea load of school stresses. she keeps everything into a positive point of view. she find it hard to hate anybody because she is likely to think of them nicely. with this, she is constantly calm in various unstable situations. however, being able to keep control of her emotions, she lacks fear anger. with that, she'd try to find the thrills in trying out new stuff and says that she'd tell her granddaughter the beauty of youth back in doraemon's era. that makes her become the jack of all trades and master of none.

 

☂ all in all, if you visit this particular classroom, it should be just a normal and dull one but you have to look carefully. on the left side of the middle section, you will see a girl looking downwards, hair drooping on the table and covering her face. seeing no feet nor legs touching the ground, she looks like she is levitating over the classroom's dusty floor. on the first glance, people could mistaken her as a ghost but that's just ju sungji meditating on her chair.

☂ although, his attribution is quite adamant, sungji thoroughly idolizes her father ever since she was a toddler. she thinks her father has strived the greatest achievement in his life as a surgeon as she can have anything she wants leave it expensive or rare but only when she stays silent, obey and behave perfectly. everybody knows, her father is particularly emphatic over her. whilst, her mother is a lecturer. they both are quite busy with their own works. saving people's lives and educating other's children. they forgot about their own daughters and that leaves her being alone most of the time. growing up in that situation, she becomes a self-resilient person.

 

☂ she was 15 when her parents were divorced. they seemed to be distancing themselves with each hour they weren't together and their love for each other were fading. they said they were not meant for each other and claimed that a divorce is the only way to solve the problem. sungji lived with her father for only two weeks before sending her to her closest relative, aunt sobak, to take care of her instead because he could not find the time to do so. as long as she can remember, aunt sobak was a very passionate person but at that time, she just lost her beloved son. you could say, her aunt was still having a hard time accepting it.

 

☂ it was then as well, sungji started to experience sleep paralysis and quite often lately. it was one hella scary illusions. so, she started to wander around and spends her time aimlessly loitering every evening to make herself tired because that's the only way she found out to avoid it from happening. it was only a matter of time that she started to be interested in playing guitar. then, she learned to play electric guitar and eventually it becomes her favourite thing to do until late night. either way, it helped her to cease down her sleeping problem.

 

☂ seeming like how she has trouble sleeping, she never does have any problems excelling in her examination. not that she got the trait of being intelligent from her parents, maybe because she used to be raised in a learning surrounding. her mother teaches and her father, well, her father is a surgeon. it is normal to imitate her parents in a sense that it makes sungji like to learn and gather new experiences. that leads sungji to like school, as weird as it sounds, she does. she may not be the smartest kid in class nor the teacher's pet but she never stray too far from being good at math.

 

☂ six months after living with her aunt, an unfortunate event happened. aunt sobak was caught in a car accident. sungji was told that her aunt was drunk while driving so she just assumed that her aunt was still not over the death of her son because she knew her favorite aunt that well that she rarely drink. sungji was supposed to live back with her father but she had a better idea which her father approved quite hesitantly. sungji decided to rent a place near her school to live on her own. they had a deal where her father would pay everything school-related but sungji has to earn money herself for her rent, guitar classes and other necessities. now, sungji works as a cashier in a convenience store for night shift.

 

( trivia ) : 

• sungji experiences sleep paralysis quite a lot that it became normal for her. even so, she still freaks out when it happens which leads sungji to no sleep after it and makes her feel all sluggish. but having sleep paralysis is not all bad, it also helps sungji to tell ghost stories.

• sungji meditates during her free time because she can't sleep or she'll lost track of time, so this is her way of relaxing.

• sungji doesn't like to use technology because she'd rather do it it 'manual' (as in reading books). she owns a phone but mainly for calling or emergencies.

• she has a phobia over dolls ever since she watched that chucky movie. toy story movies are basically a horror movie for sungji (she cried from being too scared and had to sleep with music and the lights on). teddy bears and barbies are just a big no-no. they should not exist. they are evil.

• god bless whoever created pasta. it's her favorite meal of all time. she can eat all types of pastas and has an extreme tendency to create bad puns about pasta.

• she collects nice-looking candles. her room probably looks like an occult room because of the candles but people rarely visits her room so she doesn't really care.

• vulgar words are not really her type but she never seem to show any reactions when others use those words meaning that she does not really care about other people using bad words.

( so how did you end up joining the team? ) : Well, it was a quick selection, i guess? Coach Kang, umm, he called on me and asked if i was in any club. I said no and honestly, I don't know when or how my name's in the list but it's there so I'll just go with the flow, you know. [ She claimed. It was probably the most random moments ever but she liked it. she was just tying her shoes in front of the swimming pool and coach kang just seem to be there. ]

 

( do you think coach kang was insane by forcing people to join if they walked in the door? ) : Eh, who am I to judge. Though, I do think he should be resting now for his age but I wouldn't care for what he's planning right now. [ For all she knows, old people means more life lessons. She wouldn't question them. they might not always be right but they have known more wrongs than her. ]

 

( by the way, do you know how to swim? if so, do you have a style of swimming? ) : i kinda swim? uh, okay i don't. Sorry. But I'm ready to learn. [ she have to admit, swimming was not in one of the list she wants to try. well, she thought she can swim but she totally forgot the fact that swimming is not just flapping around in the water. ]

 

( are any of your friends on the team? ) : i know kihyun. he's in my class. but that's probably it. [ she doesn't know any on the team but sungji thinks they're probably friendly so it's not really that big of a problem to blend in ]

( meeting ) : It all happened a year ago and it was a sport's day. Being a sungji, she is never really a sports person but she never say she hates it. So, each year, she would just be an audience. While waiting for the next sports to begin, she went to find food bcs food is love, food is laifeu. They say the theater club has the best one that year and so she went. The club's theme was... Western? Well, not really. She didn't know and she didn't care. whilst she was choosing her pasta when a person tapped on her shoulder. She turned around and saw a person with a very helpless look on his face and wearing... A diaper? What? She frowned and tilted her head to the side as he pulls an invisible bow and arrow towards her and the person next to her. Then, the diaper man gave her and the guy next to her a brooch with a heart shape on it each. Oh wait. He's the cupid. Sungji felt so stupid, she didn't notice the wings behind the diaper man until he turned around.

 

"That was weird but anyway, I'm Kihyun." said the guy with defined features, offering his hand to shake. With a red cheeks on when she suddenly realized she just got matchmade, she introduced herself with a slight stutter.

 

"Well, I hope you like pasta." Kihyun said. That meal was probably the best she had ever tasted yet.

Well, after each matchmakings, she had no intimate feeling for him yet but she was sure it would be a great deal to be his friend. imagine how interesting her life would be with this fun guy. At first, they'd greet and compliment one other warmly (awkwardly). You can say that when they meet in the hallway, everything is cringy. They try to make a conversation but they'd only overlap their own words and have that silence of awkwardness after it. the aura they give to their surrounding makes other students to shiver.

 

They were both juniors this year and they ended up to be in the same class. Still, awkward as hell especially when they sit at both opposite side of the classroom. Sungji sits at the left side and Kihyun at the other a little more towards the front, so when he wants to talk to his friends, he'd have to turn around and have an eye contact with Sungji. being her socially retarded self, she'd just look away from him painfully slow (honestly because she still want to look at him).

 

at one time, their english language teacher assigned both of them to bring in the (what might have been only three dozens of books) but ended up having to carry three stacks of novel books for other class as well. on the way back, they met coach kang which leads both of them to join the swimming club. well, at first the swimming practice was hard for sungji who rarely do any physical activities. she couldn't really keep up with the floating on the water stuff and almost drowned twice each practice. kihyun, however, is super good with swimming and because he usually seen to practiced alone, sungji went to him. that was how their friendship started.

 

despite sungji being so distant, her relationship with kihyun is rather playful. they actually got along very well when they have a topic on. soon they found out they had a lot of thing in common especially seeking fun in life and so they spent more time together alone than with others when practicing. unknowingly, semi's position as kihyun's bestfriend gradually replaced by sungji.

 

as the day passes, they finally realises that they have something for each other but neither of them confirms it nor they deny the feelings. they never make things between them official and slowly sungji started to show her envious side. although kihyun already told sungji that semi is his bestfriend, sungji still cannot brain over how a girl and a boy could be bestfriends without liking each other. so sungji was suspicious over both of them and started making an attempt to stalk them which she failed miserably leaving semi and kihyun got weirded out of her behaviour.

 

their first kiss was pretty much unexpected. there were no extra-curricular activities that evening and sungji just felt like she should not go home just yet and decided to get some food at the cafeteria. on the way there, she found kihyun was just sitting in the swimming room alone. well, sungji didn't do anything thinking that he was waiting for semi or something but again after a few hours of spoiling herself with food, she still saw kihyun sitting at the same place, alone. she figured something was wrong because fun kihyun never made a gloomy face before. she felt like she was supposed to do it, she walked into the room as if she did not see him at all and started to warming up exaggeratedly. she awkwardly falls onto the ground and groaned in pain, holding her knees.

 

"what are you doing?"

 

"ow! ow! i think i broke my leg!"

 

"you at acting."

 

"well, at least you moved. what's wrong?"

 

and so they talked about things that bothered him. just sitting there, listening to sungji reading inspiring quotes from the internet and cracks bad jokes here and there. he was beat up with all the stresses needing to be in a good college put upon him by his parents. he cannot grasps as to how they still manage to find his mistakes. sungji was angry of course, angry that he finally let his emotions overpower him. she sat straight, holding his shoulder and just shake the hell out of his soul. she told him to man up, fix the problem and stop sulking. she promised to give all of her might to help him. she sits on her knees and they did a pinky promise. sunhji felt like she was supposed to do it and she did it, sungji leans in and gives him a short kiss on his lips. she stands up and ran away, leaving kihyun star-struck in the room.
