if you're expecting yoo bumshik to be like troy bolton a la high school musical (the original, not the sequels— okay nevermind maybe the third one) because he's a handsome basketball player with much potential to be shipped to America and play in their major legaues even though he'd rather stay home, watch anime and maybe casually rap while playing the drums or piano (whatever he isn't horribly bad at, but that's really up to ashton and chanmi to decide), then no. that's not him at all. however, what yoo bumshik happens to be is a basketball player for ryungsan high who does really like anime and is kind of really interested in playing for a rock band created by two of his senior classmates, and would be really up to juggling the two as long as no one makes fun of how bad he is compared to the rest of the members of deulxnet.
in a nut shell (because ain't nobody got time to give you a complete analysis of how sweet this gentle giant is) yoo bumshik, known to most people as yoo or that really tall kid at ryungsan high, is more than his good looks and his affixation to hanging on the basketball hoop. raised to constantly do his best at whatever he sets his mind to— even if it is completing his math homework that is supposed to be due in 2 hours— he's the guy people can't help but not like because he puts so much genuine effort in all the things he says and does. kind of an innocent soul that just wants sunshine and rainbows in the darkest places of adversity, some people think that he's really naive and somewhat foolish in how far and hard he would work to make things right, but he doesn't pay too much mind in what others say; instead he works even harder to prove such people wrong to the point where they're at his mercy in getting the wrong impression on him. always the first to volunteer for the jobs no one wants and the last one to leave the room after making sure everything is up to his standard, he's very reliable in situations when there seems to be no one to fall back upon.
but with the shining knight syndrome that he happens to be under the spell of, comes the fatal flaw no one can deny. because what kind of giant, who is terribly impulsive in doing things and speaking before thinking, isn't 100% graceful? him, of course. whether it'd be his drum sticks flying in the air, aimed to accidentally hit ashton in the back of his head during practice or tripping over a stone while carrying a very expensive speaker and potentially damaging it if it wasn't for his quick (but kind of delayed) reflexes, the members are on high alert when he is around anything dangerous or when he's too stupidly happy to see straight. but it's okay! he swears it doesn't happen too much. as long as you put your trust in him and let him do his thing, he'll make sure everything will work out for everyone involved no matter what it takes to get there.
BACKGROUND
born on an oddly warm and sunny January morning, Mr. and Mrs. Yoo brought home a happy little baby boy to their older son Bumseok, and the family of four was finally complete. life was pretty kind to Bumshik: even though his dad was a stock broker—constantly living in a state of crisis because he didn't want to disappoint his boss nor his family— he made sure Bumshik was happy with anything he needed (he was the one that introduced him to basketball one day, the two mindlessly watching while Mrs. Yoo yelled at them for watching too close to the TV), his mom was constantly around because she was comfortable being a house wife which was great because yay mom but it often annoyed him because his mom would always force him to eat more vegetables than cookies (he would cry whenever he watched Bumseok would get dessert and he would get a glass of milk, as if he needed it to grow any taller at age 6), and his brother didn't necessarily hate him because he was cuter and potentially taller but loved him enough to root for him at every basketball game he had starting from the age of 10 to the present and let him share his bed when bumshik was 13 and still scared of the dark, and he himself lived life in a constant state of being okay at everything he did. he wasn't necessarily the brightest of the bunch but wasn't anywhere close to being dim, he really did enjoy sleeping most of his days and watching tv (specifically classic animes of gundam, dragonball, and one piece nature), and of all the things he was going to be remembered for if he were going to die at any moment in the present time it would have to be for his love of basketball.
we aren't going to beat around the bush and pretend that bumshik wasn't born to be a basketball player no matter what, we aren't going to pretend that his dad didn't accidentally introduced him to the sport because he saw his son's height being oddly taller than his first son and the light in bumshik's face was too precious to deny buying him a brand new ball to casually dribble the next day, we aren't going to pretend that a lot of high school coaches that have encountered the ideal player had tried to recruit him to their teams and promised him all the fame and glory and potential to be big both dometsitcally and internationally when he got old enough to be exposed (granted if he still possessed the great talent at shooting from yards away and still looking good while doing it), and we are most definitely not going to pretend that for the longest time bumshik was 110% sure that his goal in life was to become a professional player, buy a big house big cars and big rings, and live the good life once he retired at the age of 35—40 if he took care of his body well enough. but what we are going to pretend and avoid is the cold harsh truth that yoo bumshik's parents were afraid that the narrow path bumshik was following was too close for comfort and the fact that the boy had no back up plans, no other passions in life, was almost too startling to accept.

somewhere in between bumshik beginning his first year and his older brother heading into his second year at ryungsan had awoken a fear within the yoo parents, in which they could see their eldest being fine withou their help in the future, whereas their baby bumshik only really knew how to do three things: shoot a ball into any basket (grocery, trash, basketball hoop), take out the trash, and cook instant ramyun. after having a discussion with the entire yoo family in determining what the future holds for all of them— bumseok proudly professing his desire to get into yonsei university for engineering, bumshik keeping quiet bc well, how can he compete with that?— the younger yoo child becomes aware that he doesn't have any back up plans in case the hoop dream doesn't work out. for the rest of the year he tries to throw himself into his studies as seriously as he practices his lay ups and three point shots, but he really can't memorize history facts as well as the other students, his writing isn't eloquent nor mind blowing, math has never been kind to him and science is far too vast to explore everything before he finds something he likes. so he goes to plan b of finding out what to do for his future:
insert a montage of bumshik attempting to trying to be like bumseok, following him around the house, observing him doing homework, playing some starcraft, and then discovering bumseok's habit of using his pens like drum sticks and making up beats when he's bored because it was something he picked up after being apart of the school's band and orchestra community all this time.
which then inspires this conversaiton to happen:
"mom can i play the drums" "no" "why not" " bc its a hobby not a job"
"but can i at least try?" "no. focu s on ur studies" "no? fine ill still try then"

+ everyone goes "no really dont play the drums you have basketball and school" and he laughs bc bumseok teaches him anyways and he really does like it and remembers that time his mom put him through piano lessons of hell and is like "wow this music thing is great i think i can d o it."
and then deulxnet comes up, he hears about it, and never really thinks about his future again bc "this rock band life is great" aka he still doesn't really know what he wants to do and is too distracted to care.
RELATIONSHIPS
· YOO BUMSEOK (fc: jeon wonwoo) / older brother of bumshik and 3rd year student at ryungsan high school. he's the more intelligent and musical of the two brothers and is really the one that tells bumshik about deulxnet (the truth at least, because he knows bumshik is naive enough to believe anything anyone says). as he's preparing to leave the nest and aims for the moon in terms of attending yonsei university in the next year, he fears that his little brother— despite being a natural social butterfly and a prominent figure amongst the student body— will have a hard time coping without his presence 24/7. he deeply cares about bumshik despite not looking like it (actually he kind of looks aloof all the time, or at least that's what others believe) and wishes his little brother the best by being the one to push him towards the rock band with hopes of them taking care of him and helping him grow to be a stronger man despite not having the best skills in the group. people wonder why bumseok wasn't the one that went to audition for deulxnet, seeing that he's apart of the school band as a percussionist, but he personally has other things to worry about (hint: he really wants to get into yonsei university) and doesn't really have the time to comit to such a responsibility.
· CHOI WONSHIK (fc: lee minhyuk from monsta x) / best friend of bumshik, 2nd year student at ryungsan high and point guard of the basketball team. as if seperated by birth and united by the bonds of basketball, wonshik is undoubtingly the long lost yoo brother and true soulmate for bumshik, to everyone's misfortune. like bumshik, he's a ray of sunshine, just a tad bit shorter, and a lot more aware of his surroundings (no offense of bumshik or anything, its just the truth). he has been there for bumshik for all of his best and worst moments: from the first time he successfully slam dunked a ball during a school basketball game (in junior high when bumshik was only 180 cm and wonshik had hit his maximum height of 177 cm) to the day when bumshik was caught sneaking in a mini drum set to practice with his and bumseok's help, thus sending the former boy to a week's grounding and seemingly eternal sentence to dish duty until bumshik figured out what he wanted to do in life (that surprisingly wasn't basketball nor music related). when he hears of his best friend wanting to join the rock band of deulxnet he was definitely apprehensive, seeing that yoo's parents didn't want him to pursue such a fleeting hobby on top of having their son already dedicate 75% of his day to playing a sport, but taking one good look in his best friend's eyes and failing to ignore the goofy pout on his face he couldn't help but give him a reassuring pat on his and start thinking of a hundred and one lies to tell to both their coach and the yoo parents every time bumshik needed to go spend his time with deulxnet and not in the library or on the basketball court.
· SONG CHANMI (joyxmint's character) / former cheerleader, acoustic guitar player of deulxnet, 3rd year student at ryungsan, and basically a goddess in bumshik's eye. knowing her since his 1st year on the ryungsan basketball team, watching her do stunts on the cheerleading squad, he's always thought chanmi was one of the prettier, nicer noonas that wore the proud uniform of glitter and pom poms. but he swears it wasn't ever to the point of it being ever close to a crush oh no. never. it's just that rare for someone like him to see someone like her be genuinely nice and not turn around like a harlot three seconds later. but they were never close enough to be considered friends; the closest bumshik could remember was when she offered him some animal crackers before a game and even though he wasn't supposed to eat them, he happily took them anyways. now knowing she has resigned her position on the team in favor of deulxnet, he's kind of looked at her in a new light and appreciation, seeing as she looks and acts 100 times more happier than she was previously. he feels guilty when they do talk, seeing as she has lots of concern for him with the fact that he is juggling basketball and the band; but he reassures her that everything will be alright as long as she believes in him and is okay with him leaning on her shoulder when things gets too tough, since she's been in his potiion once before.
· ASHTON EUN (strife-'s character) / electric guitar player of deulxnet, 3rd year student at ryungsan, and the person bumshik unintentionally annoys the most. obviously when teachers say there's no such thing as a stupid question ashton thinks otherwise. knowing that yoo bumshik has the least experience but most detmination about playing an instrument for deulxnet, the older boy tries to be patient with every question and woe yoo has, but sometimes the most obvious answered questions hit a specific nerve to ashton that makes him think twice about their decision. yoo genuninely does feel bad that he is one of many things that hold back deulxnet's potential for greatness and does his best to shower ashton with much appreciation every time they talk (which is a lot—some what obnoxious— but also very cute in everyone's eyes). but in the times that yoo isn't asking how hard is too hard when hitting the bass drum or is he going too slow for the already slow paced song, yoo is genuniely trying his best not to let go of his drum sticks beccause somehow, someway, they always aim straight at the back of ashton's head no matter what. (everyone's convinced that ashton may have a magnet in that part of his head and the drumsticks are secretly magnetic, hence why they always veer into his direction).
· HENRY J. HARRIS (akkindda's character) / (potential) synthesizer player of deulxnet and 2nd year student at ryungsan high school. okay you see those icons? ignore the fact that the other guys in the icon is actually dk, okay? ok. thats literally that's how henry and bumshik are. while the two are on opposite sides of the spectrum of the school's social ladder, becuase bumshik naturally looks like the kind of person that would easily annoy a quiet and seemingly simple soul like henry, the reality is that bumshik could really care less where he stands on the so called hiearchy whereas henry never even bothered to appear to care in the first place. the two are the personification of chromatic and monochromatic personality that oddly compliment well with one another: where bumshik is foolish and vibrant, the one to talk first and think later, henry is the more subtle and sensible one, where he is often thoughtful enough to listen first before sounding off (in a way that is half surprising yet half expected— you always need to remember to be careful of the smaller ones). bumshik is suprirsed to see henry being so patient with him as he knows he isn't as competitent of a musician as everyone else and it would mess up with henry's perfectionist ways, and also would shamelessly drape his significantly larger frame on the older smaller's one. but the truth is that henry (may or may not) kind of love the youth that radiates off of bumshik as even though the younger has a big personality and title around the school he is still so kind enough to defend those that don't ask to be defended and care for them when everyone is looking. tl;dr: they are groot and rocket. #ultbrotp #bumry

EXPERIENCE
the little drummer boy / strange as it is to think about as it is to say, yoo bumshik actually doesn't have much experience playing the drums. when yoo admits this to the faces of ashton and chanmi he suspects their very much afraid and hesitant to even let the young boy look at the drumset, let alone sit down and play a little tune for even a second. but they let him and— in some odd way that the universe is telling them to pick him— they see that he's actually not that bad. primarily thanks to his older brother being a percussionist at ryungsan already and being the main motivator in teaching him a thing or two about the drums; in total yoo thinks he has almost a year's worth of solid experience, hence why he isn't as bad as he believes he is. though he has more experience with other instruments (ie. the keyboard), he strongly campaigns to be on the drums because the feeling of playing them is far more electrifying and vibrant than other instruments. he isn't great with the technical side of drumming— getting the tempos right while not letting the dynamics of playing the drums get too wild (sometimes he forgets fortissimo does not mean play wildly loud that it drowns everyone else out), but he has the obvious passion and contageous enjoyment that comes with confidently hitting the right drum head in a matter that makes people's bones jump and dance to the beat that he's poudning on his set. given the right time and teaching and much patience and discipline to let him correct his own mistakes, he could possibly be the missing drummer deulxnet needs to get their way to the top or somewhere along the stars at least.
on the roster: mozart, tchailkovsky, and coldplay / it seems like almost every kid growing up in korea had to learn a specific skill while they were between the ages of 6-13; some may take dance lessons, others may go do hapikdo, but for bumshik (and his older brother bumseok) he took piano lessons instead. after learning for 5 years from the age of 9 to 14, and casually playing from ages 15 to the present, it's fair to say he has enough experience to be considered a candiate for the keyboard position. getting as far as being able to play mary had a little lamb in every way possible (including blind folded, back towards the piano, and playing with his feet) but not far enough to play tough classical pieces without the sheet music in front of him, bumshik is a ' mediocre professional ' in the sense that he's pretty good at the instrument as long as you're open to hearing a lot of mistakes along the way. similar to his abilities of the drums, he has a lot of potential to be a great instrumentalist, but it'll take a lot of discipline, patience, and passion to help him get to that point. he really does love playing contemporary pieces and freestyling to modern rock songs, so he would really be a good addition to deulxnet if he were to be on the keyboard.

"Well ever since Chanmi noona quit the cheerleading squad, it was hard not to hear about deulxnet, at least from my side of the lunch table. But through snooping the grapevine that is high school, I kind of got an idea about the band and some strange side story about another band from way back when and was like hmm I should probably check this out."
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT BEING IN A BAND?
"Not really? I mean, Bumseok hyung was always the one listening to rock music, both domestic and international, and I'd always listen too— kind of bopping to the drum solos, kind of pretending to do such solos, kind of not— but I just never really thought I'd have the potential to do anything besides basketball and binge watching multiple seasons of anime."
ARE YOU CLOSE WITH ASHTON OR CHANMI?
"Definitely Chanmi noona than Ashton hyung. She'd be so sweet whenever we would have games away from home, giving me a snack when I really wasn't supposed to be eating and like talking to me like a human being and not some intimidating out of this world giant jock. Sometimes I think I annoy Ashton because I sometimes lose my grip with my drumsticks and he's always in the line of fire..."

"I'll do my best; I always put 200% in what I do because even when I'm not doing well, there's always a guarentee that I'm more than 100% dedicated to what I'm doing."
WHY DO YOU THINK DEULXNET IS HAPPENING?
"Not completely sure of it myself, that was one thing I couldn't get out of the people that were talking about the group in the first place, but I get the feeling it was because Ashton hyung really wanted it to happen? Maybe it's his dream or maybe he was just that bored, but I have some kind of inkling he is the main reason behind deulxnet."
DO YOU THINK DEULXNET WILL MAKE IT BIG?
"There's a lot of doubt and I can see it in both Ashton hyung and Chanmi noona's faces that they're really nervous about something in terms of the group, but someone has to be the optimist in the room, right? I don't think we'll necessarily get big and get a huge break like mainstream rock bands of this generation, but I think we'll get somewhere that'll make us all smile and kind of be really glad we took the risk."
COMMENTS for before i say anything else, i like literally changed my face claim 4 times because the first two times i chose jungkook and jimin (before i really read the cheatsheet and saw they were taken) and then i kept changing between the fifty members of seventeen because i wasn't sure which kind of image and persona i wanted to go with in terms of character. hence, why mingyu's shining face is here today. lol. anyways, i have no idea how i got to the conclusion to make a character somewhat the next korean troy bolton minus the love interest and all the talent, sorta garystu but what can you do?!11? but i did it and i have some regrets. i kinda went over board with the background but then started to not care so if you guys want me to clean it up, i can! i swear i'm running out of ideas but i had fun with this application and i hope you like it! if you don't then that's okay too but haha. good luck with the story guys and thanks for reading!
