NaNoWriMo Planning | When you have a job and/or school to deal with as well

These past couple of weeks, my boss has given me more days off than not, but of course, starting the week that I have to work toward a goal of 50, 000 words of a novel in thirty days, she puts me back on for 30 hour weeks.

I had to do some thinking about how I'm going to go about writing for this month, because, even if I don't follow through 100%, if I at least have some plan, I won't feel like it's hopeless, and I'll get more done in the end.

Basically, six out of the seven days of the week will be spent writing for NaNoWriMo. The seventh day will be spent writing for my current stories on AFF (or a break from writing if I absolutely need it).

For those of you who have school or work, I know it may not be the easiest thing to find time to write. It'll probably be a good idea to think of your hours ahead of time and give yourself goals, as well. For high schoolers (and middle schoolers), for most it's 7-8 hour days, starting it the mid-morning and going until mid-afternoon. I think a realistic goal for that (if you only had school, i.e. no clubs or sports, or other activities) would be to write 2k every school day, and then on days off (the weekends) maybe bump it up to 2.5k or 3k, so 1) it's not a giant leap from writing 2k every day, and 2) you can get slightly ahead, so in the event that you can't meet a goal or miss a day, you won't be behind (or too far, so). The minimum a person needs to write, if they write every single day of NaNoWriMo, is 1,667 words. That's a realistic goal for those in school, in my opinion, and participating in word sprints, wars, and other games can make it more fun and attainable.

For me, this is what I have thought of myself, and knowing how my schedule will most likely work.
On days that I work more the five hours, I'll have a goal of 2k words.
On days that I work 1-5 hours, I'll have a goal of 3k words.
On days off, I'll have a goal of 4-5k.
Like I said, one day will be spent either writing my stories on here or taking a much needed break.

In addition to my own personal goals, my friend and I have become sort of like accountability partners. Everyday we're going to challenge each other to a word count of our choosing. That will be done along with whatever goal we already had (or at least for me it will). So, if it's a day off and I plan on writing 4, 000 and she gives me 147 words, then I'll write 4, 147.

Alrighty, I'll stop with this blog for now. Happy NaNoPrep everyone participating. Here's a link to an AFF community that can offer support as the month approaches. ^~^)/

I work 12-16 hours a day and I was kind of flailing in panic of 'Can I do this?!?' But yes. Yes I can. *determined*
