JYPE Audition 2015 Experience + Compared to SM Audition

Hey! So I totally meant to write this post the evening after the audition, but I got home late after going out to dinner with a friend and I was quite tired. Then I didn't get a chance to write it yesterday because I had to go to work. Now I'm finally able to tell you what it was like!

As you can probably tell, I did end up going to the audition. And it was a good experience. Very different from SM. (If you didn't know, I auditioned for SM earlier this year, in August. Check out those blog posts to read about my experience and tips I learned from there as well.)

First of all, I got to the location a little earlier than I thought I would. Because I had to drive there, I didn't want to be late because traffic/weather/whatever else the world wanted to come up with to make me late. Second, there weren't a lot of people there. The location (which was at a school) is out of the way for a lot of people: not close to transit so auditioners would need to get a ride from their parents/friend, or they would have needed to drive themselves there; where SM held their auditions was very close to transit and was also in Vancouver's Koreatown, if you will. And at the SM auditions, I was about the 400th person to audition at 1:30 pm; for JYP, I was about 100th at 2 pm (LOL...not intentional XD ), and not everyone had shown up by the time I had arrived (they were still calling people's numbers in the 30s and 40s).

I definitely wasn't as nervous this time around, because I had already auditioned elsewhere, even though I was less prepared. Okay, so I went into the school to register, got my audition number, went to the bathroom (because that is something you will assuredly be doing while waiting), and sat around for a bit. I was chatty in the line for the bathroom (there was only one toilet! Really dumb), but otherwise, I didn't take my advice from my previous tips post, which was to talk to the other people auditioning, and I don't really know why I didn't. Maybe it was because I was tired and still not feeling 100% myself, but I kind of regret not striking conversations with people. Especially with a couple of super tall guys, who looked like they were going to audition for the modeling category. I mean DAYUM, they were good looking. And they had apparently been there since morning, so I assumed that the models/actors waited until the very end of the day to audition, which for them...But anyway ;)

The wait time between my arrival and singing was very short, about 45 minutes. For SM, I think I waited about 2 hours. The time went by really quickly at SM though: the atmosphere was more vibrant and there were a lot more people to talk to since the staff kind of forced everyone to sit right beside everyone else.

It was hard to hear the ladies who were calling out audition numbers though. If I mentioned this in the SM blog posts I don't remember, but they played MVs of JYP artists in the waiting room, and the music was quite loud, and the staff didn't turn the volume down when they announced who was up next. So, I don't know how it is with other places for JYP auditions but *TIP* pay super close attention to the numbers called. They didn't call the numbers out in order, but they did call them out chronologically (ie. 34, 35, 44, 58, 60), so you need to listen.

Once my number was called though, it went by pretty quickly. They called 10 numbers at a time, and groups of 5 went into the judge's room (aka the school's gym). In my group of 5, there were 3 dancers and 2 singers (including myself). There was a bunch of green tape on the floor of the gym: two horizontal lines and one "T". Dancers stood at the T and started dancing in between the lines; singers stood behind the line closest to the wall. I thought the dancers did very well: the first did a lot of hip swaying and booty poppin'; the second's CD didn't work, but after getting phone, she did a salsa type routine; and the third made a mistake 5 seconds in so she restarted, but still did well in my opinion. I was the second of two singers to sing, so the first ended up singing while the second dancer exited the room to get her phone. I don't remember what song she sang, but she started strong...and kind of faltered near the end.
I sang the first verse and chorus of Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding. I know, I know, it's from the soundtrack of 50 Shades of Grey, but whatever, it's a good song...Unfortunately. I do like Ellie Goulding though. But I'm a part of that mainstream scene, and not one of those hipster Ellie Goulding fans that like her stuff before she got famous...Teehee ^^ I did okay, I think. I got cut off at the end of the chorus though, since the judges didn't know the song, the pause between "touch me like you do" and "what are you waiting for" registers like it's done, but whatever. I think I still did well.

Obviously I don't think I'll get contacted from JYP to tell me I got accepted into their trainee program. I'm pretty sure I was the oldest person there at the audition, and agencies typically choose younger people to train with them. Like I said, it was a good experience. Now, I might just have to find auditions for places other than Korean entertainment companies to try out for, and who knows, maybe I'll be famous that way ;)

Thanks for reading! If you have any other questions/comments, let me know! <3

Oh so you did ended up going~
Even if JYP doesn't contact you, the most important thing was that you believed you did a good job so that's a plus ;D Anyways, if you're planning to audition to another entertainment, I'm here rooting for you^^
Hahaha, I ended up laughing when you were talking about the tall guys. Mannnn, shame you didnt even get to have one convo with them XPPP

sorry for barging in-
but i was wondering if the auditionees for dance brought a cd themselves?
so the song isn't provided by jyp ent right?
as for the dance audition in sm ent, the song is purely from sm ent?
